"Who's the monster?"

Having just finished Monster, I feel like a tsunami of emotions has washed through me. Some were easier to face and process than others.

The film is an enactment of the Rashomon effect, a series of the same events told from primarily three different viewpoints. Despite the genre and tag for this film being thriller and psychological thriller, that was not my experience. More like social commentary with high stakes. Several things happened that concerned two boys, Minato and Yori, and their teacher, Mr. Hori. When Saori, Minato’s mother, believes Mr. Hori and possibly others have bullied her son, she goes to the school in a take no prisoner’s mode. The teachers (all male) and the principal (female) placate her with insincere apologies, writing her off as a neurotic single mother. Refusing to back down, she is relentless in her pursuit of justice for her child. But all may not be as it seems…

It truly is best to go into this film with no preconceived notions or knowledge. I found the first 2/3’s of the film shown through the adults’ eyes rather bland on occasion. Adults thinking they had all the answers jumped to conclusions, failed to properly communicate, and set rigid societal and familial boundaries. Single mothers were vilified and treated with condescending attitudes. The school faculty and administration cared only about protecting themselves and the school. And for one little boy who was viciously abused by his alcoholic father, the school, the law, and society in general offered zero protection. The school, with all of its "caring" teachers just presented another venue to cause the innocent pain.

Repeatedly through the film, questions were asked. “What is normal?” “What is a monster?” “What does it mean to be a man?” For me, with bullying being so pervasive, why did the teachers leave little monsters alone to terrorize the weak? This film will break your heart and make you angry. Above all, children need protection and acceptance at home, in school, and in society. And in their own home they need love and affection as well. How I wanted to hug these little boys and tell them that they were perfect the way they were. Too often it’s the people advocating a “normal” life who are the monsters inflicting the most fear and harm. An easy recommendation, but not an easy watch.

A deeper series that offers richness and love

If you are looking for "Only Friends" or some sexually charged series, this probably isn't for you. But if you like animals, love the acting skills of the cast, and what they can bring to any script, then this is for you. The RomCom/Supernatural/drama trope is for me. More than that, I think that if I had a young child who was getting ready to come out or was in the contemplation stage, this series would champion the "love is love" message, and it would hit home. I would let my young teen watch this and understand that the choice of who to love is fine with me.

There was parent-child conflict, sibling conflicts, and, quite frankly, real-life situations (minus the talking cats) that can happen in our own lives. I definitely identified with the mother as a mom with a son, so I cried during so many different scenes. The emotions are what you would expect from the main leads; they are amazing actors. With more dialogue and less action in this series, the actors had to carry the scenes. Dialogue, gestures, gazes, blocking, the cat cafe setting, and the beauty of Thailand were also evident. I loved the underlying messages of spirituality and passing down culture and food in our families, which really resonated with me. It's a quick, cute, and meaningful series to watch with the whole family, really.

A decent watch

The shadow detective is a good watch. There may be few boring scenes, plots without logic, flaws in the stroy, but it still manages to keep you watching till the end.
There are individual cases solved by the police department and intelligence department as well as a main case which is linked to the female lead past as well as the missing sister of male lead.
Wang Xingyue as usual, was very good in his role. He as Guan Cen, is definitely one of the main plus points of this drama.
All the other actors were good too in their acting.
The screenplay and pacing were good, neither fast nor slow.
The antagonist was quite scary and his acting deserves an applause👏
For me, the female lead's character was a bit let down, otherwise everything else is good.
A one time watch drama for me.

Cool

The moral of the story is ... If you can turn back time... Hye Seong just did that set right an undesirable mistake. Time traveled to repair the harm that was coming for his loving partner WooJin. Can't believe this short BL depicted the humane sides of two people in loving dedicated to WooJin well being. It's not just about sexual feelings, it's a BL of substance, that the first in any KD or BL. If a person is looking for freaky sex storylines, this is not for you.

Nah

For me, the main issue is the tone and pacing. Duang With U leans really heavily into soft, slow-burn interactions, which can feel kind of dragged out if you’re used to more intense or dramatic BLs. The chemistry is there, but it’s subtle—almost too subtle—so it doesn’t hit as strongly emotionally compared to shows with more obvious tension or stakes.

Another thing is the storyline. It’s pretty light and slice-of-life, which isn’t bad, but it can feel like not much is actually happening. If you like plots with conflict, twists, or possessive/obsessive dynamics (like the kind you’ve liked before), this one might feel kind of flat or low-energy.

“One Alert, A Thousand Emotions — Enter If You Dare. ?✨?

Alert Love isn’t simply a series — it’s a quiet heartbeat disguised as a story, a soft wind that brushes against memories you didn’t know were still alive. It speaks in the language of glances, in the tremble of unspoken words, in actions carried out in silence… the kind that only the heart notices.

I pressed play because I knew James and Kad — but I stayed because the story held my soul with a tenderness I wasn’t expecting. From the sweetness promised by the title, I imagined a light, airy tale. Instead, I was carried through shadows and softness: I began with sadness, felt anger burn through me, and somehow bloomed into a smile shaped by healing.

In so few episodes, they managed to reveal the two faces of love — the gentle one and the one that leaves bruises. Friendship, betrayal, longing, the fear of being misunderstood, the courage to confront the truth, the painful beauty of self-realisation… each theme was handled with a delicacy that felt almost sacred.

James shone with a vulnerability so honest it didn’t feel like acting — it felt like witnessing someone breathe. Kad followed him with equal truth. Even the OST felt like a hand guiding your emotions, placing them exactly where they needed to be.

And TheFah… ah, my comfort sanctuary. Two hearts so soft and warm they felt like a cup of tea on a sad day. They made me smile without asking for anything in return.

I may not agree with every choice made at the beginning — but life isn’t neat, nor perfect. Sometimes love stumbles before it learns to stand. And that is what gave this story its realism, its warmth, its bruised beauty.

Alert Love is more than a narrative.
It is a refuge, a reminder, a mirror.
A whispered warning.
A gentle awakening.
A true love alert for all of us. 💗✨

Depth and heart

This show blew me away. I really liked the plot, the characters, the acting. I'm glad to be able to see these two actors together again as their chemistry is really good and natural. The show would've benefitted from a longer runtime as it felt a bit rushed and the ending a bit anticlimactic. The time travel plot was interesting but not explored enough. Still I had an amazing time and totally recommend this show!!

Ehhh

Countdown to Yes ended up being far more tedious than I expected, and that’s coming from someone who genuinely loves friends-to-lovers stories, especially when it's built on quiet yearning and feelings left unsaid. Instead though, we get Minato chasing an unnecessarily difficult Wataru for eleven episodes, only for the inevitable to happen anyway.

Let's Dive In.

What I assumed what was suppose to be 11 episode of best friends realizing their feelings for one another became 11 episodes of futile angst for the sake of filling an 11 episode timeslot. Ironically, episode 11 shows what the series could have been if the writers had leaned into that direction from the start. Even the end message of "Oh, I, Minato, have been counting down the days till Wataru tells me yes." is arbitrary as hell considering they've already lived together. They also only bring up this countdown in the very last episode, when it would've been nice for the build-up mentality of the countdown throughout the entire series.

Minato starts off endearing, if a bit overly stoic, but still refreshingly honest about how he feels. As the series goes on, though, my enjoyment of Kaname’s performance starts to dip. and I wondered if he was told to crack a smile like he was being held at gunpoint. The romance itself lands in the middle for me. I don’t dislike it, and they do deliver a surprisingly lovely kiss at the end, but their chemistry never feels particularly strong. Still, Kaname is tall and hot, and I am pretty shallow to a superb height difference.

Ratings:

Story: 7/10 - Ehh. Works for a while, then it feels draggy.

Acting: 7.5/10 - Pretty weak, but not terrible.

Music: 6/10 - Wasn't distracting.

Recommendation Value: 5/10 - Ehhhhhh. The leads are handsome, but there's only so much a face can do.

The ending just didn't hit

I started this series because:
1. I loveeeee vampire stories
2. I needed to see jossgawin

I've been a very big fan of vampire stories for YEARS. I started this bl with a lot of hope. It started off quite well. I loved it till ep 10.

After ep 10, it just started getting traumatizing. Don't get me wrong. I LOVED THE SWITCH UP IN THE CHARACTERS (even tho it was kinda obvious). But when mark and tong started acting sooooo stupid, i started feeling done w the series. TONG JUST HANDED HIMSELF INTO THARA'S HANDS??? AFTER ALL MARK DID?!!

It just started pissing me off then. I was literally cursing at the screen cuz they were acting so stupid😭.

Then ep 12 came. AND TONG DIED?! IN MARK'S HANDS??! Honestly speaking, i love me a sad ending. Especially that "i do" scene broke me. I had to just pause and i just broke down for like atleast 15 min before playing it again. I would've given the story a higher rating if they ended it sad. BUT NO. AFTER LITERALLY CRYING MY EYES OUT, GIVING ME TRAUMA, AND BREAKING MY HEART. THEY JUST PROCEEDED TO TRY AND PRESS BACKSPACE??!!

That ending just didn't sit right with me. Like after going thru so much, they just pretend it never happened. If this ending happened under different cicumstances, i would've LOVED it. But after him literally having to give up his life, it just didn't feel right.

I THINK I WOULD'VE JUST LIKED IT MORE IF THEY ENDED IT SAD. LIKE ALL MY EMOTIONS WOULDN'T FEEL WORTHLESS.

Except the ending tho, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERYTHING. ESPECIALLY THE MUSIC. IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO KEEP ME INTERESTED BUT I REALLY WOULDN'T RECOMMOND THIS TO ANYONE.

Is family more important than anything ?

I put this title because I sensed while watching this drama that the writer wanted to try, try is the best word for this, to tell us to forgive our parents whatever they do, for that they put 3 differents family drama focusing on one particularly.

The most important one : Qiao Qingyu and her awful family. All of her family members are awful. From her grand-father to her little brother. I personally hated, HATED, her mom. And listen carefully to me, no... read me carefully, it's not based on the famous thought that "mom should love her kids so if there are some conflicts she's at fault", no no no nothing like that. I hated her because she knew from the beginning that her in-laws were crazy, she understood how much of a coward her husband was when they took her daughter and he said nothing but she stayed. She stayed and added kids until she had a boy to satisty her monstruous in-laws, but when the story begins she's making the whole story about her, her feelings, and what she can bare for that moment : nothing. She's an awful mom, i don't even have an atom of empathy for her, i really hated all her shmilbliks about how her daughters were wronging her or whatever. I'm most probably too harsh but all the scenes when she's on the rooftop looking down at the street i was hoping she jumps so we could be relieved from her presence. The moment my hate for her went through the roof was when she offered money to the guy responsible for her daughter's misery, i was appalled. If you read this after watching it you'll think i'm wrongly directing my anger on her instead of directing it on the dad or his family, but i have to tell you you can't and don't have to engage with crazy people, but if you choose to and let them walk all over you and let them bully someone you care for because of you, you are to blame. We can't change crazy people but we can distance ourselves from them. The mom should've divorced a while ago and took her daughter back but she chose not to for what ? Nothing but tragedy. The scene when the little bro blamed his sister for their parents possible divorce is when i decided that poor Qingyu had no one on her side except her friends Ming Sheng and Mumu. I'm letting all out i hope it's readable at least, but i had to say that the mom is more certainly a victim of a system she put herself in but she's the bully of her daughters, so i can't empathise with her, she deserve every bit of guilt she's feeling. I'm just sad they didn't divorce finally because why have enemies when you have this husband.

The second one : Ming Sheng and his full misunderstanding family. I have to admit i skipped most of his scenes with his mom, but this family was the only one which was redeemable. He hated his dad all his life thinking he was the cause of his mom's departure so we watch him navigate through his feelings of care for his dad while hating him, because his dad never wanted to explain the situation to him, until his mom (who abandoned him) told him what really happened. It's the only acceptable family, both parents love Sheng and it shows.

The last one : Mumu and her Stockholm addicted family. Her alcoholic dad hits her and her mom everynight, but one day it's gone too far and Mumu is sent to hospital and miraculously her dad decided to stop drinking. However, to our shock --', he's diagnosed with last stage of liver cancer. he apologised and Mumu decides that enough for her to forgive him and try to pay for a surgery.

My take on these pov and the ending of all family dramas is the writer wanted so bad to pass a message of "whatever your parents did you have to forgive them and between family members too" we see it between Qingyu and her parents, her dad ans his parents, Ming Sheng and his dad and Mumu and her dad. However the only understandable one is Ming Sheng and his dad cuz his dad never did anything bad to him. You don't know how much frustration i felt watching Qingyu being held responsible for adults' faults, and how much i hate this kind of messages because that's not true we don't have to forgive our parents if they're awful, they chose to be awful no-one is forcing them. That's also why the writer chose that era of china to write his story so they can force the parents of Qingyu to stay together even if they should've split up long before the beginning of the story.

The only tearful moments i had were the teacher and the earthquake and Qiao Beiyu's video. Oh that poor girl ! She's the only one i pitied and empathised with. I was so sad for her. I don't have the words to describe how much i felt her pain and her distress.

BUT ! I can't say the acting wasn't on point ! Qingyu's Mom is an incredible actress same for the dad and Beiyu, the leads were rightly chosen nothing felt wrong in the story acting wise.
Romance wise i think they should've introduced it earlier slowly instead of puting it in the end like when you forgot to put salt in your meal so you add it at the end, but the taste isn't right.

Not Perfect, But So Much Fun to Watch!

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did! 😆 Xia Yan and Fang Yun somehow end up inside a novel as supposedly doomed characters—Fang Yun stuck as the devoted wife of the scheming Gu Bo Chuan, and Xia Yan thrown into the villainous Gu Wang’s orbit. It sounds tragic on paper, but in practice? They’re secretly living it up, indulging in every luxury while putting on a perfectly tragic act. Watching them scheme, flirt with chaos, and just survive in style is half the fun.

The couples may lack strong romantic chemistry, but honestly, it’s fun to watch them trying—their efforts make their scenes entertaining and add charm to the story. The absolute highlight is when Shen Mian Mian returns and Xia Yan and Fang Yun team up to escape the story’s tragic ending—chaotic, clever, and full of surprises! 🎉

The plot can be confusing at times, especially with the transmigration premise. Storytelling is a bit uneven, pacing is chaotic, and some emotional moments don’t fully land. In my opinion, it’s still a totally binge-worthy and fun ride. 💖

Wow

I have to admit that it's close to impossible for me to watch a full Chinese series without skipping or dropping it, no matter how great it is, the last show I remember that I managed to finish was the prisoner of beauty, and I skipped a lot while watching, I remember rating it less than it deserves cause I had a thing or two I didn't like.
Also I'm a serial binge-watcher "if that even make any sense lol" so I get bored when I watch a show while it is being aired.

But I guess I found the perfect formula to enjoy long Chinese series cause that's how I managed to finish and enjoy this show.
A couple of episodes every other day.

Now the real review, the beginning was very strong! I was really mesmerized by the FL she was so beautiful and of course the ML, the reverse damsel in distress was a nice touch, if it wasn't for the way they overdid it, I mean a butcher's daughter who can fight is one thing, but to kill a very strong worrier "a leader nonetheless" who is an expert during a war when she has always lived her life in a small countryside Is just a stretch, I could understand the whole saving the ML thing, but not that.
However, I loved her character, her stubborn personality, her relationship with the ML and their great love.

The whole fighting for power was boring to me, but it was well written so I have nothing to complain about, I knew this isn't my cup of tea from the beginning, and I was watching for the bits that I like so that's completely fine, I can't have my cake and eat it too.

The comedic relief was amazing, I had a few good laughs while watching specially in the beginning.
And the way everything ended was amazing.

One thing I didn't like but still couldn't decrease my rating was the Hypothetical scenario in the end where the massacre did not happen, I loved every thing about it except for the second couple "QianQian and QiMin" and how they ended their story, I mean I loved them together, I completely loved how they ended them in the original timeline, he deserves it, but the second scenario, I don't understand why couldn't they end it happily.

I still found it unnecessarily stretched like most Chinese shows, but again, it's what it is, I can't buck the trend ~~

Overall I think it was a good series, I recommend it for whoever likes the genre ~~

Society or Cowardice?

The selfishness of one destroys the life of two. The reason behind their pain is a cowardly excuse as it doesn't hold up at the end. Azusa worked hard to fit in and worked even harder to hurt Yusuke more after they broke up by asking him to take his wedding photos, love someone else and to add not him. Yet, clearly he did this to still see him. Turning the knife slowly and deeper with every word.

I was left angry not with the decision to get married but by including Yusuke like that and giving directives like it's an easy thing to pick up or put down at will. People will do what they choose to do but to tag someone along, especially knowing the pain he previously created, was cruel.

Kenya is a very good actor. In 30 minutes we experienced the binding pain of a refused and controlled love. Even his movements, his walking pace felt painful.

The director did a great job speaking without verbalizing much. The body movements, the still moments, the convo between them is very effective.

Definitely worth the watch.
