It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't as good as it could've been

The cast was amazing, the production was great, and even the OST fit perfectly, but for me the drama fell short when it came to the story itself.

The biggest flaws?
The character arcs were flat, and the same goes for the relationships between the characters. The whole cast had such great chemistry, but the screenwriter and director failed to make proper use of it.

They missed the opportunity to make me feel engaged when I should have been. I really wanted to care about the characters and feel shocked at the right moments. Unfortunately, that just wasn't the case.

We had SO MANY relationships that could've made this drama MUCH better if they had been properly developed. And then there were the villains. The Queen Mother and her father were kind of okay, but Jeongu's whole arc felt like a joke to me.

Pros
(+) Cast (top class! they did everything they could with the screenplay they were given)
(+) Production (noticeably very high quality)
(+) OST (the BGM really worked at times, enhancing the scenes and emotions)

Cons
(-) Flat character arcs (especially the Prime Minister, whose ending just made me feel sad for the actor who played him)
(-) Wasted potential of the whole AMAZING cast (they had a team of actors capable of handling much more complex and nuanced emotions, only for it to go unused)

It's a stretched 8/10 for me.

I enjoyed it, but I was also really angry while watching the final episode.
Yes, it was a romantic comedy, but I refuse to settle for that excuse. A good comedy should still have some depth to it.

Safeplace and green forest

Love You Teacher is truly everything to me. This series holds such a special place in my heart that I honestly can’t fully describe what I think, feel, or carry inside because of it. There simply aren’t enough words for it.

I cried so many tears, tears of pain, but also tears of love. Both actors, as well as little Sun, did an absolutely incredible job. From the very beginning, I was careful and a little unsure about the story, but deep down I already knew this was going to become something truly special.

Love You Teacher is so much more than just another series, and I genuinely hope it reaches even more viewers and BL lovers, because this BL deserves every single bit of love and recognition it gets.

Shiny outside....messy inside!

Let me tell you the truth...I was extremely excited when they announced Perfect Crown,specially with IU and Byun Wooseok. I can trust IU after her fantastic script choices like My Mister and When Life Gives You Tangerines. And BWS has been an absolute sweetheart,and the way his career graph rose after Lovely Runner, been so happy to be a witness of that. So Perfect Crown was a fantastic opportunity to bring two of my favs together.

But...my oh my the way all my excitements went to drain after the episodes started to air. They had IU,BWS,catchy cinematography, shiny sets,eye catching entry of the leads,some good supporting casts and all the love from the fans.
But they lacked the most important things for a drama,some good chemistry between the leads,good development of the story,world building,character depths and overall a good ending of all the plotholes.

One thing I realised,IU shines the most in slice of life dramas. Romcom isn’t still her forte,most of the time her eye roles and unpleasant facial expressions were annoying. And her character was somehow shallow too....idk,a rich cinderella shouting on everyone cause of her issues with her father....and then going for a fake marriage with the prince who is ofcourse,already in love with her for YEARS but never made a move until she did...yeah,understandable ig. BWS has always been a pretty faced handsome actor and they used it well by introducing him as bare bodied,showering. But when these two met..there was very little spark. Idk whose fault was that,but there was very little chemistry in the whole show. Even their secretaries had better natural chemistry than these two.

And when you are working on such sensitive plot like the coexistence of monarchy and constituency, it becomes complex. 12 episodes can never do justice to this. The characters lacked depth and their motives were barely touched. I mean.... The PM of the country,such a high reputable status,kept burning the palace cause he can't accept his childhood crush, to whom he never confessed,marrying the Prince.... Isn’t it funny??? Give the characters some time to breathe, let them develop a proper motive,let their actions have some real issue of conflicts.

Also silly plotlines like that car accident... Only for giving the prince a HERO moment before his lover...instead of working on many plotholes like why the late king hated his son,what was the conflict between the prince and his late brother,how did their fake marriage contract got exposed,who sabotaged huijoos car,why there wasn’t any fire extinguisher in the palace when the same place got burned three times..... I lost count actually. They could make such a great drama with proper backstories,characters properly talking, without abrupt cuts if they made it at least 16 episodes.What a waste of potential. And that rushed ending just sealed the deal for me.Didn’t understand where did the PM go,why he just got vanished after his final confrontation with the prince. Also the whole thing about the abolishment of monarchy seemed like something they made up the last moment without any proper buildup or preparations only to give the drama an ending.

One character that shined the most even with intense complexity with her role was Queen Dowager. Gong Seung Yeon nailed it. Her guilt about the late king,her complex relation with the prince,her fear,her protectiveness towards her son....everything was portrayed perfectly.

If you want a romcom without any sort of depth of plot,just eye catching visuals and pretty faces,you will enjoy it. Unfortunately for me,it was'nt anything great from IU or BWS.

The kind of romcom that completely sweeps you away

It fully embraces romance, longing, tension, ridiculous adorable moments, emotional vulnerability, all of it, without ever being embarrassed by its own identity. From the very beginning, I was completely invested in Hui Ju and Grand Prince Ian. Their relationship carries the entire drama so naturally because beneath all the banter, contract marriage tropes, and glamorous royal setting, there’s something genuinely emotional connecting them. They’re both trapped in lives shaped by expectations and status, just in completely different ways, and I loved how the story keeps bringing them together through that shared loneliness. The chemistry between them was honestly everything. Every interaction felt entertaining, romantic, or emotionally charged in some way, to the point where I barely cared about the political conflicts happening around them because I was so invested in watching these two slowly become each other’s safe place. And visually? Absolutely gorgeous. The series genuinely feels expensive in the best way possible, elegant cinematography, majestic settings, beautiful costumes, and this almost dreamy portrayal of a fictional modern constitutional monarchy that completely pulls you in. At the same time, I do understand some criticisms regarding the pacing and the political side, especially because certain darker twists or traumatic events are resolved a little too quickly without fully exploring their emotional consequences. You can definitely feel that the drama would have benefited from having more episodes to let everything breathe properly. But honestly? Once I accepted that the romance was always meant to be the true center of the story, everything clicked for me. It never tried to be a heavy political drama, it wanted to be emotional, entertaining, beautiful, and deeply romantic, and for me it succeeded completely. The ending especially felt satisfying in a way so many shorter dramas fail to achieve, and I genuinely didn’t want this world or these characters to end.

THIS IS A MUST WATCH

From the beginning of this series, I knew it would be good. It was so good I had to watch it four times. I discovered ZLH from this drama but I’ve always been a fan of YSX/Esther and she didn’t disappoint me with this one. I’ve been praying for her to act in multiple dramas with this type of role and I’m getting something like that soon (🤭😝😝😝).

But yeah, y’all, when I tell you this deserves every single 10/10 rating, it does. Everyone did their part so well, even the villains were great. I didn’t hate a single character except Han Ya Qi.

If you want something dark, unpredictable, fun, entertaining, thrilling, definitely watch this. Bonus cause Shangguan Qian is literally a goddess too lol 💋💋💋

drama had gripped

I absolutely loved this drama!! I’m big fan of ML, his acting is always so sincere. the FL honestly she’s never been my favorite but this performance completely redeemed her for me. 10/10.
the special fx were TEA!!! so beautiful and cinematography on point!!
the story sometime seemed to hit lulls but somehow added more depth to the bond between the leading couple. I was so invested I was crying so hard during the sad parts. like straight ugly cry 😂 Definitely a slow burn but a very gentle but also powerful romance story. will definitely rewatch one day!!

- that "family" was total trash and they had zero consequences for constantly lying/gaslighting him
- a character swore he would be his memories and when he really needed to do that....he didn't
- open ending
- timeline/what was happening was a bit confusing in the beginning but it was cleared up in episode 1 part 4
- unethical doctor and terrible brother
- nonsense stuff: why didn't a main character have a journal or video diary right away, why wouldn't him and the other ML come up with a plan as they could have easily guessed what would happen the next morning

CLASSIC FIRST LOVE STORY

A Love So Beautiful

Shen Yue = Chen Xiao Xi
Hu Yitian = Jiang Chen

The start of this drama was so cute. It was youthful, showing their school moments starting off with the time when Jiang Chen ignored Chen Xiao Xi. He was the grumpy neighbor that doesn’t talk, but scores really well on tests. She was the talkative neighbor who had a crush on Jiang Chen and struggled a little bit in school. It is one of the most classic kind of enemies/friends to lovers.

Episode 1: I love how Jiang Chen was ready to stand up for Chen Xiao Xi no matter if he was acting like he’s always annoyed by her. He catches the comments made in school about her, he was going to help her in the fight, he helped her stand up to the principal reading her own personal love letters, and he was able to connect the dots with the accidental love letter he received. Also, that little snippet at the end where we get his gentle side that morning that Chen Xiao Xi woke up really early to see him. From that point on, he also started to actually wait on her in the mornings, showing his compassion. He is def one of those like characters that appear morally gray, but actually care a lot about Chen Xiao Xi.

Episode 3: Jiang Chen just takes a while to warm up. At the end, he realizes that Xiao Xi is a pretty genuine person when it comes to her actions. Yes, she can be goofy, but she also knows what’s right from what’s wrong. She still owned up to her mistakes with the class money. Also, he says he doesn’t care and she isn’t fit to be the class leader material, but he still tries to help her find the money back. If it wasn’t for him, Chen Xiao Xi would be in way bigger trouble and her family would have to make up the 1000 dollars. And then at the end, with him riding his bike and laughing with her. He’s definitely warming up.

Episode 4: I have no clue why I never noticed how tall Hu Yitian is. He’s like double Shen Yue’s height. He had to fully bend down 90 degrees for her to reach his head. Anyway, like we’ve noticed Jiang Chen just takes a while to warm up. He didn’t help her practice hurdles until he found out she was doing it for him. He was so proud after she ran too. I kind of feel bad for Wu Bosong though. These past couple episodes it’s been so clear he likes Chen Xiao Xi. He’s done so much for her but she only sees him as a friend.

Episode 5: Jiang Chen starting to get jealous of Chen Xiao Xi and Wu Bosong was so funny. Him teasing her with putting the book even higher😭 Holy, he is so much taller.

Episode 6: Aww Wu Bosong suffering so much because of his care for Chen Xiao Xi. He’s the one that got her out of her mood and fought with his dad. He defended her character to his dad. Jiang Chen is confusing me. I don’t like his actions and words spoken towards Chen Xiao Xi. But, he still did defend her against those men and was more worried when he found out her transferring schools was real. Jiang Chen came at just the right time. Him convincing her to stay and whispering that to her shows how much he cared and wants her to stay.

Episode 7: Jiang Chen’s jealous side coming out. Him denying the seat next to Chen Xiao Xi at first until someone else wanted to claim that seat. The classic friend group shouting. I always love that scene with all youth dramas. The way Jiang Chen’s face dropped when Wu Bosong pulled Chen Xiao Xi aside to say that she is his motivation.

Episode 8: Jiang Chen needs to hurry this process up. He’s so wishy-washy with Chen Xiao Xi even though he always ends up caring for and helping her. He just needs to confess bc he already knows that she likes him. Or else it’s gonna be too late and Wu Bosong is going to take her.

Episode 9: With the debate, even though Jiang Chen got jealous every time Wu Bosong is mentioned, he helped Chen Xiao Xi make a good point and not embarrass herself. He also helped her with some key words because he knows what helps her. However, I was touched by Wu Bosong and his reaction, he seemed so proud of her. Also, the fact he played off his love confession to lessen the stress on Chen Xiao Xi showed how much he cares for her. Idk man, right now, Wu Bosong is the better guy and Jiang Chen still needs to step it up a bit in his expression of ideas and his thoughts.

Episode 12: Ah! The infamous scene. Li Wei is really pissing me off bro. Jiang Chen has clearly shown that he isn’t interested in you and you still overstep your boundaries. Not only do you see Chen Xiao Xi crying, but then you go and try to kiss Jiang Chen in front of her? Like thats just messed up. Wu Bosong bro. He does so much for Chen Xiao Xi, he balances swim, pays for a bunch of stuff, and shows up for her when she needs it. Him covering her eyes and turning her away with that angry look on his face…they better stay friends forever and Wu Bosong better find someone for him. He’s really a good guy. I don’t think Jiang Chen is a bad guy either, but he’s more of that morally grey type of character rather than Wu Bosong’s golden retriever energy. Chen Xiao Xi is growing through stuff bro. Her long time crush is fading to her and I feel so bad because she’s still just a girl trying to navigate life. Her first love just got stolen away from her in her own eyes, so I understand the depression she’s feeling.

Episode 14: Finally, Jiang Chen is making a move. He took that “I love you” plant and put it in Chen Xiao Xi’s bag. I still need the verbal confession though. Aw, poor Lu Yang. Everyone was tricking him the entire time by not telling him that Lin Jingxiao liked Li Shu. Not only that, but that whole heart attack scare was really really unexpected. I really liked that scene because of the family and community that it demonstrated though. Li Shu being the person trying to save Lu Yang and all of his friends helping him. No matter what struggles they were going through, they all united in their love and care for Lu Yang. Lu Yang’s public annoucement and confession to Lin Jingxiao was so cute bro. It took guts and I loved how Wu Bosong and Jiang Chen helped him by holding off Director Zhang.

Episode 17/18: What the heck, that kiss from Jiang Chen came out of left field. I mean, it didn’t because we as the audience could see his thoughts. But he hasn’t even verbally confessed yet. And then they suddenly became gf and bf without showing us how that happened. He kind of just assumed and there was not any formal, “I like you” and “I like you too, be my gf?” type of thing. It felt very Jiang Chen and Chen Xiao Xi like. Very lowkey and almost a little bit weird.

Episode 20: I’m a little bit confused about the series of events that happened. Are you telling me that Jiang Chen and Chen Xiao Xi broke up for 3 years because he went abroad to study? Then, when he comes back and they meet at the hospital, her and Wu Bosong are acting like they’re a couple. But then, Jiang Chen brings a fake date to the bachelor party. BUT THEN, that same night, Jiang Chen and Chen Xiao Xi kiss and Chen Xiao Xi is the one apologizing to Jiang Chen. Like, I’m so confused about this timeline and how everything is happening so fast. Are they now dating again? Like what’s going on?

Episode 22: Wow, I think this is the latest confession that I’ve seen, at least verbal confession. We finally got Jiang Chen saying all of his feelings out loud, all 4 min and 23 seconds of it. Wu Bosong bro, he was the one that basically got them back together through having Chen Xiao Xi on the phone while he was talking to Jiang Chen. Wu Bosong is literally the best, I wish he got a love interest of his own.

Un drama royal moderne… et totalement addictif !!!

Franchement… "Perfect Crown" m’a totalement embarquée !!! 👑👍🏻

Ici, on est dans une Corée encore régie par la monarchie, mais version moderne. Et honnêtement ?!? J’ai adoré cette ambiance 😏. Entre les hanboks et smartphones, les règles royales ultra strictes, les scandales, les conférences de presse, et toute cette image “parfaite” que la famille royale doit constamment renvoyer… le drama réussit super bien à mélanger tradition et modernité. Et clairement ça donne une identité vraiment forte à l’histoire 👌🏻

On va suivre Seong Hui Ju, une brillante PDG issue d’une famille riche et puissante. Elle a l’argent, l’intelligence, le charisme… mais malgré tout, elle reste regardée de haut à cause de sa naissance illégitime... Et honnêtement, j’ai adoré son personnage du début à la fin 🫶🏻

Hui Ju, c’est exactement le genre de FL que j’aime : audacieuse, rebelle, intelligente, ambitieuse… mais aussi profondément humaine. Elle refuse de se laisser écraser par un système qui décide de ta valeur selon ton statut, et franchement la voir tenir tête à tout ce monde-là, c’était un pur plaisir 😏🔥

En face, on a le prince joué par Byeon Woo Seok… et vraiment ce rôle lui va tellement bien. Derrière son image calme, parfaite et contrôlée, on sent quelqu’un qui étouffe complètement dans cette vie qu’on a choisie pour lui. Mais surtout… j’ai adoré son côté protecteur envers Hui Ju 😭👑

He trouve que leur dynamique fonctionne bien. On est clairement sur une romance à l’ancienne, avec les regards pleins de tension, les scandales, les moments où ils se rapprochent doucement malgré tout ce qui les sépare, les sauvetages 😍… bref, j’ai mangé chaque miette 😂

Et honnêtement, ça faisait longtemps qu’un drama ne m’avait pas donné cette vibe de “vieux” K-Drama dans le bon sens du terme 🫶🏻. Il y a ce côté très émotionnel, très progressif, où la relation prend vraiment le temps de se construire. Les sentiments ne tombent pas du ciel, et du coup certains moments frappent encore plus fort.

Puis le casting… wow 🤩 Franchement, tout le monde est bon. Le drama dégage ce côté très “haut de gamme”, autant dans les visuels que dans la présence des acteurs. Chaque personnage apporte quelque chose, et même les scènes plus politiques ou familiales restent intéressantes à suivre.

Par contre, je dois avouer que je n’ai pas été totalement convaincue par Min Jeong Woo en antagoniste principal... 🤔 Je comprends l’idée derrière son évolution, mais le fait que tout repose surtout sur la jalousie… je sais pas, ça m’a un peu frustrée 🤷🏼‍♀️. C'était trop facile... Personnellement, j’aurais préféré que le drama reste davantage centré sur la reine et son père, avec une vraie confrontation plus marquée entre les deux femmes. Je trouve que cette dynamique aurait été beaucoup plus intéressante et plus forte émotionnellement.

Par contre… énorme kiff aussi quand Hui Ju prend littéralement les devants pendant que le prince est inconscient 😭👑. Ce genre de moment résume parfaitement pourquoi j’ai autant aimé son personnage. Elle ne reste jamais passive. Même quand tout s’écroule autour d’elle, elle avance, elle agit, elle protège les gens qu’elle aime… et franchement j’étais là en mode “YES QUEEN !!! ” dommage ça ne dure pas 😒

Concernant la fin, j’ai trouvé que l’abolition de la monarchie avait du sens avec tout ce que le drama raconte sur les classes sociales, les privilèges et les traditions qui étouffent les individus. Mais je vais pas mentir… une partie de moi voulait quand même les voir régner ensemble 👑💪🏻

Genre un règne moderne version Hui Ju en Queen avec son Roi qu'elle aurait élevé ?!? Excusez-moi mais ça aurait été iconique 😏😂

Bref, malgré quelques choix que j’aurais faits différemment, "Perfect Crown" a été un petit coup de cœur 🫶🏻. Entre son ambiance royale moderne, sa romance "slow burn" ultra efficace, son casting masterclass et surtout Seong Hui Ju que j’ai ADORÉ suivre du début à la fin… le drama m’a totalement eux 😉✌🏻

Their dynamic is not driven by constant conflict or melodrama, but by gradual understanding, a push and pull much like water shaped by wind, and wind softened by water.

The political backdrop of the clans provides the structure for the story, though it is not always the most emotionally gripping element. Instead, it functions as the soil in which the central relationship grows. Betrayals, shifting alliances, and manipulation drive the plot forward, but they rarely overshadow the emotional evolution of the main couple.

The canal stands as the most powerful symbol in the entire drama. Once an unfinished promise torn apart by war and misunderstanding, it slowly transforms into a living metaphor for reconciliation. What begins as a fractured construction project between two clans eventually becomes a bridge, not only of water and trade, but of memory, forgiveness, and shared survival.

Emotionally, the drama does not rely on a single overwhelming peak, but rather on a steady accumulation of meaningful moments. Some deaths and losses add weight to the narrative, but the strongest impact comes from the slow erosion of hatred rather than explosive tragedy. This makes the experience more reflective than devastating.

Ultimately, The Prisoner of Beauty is not a story that leaves a permanent emotional wound, but rather one that lingers gently, like water flowing through stone over time. It is a drama about learning that peace is not the absence of history, but the decision to build something new upon it.

A solid, well-crafted, and thematically cohesive series, even if it never fully reaches emotional intensity at its peak.

was not obsessed with this

compared to the other two HIStory stories (My Hero and Stay Away From Me) this is definitely the better story. The acting and chemistry was good, the plot was decent - although some characters made very questionable choices. My biggest issue was the overall lack of consent between the two leads, Shao Yi Chen was way too forgiving of all of the things Chiang Chin Teng did to him. And the biggest point of contention between them (the reason Shao Yi Chen died and was avoiding Chiang Chin Teng) was resolved through a dream? Didn't make a ton of sense, lol but it was captivating which is more than I can say for the othe HIStory stories.

Eu sei que é um drama, mas tinha que ser tão dramático?

Confesso que estava esperando algo diferente, mas ainda assim não tiro a beleza dessa obra. É triste? Sim. Por isso sugiro que preparem os lenços. Eu particularmente gosto de obras que me emocionem, mesmo que para isso tenha que derramar várias lágrimas.
Eu gostei bastante da história, da atuação dos atores, dos cenários... Tudo foi tão realista, tão sentimental.
O vídeo que o Johan gravou no final foi o que mais me emocionou. Ele conta como a vida deles (dele e da irmã) se tornou difícil depois que a mãe morreu, e como o Ryu foi o conforto na vida dele depois que se conheceram.
É uma obra que vale a pena ser apreciada. Porém, acho que eu não aguentaria reassistir.
