Amazing Actors, Full of Passion

I came to watch after watching Something in the Rain and One Spring Night. I read some reviews mentioning this drama and boy did it not disappoint. I have added this to my long list of rewatch value.
I had not watched any dramas with Yoo Ah In and now I am here for him. Hoping to see more of him in the future because WOW what tremendous acting he brought. We have some mediocre ones, and some okay ones. But he was top notch in this drama. Also became a fan of Kim Hee Ae and looking to watch some of her dramas as well.
The story was so believable, there was no hesitation in their acting, the chemistry was there, the passion was there and you can tell they both really surrendered to their roles. I was glad to see that the end was fair and they did not give up on their love. I am all for true love and fighting for eachother. The husband was a prick and glad that relationship came to and end. Recommend this watch!!

Corny, Melodramatic, and Cliche

Take every sad plot point and character background you have ever seen in a drama. With every plot point, assume the screenwriter is doing this solely to make a tearjerker. Predict how said plot point could be a tearjerker. 99% chance you got it right. Even the music score felt rehashed.

The whole thing also stinks as if something fishy went down with the production of it. As if in order to make it palatable to a wider audience they clipped out every perceptible gay romance scene or the actors refused that aspect of the storyline so it was omitted. In turn, it meant we ended up with this incomprehensible bromance. Seriously, whatever they are is never explored. Once. Just a couple of best buddies for life, apparently.

The only saving grace was the acting. They did a great job with the dreary script they were presented with. Maybe they have some better projects you could spend your time on? But do not waste precious hours with this.

They promised a lot and delivered nothing.

First of all, I want to make it clear that I haven't finished the series; I dropped it at the tenth episode and I don't intend to go back.
The story introduces us to the protagonist everyone already knows, abandoned by her parents and therefore arrogant and unwilling to let others walk all over her, etc., etc. And the ML, who is yet another misunderstood potential heir we've seen thousands of times in Korean royal sibling plots. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. The trailer shows us a wonderful concept of political intrigue involving so many people that we wouldn't even remember half of their names. But up to episode 10, the most they manage to deliver is a botched, unsuccessful assassination attempt? Is that your kind of good drama?
Honestly, I expected more from a blockbuster production. It's a caricatured romance that conveys no emotion whatsoever. Aside from the intrigues that would only work exclusively in the Korean world, the citizens' criticism of the monarchy and the protagonists makes absolutely no sense, such as: "Let's draw up a marriage contract with benefits," man? People have been doing this since the beginning of society, they just don't have a contract and it's the families of the bride and groom who benefit, and technically the "signing of the contract" is done by the bride and groom who sign the marriage certificate. Seriously! What a huge problem, huh, Ms. Korea, what an enormous problem.

An Ode to Visual Storytelling

This was a very beautiful drama, the characters and all the relationships were explored in a realistic way.
We got to see different characters at different stages of their lives, the successful director who doubts his success, the greedy for talent and money producer, the writer who hasn't gotten his break yet still longs for it, the young producer with an eye for good stories and unresolved childhood trauma ..... The drama does a good job of showing us that they are all trying. Every character is trying at something, because that's the essence of life- trying and the stories we make along the way.

We really are all trying here, that's the only way to live. To keep trying to be better at being and doing as a human being.

Well written

I was able to watch and finish this when Viki had it available for free during a promotional. ;P

For comparisons sake, I'd say this drama is a mix of Knight Flower and 100 Days My Prince.

-Solid characters, entertaining twists and heartfelt moments. Overall, I enjoyed this drama's plot and characters. The pacing was decent, only noticed it being a teeny bit dragged in the third act(i just tire of heart to hearts very quickly haha #toomuchyapping). A few more action seens certainly wouldn't have hurt, but that's about it really as far as my complaints go.
- I appreciate the fact that unnecessary self sacrifices were not permitted at the end(that drives me crazy lol) P.S. It's a happy ending, but more realistic/logical than fairytale ending, which personally, I appreciate.
To note: there is a bit of the "they met as children" trope, but it's not a major issue, more of a fun fact at the end on how these two's paths first connected. -because there is a major fantasy/supernatural element to the plot.- this gives an explaination as to the "why them".

Disappointed

Legend of the Female General is a competent wuxia drama that does a great job utilizing the cross dressing trope.

The FL of this story is a resilient and tenacious juggernaut who really does an amazing job of holding this drama together.

Zhou Ye was a phenomenal casting choice who brought an arresting androgynous vibe to her role as a man and subtle but unyielding femininity as a woman. I can't think of anyone taking her place. She along with Bai Shu were definitely my favorite to watch on screen. I don't care how rotten his role may be, Bai Shu can do no wrong.

I really liked all of the cast, most of the characters were distinct and memorable. I really cared for everyone, even the side characters.

All of the technical aspects were mostly on point. The music was great, both the sung tracks and the bg ost did a lot to add to the ambiance.

I LOVED the costumes, I don't know much about historical accuracy, but everything fit so well and looked good! There were multiple times that I paused to look at the way a sleeve fell, or the crisp layers of a collar… I can tell that the costumes were made to fit each main actor pretty well.

Though I wasn't always a fan of the cinematography, I did quite enjoy the martial arts choreography. The way that moves would be executed and filmed were absolutely amazing! There were so many cool moments that I found myself replaying over and over. I don't think I've liked fight choreography this much since I watched Blood of Youth.

Okay so the plot…

This show is good (just good) for the first 20ish episodes. Things start going downhill fast after that. Once we reach that point the pacing gets thrown off even more and moves at a breakneck speed just so it can tie things up.

The beginning tested the limits of my suspension of disbelief, but it was still fun and engaging. There were multiple points of tension that had the potential to pay off in a satisfactory way. Once we get to the parts that should relieve our tension and resolve our expectations, they're dealt with in the most nonchalant way.

This show hinges basically on one villain who looms over every evil happening like a curse. If something bad happened then it's his fault, and even if it wasn't his fault he still has something to do with it and benefited from it. I felt that this conflict was boring and predictable at times. Characters blame him so often that he might as well be the devil… Yet the show resolves his tension point before the final episodes and instead decided to add another villain to raise the stakes.

Because of this switch we have multiple stupid things happen because multiple characters lose their brains.

I think that the 40 episode limit is one of the worst things to happen to costume dramas, the length limits have some people speed running the story. I imagine that if this show had 50-60 episodes then we could have dedicated more time to seeing how our FL became who she was and invested more time into her struggle to survive and excel. We don't know about her connections to anyone other than a quick catch up at the START of the show.

At the start of the show they had flashbacks to her younger years that tried to give you more backstory but they are abruptly dropped after only a handful of episodes. It was frustrating to basically watch the show blind with no investment in her past struggles and connections.

It's not a deal breaker but I never felt that this show was a real political drama, the one note villains and the ease with which everything is resolved is baffling. Everything felt a little shallow, the conflict, the social commentary, and even the comedy at times.

I genuinely started laughing when they started speed running the entire point of My Dearest's drama during the Rundu arc. That drama had 21 1+ hour episodes and STILL couldn't fully get its message across but this show attempts the same in 3 30 min episodes. 😭

The romance was a good slow burn that did a lot of lifting to keep me engaged. Zhou Ye and Cheng Lei are true talents who build up their love in a steady and satisfying way… Until the end.

I would recommend this, and I do see myself watching this show again. Still not LLTG, I need someone to save me.

As long as love exists, the memories will remain sweet and everlasting

What moved me the most was probably this part…

At the end of Episode 8, what Lee Jae-ha says to Da-eum when he confesses his feelings can be understood on so many levels. The dialogue was absolutely incredible:

“Whenever I’m with you, I keep forgetting so many things.
You were sick, yet I couldn’t even tell.
Even though there wasn’t much time left, I kept believing there was still time.
I like you, but I thought I shouldn’t.
I thought love was just an illusion… but I know this feeling is real.”

Da-eum’s father says that the worse Da-eum feels physically, the brighter she smiles.

Namkoong Min delivers a kind of performance in this drama that I’ve never seen from him before. While watching, I kept wondering, “Is this acting, or is this simply his real self showing through?” Even now, I can’t quite explain it. His portrayal feels understated and quiet, just like how the people around Lee Jae-ha describe him — someone who rarely shows much expression, doesn’t talk much, and often lets his actions speak for him. Yet those who have worked with him for a long time know how warm-hearted he truly is.

Although Da-eum is terminally ill, the drama rarely focuses on showing her looking weak or exhausted. Instead, she keeps smiling brightly and faces life with positivity.

In the real world, do people like Da-eum truly exist?
Can someone who knows their life is nearing its end really live so fully in the present moment?

I’m grateful to have come across such a wonderful drama. And I’m grateful for Namkoong Min’s healing presence, both inside and outside the drama — appearing exactly when I needed something emotionally reliable to hold onto.

Our Movie pays extraordinary attention to small details. It feels less like a typical TV series and more like a film unfolding over several episodes. The first time I watched it, I was so focused on the plot that I missed many of the subtle moments between the two leads. But during my second viewing, I slowly began to appreciate the delicacy of the storytelling — the gradual process of two people growing closer, understanding one another, learning to empathize, and eventually falling in love.

Da-eum, knowing she has little time left, holds nothing back when experiencing the first profound love of her life. Jae-ha, meanwhile, constantly restrains himself because of the conflict between his morals and his emotions. In the end, he finally realizes that this is a kind of love he has never experienced before — this is what love truly is.

Even the movie Jae-ha is directing within the drama gradually changes alongside the development of their relationship, until its ending becomes the complete opposite of what it originally was meant to be:

“Life is finite. Eventually, everyone must say goodbye to the people they love and who love them. But as long as love exists, the memories we leave behind will remain sweet and everlasting.”

Mankoong Min is such a heartthrob

I really love this lighthearted romantic comedy, especially since the genre is a rare choice among Namkoong Min's usual high-profile K-dramas.

Female lead Hwang Jung-eum’s performance is right on par with his. The first 17 episodes are incredibly funny and lovely; the leads share a romantic dynamic that only actors of their caliber could pull off, creating an irresistible charm that completely captivates the audience. Because of their incredible chemistry, I easily overlooked the minor flaws and loose writing in the script.

I highly recommend this drama to people
(1) who wants to simply watch a rom com to release stress, or
(2) who wants to simply enjoy on-screen chemistry of the leads, or
(3) who simply loves Namkoong Min's smiles and charisma.

THE BEST SECRET CRUSH DRAMA EVER!

I'm impressed with this one.

*Astory that is too good to be true...but somehow I believe it could be true.*

Soft, fluffy romance drama.

Does seem a bit cliche but yet manages to surprise you. And I think I loved that the most.
The cinematography of this drama was just too beautiful. The angles were on point.

The whole things is just tooo cute and magical.

I love the detailing they put into some of the scenes in the drama and the little ideas of their school days which made it more special.

I MUST MENTION, the dialogues were so deep and meaningful in the drama that I started taking notes of them.

Also, the story is not just about the main couple. There's side couples also.
Like some of the other dramas, you would just want to know about main couple and the side couples feel like filler or it can sometimes be likewise.
BUTTT...BUTTT.....YOU ARE MY FATEFUL LOVE is just different and it stands to it's title.
Every other story in the drama keeps you hooked and makes you fall in love with them.

The set, I mean the house in which Ruan Yu live and the one Xu Huaisong lived were top notch and almost dreamy especially Ruan Yu's.

And last secondly, ost.
Especially the one sung by Baby J is my favorite ( i'm Baby J's big fan)

Lastly, the ending was sweet.
A Happy ending.
I liked it anyway but much more because Xu Huaisong and Ruan Yu just recreated their journey and I believe that was very thoughtful and creative of the director.

Cheers to the lovestories of,
Xu Huaisong X Ruan Yu
Liu Mao X Shen Mingying
Xu Huaishi X Zhao Yi

(Additionally, a heads up, some episodes maybe in the middle.. like around 15 ish can be boring. But i
I'd say you'll enjoy it in the later parts.)

A solid 9/10.

Storia banale e troppo standard

simply irresistible

Loved it! It's such a funny, sweet, and kind drama. I ADORE the ML he's so kind, honest and caring to everyone in his orbit. His sincerity and good heart ground the drama and add warmth to all the characters' interactions. I also liked the FL a lot and liked her journey. The townspeople were another favourite of mine and a humorous blend
This drama has some conversations that are really touching, and so many quirky little moments that delighted me into laughter. All I ask for in my rom-coms is lovely leads, heartfelt moments, and goofy humor, and this drama tackles those ingredients with pizzazz.

A mediocre CH3 plot saved by the phenomenal LenaMiu

My Safe Zone is a story about childhood best friends Lin and Jane, who were separated when Lin went to New York for college. Lin, whose fiancé cheated on her just before they were to be married, has returned to Thailand, reuniting with Jane.

Let's get the bad parts out of the way first. It’s a typical CH3 plot, too many subplots squeezed into 8 episodes. It’s a show that should have been destined for mediocrity.

My Safe Zone should have been a boring, girl-kissing, cash-grab, except it stars Lena and Miu. These ladies are first-rate actresses who could hold their own in any production. Working together, they are magical; their chemistry is top-tier, and the director, Patchanee Charuchinda “U”, had the good sense to let them run with it. U is also directing PLs.Love, LenaMiu’s next series, so I have high hopes.

LenaMiu serves up tender moments, and navigating the hurdles in their relationship feels believable. I tear up for sad and happy moments in this series every time I watch it, and I have rewatched it several times. I find it to be one of the stories I turn to when real life is a downer and I need an uncomplicated emotional lift.

My Safe Zone is a mediocre story that becomes excellent thanks to great acting, directing, and phenomenal chemistry. If you enjoy a simple feel-good romance, this show will probably be in your rewatch list-it's certainly in mine.
