Fun series with an ensemble cast

I found this to be a fun romantic comedy about a family of a mother and 5 daughters (plus 1 adoptive daughter) working to find husbands for all of the young women. The series spends 5 or so episodes centered on each of the daughters in turn and does a great job of giving them a different plot-line in finding their 'perfect match'.

I found the first few episodes enjoyable but a bit hard to follow. Part of the issue is that there are a lot of main characters to introduce and considering half of them are the Li family and thus couldn't be rolled out over time, the first few episodes throw a lot at you. But then it settles into a good pace of finding a husband for each of the unmarried daughters.

The series does a great job of keeping the stories interesting as the match making for each daughter is different and presents its own set of challenges for the rotating set of protagonists to solve. It also does a good job of keeping the entire family relevant throughout the series. Even after a particular daughter finds her match, she continually returns into the story to assist the next in line in solving the challenges that arise.

Overall, a fun series that excels at mixing light comedy, suspense and action into an enjoyable watch.

Love, Betrayal, and Approximately Seventeen Lifetimes of Suffering

Review
(WARNING: Potential Spoilers — I'm Not Saving You from Any Emotional Damage)
When I first started Ashes of Love, I knew it was going to take a little while to get going because there is a LOT of world-building that needs to happen before this story can really take off. We're talking immortal realms, different deities, complicated family relationships, hidden identities, mythology, rules, and enough titles to make you need a spreadsheet just to keep track of who everyone is to everyone else.

And yes, it starts slow.

But here's the thing: it isn't boring.

Even while the drama is taking its sweet time establishing the world and explaining exactly what kind of mess everyone has gotten themselves into, I was still interested enough to keep watching because there was always something underneath the surface that made me want to know where it was going.

Jin Mi is probably one of the biggest reasons for that. Because of the Unfeeling Pill, she genuinely doesn't understand romantic emotions the way everyone around her does, which makes her interactions with the other characters both funny and incredibly frustrating at times. She can be completely oblivious to things that seem painfully obvious to everyone watching, but that's also the point of her character. She's not simply pretending not to understand love; she literally doesn't understand it.

And then there is the fact that for a good portion of the beginning, people actually think Jin Mi is a man.

That alone creates some pretty entertaining situations, especially once you realize how differently everyone is interpreting her relationships with Xu Feng and the people around her. But once the truth comes out and everyone finally realizes Jin Mi is, in fact, a woman, things start getting a little more interesting.

Still, for me, the drama doesn't truly kick into another gear until the wedding.

That's when I went from “Okay, I'm enjoying this” to “Ohhhh, NOW we're getting somewhere.”

From that point forward, the story becomes one long chain of trials, betrayals, revelations, emotional destruction, and characters slowly becoming either better versions of themselves or significantly worse ones. There is a constant sense that every decision somebody makes is going to come back around eventually, and watching those consequences unfold is one of the strongest parts of the drama.

What I really enjoyed was watching the characters grow throughout all of this. Nobody walks away from these experiences exactly the same person they were when they started, and that applies to both the good and the bad characters. Some grow because they learn from what they've been through, while others allow their pain, jealousy, or ambition to consume them.

And that's really what Ashes of Love feels like at its core: a story about people being put through one trial after another and seeing what those trials eventually turn them into.

The romance obviously sits right in the middle of all of this, but it isn't the only thing holding the story together. The relationships between parents and children, siblings, immortals, enemies, friends, and people who probably should have stayed far away from each other all add another layer to the story.

There are plenty of moments where I wanted to yell at the screen because someone could have prevented an entire catastrophe simply by opening their mouth and telling the truth, but apparently communication is forbidden across all immortal realms.

Because of course it is.

The production itself also holds up really well. You can see why this drama became such a recognizable xianxia title, particularly in the way it builds its different realms and creates that larger-than-life fantasy world. It has that classic xianxia feeling where everybody is beautiful, everybody has a tragic backstory, everybody has some kind of divine title, and absolutely nobody is allowed to simply live happily ever after without first suffering through approximately seventeen lifetimes of emotional trauma.

By the time I reached the end, I had been through so many trials and tribulations with these characters that I understood exactly why people have such strong feelings about this drama.

Is it one of my favorite xianxia dramas?

No.

But that doesn't mean I don't think it's good, because I absolutely do.

It's one of those dramas that I can appreciate for what it brings to the genre, even if it doesn't quite land in my personal top tier. There is enough story, enough character development, enough mythology, and enough emotional chaos that I can absolutely see myself coming back to it when I'm in the mood for a classic xianxia binge.

My brain: “Okay, I think I finally understand everybody's relationships.”

My emotions: “You absolutely do not.”

My snacks: Somehow survived 63 episodes. Miracles do happen.

In the end, I finished Ashes of Love feeling like I'd just completed an extremely long emotional obstacle course through several immortal realms.

And honestly?

It was worth the trip.

Your Mind will be blown!!

This is so interesting thriller. Not clicked next episode faster. Each epiosde will brings so many new twists and turns. In the starting, the bond frormed between the Professor and Lee Kang was starting to form the eventually it took a suprising turn. The professor was a vile human being a...ole to his wife, she was so kind and genuinely in love with him but he never respected and loved her. He was living in delusion and still obsessed with his first love and that writer.
Le Kang was no saint either and when he disclosed why he did what he did it did not seem fitted to me. The revenge was not fit for that reason, it shoul have been something big of a reason to destro someone"s life. Yes, I can agree to the fact that the professor was so selfish that he cold not see other people's pain and was not trying also. he was so so bad to hhis wife.
All in all this was a thriller with correct pacing and good storyline. The acting was brilliant.

Payback was served hot.

Payback follows Sun, a young man whose life is destroyed by a tragedy involving his family. Years later, he discovers that the people responsible are still living their lives as if nothing happened. One of them, in particular, has become a successful actor. So Sun decides to enter the entertainment industry himself, with one goal in mind: revenge.
And this is where things get interesting.
The entertainment industry isn't exactly presented as a glamorous dreamland. Behind the cameras, fame and money are mixed with manipulation, debts, power games and people who are perfectly willing to use each other to get what they want. Sun enters this world carrying years of anger and guilt, and watching him slowly navigate it while trying to figure out who he can actually trust was one of my favorite parts of the drama.

The revenge plot kept me curious throughout. There are secrets being uncovered, old connections resurfacing, and characters whose motivations aren't always immediately obvious. I especially liked that Sun's revenge isn't simply about finding one villain and destroying him. The further he gets into the mess, the more complicated everything becomes.

But, let's be honest about one thing: Jay / Arthur.
He's intimidating, confident, calculating and very much aware of the power he holds. He doesn't come across as the stereotypical sweet BL love interest who exists solely to support the protagonist. Jay has his own agenda, his own wounds and his own reasons for getting involved with Sun. There's always a sense that he knows more than he's saying, which makes his interactions with Sun particularly fun to watch.
And then we have Sun and Jay together.
The chemistry between Min Thanakorn and Toptap Jarukit is absolutely insane.
I'm not talking about the kind of chemistry where two actors simply look good standing next to each other. These two have that dangerous kind of chemistry where even a completely normal conversation feels like it could turn into something else at any moment.
The looks.
The tension.
The way they stand around each other.
The little changes in expression.
Everything works.
There is a constant push and pull between Sun and Jay that makes their scenes impossible to ignore. Even when they're not being openly romantic, there is this underlying tension that makes you wonder what they're thinking and, more importantly, what they're going to do next.
And when the drama actually decides to turn up the heat... Oh.
Their intimate scenes work because they don't feel disconnected from the rest of their relationship. The attraction is there, but so are the power struggles, uncertainty and emotional vulnerability. Jay can be incredibly dominant and intimidating one moment and unexpectedly gentle the next, while Sun isn't simply sitting around waiting to be rescued. Their dynamic constantly shifts, which makes it much more interesting to watch.

What I also appreciated is that the romance doesn't completely swallow the revenge storyline. There is still a plot happening around them. Sun's personal mission remains important, and Jay's involvement isn't simply an excuse to create romantic scenes. Their relationship becomes part of the larger story rather than replacing it.

If I had to mention a weakness, I'd say that the revenge plot occasionally feels like it has to hurry toward its next major development.

Overall, Payback was a very pleasant surprise for me. It manages to combine revenge, crime, showbiz politics, romance and emotional drama without losing sight of what makes the central relationship so addictive.
But let's not pretend I'm going to be completely objective here.
The revenge plot got me interested. Sun and Jay's chemistry made me stay.

Wrong FL

As a fan of the horror/thriller genre, I found this movie pretty basic. The FL is supposed to be a strong, smart and brave character, but I don't think the actress was the best fit for the role. Her facial expressions and voice delivery often felt unconvincing, which made some scenes less effective. On the other hand, the actor playing the villain did a much better job and fit the role well. I think the casting would have worked better if the leads had been chosen based more on acting ability and suitability for the roles rather than popularity. *Btw the bichi girl should've died first. Why movie makers still use those type of characters in 2026?! No more after 부산행! It's getting annoying"

The Truth behind the Ghosts

This drama gives me the feel of Master's Sun. Both FLs can see ghosts and somehow the ghosts are asking for help, for closure. The difference lies on the MLs.

I like that they paired Park Eun Bin and Yang Se Jong. They are both cute and seem have a good rapport with one another. Se Jong seems to be in his element. Him being introverted may be good for the role of a prosecutor. As Prosecutor Ma, he showed a range of emotions from fearful of ghost, astute when it comes to law, crying his eyes for Yeori in many situations and being joyful and in love. Whereas Eun Bin had already proven in many of her dramas how versatile she is. She had shown a strong leader of her company, not letting others to put her down and able to surpass the odds with the help of Prosecutor Ma.

Here are what I like about it:
1. The directors chose the right actors for the leads. The BTS I see in YouTube showed so much of their chemistry and how much fun they have even off cam.
2. The pacing of the story is not boring, gives us many plot twists which surprises us in the next episode.
3. The outfits of Cheon Yeo Ri are just lovely. This is just right for her status as an owner of a hotel.
4. The ghosts are not so scary like that in Master's Sun. Each ghost needs justice and/or closure for them to get to the next life.
5. Some of the locations, specially that in Jeju captures a bit of its beauty. It is good that they also get to go to Singapore.
6. Cheon Yeo Ri's grandma not that too strict or controlling.
7. The supporting actors played vital roles to bring flavor in the intrigues, the problem solving and even in romance side.

As the drama is entitled Spooky in Love, it seems the ghosts stopped appearing as soon as Prosecutor Ma and Yeori stopped holding bare hands. I don't mind that the ghosts stopped appearing for a long period of time, in the end we see a closure the closure with Yeori and her freedom from the "curse".

Am glad there are not much other subplots in the story. And the last two episodes gave clarity to the motive of Min-Hwan. Ong Seo Woo showed the transformation of Min-Hwan at the latter part of the series. We can see that he was able to convey different emotions from being caring to Yeori, being jealous, being mad and greedy, to being murderous and then to being remorseful. That is a lot of emotions.

Thank you for giving us a happy ending - revealing the truth, uniting the leads and of justice. I hope we can see Eun Bin and SeJeong as leads in future romcoms. Love this pair.

Too many 10 star reviews

People giving this stupid and boring show 10 stars is completely insane
People just see pretty people and instantly act like its a good drama

Boring characters, pretty cringe acting especially from TXW - that stupid "I am so soft" voice is annoying
Super fake attitude and oblivious arrogance isnt helping either

I wish i could get my three hours back

TRUST the process

I'm trying to write this with 0 spoilers. If you don't understand business or fear that this will be boring because of it you're missing out. The first 20 minutes were slightly boring for me but you have to TRUST the process. It's a cliche "body swap" genre between an old CEO who swaps bodies with a young football player. The CEO uses his knowledge to save the company, leaving the others shocked at how clever a young guy without a school for business can be. As for the conflicts they're beyond crazy in here. It has all of it. Drama, Action, Comedy, Psychological Thriller even. From acting to scenery to details and music, it was all perfection. The only thing you might hate at first is the "Romance". In my opinion it's not even romance. A girl will have a crush on someone whose identity she doesn't know. (I sadly can't say more without spoiling). But it's all stopped before it gets weird. Hands down one of the best dramas i've seen in a long time.

Dream To You Is A Dreamy Romance For Us

It’s been awhile since I found a pure romance and boy does “Dream to You” delivers (at least through the first 8 episodes). It’s a “First Love Reuinted” story (not a spoiler since it announces it such from the opening), where our two leads find their way back to one other becuase of a shared dream.

But to get them ready to declare themselves and go all-in, we have to get through some past traumas along with new challenges that come up professionally and personally; the kind of challenges that seek only to make them stronger and more resolved in their feelings toward one another.

This is a modern romance that is less plot driven and more a diary of sorts (altho there is plenty of plot to be had). It settles in like a good book, quiet and assured of itself, where each page opens us to a new memory, a new revelation, letting the past tell parts of the story the present can’t name.

This more relaxed pacing (not too slow) allows the narrative to breathe, offering quiet, contemplative moments without trying to cram itself with too many storylines or characters.

It has a dreamlike quality to it, which is fitting given the main theme about the sacrifices it takes to chase one’s dream and the reality that sets in for many when those dreams cannot be realized, or at least not in the way envisioned.

This seemed a very intimate project for the writer and director and a line in the movie “I’ll be a director that makes movies feel human” seems to sum up the filmmaker’s approach to how they want us to feel watching the story unfold.

Thus far, I’m giving it a 9. It’s not epic in adventure or storycraft - just a simple character-driven film that guides us gently down a well-trodden path, giving us time and space to unwind with it as it reveals its secrets.

Hwang In Youp and Lee Hye Ri give excellent performances as our two leads with superb support from the secondary cast.

Absolutely beautifully tragic

Overdo is one of those dramas which makes you go through every emotion . The start of the drama was a bit rough with odd editing choices but it got so much better . Especially the last 4 episodes were epic peak drama. Zhang Linghe gave everything in his role as Murong Qingyi . I think it’s his career show reel whete he showed all his emotions. All the other cast members are well cast and brilliant in their roles. Wang Churan as Susu is conflicted and always poised. Loved the chemistry . The ending left me in tears !
