A realistic drama that is worth watching

After finishing *Ye Gou Gu Tou*, I can honestly say that it was a rewarding experience. While it is not a perfect drama, its strengths far outweigh its flaws, making it one of the more memorable crime dramas I have watched this year.

One of the first things that stood out to me was the cinematography. Every frame was beautifully composed and helped establish the emotional tone of the story. The drama also did a great job balancing its emotional moments with the suspense of the criminal investigation, keeping me invested throughout most of the series.

That said, there were a few aspects of the writing that could have been handled better. Some plot points felt underdeveloped, particularly Chen Yi's family background. I kept expecting the drama to explain what happened to his parents, but that part of his story was never fully explored. There were also a few scenes that stretched realism a little too far. For instance, Zhang Bin being stabbed multiple times with such a large knife while showing almost no reaction to the pain felt somewhat unbelievable. Fortunately, these moments were relatively minor and did not take away from the overall experience.

The only creative choice that I personally did not enjoy was the decision to have the main couple live together. It is not something I particularly like seeing, but since the drama has a mature and realistic tone, I accepted it as part of the story rather than letting it affect my enjoyment.

When it comes to the performances, I have to admit that Zhang Jingyi did not immediately win me over. During the earlier episodes, I felt that some emotional scenes lacked impact. However, as the story progressed, her performance became increasingly natural and expressive. By the end of the drama, I completely understood why so many people admire her, and I can confidently say that I have become a fan.

One performance that deserves special recognition is the actress who played Miao Jing's mother. She portrayed such a layered and emotionally conflicted character that I found myself constantly torn between understanding her and feeling frustrated with her decisions. She even reminded me of Yang Zi because of her appearance. Watching her finally regret abandoning her daughter was heartbreaking, yet it also made Miao Jing's emotional distance from her feel entirely justified.

I also felt incredibly sorry for Uncle Zhou. Losing the love of his life was one of the most heartbreaking moments in the drama, and his grief was portrayed with great sincerity.

As for Zhang Bin, he was exactly the kind of antagonist who made every scene feel tense. His unsettling smile alone was enough to make me uncomfortable. He was the type of villain you genuinely wanted to see brought to justice, so watching him receive a life sentence was incredibly satisfying. More importantly, it finally allowed Chen Yi to move forward without fear and without having to hide the truth from Miao Jing.

If there is one thing I wish had been different, it would be the ending. I was really hoping for at least one scene showing Chen Yi and Miao Jing getting married or sharing a glimpse of their future together. Still, seeing Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi's natural chemistry during their promotional variety appearances somehow made up for that missing moment, so I eventually made peace with the conclusion.

The investigation itself was one of the strongest parts of the drama. Many cases kept me on edge and made me eager to see what would happen next. There were a few slower episodes where I wished the main characters had more screen time, but overall the suspense remained engaging from beginning to end.

I was also happy to see the drama receive a 6.9 rating on Douban. While some international viewers may consider that average, it is actually a respectable score for this type of realistic crime drama and reflects that it found its audience.

Finally, I want to give credit to the entire production team for bringing this story to life. I was especially impressed by Song Weilong's performance. I have often seen people criticize his acting as being stiff, but after watching several of his dramas, I simply cannot agree. I think he has a broad emotional range and expresses subtle emotions remarkably well. More importantly, he understands the characters he plays, and that is one of the reasons his dramas consistently perform well. This role is another example of how much he has continued to grow as an actor.

As for Zhang Jingyi, this was my first drama of hers. Although she needed a few episodes to completely draw me in, she ultimately delivered a performance that felt sincere and emotionally convincing. Together, she and Song Weilong created one of the drama's biggest strengths. Their chemistry felt effortless both on and off screen, making every interaction between Chen Yi and Miao Jing feel believable and heartfelt.

To be clear, I am not a shipper. I simply think they are wonderfully matched as co-stars, and their natural dynamic makes them genuinely enjoyable to watch together.

Overall, *Ye Gou Gu Tou* is not without flaws, but it succeeds where it matters most. With beautiful cinematography, strong performances, emotional storytelling, and an engaging investigation, it delivers an experience that stays with you long after the final episode. It is a realistic drama that I thoroughly enjoyed and one that I would happily recommend to anyone looking for a grounded, emotional crime story.

Some stories just need room to breathe

I'll admit that one of the main reasons I started this drama was Fluke, and it was so nice to finally have him back on my screen. There's something comforting about seeing an actor you've missed, and he reminded me why I've always enjoyed watching him. I liked the idea behind Saithan and Sila's relationship, and the peaceful farm setting gave the story a warm, cozy atmosphere that made it easy to watch. Sila was much softer and more caring than I expected, while Saithan's determination to stand on his own made him easy to root for. My biggest issue, though, was the pacing. Everything, especially the development of their relationship, happened a little too quickly. I never felt like I had enough time to fully see their feelings grow, which made some emotional moments less impactful than they could have been. Even so, I still had a good time with it. It may not be one of the strongest BLs I've seen, but it was a pleasant watch, and having Fluke back in a leading role was definitely one of the highlights for me.

Mediocre. Nothing special.

Rich with women scheming over men, to the point it’s uncomfortable.

Flatline (and even plain bad) acting, esp Dilraba and the super clingy female villains. All female characters are scheming or weak and lip trembling frail. Uninspired, bored acting in bad wigs.

Cheesy visuals like jumping on a bird to fly, but it looks shaky. This genre (which I love) needs at least some good effects to help bring the otherworldliness to life without recoiling and thinking, omg, that looked SO bad!

I found the side characters of Ghost Lord prince (Zhang BinBin) and his sister interesting, wish there was more.

Overall, I was so ready for a big love story between the leads and was bored by ep 25. Plus, Women wailing over nothing gets so old. It’s so second rate on so many levels, I’m shocked at the ratings.

For a micro-drama, this series is pretty good.

"Beneath the Moon's Shadow" is another dark-themed series we rarely have in the GL market. This micro-drama breaks away from the typical "fluffy" romance tropes by weaving a suspenseful story that combines a serial killer mystery with an enemies-to-lovers romantic dynamic.

Like most micro-dramas, the series' fast narrative pacing ensures that every 3-minute episode keeps viewers hooked with immediate cliffhangers. The tension between the two main characters—Lieutenant Thara and her rival Natcha—drives much of the story and how it doesn't center its main conflict onto disapproving parents or annoying exes. Their "forced proximity" trope effectively builds a complex romantic bond layered with mistrust and uncertainty while still focusing on the serial killer. However, despite its thrilling plot and good chemistry, the limitation of micro-drama format leads to certain flaws - the plot progression feels rushed and the complex plotlines suffer from a lack of deep exploration, leading to minimum character development. Also, the shift from being enemies to lovers feels abrupt.

Overall, Beneath the Moon's Shadow managed to deliver an engaging storyline, blending thriller elements with romantic tension, but still with some evident flaws. However, it can be considered a worthwhile addition to the GL genre, especially for anyone seeking a darker, more suspenseful storyline and also for anyone like me who's already tired of the generic GL romance series in the market.

Was Under The Radar, Turns Out Very Intense

What a surprise! This show was totally under the radar before. It was very intense, and they were able to keep the intensity throughout the whole show. This intensity sometimes made me forget that this show was aired free-to-air in local Korean TV, because the vibe and intensity totally matched OTT original productions.

The overall storyline wasn't the strongest point. It seemed very cliche with the story of some North Korean defector being wanted by both countries. Instead, they were able to cover it up and took advantages on other points such as the outstanding intensity. Since the first episode, the intensity continued to increase. Not a single episode would let you down. The casts were all really good, especially So Ji Sub as a ruthless secret agent. Seo Su Min did and impressive job as Kim Min Ji. The chemistry between characters Kim, Han Su and Jin Cheol was also excellent. The action scenes was the highlight for me. Tthe insert of comedy scenes was refreshing, thanks to Choi Dae Hoon and Yoon Kyung Ho to make it happen.

For an action show, the first episode was painfully slow. As usual, there are a lot of makjangs in the storyline, even from the beginning. The writer somewhat began to be a little confident about it, and as the story progressing there was more and more makjangs. Min Ji was tortured and locked in the trunk for like more than three days, but she somehow woke up with pretty good strength and even managed to escape.

Rare occasion where a free-to-air show came up with such intensity. It's should be on your 2026 watchlist!

Excitement fizzle out halfway through the drama

The initial few episodes were refreshing and nice. The island backdrop, medical drama, romance, and strong leads were all there, but it all came to a disappointing end. I got bored after a few episodes as the storyline got very monotonous and dull. There was absolutely no chemistry between the 2 leads, and the romance felt very forced. The female lead is constantly crying, and her smile looks forced. I actually found the second romance between the Eastern Korean Medicine doctor and the nurse much more refreshing. Towards the last few episodes, the story got really draggy, and I found myself fast-forwarding it. Overall, the drama lacks depth, lacks chemistry between the leads, and becomes so boring towards the end.

Not Perfect, But Definitely Enjoyable

I honestly didn't expect much from Prosecutor's Proposal, especially since it's a low-budget BL K-drama, but it was actually pretty good. Sure, the plot was kind of predictable, and I could see most of the twists coming, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. There were quite a few scenes that were genuinely interesting and kept me invested, and the chemistry between the leads was nice to watch.

One thing that really stood out to me was the acting. I thought the cast did a really good job and made the characters feel believable, which definitely made the drama more enjoyable. My only complaint is that I wish the episodes had been a bit longer because I wanted more time with the characters and their story.

It's not a groundbreaking drama, but for what it is, it delivers a fun and enjoyable experience. If you go into it without expecting anything too complex, it's definitely worth watching. Overall, it was a good watch, and I don't regret giving it a chance.

They carried this story with nothing but their eyes

What I loved most was how much was left unsaid. The emotions never felt exaggerated, and that made every heartfelt moment land even harder. Sky and Nani never fail to convey every emotion with so little, and I honestly think this is my favourite performance from both of them so far. They made their characters feel incredibly real, allowing me to understand their fears, flaws, and growth without needing dramatic speeches or over-the-top scenes. Their chemistry felt effortless, but what really stood out was how naturally they embodied these two people and made me root for them from beginning to end. I only wish a couple of storylines had been explored a little further, but that didn't take away from how much I enjoyed the journey. By the final episode, saying goodbye to these characters was much harder than I expected, and that's always the sign of a drama that truly did something right.

Low-key masochist/sadist, high-key chemistry.

There are dramas that you feel are too short, but you also saw enough to be satisfied, And then there are dramas like this one - when it's too short and you need to see more. Sure, they did best they could with the limited time they had, but this plot and dynamic deserve more.

Cannot believe we are finally slowly getting Korean BLs with proper plots and new settings. Was the case extremely simple and predictable? Yes. But it’s better this way. There is nothing worse than a complex story forced into a short format - it never delivers. Smart productions know their limits and try to present the best version of what’s possible. BLs are a sub-genre of romance and you do not watch romance for the plot, you watch it for the relationship and the chemistry. Of course having an interesting plot is always a good thing which separates mediocre romance from great romance, but the plot is not the core of the project. So yeah, I am not mad about how simple the story was here. It worked and that’s what matters.

To the more important aspect - the relationship between Lee Chae Ha and Ju Tae Seon. Would I want to swim in the sea of angst delivered by the set up a little bit more, before we move on to mutual positive feelings? Yes. Pinning, angst, contradicting feelings a character has that make them frustrated to the core - I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I just love when characters are so sure of what they are feeling and what drives their actions, to then get all confused when love hits them in the face. But I also understand, yet again, that there was a limited time to show the progression from enemies to lovers and for good balance, you just cannot focus too much on just one phase of that dynamic.

The angry angst era was iconic, the confusion and suppressed care was iconic, the desperate love was iconic. These two truly worked well together. I actually like how cliche they felt - Lee Chae Ha had no backbone for most of the drama and Ju Tae Seon was borderline psycho. If you ask me they are low-key masochists and sadists and that’s how I view their dynamics. Sometimes the aggressive beginnings in dramas make me feel uncomfortable, but here it just worked, because I did feel like Lee Chae Ha was into it.

On that note, the office scene. If you saw the drama you know exactly what scene I am talking about. Hot damn. Masterpiece. Thank you.

For the villains. One, the glorious O Ja Hyeon is presented as one from the beginning and more are hiding in the shadows, but are also rather obvious by episode 2. For O Ja Hyeon - loved to hate her. That one scene where she spilled all the tea was amazing. What a performance from Seo Han Gyeol. She stole that moment completely. I kind of wished she had even more presence in the drama. The other two villains were… fine? I think they missed an opportunity for a plot twist here, and went with the safer option.

Performances were mostly good. There were a few more intense scenes where I was not completely convinced by Park Si Woo’s performance. The issue could yet again be the length of the show. Sometimes both the characters and viewers should sit on the emotions a little bit longer, but pressed for time, the drama had to move on with the dialogues a bit too quickly.

I liked the production and the soundtrack. I like how the lighting and the music matched the intensity of some scenes. I always appreciate the good use of light and shadows. Also, go listen to Marionette, it’s a great song!
I am not going to talk about the intro - I just kept skipping it.

Overall, a pleasant surprise. It was a lot better than what I expected in all areas - plot, dynamics, acting, production.

A Hidden Gem of a Drama that Brings Excitement and Fulfillment

Key to The Phoenix Heart is a drama that is captivating from the beginning to the end. It is full of twists and turns, complex characters, intruiging schemes, and romance and chemistry that runs deep into the soul. I absolutely loved how fast-paced this drama is. This might be the first general/wartime historical C-drama I have finished and fully enjoyed.

Storyline/Plot:
I love how the plot twists were added. I love how viewers have to be a little confused and come up with theories before the truth is revealed. I almost forgot how it feels to analyze characters and their actions because dramas nowadays have become so predictable. With that being said, nothing felt 'out of character' at all; I thought this drama did a great job keeping viewers on their toes while still allowing characters to be realistic to their own values—whether good, bad, or in-between.

The romance aspect of KTTPH was portrayed IMMENSELY WELL, given the situation of Ai Mi being a minor during filming and the age gap. It is known that many people were concerned, especially since it is an intense wartime setting where light/sweet romance doesn't match. However, I felt like this drama still showed the sorrows and perseverance of true love without crossing any boundaries extremely well. Their chemistry was obvious without the need for "intimacy."

Acting/Cast:
I have been a fan of Hou Minghao for years now, and he has always impressed me with every drama he takes part in. I felt like HMH was able to display his full acting range and talent through Xiao Wuyi... being a general definitely suits him. I have nothing but praise for him! I have seen Ai Mi in various dramas, but of course, this is my girl's first lead drama! She did so so so well!! I really think Xie Jiayu can only be played by Ai Mi, as she is a young, ambitious, and brave girl. I look forward to her future works. I know she will make it big.

I also want to note how Riley did a great job as well! He has had multiple projects with HMH, but he definitely had the biggest role here. He did so well (even though I definitelyyy got angry at Li Mao many times). And finally, a big appreciation to the rest of the cast as well. Everyone did an amazing job with their roles, and I felt like everyone was casted very well.

Cinematography and OSTs/BGMs:
The cinematography coupled with HMH's acting and agility made the horse-riding and fighting scenes so, so good. The crew had a vision, and HMH played it perfectly. KTTPH probably has one of the best fight scenes I've seen; I wish we got to see even more. My favorite scenes were the horse-riding blindfolded scene in EP10 and the final battle scene. Additionally, the OSTs were amazing as always; I can always trust HMH to make OSTs for his dramas!

Overall:
Beautiful drama that deserves its flowers and more. I hope Hou Minghao and Ai Mi can feel proud of their work in KTTPH. I know they both worked so hard for this and had to push through the stigma. KTTPH truly deserves a higher rating; please please please give it a try. Don't hesitate; I promise you, it will be worth it!!

Plot and Story Progressing Done Right!!!

To be honest, I wasn't a fan of Nakun's acting when I started the first episode. However, it was only for a couple of minutes at the start of the episode; as the story progressed, my opinion completely changed. His acting is great. The biggest highlight for me was the plot and the directing. Sometimes, all a series needs is a strong story and good direction to make it truly enjoyable. I don't mean to downplay the actors' performances—they all did a great job as well. One thing I did notice was that the second couple's chemistry felt inconsistent throughout the series. In some episodes, they had amazing chemistry, while in others it felt like something was missing. Maybe that was an intentional choice, but I wasn't entirely sure. Overall, I really enjoyed this series, and kudos to everyone who took part in creating it.

it was good!

This drama turned out to be a delightful viewing experience. One of the things I enjoyed about the show is the fact that it has a little bit of everything. In addition to amusing elements, there are also some touching scenes and nostalgic scenes, giving the drama a distinct character. Of course, I adored the overall aesthetics of the work because of its unique atmosphere.

There are a few elements in the show that didn't seem to be quite fitting there. At times, I wasn't able to figure out the reason for some scenes inclusion in the show because they weren't fully connected with the rest of the story.

To conclude, I find The Scarecrow an entertaining work. Perhaps, it isn't perfect, but still, it has many good qualities to make it a worthy viewing experience.

e obviamente ele não conseguiu, por mais q ele tenha tentado...

todos eles só queriam viver como crianças comuns que tem uma mãe, que podem sair pra rua, que vão pra escola, que tem amigos, que tem hobbies, que podem gritar quando brincam...
sabe coisas tão básicas e banais mas que são tão importantes se vc for reparar

pessoas adultas sabe
o suposto pai da yuki sabia
os funcionários da loja sabiam
a dona da casa sabia (descobriu na vdd)

Honestly Deserves an 8.5+!!!

I've watched up to episode 4, and I genuinely recommend it. Every scene is visually stunning. The color grading and overall tone are gorgeous. But what impressed me the most is the directing and editing. The camera angles, facial expressions, and timing are handled so well that every emotion lands naturally without feeling overdone.

One of my favorite scenes is when Lu Shu unconsciously leans in and catches Shen Xiao's scent, which she finds comforting. It's such a simple moment, yet the cinematography makes it feel incredibly intimate and memorable. Another favorite is when Li Shu deliberately bumps Shen Xiao, causing his neck to narrowly avoid the sword aimed by An Le. The camera work and editing make the whole scene so tense without relying on exaggerated drama.

The pacing is just right, too. Up to episode 4, nothing feels messy or unnecessarily dragged out. The drama does a great job of directing each scene and building the atmosphere.

Honestly, I still don't understand why this drama only has a 7.9 rating. If it stays this consistent until the end, I truly think it deserves at least an 8.5+.

When I started watching this drama, I immediately realized how right I was to stick to my rule of waiting until a show is fully completed before binge-watching it. Otherwise, waiting week to week between episodes would have been absolute torture.

Despite sparking some debate over historical accuracy, "The Perfect Crown" shines as an utterly charming and visually stunning drama. The casting could not have been more spot-on. From the main lead couple to the secretaries and villains, every single actor was a complete hit. And what can I say about the young king? He completely stole my heart. So young yet such an incredible actor, I felt every single one of his tears.

The heart of the series lies in the extraordinary chemistry between its lead actors. Byeon Woo-seok delivers a genuinely sublime performance. His character is remarkably intelligent, brave, and talented; yet his strong will and desires are always shaped by his devotion to the king, whom he adores and fiercely protects. Despite the interference of royal relatives, traumatic events from his past, and his noble tendency to put others' happiness and well-being before his own, he is truly admirable.

Meanwhile, IU brings her signature grace and irresistible charm to the screen. I absolutely loved seeing a strong, intelligent, and fearless female lead who refuses to be intimidated by anyone or anything. Although she constantly puts on a strong, invincible front, it is merely armor. Beneath it lies a woman fighting against injustice, prejudice, and overwhelming social and family pressure, all while deeply longing for love and the approval of her father. Together, they create an effortlessly compelling on-screen couple that keeps you completely hooked on their story.

Beyond the romance, the production quality is a spectacular visual feast. The traditional Korean outfits (hanbok) are crafted with breathtaking detail and elegance, beautifully complementing the picturesque, atmospheric palace landscapes that frame every scene. Visually, the show serves as a loving homage to Korea's rich cultural aesthetic.

Supported by a solid ensemble cast, from the royal family, the secretaries and the Prime Minister to the devoted servants, that elevates the narrative at every turn, "The Perfect Crown" manages to rise above minor criticisms to deliver a memorable, deeply moving experience for lovers of historical dramas.
