A Romance comedy that doesn’t fade or lose vibrancy with time

Interestingly saw a lot of mixed reviews of the drama. To be honest I only watch this recently in yr 2026 as I trust Seven Tan acting skills but this show was before Go Ahead where she then has become widely famous internationally, so was thinking if I should attempt to watch.

Love her ability to portray and bring the female character alive and also able to deliver the sad moments (especially when she was being the scapegoat to the marriage to the villain). For male lead, no one that I would go for but fortunately his acting is not too shabby when carrying out the child like age characters in one of the storylines. Other than that seems like he is always in dead starring mode (maybe because it is only this way then he will look more firm and with autonomy). Overall, I would prefer this drama than the Sword and the Brocade though the digital effects especially under the water is unbearable to watch (can do they swim breast stroke with hands and legs moving at the same time… and not breathing under the water for so long).

Not a "dream life" at all.... too realistic

My viewing preferences keep me away from the “slice of life” dramas because they tend to be too realistic. Entertainment is what I want, not a living reminder of 3 decades in the corporate world.

This drama was a deep dive into the sociological and psychological complexities of one fifty-something old man named Mr. Kim. It was neither dreamy, nor light and unencumbered as the title suggests. The screenplay is well written, and Mr. Kim’s personality did not entice my sympathy. Instead, I felt compassion for his wife and son who stood in stark contrast to the ML.
To be honest, I was halfway through episode 10 but decided to finish watch ONLY to see how Mr. Kim’s wife and son fared after facing so many difficulties. IT WAS WORTH finishing! This story was much more to my liking for the resolution and outcome than for the long, difficult (sad and uncomfortable) life choices Mr. Kim made. He could be a study for several psychological complexes: Inferiority or Megalomania.

Although I recommend The Dream Life of Mr. Kim as a very good drama to watch, don’t be fooled by the title chosen. It could have been more accurately titled Mr. Kim's Megalomania.

Didn't expect much and got what i expected...

I didn't expect much from this and my expectations came true, this was just as horrible as Tide of love.
It had a lot of production faults like open/closed shirt ep. 1, switching positions leads at start ep. 2, police officers have plain shirt and with other angle shot they have labels on their shirts.
The sound effects were too excessive ad fake, like cutting his hand and you hear blood splashing...
The music did't make any sense.
The story was so bad and had way too many holes in it, and so many things that happened that were just too unbelievable and weird.
The only good things were the visuals and the acting of Kim Seong Hyuk, he is the only good actor of the 4 and i can't understand why he agreed to participate in such rubbish...
The kisses between Jung Myeong Cheol and Kim Hyeon Seo are the worst because Kim Hyeon Seo refuses to kiss and just keeps his lips still and shut tight.

Please save yourself some time and skip this one...

Algumas considerações

Contém spoilers e opiniões/dúvidas
Achei muito cativante, me fez ficar pensando portanto achei bom.
Tenho algumas questões que ficaram no ar, desde o começo algumas cenas dão a entender que o Zhen Xin já tinha interesse no Zhang Zhun antes, principalmente na cena pós crédito do primeiro episódio e na parte onde ele está selecionado o currículo. Ele escolher o Zhang Zhun, não me parece aleatório e no decorrer da série fica muito claro que ele lembrava muito bem de ter trabalhado com ele, e é claro que o que mais comprova isso é ele ter guardado aquele guarda chuva. Enfim não vi ninguém falando sobre isso e queria dar meus centavos a respeito.
No geral achei interessante e arrisco dizer que na parte sobre o filme, as vezes a linha entre terapeuta e paciente pode sim ficar borrada... Mas ali ficou mais que borrada... Enfim muito bom

Every character felt real

Story telling was the best I've seen. Every detail was carefully placed and accounted for. The pace was exceptional, it never dragged out a scene just to drag it out, the timing was perfect, and the background music was well chosen even if most of the music was not Korean, it was very effective to highlight this was a historically inspired melodramatic story with classical themes. The cast of actors brought out ALL that helped tell the story all the way to the end. But the end felt disoriented after so much perfection.
Yee Jin Goo a veteran actor did a spectacular job presenting his dual roles. Lee Se Young likewise drew a perfect picture of her character. Other roles from the Chief Secretary, Left State Minister & son, Queen Dowanger, Queens handmaid, Personal guard, and Eunuch Jo....I was sorry to say goodbye to them.

Começo intrigante, meio tedioso e final sem carisma

O drama inicia com um excelente potencial e uma premissa intrigante, mas perde o fôlego na metade final, tornando-se arrastado e monótono.
A estrutura da série pode ser dividida claramente em três fases distintas:

Primeira Fase: O casamento falso e a amnésia
Nesta etapa introdutória, a protagonista feminina perde a memória e é induzida a acreditar que está em um casamento real com o protagonista masculino. O roteiro equilibra bem o romance e a comédia, destacando o carisma da heroína: uma mulher gentil, inteligente e independente em seus negócios. Paralelamente, o protagonista a manipula para desestruturar seu maior rival militar, sem perceber que a própria esposa desmemoriada é a inimiga que ele procura.
Contudo, essa fase falha na construção do passado do casal. Embora abuse de flashbacks, a relação prévia deles permanece obscura e inconsistente. Falta clareza, principalmente, sobre as motivações reais que levaram a protagonista a tentar assassinar o herói antes de perder a memória.

Segunda Fase: A revelação e a incoerência de tom
O ritmo decai significativamente assim que a verdade vem à tona. Ao recuperar a memória e romper a farsa do casamento, a protagonista sofre uma mudança brusca de personalidade, deixando a dúvida de qual realmente é sua personalidade: Gentil e atenciosa ou malvada e dissimulada. O roteiro recorre a clichês desgastados, colocando o outrora imponente Duque em situações cômicas e bobas de perseguição amorosa, que minam sua dignidade e o realismo do cargo que ocupa.
Embora a protagonista se apresente agora como uma mulher sarcástica e impiedosa, sua ambição comercial é gradualmente deixada de lado para abrir caminho para um perdão precoce. Vale notar que, embora o casamento falso tenha sido uma grave traição, a culpa é mútua: ela tentou matá-lo no início da história. Esse ponto de equilíbrio moral — onde ambos erraram — acaba sendo mal explorado e resolvido de forma rasa.

Terceira Fase: A resolução apressada e a perda de identidade
O desfecho entrega uma reconciliação abrupta e um casamento sem qualquer transição orgânica do ódio ao amor, assemelhando-se a um corte seco e apressado no roteiro. A faceta empreendedora e genial da protagonista simplesmente desaparece, como se nunca tivesse existido, e ela retorna ao papel de mulher doce e passiva.
Essa regressão anula o desenvolvimento anterior da personagem. Antes, ela defendia sua autonomia, argumentando que a disparidade de poder e influência de um Duque inviabilizaria a união. Embora ele prometesse respeitar sua independência, o roteiro ignora esse conflito ideológico e resolve a trama de forma simplista, esvaziando o sentido da jornada dela.

Quanto ao subenredos de políticos e coadjuvantes subaproveitados: A construção do cenário de guerra e das conspirações na corte é extremamente superficial. Esses conflitos políticos servem apenas de pano de fundo genérico para um romance principal que já perdeu o brilho. Da mesma forma, o casal secundário é conduzido de maneira fracassada, sem química ou atrativo para o espectador.

Com uma escrita preguiçosa e mal estruturada, o drama falha em desenvolver seus três pilares: a guerra, as intrigas políticas e o romance. Nenhum desses elementos é explorado de forma convincente, e os personagens coadjuvantes funcionam apenas como meros recursos de roteiro para preencher o tempo de tela, sem apresentar qualquer crescimento ou relevância real para a história.

W stands for WASTE of potential

Such an legendary concept that touches upon a popular fictional character coming to the real-world, falling in love with his creator's daughter while they fight against pre-destined fate to avoid a multidimensional killer AND somehow it became a static, boring drama that dragged relentlessly.

I watched this drama twice and I was still confused. There were so many things that happened that were left unanswered. All the characters were also so one-dimensional. Yeah they were serving some serious face cards, especially the ML but they had nothing else going for them. They had no chemistry and honestly, the FL was very annoying.

Only watched for the second leads

It's criminal for the second lead couple to not only have the better chemistry and dynamic, but to have the better storyline compared to main leads is crazy work.

I can barely recall what happened to the main leads. They just couldn't compare. They were just so static, I had a hard time believing they like, let alone love each other. The classic reincarnated damsel, sacrificial FL x overpowered, cold ML trope who constantly has to save her helpless ass is also so overplayed.

The second leads however were just magnetic. We got the naive, energetic, adorable second FL x scary, dangerous second ML who's just so so soft for the one he loves. They were literally circling each other the entire drama and to discover they had their own hidden trauma with each other, IM SICKKK. I'm praying they reunite again as the main leads, it's what they deserve.

This is such a great drama—I love watching when the bad guys get what they deserve. I love genres where the main character beats everyone up and doesn’t get hurt at all (except for the last episode—I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DIE), because it’s fun.
I love men yearning.
The father had a daughter, but ended up with a son 😭
Episode 2 leaves me confused—how could such bad guys suddenly turn good? (Although if a gang with weapons was beaten up like that right in front of me, I’d be rethinking my own life too), but I love the long-haired guy.
At the end, the father was ready to beat the crap out of that jerk himself: “YOU LITTLE BASTARD, HE’S MY SON-IN-LAW!” 😭

Equals in Love, Equals in Power

I started Blossoms of Power because I kept seeing clips of He Yu as the Crown Prince all over my feed, and honestly, he was the reason I pressed play. I expected another enjoyable palace romance with political schemes, handsome princes, and a smart female lead. What I didn't expect was to become so invested in almost every major character. By the time I finished, I realized the drama wasn't just carried by its romance. It succeeded because it built a world where nearly every important character had a purpose, every relationship influenced the larger political story, and every victory came at a cost.

The story begins with Shen Xihe arriving in the capital under the emperor's order to choose one of the princes as her husband. Unknown to most people, she carries the memories and soul of Gu Qingzhi, whose previous life taught her that love is unreliable and survival comes first. She enters the capital determined to choose the prince who can best protect both herself and her family rather than the one she loves. At the same time, Crown Prince Xiao Huayong has only one wish left. Having lived for years under the shadow of an incurable poison, he wants to survive long enough to uncover who poisoned him and why. Then he meets Shen Xihe and immediately decides she is the woman he wants to spend whatever time he has left with.

Xiao Huayong quickly became one of my favorite male leads in recent historical dramas. We get so many cold, emotionally unavailable, overpowered male leads that it was refreshing to watch someone who was just as intelligent but completely open about his feelings. This man falls first, falls harder, and never tries to pretend otherwise. He shamelessly flirts with Shen Xihe every chance he gets, constantly looks for excuses to stay close to her, and has absolutely no pride when it comes to showing his affection. I especially loved his green tea behavior. The way he would deliberately use his fragile health to make Shen Xihe worry about him had me laughing so many times. Half the time I couldn't tell whether he was genuinely sick or simply being dramatic because he knew exactly how to get her attention. The funniest part is that he really was dying, which somehow made all his little schemes even more endearing.

At the same time, the drama never reduces him to comic relief. Behind the playful personality is someone carrying enormous responsibilities. Every day he lives knowing his time is running out, yet he never stops protecting the people around him or investigating the truth behind the poisoning. He Yu did an incredible job balancing both sides of the character. His comedic timing was fantastic, but his quieter emotional scenes were equally impressive. You could see the exhaustion, fear, and loneliness hiding beneath his smile without him ever needing long dramatic speeches.

Shen Xihe was equally impressive. She is one of those female leads who could easily feel overpowered on paper because she almost never loses her composure. She's calm, intelligent, observant, and constantly several steps ahead of everyone else. Normally that kind of character becomes frustrating because writers eventually make them act out of character just to create conflict. Thankfully, Blossoms of Power never does that. Shen Xihe never suddenly becomes careless for the sake of the plot. She never forgets her intelligence simply so someone else can rescue her. Every decision she makes feels consistent with the woman we've been watching since the beginning. Her victories feel earned because they come through patience, observation, and careful planning rather than convenient coincidences.

I also found myself relating to her more than I expected. Beneath her calm exterior is someone who struggles with love because of everything she experienced as Gu Qingzhi. Her emotional distance, her tendency to prioritize duty over personal happiness, and the way she keeps everyone at arm's length felt surprisingly real. Watching her slowly learn to trust Xiao Huayong became one of my favorite parts of the entire drama.

What makes the romance work so well is that neither lead overshadows the other. They're equals. Both are intelligent enough to survive on their own, both constantly outsmart their enemies, and neither becomes weaker after falling in love. Instead, they become a genuine power couple. Their relationship isn't built on constant rescues or endless misunderstandings. It's built on trust, mutual respect, and the quiet confidence that the other person is capable of handling whatever comes next. I also appreciated that the romance continued developing after they got married. Too many historical dramas treat marriage as the finish line, while Blossoms of Power treats it as the beginning of an even stronger partnership.

One thing I absolutely loved about Xiao Huayong is that he never loved Shen Xihe as someone who needed to be protected or controlled. He always treated her as his equal. He admired her intelligence instead of feeling threatened by it, respected her decisions even when they differed from his own, and trusted her abilities completely. What made me love him even more was how much he quietly prepared for her future. Knowing that his poison could take his life at any moment, he never focused only on spending whatever time he had left with her. Instead, he spent that time making sure she would be safe even after he was gone. Every political move he made, every alliance he built, and every sacrifice he accepted was also preparing a future where Shen Xihe and their child could live securely without depending on anyone else. He wasn't just trying to become worthy of her love. He was building a world where she could continue living safely even in his absence. I think that's one of the purest forms of love the drama portrays. He never asked her to become smaller for him, never tried to outshine her, and never viewed her strength as something that needed to be restrained. He simply stood beside her, supporting her as an equal while quietly carrying the burden of protecting the future they might never get to share together.

The palace politics remained engaging throughout the series. Every prince had his own ambitions, every alliance felt temporary, and every political victory created new problems. The story constantly kept me guessing without becoming unnecessarily complicated. It found a nice balance where the political intrigue remained interesting but never overshadowed the characters.

One thing I genuinely loved was how differently each prince approached love. Xiao Huayong's devotion is obvious from the very beginning. Xiao Changqing completely broke my heart because he truly loved Gu Qingzhi but could never let go of the past. His love wasn't fake or manipulative, but it became an obsession that ultimately destroyed him. Xiao Changying was probably my favorite after the Crown Prince. He wears his heart on his sleeve, loves fearlessly, and never hides his feelings even when he knows they won't be returned. Then there's Xiao Changyu, who quietly gave up power and status simply because the woman he loved mattered more than the throne. Even the Second Prince surprised me. I expected absolutely nothing from him, yet seeing him sacrifice himself for his wife genuinely caught me off guard. It's surprisingly rare to watch a palace drama where so many male characters genuinely love and respect the women beside them instead of treating marriage purely as political leverage.

The second couple completely stole my heart. Bu Shulin and Cui Jinbai deserved so much more screen time than they received. Before I even watched the drama, I saw pictures of Bu Shulin and honestly thought she was played by a male actor. After discovering she was actually portrayed by an actress, I was genuinely impressed because she completely sold the role. She was confident, fearless, unconventional, and one of the coolest characters in the entire drama. Cui Jinbai balanced her perfectly with his calm, patient, and dependable personality. Their relationship grew naturally through mutual respect instead of relying on unnecessary misunderstandings, and every scene between them was simply enjoyable. If anything, I wanted much more of their story.

The production quality was also excellent. The costumes were beautiful, the cinematography remained elegant throughout, and the soundtrack fit the atmosphere perfectly. The entire cast looked incredible on screen, and everyone delivered convincing performances. My only small production complaint would honestly be the cats. They became such an obvious plot device that every time one appeared, I immediately expected something important to happen. After a while, I almost started laughing because they would conveniently show up exactly when the story needed them.

The only major issue I had was the ending. For most of the final episodes, I had accepted Xiao Huayong's death. It was heartbreaking, but it fit the story, and I thought it was a brave decision. Then the drama suddenly revealed that he had survived all along. I don't mind happy endings, but this one left far too many unanswered questions. How was the poison cured after spending the entire drama telling us it was incurable? How did he fake his death? Where had he been all those years? Why did Shen Xihe already know? Did he eventually become emperor? The special episode answers some of those questions, and apparently the novel explains even more, but I wish the drama itself had taken the time to properly explain such an important twist instead of expecting viewers to fill in the blanks.

Even with those complaints, Blossoms of Power easily became one of my favorite historical dramas this year. I rarely feel the urge to rewatch a drama, but this is one I'll happily revisit. It isn't trying to reinvent palace dramas. Instead, it simply takes familiar ideas and executes them exceptionally well. It gives us two intelligent leads who remain equals until the very end, memorable supporting characters, engaging political intrigue, one of the most lovable green-flag male leads I've watched in years, and a romance built on trust instead of unnecessary drama.

If you enjoy palace politics, capable female leads, shamelessly devoted male leads, slow-burn romance, strong supporting characters, and couples who genuinely make each other stronger, then Blossoms of Power is absolutely worth your time.

Cute but preachy

This is one of those sweet fluff pieces, hate to love, rags to riches, bickering, quirky (in a good way) and just a whole lot of fun.... Youth, seaside, friendship if it is a good and lovely thing this drama probably has it.

The characters are sweet, fun smart in different ways (most of them). The female lead may be a princess but she is really smart, a fast learner and highly adaptable. She is also assertive and honestly besides a moment of what was she thinking I really liked her.

The male lead may be a slight punk in the beginning but lets face it the guy is supernatural god, hard working yes but supersmart and good at everything he does.

Most of the adults are pretty nice not making my blood boil at all, they feel a bit human mistakes and all But also had me wondering how much misfortune can a family endure and still make it out...

However the youth part drags out a bit to much, there are a lot of draggy and preachy parts, really really preachy part and I am not rally fan of the whole earning ones place in a relationship or having to wait to prooe the love is love...

But other than that its an okay watch with lots of sweet characters and okay kisses, you will have to wait for them forever but once they do kiss its magic.

I loved EVERY SINGLE THING about it. It’s so intense that my heart was pounding half the time. Honestly, I’d already kind of forgotten what the first one was like (at least because it was dubbed in my language and I just had it playing in the background), but I felt like I liked the second one even more. Aside from the cool guys beating up the bad guys and the others fucking killing everyone, I also got really emotionally invested. Every time the main characters cried, I was ready to cry right along with them, but I held back just because of my contact lenses.
Woojin and Gunwoo’s friendship is so precious—the “found family” trope really hits hard. They’re so smart and super cool; I love them so much 😭
And iPad Kid (MDL says his name is Alan, but I didn’t hear anyone call him by name, so who knows) broke through my wall of indifference toward antagonists, even though I wouldn’t exactly call him that bad? He was just running around after the guy with the tail and doing whatever he was told so he wouldn’t get stabbed.
Just to spite myself, I said I liked Taegeom, and then they killed him off in the very next episode 😔
I also have one complaint. Why are most of the bodyguards and these guys either dumb or—I just don’t get fights—AND WHY DOESN’T ALMOST ANYONE HAVE A WEAPON? I’m surprised that when they were catching Baekjeong (or however his name is spelled), the guy remembered he had a stun gun, and that asshole didn’t have time to kill everyone with that shitty scalpel.
Hints at a third season??
