Moonlight (2025) is a very good romance miniseries with Qian Zhe (as Ji Ling Chuan) and Wang Yi Yang (as An Xin) in the leading couple's roles. The cast did a good job bringing their characters to life and the leading couple had very good rapport and a good romantic chemistry. The relationship in the leading man's household are phenomenal and he has a strong demeanor with a warm and protective nature. The leading lady is also a strong character even though she had some family difficulties; she had a warm nature with firm determination. Overall, this is an enjoyable and entertaining drama!

Back Handed But So Deliciously Entertaining!

Deliciously back-handed and sinister is the best way to describe this series. And I loved it. It is the ultimate ‘soap-opera’ that sings to you majestically. It is three love stories each more vapid than the other. Yet compelling watching. This is a very messy and chaotic series that at times is exacerbating to watch. It slips so much into the standard soap-opera mindset of how characters are supposed to act and behavior. At times, one just wants to shake the protagonists and say what is wrong with you. You fell for this before; why are you falling for this again? But it is exactly why we watch these series. It brought a charm and wit that was sharp and crisp for a change. And surprisingly adult-like in solutions. Do not look for any real plot to the story. It just goes from one conflict to another with the superficial love storylines in between. Every one of these characters is flawed and to some degree unlikeable. There is jealousy, obsession, emotional blackmail, messy desires, dishonesty, mistrust, and a lot of pain. The emotional pain components are done well, which gives these characters heart and a relatability factor. So, in a sense, we find them compelling to watch even if they are not the most moral or ethical standard-bearers of the day. They become intriguing. Thus, the series is astonishingly entertaining and certainly keeps one’s interest throughout.

O potencial era tanto...

Não esperava isto... DE TODO!!!

Depois de uma ligeira pausa (com depressão à mistura), voltei ao universo dos dramas baseados em webtoon. Este, eu li. E bem, tenho a dizer-vos: não sei onde foi o “baseado” aqui, eles simplesmente pegaram num detalhe da história e deitaram fogo ao resto! Em nada se assemelha ao webtoon (tirando, lá está, um detalhe) e foram várias as vezes em que tive de fazer uma pausa para respirar ou então ia atirar o comando ao ecrã. Não aconselho a ver depois de ler.
O cast, na minha opinião, não foi o melhor. Notava-se que não havia química entre os casais (há pelo menos 3, um deles entrelaçado com o principal) e algumas cenas foram TÃÃÃÃO awkward, não estavam nada à vontade com a cena. Apesar disso, tinha algumas caras conhecidas: Kim Jisuk e Hwang Bora (Destined with You), Tae Inho (May I Help You), Kim Kidoo (No Gain No Love), Um Hyosub (All of Us are Dead) e, uma aparição muito cómica de Lee Jaewook.

Props!: para Seo Jihye, a atuação dela foi o que me fez continuar a ver até ao final.
Curiosidade: com este, já vamos no 10º drama do ano, apenas 16 restantes para atingir a meta que estabeleci a mim mesma.

During my first 4 episode, i was impressed by how wang ruichang delivered his role🤭i also like dudu acting here—she was that one i was looking for. She's so strong by how she turned over her fate by becoming a frail young girl to a strong badass woman🤝🏻and now im waiting for the next ep which is ep 10 I'm pretty sure she's gonna lead the army very well. and i cant wait for her general attiree😗im pretty sure she's gonna nail it.

But i have a problem with the storyline, i just can't keep up with it😭or maybe i was just the problem lol but overall i liked it very muchh. I hope they produce cdramas like this more often❤️‍🩹

Watch It Yourself and Interpret Your Own Ending

Watch it yourself and interpret the ending before reading too many reviews. I genuinely think Butterfly Lover is one of those dramas where your experience depends on how you personally view the final moments.

At its core, this is a feel-good historical romance with enough plot and mystery to keep things moving without becoming overly complicated. The story revolves around a mysterious butterfly curse that turns people violent, but despite the supernatural premise, the drama remains very character-driven. The focus is always on the relationships, the search for a cure, and the lengths people are willing to go for the ones they love.

What I loved most was the main couple. They are already married when the story begins, which immediately gives their relationship a different dynamic from most historical dramas. Instead of spending half the drama getting together, we get to watch an established couple navigate hardships side by side. Their relationship feels warm, affectionate, and mature. There is a natural domestic intimacy between them that makes even the simplest interactions enjoyable to watch.

Ling Chang Feng is honestly one of the biggest green flags I've seen in a historical drama. He is loyal, protective, and completely devoted to his wife. Whether it means defying authority, risking his life, or even taking on her suffering himself, he always puts her first. His actions never feel controlling; they come from genuine love and care. Some of my favorite scenes were the quiet domestic moments where he simply looked after her or worried about her wellbeing.

Tang Qian Yue is equally easy to love. She is gentle but never weak, and she repeatedly makes difficult choices for the people she loves. The sacrifices she is willing to make, especially later in the story, show just how much strength exists beneath her soft exterior. Together, the couple feels like true partners who face every challenge side by side.

The second couple was also charming. The cold general and kind-hearted princess had a classic dynamic that worked surprisingly well. I only wish they had received more screen time because their relationship had plenty of potential.

Visually, this drama is beautiful. The cinematography, costumes, lighting, special effects, and soundtrack all work together to create a dreamlike atmosphere. The attention to detail is impressive, and I especially appreciated the recurring symbolic imagery throughout the series. Even small visual choices felt deliberate and meaningful.

For a short drama, the production quality is excellent. Nothing feels cheap or rushed. There are no unnecessary misunderstandings, dragged-out love triangles, or frustrating filler episodes. The pacing remains tight, and every episode moves the story forward while still allowing the characters room to breathe and develop.

I also appreciated how the drama balanced sweetness with darker themes. The butterfly curse creates genuine tension, but the story never loses sight of its emotional core. It remains a romance first and foremost, and that is where it shines brightest.

As for the ending, this is where opinions differ. Some viewers consider it an open ending because the larger issue surrounding the butterfly curse is not completely resolved. Personally, I never even considered it an open ending until I started reading reviews afterward. For me, the emotional journey of the main couple reaches a satisfying conclusion, and that is what mattered most. The fate of the curse may remain open to interpretation, but the fate of the couple felt complete and hopeful.

I read on reddit that the producer viewed the ending as sad while the director viewed it as happy. I chose to side with the director. More importantly, I think the drama intentionally leaves room for viewers to decide for themselves.

Overall, Butterfly Lover is a beautiful romance about love, devotion, sacrifice, and partnership. It is short, emotionally satisfying, visually stunning, and filled with characters worth rooting for. Most importantly, it gives us one of the healthiest married couples in historical drama. For me, it is absolutely a happy ending and a drama I would gladly revisit again just to experience their journey one more time.

*DAE-BAC*

I started watching and DAE-BAC I was genuinely impressed by the storytelling. The actors delivered phenomenal performances, bringing their characters to life in a very convincing way. Especially Jin ki Joo was spectacular. What stood out most was how the series explored every stage of the education system while presenting both sides of the story fairly, highlighting the mistakes and shortcomings of all parties involved. It also sends a powerful message about the importance of proper law enforcement and how adhering to rules can help build a stronger educational environment.
I ended up finishing the entire series in one sitting because it was that engaging. Highly recommended give it a try!

Life in the most raw form

This drama by far is the best thing I've watched in a while, I was attached to the story and to my screen not wanting to skip a second of it.
It felt like reading a very good novel, you could easily be immersed in it and easily relate to the characters, You like each one of them yet you dislike them all simply because they are humans just like us and you'll definitely find a moment that it'll like it's exactly written for you.
The first two episodes were fine but then came episode 3 and boom it was majestic, Hwang Jin Man the moment you find out who he is was my first awaking in this drama, then each story and each line continued to touch the deepest spot in my soul, I would find myself just tearing up randomly.
It is raw and touching, it's life with all it's struggles from family to work to friendship to ambitions till you go to love and peace.
It was amazing watching this from a directors lens when it's talking about directors and writers and there work environment, it shows you how much the director is important in a work for it to be great.

Simply... Excellent

It's unfortunate we couldn't implement such a thing in the real world. If student's had adults they could trust and were reliable how different would our school days be.

It isn't an exact copy and paste of the webtoon but it does a good job of taking what's necessary and leaving out whats excessive. It is as incredibly satisfying to see watch this as it was to read the webtoon.
There are people who will watch this and think some of it is exaggerated but I can assure you this happens in many parts of the world. There are corrupt schools, politicians even people in ministry of education can and are often corrupt. I recall in my school days whenever we were informed of someone is coming for a inspection the entire school would flip on its head, principal would roll out red carpets, bathrooms were suddenly spotless, the smoking spots were deserted, no one was found fighting its funny looking back at it.

Reminded of school days that I regret, people I still resent and a time I wish I could go back to and change, the drama will very much invoke those emotions out of you. It's not as great as the glorys and the king of pigs say in that aspect but it does enough.

The acting is great they picked perfect people for the roles especially the main character and "minister" of ERPB fit their actors pretty well. The female lead/actress is hilarious.

The action as expected is great, and there's plenty of it.

I have no qualms I can point out with the drama so far, great work!

Worth the risk of watching ghosts if you hate horror like me :)

Another dark magic romance that was worth it! I have always loved this genre as much as I hate horror but the chemistry and world are worth it.

The story is pretty good. There are unexpected twists in the drama, but nothing too much to blow your mind. There are jumpscares but you know it coming so it's fine. As for the story itself, I think as a novel, it's way better than the series. So many lines and paragraphs become just a scene where you miss out a lot of details because you are focused on the characters. I personally liked the ending, maybe because that decreases the scare and fear of the ghost. Lowkey grateful; plus points for that 😭 Honestly, I really liked the ghost, maybe even more than the main leads I'll say 😂 She was a more complex and emotional than the lead characters. When it comes to Paran, with all due respect, I hated him a lot because of the way he kept going hot and cold with Khem. Like come on man! What the hell? But this love story was definitely the kind that you know it's blaring red flags, but you still want them together because 'basically' he isn't all bad; just bad at expressing and all🙄 I was as frustrated on myself as I was on Paran. Khemjira simply put is a good human with a wretched fate. Nothing more honestly. But their love story didn't feel anything more than just love at first sight, a crush. The next memorable character is Jet. I LOVED HIM! Seriously! His character is the most genuine and solid of all. And though Charn logic pissed me off from time to time, I liked him too. This pair had a good love story that made more sense. Grandma Si and Khem's mother were also favourites of mine. Thong and Ake were adorable characters too.

The cast was real good. Especially the two lead pairs. Khem and Paran were so well played by Namping and Keng! Both there acting skills are amazing. Though I'd say, they could cry better. They did not have it to be emotional enough. But the biggest plus point? KengNamping is one of the best pairings out there, period. Because all they have to do is look at each other and you are already swooning 😭 That is the main reason why, even if Paran was giving mixed signals and unintentionally hurting Khem, I couldn't let go of my desire to see them together. They just make sense together. The kind that makes your heart smile and relax when they're together and clench and sink when they aren't. If this chemistry is just onscreen, I must say, they deserve a standing ovation for that. Then comes FirstOne as Jet. This might be the best actor of the lot. Every emotion, every nuance, you see it written all over his face. He makes you feel exactly the same as him. Especially the scenes where he was spying his ship, I actually felt I was with my bestie giggling over a random couple. Loved his acting 🥹 And of course Tle as Charn did a very good job, portraying the stable character who was the typical nerd and a calm anchor. Again, this pair goes soooo well! I just cannot 😭 Love to see them together. Even if they're chemistry isn't as overwhelming as the main leads, they have a strong bond. Green as Rampeung was a very good choice. She's so gorgeous but also an amazing actress. I sympathized soo many times; yes, I sympathized with a ghost ✋️ Also loved other casts like Noknoi Uraiporn as Grandma Si, Om Manita as Khem's mother and Udon and Ryuji as Thong and Ake.

Music was great! The intro Phap Man? Damn! That was one insane! Awesome song. Aof Surapol, you're voice is amazing! I really really loved it! The traditional elements of the song are so beautiful. Feels home and makes me want to do classsical dance!

The drama did feel a bit out of concept at times though. Suddenly the shift was towards the romance alone in between and you wonder where Rampeung is while these people have the audacity to think of love in between 😂 It was really slow and painful to see misunderstandings grow. Too slow. Then I had a big doubt. The ghost says this would be her last kill and she would be satisfied after that. So I wondered why this time? Won't he reincarnate again? Why stop now? Don't you mind the soul of you 'enemy' freely living next lifetime? I also did not understand why the monk waited all along? I mean, all that 'she had to understand, he had to lose power, he had to give up' thing...didn't get the logic. Yah, there are plot holes.

Overall, this series is a good Thai drama. It has it all - good genre, acting and cast and one of the best chemistries out there. But the story could have been more complex and deep. I'll rewatch it again someday. Worth watching. Grateful I put my fear of ghosts aside to finally watch it!

Serie con molti difetti: perché piace allora?

Ci sono serie che si ricordano per la scrittura brillante, altre per la regia, altre ancora per le interpretazioni. Doctor Slump non appartiene completamente a nessuna di queste categorie. Eppure, una volta terminata, mi ha lasciato una sensazione sorprendentemente piacevole e non mi ha mai annoiata. Non è stato un capolavoro, né un’opera tra le migliori degli ultimi anni, ma una compagnia gradita, con i personaggi che finiscono per trovare un posto nella memoria dello spettatore.

La sinossi è abusata: due ex studenti modello, un tempo rivali, si ritrovano nel momento peggiore della loro vita. Yeo Jeong-woo è un chirurgo plastico di successo la cui carriera viene improvvisamente distrutta da uno scandalo. Nam Ha-neul è un’anestesista brillante che, dopo anni passati a vivere esclusivamente per il lavoro e lo studio, sacrificando ogni aspetto della propria esistenza, precipita in una profonda depressione e in una condizione di burnout che le impedisce di proseguire la propria professione.

Sulla carta, il materiale era promettente, una sorta di "lato positivo" con altre patologie : due protagonisti adulti, entrambi sofferenti, entrambi costretti a ridefinire la propria identità dopo aver costruito tutta la propria esistenza attorno al successo riprendendo il tema caro ai coreani: la funzione sociale nella nostra società dà un'identità. Una buona occasione per raccontare la salute mentale, il fallimento, la pressione sociale e la ricerca di una nuova normalità.

Il problema è che la serie affronta depressione, ansia, burnout e traumi professionali, ma lo fa senza scendere in profondità e senza presentare i problemi con la dovuta delicatezza e correttezza medica (abuso di alcol nel corso delle terapie farmacologiche, farmaci presentati come panacea, poco peso dato alla terapia psicoterapica... ). È come se avesse paura di diventare troppo dolorosa, troppo scomoda, troppo realistica. Ogni volta che si avvicina a qualcosa di realmente destabilizzante, tende ad alleggerire il tono, a riportare il racconto verso territori più rassicuranti.
Non è necessariamente un difetto. Dipende da ciò che si cerca ma sulla correttezza delle procedure mediche e sugli escamotage poteva esserci più rispetto, realismo, verità. Lo dico da professionista che vede il proprio lavoro affossato da stereotipi e ignoranza, la serie non restituisce dignità o veridicità a quello che è il lavoro dei professionisti della salute mentale, e l'escamotage dell'eparina è quanto di più scemo possa essere proposto, perché le sacche non si trovano nei pressi della sala operatoria e non puoi stabilire quale userai ma vabbè. Inoltre l'autopsia la rinviene del corpo ed è assurda la pista che il medico volesse assassinare la paziente , con una sostanza rinvenibile tra l'altro. Nell'aula processo inoltre chiunque poteva accedere così, come fosse casa propria e portare le prove.
La scrittura non è brillante: ci sono due buchi di trama che mi hanno dato la sensazione di un'improvvisazione, sia sul colpevole dell'incidente sia sulla figura ambivalente del loro collega. Come se la scrittura fosse a due mani o realizzata in fieri, non predisposta a monte.

Non la consiglio a chi desidera un’analisi profonda della depressione, probabilmente resterà insoddisfatto. Chi invece cerca un drama capace di trasmettere conforto e speranza potrebbe trovarsi perfettamente a proprio agio.

Il cuore della serie, infatti, non è la salute mentale, è un healing romance drama ma con mezzi di fortuna e fortunate coincidenze, che investe più sul potere dell'amore, del rispecchiamento, del mutuo aiuto distraendosi dalla propria condizione, più che sulla cura in sé.

Nella relazione tra i due protagonisti Doctor Slump trova finalmente il proprio equilibrio. La storia d’amore funziona perché occupa spazio. Tanto spazio. Forse quello, tra i tanti visti, che ne hanno di più. Negli ultimi anni molti drama hanno finito per sacrificare la coppia in favore di sottotrame, antagonisti, conflitti familiari o misteri narrativi. Qui accade il contrario. La serie dedica una quantità enorme di tempo ai due protagonisti. Li osserva mentre parlano, mangiano insieme, passeggiano, si sostengono, litigano e si riavvicinano e la genitorialità è positiva, calda, supportiva, non becera e malevola come nel 90% dei lavori visti.
Non c’è la sensazione che la relazione debba superare continuamente ostacoli artificiali per mantenere viva l’attenzione dello spettatore.

Una delle qualità più apprezzabili della scrittura è proprio l’assenza di quei malintesi interminabili che spesso infestano il genere. Jeong-woo e Ha-neul comunicano. Non sempre bene, non sempre nel momento giusto, ma comunicano e lei non è la donnucola in balia dell'uomo di turno: sbaglia, cade, si rialza, comunica, cerca, parla, si apre, è estroversa, espansiva con lui, e questo è un elemento di novità apprezzabile.

Quando iniziano a provare qualcosa l’uno per l’altra, la serie non passa sei episodi a procrastinare che accada.
Quando emerge un problema, cercano di affrontarlo. Quando uno dei due soffre, l’altro è presente. Può sembrare poco ma nel panorama delle commedie romantiche coreane è quasi rivoluzionario.

Park Hyung-sik e Park Shin-hye svolgono un lavoro efficace nel rendere credibile questa dinamica. Non credo che le loro interpretazioni rappresentino il punto più alto delle rispettive carriere. Nessuno dei due offre una performance destinata a entrare nella storia, anzi, lei molto caricaturale a volte, stessa cosa la madre che conosco come ottima attrice in tanti altri lavori. Non sempre mi è arrivata, non sempre ho pensato: "wow che brava", a volte ho pensato "spinge troppo, si vede che recita". Tuttavia il più delle volte FL e ML risultano naturali insieme.
La loro chimica non si basa soltanto sull’attrazione (non vi aspettate exploit passionali alla business proposal), funziona soprattutto nelle scene quotidiane, nei dialoghi apparentemente insignificanti, negli scambi più semplici, nel modo comodo che hanno di stare insieme e che trasmettono allo spettatore. Qui ho avuto chiarissimi i motivi per cui si scelgono, e per cui sin da principio si piacevano.
Ho motivo di credere che queste due persone potrebbero davvero scegliersi nella vita reale.
Ed è probabilmente questo il motivo per cui il drama continua a coinvolgere anche quando la trama perde mordente, perché la parte più debole della serie è proprio quella che dovrebbe costituire il grande conflitto narrativo. L’arco dedicato a Kyung-min, infatti, rappresenta il principale problema!
L’idea di base non era cattiva. Il suo rancore affonda le radici in un trauma reale, legato alla morte del padre e a responsabilità indirette della famiglia di Jeong-woo. Il tema del dolore trasformato in ossessione avrebbe dotuto generare un antagonista complesso e sfaccettato. Invece il personaggio oscilla continuamente tra ambivalenza psicologica e forzatura narrativa e soprattutto non è chiaro perché debba prendersela con lui e non con la famiglia, il protagonista non è un uomo amato o con una famiglia calda e supportiva alle spalle, che potrebbe rimanere distrutta dalla sua rovina, anzi ... sicché avrei trovato più plausibile che si accanisse con la madre stessa, utilizzando semmai il protagonista per arrivarvi.

La serie sembra voler integrare la parte romance, la parte di cura e quella thriller/ crime senza riuscirci del tutto, emerge una certa dissonanza e i coreani questo lo fanno sempre, non ho ancora capito perché. Integrare bene due parti così diverse, studiarle e svilupparle in modo adeguato comporta un lavoro e un accordo tra professionalità diverse (l'ideale sarebbe impiegare due registi e almeno due sceneggiatori, più qualcuno che supervisioni per dare una stessa struttura, una stessa firma, uno stesso tono) . Non è una cosa semplice e devo dire che viene difficile anche ai grandi registi , immaginiamo a chi fa lavori destinati al grande pubblico, non di settore.
Persino il famoso incidente che coinvolge Ha-neul negli episodi finali, pur generando tensione emotiva, appare come un artificio necessario a spingere ulteriormente la coppia verso una dichiarazione definitiva.
Da quel momento in poi la storia smette sostanzialmente di interessarsi al mistero e torna a concentrarsi su ciò che sa fare meglio: raccontare la guarigione reciproca dei protagonisti.

Ed è qui che la serie ritrova la propria forza, sebbene in versione miracolista, fantasiosa, per nulla realistica, non è una forza spettacolare, bensì gentile.

La serie racconta qualcosa che il genere romantico spesso dimentica: innamorarsi non risolve tutti i problemi, e qui c'è il realismo. Ha-neul continua a convivere con le proprie fragilità, Jeong-woo continua a portare addosso le ferite lasciate dal crollo della sua carriera, nessuno dei due viene magicamente salvato dall’amore e nessuno sacrifica se stesso per quello. L’amore diventa piuttosto uno spazio sicuro all’interno del quale affrontare le proprie difficoltà. Anche il finale segue questa filosofia.

Molti drama coreani costruiscono l’ultimo episodio come una lunga corsa verso il matrimonio. Doctor Slump sceglie una strada diversa. Quando Ha-neul riceve l’opportunità di trascorrere un periodo all’estero, la serie introduce una situazione che, in un racconto più convenzionale, avrebbe facilmente generato una separazione dolorosa. Invece il conflitto viene affrontato con sorprendente maturità. Jeong-woo soffre all’idea della distanza ma riconosce il valore professionale dell’occasione e la incoraggia a seguirla.

È un momento piccolo ma significativo, perché dimostra quanto la relazione sia SANA. Successivamente l’opportunità sfuma e la partenza non avviene realmente, scelta narrativa che alcuni potrebbero considerare troppo comoda, ma che si inserisce perfettamente nel tono generale della serie.

Anche il matrimonio viene trattato in modo particolare. Molti spettatori si aspettavano una grande cerimonia conclusiva. In realtà Doctor Slump preferisce suggerire piuttosto che mostrare. Le immagini prematrimoniali e matrimoniali presenti nell’epilogo confermano il destino della coppia senza trasformarlo nel centro assoluto del racconto.

Una decisione che ha diviso il pubblico, non mi è piaciuta ma ’ho trovata coerente perché la vera conclusione della storia non è il matrimonio ma la guarigione.

È il momento in cui due persone che avevano costruito tutta la propria identità sul successo professionale comprendono finalmente di poter esistere anche al di fuori dei propri risultati.

Doctor Slump non è un capolavoro:
1)La scrittura è discontinua.
2) L’antagonista convince solo a metà.
3) Le interpretazioni non sono memorabili
4) Le sottotrame non sempre mantengono le promesse iniziali.
5) Alcuni temi vengono affrontati in modo più superficiale di quanto meritassero e senza attendibilità o realismo medico.

Eppure, pur con tutti i suoi difetti, sa essere piacevole.

Non cerca continuamente di sorprendere. Non punta sempre sul colpo di scena. Non vive di triangoli amorosi esasperati. Non costruisce conflitti infiniti basati sull’incomunicabilità.

Semplicemente osserva due persone ferite che imparano a stare meglio, grazie alla loro relazione.

Difficile ma possibile.

Vorrei sottoporvi una riflessione, Doctor Slump ha ricevuto molte critiche e mi ha sorpreso. Non perché le critiche siano prive di fondamento: il drama ha quei limiti evidenti che ho esposto poc'anzi. Quello che mi lascia perplessa è il metro di giudizio utilizzato!

Leggendo recensioni da anni, su moltissimi lavori, ho avuto l'impressione che questo drama sia stato valutato con una severità che raramente vedo applicata ad altri titoli molto più fragili dal punto di vista della scrittura. Mi chiedo quindi cosa il pubblico si aspettasse realmente da questa serie e perché i suoi difetti vengano evidenziati con tanta insistenza, mentre lavori che presentano problemi ben più gravi vengono accolti con un entusiasmo quasi unanime.

Prendiamo ad esempio alcuni dei titoli più celebrati degli ultimi anni. Ho visto assegnare voti altissimi a opere come Lovely Runner, che personalmente considero trainata molto più dal coinvolgimento emotivo del fandom e dalla ship attribuita agli attori che da una sceneggiatura particolarmente solida, dove il tema della disabilità è stato solo accennato. Oppure a produzioni recenti come The Potato Lab o When the Phone Rings, che a mio avviso presentano debolezze narrative non inferiori a quelle di Doctor Slump.

La differenza è che Doctor Slump sembra pagare il fatto di voler parlare di qualcosa. Magari non sempre ci riesce, magari lo fa in modo semplificato ma prova ad affrontare il burnout, la depressione, il fallimento professionale, la perdita dell'identità costruita attorno al successo e il percorso necessario per ricostruirsi.
C'è una volontà di raccontare un'esperienza umana e di sviluppare un discorso che vada oltre la semplice storia d'amore.

Molti drama romantici contemporanei, invece, rinunciano completamente a proporre un contenuto. Si limitano a costruire una relazione accattivante, una buona dose di fan service e qualche colpo di scena emotivo, qualche primo piano di lui sotto la doccia , 20 scene fan service, inquadrature studiate per mostrare baci più spinti di quanti non siano in verità. MA BASTA! Non c'è nulla di male per carità ma fatico a comprendere perché opere di questo tipo vengano celebrate come capolavori mentre un lavoro come Doctor Slump venga giudicato con criteri molto più rigidi.

Per questo motivo il mio voto finale è leggermente più alto di quello che assegnerei normalmente.

Onestamente Doctor Slump è un 7/10. Tuttavia scelgo di attribuirgli un 7,5/10.

Lo faccio perché apprezzo il tentativo di raccontare qualcosa di diverso, perché la storia evita molti artifici narrativi ormai abusati nel genere e perché non sente il bisogno di alimentare continuamente conflitti inutili, incomprensioni costruite a tavolino o separazioni forzate soltanto per allungare la trama.

Non è un drama memorabile. Non è un capolavoro. Ma è più onesto e più coraggioso di quanto una parte della critica sembri riconoscergli. E in un panorama in cui vedo assegnare voti perfetti a opere che spesso vivono soltanto dell'entusiasmo del fandom, questo per me merita almeno mezzo punto in più.
Alla fine della visione non resta l’impressione di aver assistito a una grande storia destinata a entrare nella storia del genere. Resta qualcosa di più modesto ma anche più autentico: la sensazione di aver trascorso del tempo con personaggi che, pur imperfetti, hanno trovato un modo per essere felici.
E forse è proprio questo il motivo per cui, pur riconoscendone tutti i limiti, Doctor Slump riesce a lasciare un ricordo sorprendentemente affettuoso.

8 Episodes In, and I'm Completely Hooked

I came back to write this review after watching 8 episodes, and honestly, I am completely hooked. From the very first few episodes, the story managed to grab my attention, but after reaching episode 8, I can confidently say that this series is far better than I initially expected.

What surprised me most was the way the plot develops. Every episode reveals something new and keeps the audience curious about what will happen next. There are emotional moments, romantic scenes, and enough twists to keep things exciting without feeling forced. The pacing feels smooth, and I never found myself wanting to skip any scenes.

After scrolling through the review section, I noticed quite a few 1-star ratings, and I genuinely don't understand how some people can judge this show after watching only one episode. Many great dramas take time to build their characters and storylines. Giving up after a single episode doesn't really allow the series to show what it has to offer.

The female lead deserves special praise. She delivers an excellent performance and brings a lot of emotion and personality to her character. Her acting feels natural, and she makes every scene engaging. The male lead is also great, but what really stands out is the chemistry between the two leads. Their interactions are interesting, exciting, and believable, making the romantic storyline one of the strongest parts of the show.

The production quality, emotional depth, and character development have all impressed me so far. If the remaining episodes maintain this level of storytelling, this could easily become one of my favorite series of the year.

For anyone who dropped the show after one episode or is hesitating because of some negative reviews, I would recommend giving it a fair chance. Watch at least a few episodes before making a judgment. Sometimes the best stories take a little time to unfold, and Ashes to Crown is proving to be one of them.

A watered down version of the manhwa

I believe we all kinda expected that, it's not as smutty nor explicit as the manhwa (for a good reason) it only focuses on the dramatic side of the story and completely ignores the other parts, specially the parts the manhwa is famous for xD

Somehow it's not worse nor better, I believe it's more adaptable like that, i don't like that they dropped big chunks of the manhwa and even changed some parts but it's a short vertical drama so that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

I think acting is ok-ish, they still relies on camera angles and lips touching - in a smutty manhwa adaptation, mind you - which got me scratching my head while watching, i know it's tuned down but at least have some decent kisses lol.

Judging as a drama only, I wouldn't really recommend it, I've seen much better vertically filmed shows and this simply doesn't have the spark! But judging as an adaptation, if you like the OG and want to see a glimpse of the story as a live action, go for it, it's more "family friendly" and less traumatizing show!!

Sin Seo Ri completely ruins it for me

I’m just venting. But…

I really had high hopes for My Royal Nemesis.

Since I’ve enjoyed both Destined with You and Perfect Crown and I was very eager to watch MRN next. For several reasons. Firstly, I was excited that Heo Nam Joon, after trying to make a name for himself, mostly doing cameos and supporting roles, finally got a chance to become a male lead in a supposedly high profile kdrama. Secondly, I was interested in another plotline with Royals and thirdly, I was craving another captivating story about past life connection.

So it’s not surprising that My Royal Nemesis was by far one of my most anticipated kdramas of 2026. Based solely on the story description and trailer. With such a strong set up and currently my favorite underdog actor what could go wrong?

Well, it turns out, A LOT.
Female lead sinks this krama from the start.

Sin Seo Ri is just awful. To me, she’s an unlikeable and off putting character. I have no intention to root for her at all and she’s the female lead? Why? What’s the point of wasting such an interesting story concept on her?

There is nothing remotely dignified or royal coded about her behavior. To me, she feels more like a parody of a character she supposed to play. But it isn’t intentional. To me everything about Sin Seo Ri comes across as exaggerated and theatrical. She often resembles a caricature that completely ruins the show for me. Frankly, I don’t see her as someone worth falling for. So I don’t care what happens to her. I partly blame Im Ji Yeon for this disaster, but I also feel like a better and more experienced director would keep her from going off the rails with her acting choices.

I just wanted a fun and engaging love story but what I got instead is extremely repetitive, corny tropes and basic jokes that just don’t land. I struggled a lot with finishing each of the episodes I managed to complete and I won’t continue it.

I feel bad for Heo Nam Joon. He deserved better than this mess.
