Overhyped

I really wanted to like this drama since I love both Chen Yi and Liu Xue Yi, but boy did this disappoint.
I skimmed through episodes and then finally gave up completely after about episode 23.
What a waste of time.

The female lead is so badly written. She's at times super childish and doesn't understand anything, and then at times behaves as if she does have emotions and understanding of human interactions. She's super dumb, but what does intelligence have to do with lack of emotional understanding? Why is she so dumb? She's supposed to lack empathy, not intelect.
Example: is it so hard to understand you're not supposed to take his mask off the second time, and then AGAIN forget where you've put it, when there was the whole drama the first time you took it off and forgot? Why are you clinging to this man if you have no emotions? Why are you persistent at throwing yourself at danger when you know this only gets others killed? How can a character be so badly written?
I started cheering halfway for her to get killed, she's so annoyingly written.

And the bad guy, with the "evil" laughter? Don't get me started on that, it was so cringe in every scene.
And her sister, arguing with the spirit snake like a five year old child? Why? You're an accomplished cultivator, presumably you learned some self control.
So many examples of just really poor writing.
So many situations happen just to move the plot along, whether they suit the character or not. So many decisions made just to make the story go forward, regardless of the inconsistencies this creates in the drama characters.

The actors gave their best, but the writing was terrible. One of rare Chen Yi dramas I just couldn't watch until the end. Still have no idea why this mess got 8.6 stars. It certainly fooled me into starting it.

More Twisted Than Terrifying

Seriously, there's going to be lots of spoiler. Hopefully, I avoid the major one.

I went into *The Stain* expecting a horror movie. The trailer looked promising, and the premise of a mysterious woman, a troubled past, an apartment complex, and a supernatural presence sounded like exactly my kind of thing. I also noticed its relatively low 6.7 rating on MyDramaList, so I wasn't expecting a masterpiece. What I wasn't prepared for was how much the movie is actually a psychological relationship drama with horror slowly creeping into the background.

About halfway through, I'm still undecided whether this is a good horror movie, but I am definitely interested in the story.

The strongest part so far is the relationship between the characters. Pran and Malee knew each other since childhood, and their history is much darker and more complicated.

Pran is probably the most interesting character to me so far. He initially comes across as quiet and caring, especially because he falls for Malee first and clearly carries feelings for her from childhood. But there are warning signs everywhere. His childhood relationship with violence, his tendency to immediately want to eliminate problems, his reaction to the cat, his beating of Kim, and the moment he nearly hits Malee all suggest that there is something deeply wrong underneath his calm exterior.

What makes him more interesting is that he seems to know it himself. He openly tells Namsai that he's afraid he might hurt Malee. That self-awareness doesn't necessarily make him less dangerous; if anything, it makes the character more complicated.

Asanai is another character I can't quite figure out. At first, he seems like Pran's loyal friend who can calm him down when his temper gets out of control. But the more he talks to Malee and Pran, the more manipulative he seems. He tells Malee that Pran could eventually hurt her, tells her that he could give her more than Pran, and later encourages Pran to think that Malee could leave him just as easily as she left Kim.

Then there's Namsai. She's probably the biggest contrast to Malee. Malee feels like someone who has already been damaged by life, while Namsai initially feels almost untouched by it. She's cheerful, vibrant, easy-going and brings a completely different atmosphere whenever she appears. I can understand why Pran is drawn to her, even though his attachment to Malee is much deeper.

However, I can understand why people describe this movie as more of a psychological/relationship drama than straight horror. The horror isn't constant. A lot of the runtime is spent on relationships, jealousy, trauma, manipulation and sexual tension. If you're expecting something like *Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum* or *Siccin*, this isn't that kind of horror.

So far, I'd describe *The Stain* as **a psychological relationship drama that slowly mutates into supernatural horror**, rather than a pure horror movie.

Misunderstood mess

This could have been such an amazing drama.....
And honestly, it *was*... until the first crush crashed.🫩🫩🫩
The moment she appeared, the story suddenly did three backflips and landed directly on its head. I am genuinely convinced the person writing this drama before her arrival and the person writing it afterwards were two completely different people.
Because how else do we explain this?
How can one contestant force another contestant to choose her by threatening to destroy the entire reality show? Forget contracts, legal paper work, confidentiality agreements, production authority and every other piece of reality-show logic. Apparently, all you need is enough audacity and suddenly the contestant has more power than the people running the production.......
"Make it make sense."

But honestly, I'm even more disappointed by how badly the drama wasted the ML's Pinocchio syndrome. That premise had SO much potential.
But Instead of exploring the consequences of a protagonist who literally cannot lie, the story keeps wandering into side plots and characters the audience barely cares about. And then we get ML's bother flirting with the director/captain... Sure, she was great. But ML's brother? .... Really?
While SML is sitting there drowning in his own emotional agony, these people suddenly become the second couple ......No!!! Nobody asked.



The two things that genuinely saved this drama for me were the **acting and the music**.

Almost every actor did a great job, from the leads all the way to FL's African assistant. Everyone brought something to their roles.
ML especially impressed me. It's my first time watching Ko Kyung-pyo step so far outside the comfort zone I've seen from him, and he delivered such a refined performance. His expressions and body language were absolutely hilarious, and a lot of the character's charm came from how naturally he played those moments.

And then there's the music. Definitely one of the highlights of the drama. The background tracks were fun.

Overall, I wouldn't tell anyone to avoid this drama completely. Give the first few episodes a shot. They were genuinely enjoyable, and the premise had enough potential to make you curious about where things were going.Just don't ask me how long you should stay. That depends entirely on how much patience you have left when the writing decides to take a vacation. 😭

Fake family....chaotic neighborhood....big money...and a brillian antagonist.

The Apartment Job is a surprisingly fun and entertaining watch that delivers a great mix of crime, comedy, and heart. The unique premise sets it apart from typical K-dramas, taking the concept of an apartment complex scheme and turning it into a chaotic, thrilling ride.

The biggest strength of the series lies in its characters and their relationships. What starts as an unusual setup between strangers gradually evolves into a touching found-family dynamic. Watching the group navigate ridiculous situations together gives the show a lot of warmth. The neighborhood setting feels alive, and the supporting residents add plenty of humor and personality to every episode.

The performances are fantastic across the board. Ji Sung once again shows off his immense charisma, balancing funny, lighthearted moments with intense emotional depth effortlessly. Ha Yoon-kyung matches his energy brilliantly, making their on-screen dynamic one of the drama's best highlights. Park Byung-eun also delivers a standout performance, bringing real tension to the story as a compelling antagonist.

While the pacing slows down slightly in the later stretch and the romance takes more of a subtle back seat (I wish they would have focused on that lead romance atleast at the end), the series makes up for it with solid comedy, clever twists, and a satisfying wrap-up. If you want a fresh, easy-to-watch comedy thriller with great chemistry and a big heart, drama is well worth your time.

A very cute Esport Drama

Since a long time i'have this drama in my MDL Recs so i tried it yesterday and damn, it's was so good.

I'm not a big watcher of modern dramas but i used to be a big games player so i said "why not" and i started Falling into your smile and it's was a very good décision.

Xu Kai and Cheng Xiao are so cute together, i think almost every review can tell you that. There almost no toxicity in this drama, its all about Esport, Romance and cutiness. I really liked how, throughout some of the episodes, they explained the difficulties of being a professional esports player, especially the somewhat lonely side of it and how difficult it can be to have a private life.
I also like that they highlight the possibility for a woman to join an esports team, even though in reality there are hardly any mixed gender teams in games like League of Legends, for example.

The team with them as support roles are very good too, very fast we become a part of their team, i laughed many times with them, The supporting characters deserved to have more developed storylines. Of course, there are quite a few stereotypes and caricatures. The characters are all good looking, the FL’s best friend could easily be a model, and the obsession with beauty is still very much present.

Overall it's a very great drama, you watch it with a cup of hot chocolate and that it.

Promised Ghosts and Mystery, delivered generic Rom-com

It's always intriguing to watch Park Eun-bin in a fresh drama. Her acting prowess is unique and hence I decided to give Spooky In Love a chance.
The story follows the main FL, who can see ghosts and that alone is enough to make an intriguing story. However, what I witnessed is a story that moves from supernatural to rom-com abruptly.

The first half of the show is well-written, with suspense and drama surrounding the dead. The backstory of each character sounds interesting, even though everything is predictable. The FL and ML does get their chemistry right while solving the mysteries together.

The second half is where the show gets completely off the track. The whole 'seeing ghosts' aspect is totally forgotten and it becomes a generic rom-com. The chemistry between the leads starts to feel forced and poorly developed. The pacing becomes sluggish and few scenes felt way too overstretched. There is even half an episode that plays like a Singapore tourism campaign, with the leads running around famous landmarks for reasons the script itself does not seem especially interested in explaining.

Many of the conflicts feel unnecessary, the climax feels unearned, and the whole thing never gives viewers much reason to care. It keeps insisting things are important without doing the difficult part of making them feel important. The character of Park Eun Bin felt underutilized and underdeveloped, given the actress's catalogue.

Overall, Spooky In Love begins with ghosts and mystery, but turns into recycled, generic rom-com that delivers nothing substantial and becomes forgettable by all means. I hope Park Eun Bin bounces back with another strong drama.

i am in disbelief.

seriously bro, i am shocked. this BL was at least an eight and a half until great got shot. no, like, what actually happened?

what was the purpose of colliding the seemingly differing universes? why did great's four minute ability stop after him and his mother were shot? did that great even recover? the whole story was nearly impossible to track after they were shot. the former is considering that both timelines shared several of the same happenings. anyway, the converging of the different timelines where great was actually respectable to him being a coward accomplice made no sense at all ! why was that even a decision made? why was it made to seem like tyme then developed the ability? how does that even make sense? hello? in the end, great and lukwa never even sat down to converse about their abilities in front of the audience. apparently some figure [the person in the gallery] can grant this power to people so how did tyme "get" it? why was the story not switched back to the more favorable sequence with great not being an absolute POS?

be on cloud / sammon straight up ruined what could have been a masterpiece. the acting was good. the intimacy was wild and good [there was even full nudity]. the opening and closing credits were memorable and good. they even played another rendition of that unforgettable song from kinnporsche. then they ruined the whole story with this convoluted mess. how can a convergence seem like a disjointing? i stopped feeling connected to the story as soon as great number one got shot and great number two was made the focal.

i must have missed something because this was just a mess and a waste of time to watch.

I needed more!

Overall, it was a good movie to me.

There was romance, comedy, even alittle bit of drama.

The acting was solid.

I can’t speak on character development considering there wasn’t enough of their backstory shown to make an adequate assessment.

I would’ve liked to see more of their journey to finding their way back to each other.

It would’ve been nice to see their childhood together and how their bond developed/changed over time.

I wanted to see the yearning and the depth of their connection that drew them back together.

This story would’ve made a beautiful romance series instead of a movie but I still enjoyed watching it nonetheless.

Riveting action, comedy medical drama and I love that ML is in his 40s!

It was Friday evening and instead of the usual Chinese vertical dramas, I decided to watch Korean long-form dramas. I selected this one because I was curious to watch Ju Ji Hoon dramas in full (I don't recall if I have finished Light Shop). I was extremely delighted with my choice because this drama was simply awesome.

What I liked:
1. Acting - Spectacular performance by the cast. Ju Ji Hoon was simply cool playing a doctor with an ambiguous past. Darn, oppa was fit and his action scenes were riveting! I was impressed by Choo Young Woo's performance as I had never heard of him before watching this drama. Ha Young , Yoon Kyung Ho and Kim Won Hae were amazing in their roles too. I was happy to see the latter two in meaty roles.
2. ML characterisation - One thing that stands out about the ML is the way he's written. I really liked that this drama was not too focused on him as an individual but as him as representative of many great doctors doing extraordinary work. His constant reminders of "it's teamwork, it's not about me" were refreshing. I also liked that his past was not fully fleshed out leaving ML "mystery guy" tag right until the end of the series.
3. Supporting characters - Dr Yang Jae Won's arc is my favourite. In addition to being the heart of the team, I liked that his character was uncertain of his "ikigai" and we watch his potential being unveiled slowly throughout the series. I was also surprised by Dr Han Yu Rim's arc as I expected him to remain as a goon to his superiors until the final episode. Cheon Jang Mi was entertaining to watch - she was secure, non-sensical and courageous person.
4. Action - Wow, wow, wow action scenes were thrilling. Most did not make sense but heck, this is fiction. Dr Baek was like a hero that possess both brains and brawn.
5. Comedy - My mum was surprised that I laughed constantly while watching the drama.
6. Styling - I really liked the wardrobe chosen for the three leads. It amused me when I saw them wearing crocs for work - are they really comfortable for big amount of running & standing? Those suits worn at the launch of helipad were adorable hahaha.
7. Storytelling - The transition from one episode to the next was refreshing because I expected each episode to focus on trauma case with final two episodes focusing on personal struggles. There was a good balance of major (trauma case) and minor (personal story) arcs with surprising twists in the final 2 episodes.

What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - I dislike people who prioritise profits over people's welfare. Chief Hong was obnoxious and asshat. I also didn't like Director Choi Jo Eun but that final twist changed my mind.
2. Ending - I need season 2, please!

A Little Bit of Magic Called VinYue ?❤️

**Some shows you watch. Some shows you feel. *When Light Fades* is the kind you carry with you long after the screen goes dark.**

There is something so quietly beautiful about this series. The story, the atmosphere, the cinematography, the music—all of it comes together to create this melancholic, almost dreamlike experience that completely consumed me.

But at the heart of it all are **Vin and Yue**. Their relationship never felt rushed or manufactured. It was built through little moments, lingering looks, vulnerability and an understanding that slowly deepened until they simply became each other's person. **Bas and Lhongchang were phenomenal together.** Their chemistry felt effortless, and they made every emotional beat feel genuine.

What really stayed with me was how human the characters felt. They weren't perfect, they were simply trying to find love, hope and a little happiness in circumstances that gave them very little of either.

And that ending… 🥹 It was happy, but somehow still left me with this beautiful ache. The kind where you're relieved for them but already mourning the fact that you won't get to watch their story unfold anymore.

**Poetic, heartbreaking, tender and unforgettable.**

I came for the story and stayed for Vin and Yue. I finished it loving both.

Why SOTUS Still Holds a Special Place in My Heart

Coming back to rewatch SOTUS after taking a whole year away from social media and the BL world brings back so many memories. This was actually the second BL I ever watched—right at the start of COVID.

At first, you might want to pull your hair out over Arthit's strict, over-the-top hazing rules and intimidating facade. But peeling back those layers to reveal a soft-hearted, sweet senior who genuinely cares about his juniors (and has a secret obsession with pink milk!) makes his character arc so rewarding.

Absolute perfection as a freshman lead. Pob is bold, incredibly smart, unapologetically vocal about his feelings, and completely unafraid to challenge the broken system—and Arthit's walls—head-on. His confidence never crossed into arrogance, which made him so easy to root for.

The "enemies-to-lovers via university hazing" trope is executed brilliantly here. What makes their dynamic work so well is the emotional push-and-pull. Kongpob slowly chipping away at Arthit’s defenses doesn't feel rushed; it builds through shared responsibilities, secret vulnerabilities, and gradual trust. When Arthit finally drops his guard and lets Kongpob in, the emotional payoff is massive.

For the supporting roles, while some of the hazing traditions look intense and archaic by today's standards, the camaraderie among the engineering freshman group adds so much heart to the show. Watching the tight-knit bond form between the students as they survive the brutal training together grounds the story in a very realistic, nostalgic university setting.

And let's not forget, Off. I met Off here for the first time, which is the start of my fandom and I get to watch their series with Gun which is my third BL.

Overall, SOTUS isn't just about romance; it's a slow-burn journey about mutual respect, breaking down preconceptions, and finding comfort in unexpected places. It will always have a nostalgic, golden-standard spot for me!

A découvrir

Un magnifique drama, porté par une histoire bien plus complexe qu'une simple romance. Pour moi, c'est avant tout l'histoire de trois hommes qui aiment une même femme, chacun à leur manière, mais aussi et peut-être surtout celle des liens qui vont se construire et/ou évoluer entre ces mêmes hommes. C'est là que le drama prend toute sa dimension et réserve certains de ses plus beaux moments.

Les intrigues sont nombreuses, parfois complexes, mais elles se rejoignent et sont très bien menées. Les personnages secondaires ont une vraie place et les derniers épisodes, particulièrement forts en émotions, donnent encore davantage de profondeur à tout ce qui s'est construit jusque-là. Le casting est excellent, avec une mention toute particulière pour Ci Sha.

En revanche, je le conseillerais davantage pour son histoire et ses personnages que pour sa romance. Le couple principal fonctionne, mais il est parfois un peu dépossédé de sa propre histoire au profit de tout ce qui se joue autour de lui, et cela empêche malheureusement de s'y investir émotionnellement autant qu'on aurait pu le souhaiter.

Malgré ce bémol, A Splendid Match reste une très belle réussite, riche, émouvante et remarquablement portée par ses personnages.

Beyond the Crime: Pain, Trauma & Justice

This series is proving to be so much more than just a crime thriller. What makes it so powerful is the way it explores pain, suffering, past trauma, responsibility, and the uncertainty of what comes next. Kay and Phat are not only trying to uncover the truth behind the murders, they are also carrying the emotional weight of everything they have been through. Their past trauma continues to affect their choices, their trust, and the way they see the people around them.

I also love how the story gives a voice to innocent people who have been failed or silenced by a corrupt system. The deeper they go, the more it feels like justice is not simply about finding a culprit. It is about facing a system where powerful people can hide the truth and where the innocent are left to suffer. That constant uncertainty makes every episode more intense because you never really know who to trust or what painful truth might come out next.

And the acting makes all of this even more impactful. Dew’s portrayal of Kay’s pain, vulnerability, suspicion, and inner conflict is phenomenal, while Tee brings so much emotional depth to Phat. Their chemistry feels natural, and the way they show complicated emotions through their expressions and silent looks is one of the strongest parts of the series. You can feel the pain, doubt, fear, and slowly developing trust without everything having to be said out loud.

The dark atmosphere, intense crime scenes, psychological tension, and the contrast between the manga panels and the live-action scenes make the series feel unique and eerie. The pacing is also getting more intense with every episode, and I love how it keeps giving us more questions instead of easy answers. A beautifully written story with powerful performances. This is becoming a truly unforgettable psychological crime drama.
