Flawed People

A girl who'd been partially abandoned by her parents schemed to change her life, no matter the cost. Through underhanded methods, she usurped her favored sister's summons to the palace and plotted her way to power only to end in ruin. Given a miraculous chance at a do-over, she fought for a different outcome only to be thwarted at every turn by persistent fate.

The Good:
• Everyone was stunning on screen, especially Bai Lu, Zhang Ling He, Wang Xing Yue, and Zhou Jun Wei. I can't complain about a love square that was written so well. The writer didn't sloppily use the trope to gin up manufactured angst, but allowed the motivations and emotions to naturally manifest on screen. All of the MLs were admirable in their own way. And Bai Lu was ethereally beautiful (especially in Empress regalia), in addition to being brave, smart, and resilient.
• The writer respected the viewers' intelligence and rewarded us with characters who didn't make stupid decisions simply to move the plot along. The FL's actions and feelings were understandable, as she had lived all this before and had preconceived ideas of what had happened and what would happen.
• I appreciated thinking how differently the story ended just because of one person's choices. Each of the three MLs had very different outcomes because the FL fought fate and made choices that changed the trajectory of all their lives. Bad things still happened, and she couldn't "fix" everything, but the lives of people she touched positively made all the difference in the grand scheme of things and to them personally.

The Bad:
• This is just a tiny quibble, but I laughed out loud when the diagnosis for red Satanic eyes, drinking blood, and an uncontrollable murderous rage was... schizophrenia.
• I disliked Xie Wei's favoritism for a daughter over a son, and I despised the casual abuse for comedic effect. Disrespecting a child isn't funny.
• Due to reincarnation/time travel censorship, the drama began and ended in modern times, and the drama was presented as a story within a story. It was disruptive and unnecessary, but I've come to accept it in Chinese dramas. It's a small price to pay for an otherwise riveting story.

Current culture loves to talk about red flags. Both the ML and FL were schemers with agendas and waved red flags the size of Texas. If you want a sweet drama with perfect people, this isn't it. If you want an entertaining story with intelligent people who lived with personal darkness, you'll appreciate their journey.

Add an extra half star for Bai Lu's make-up, costuming, and attitude as the Empress.

Una partita a scacchi quasi perfetta

​Ci sono opere che si accontentano di intrattenere e altre che riescono a catturare lo spettatore dal primissimo minuto, mantenendo una tensione narrativa costante fino all'ultimo fotogramma dello special. Blossom of Power rientra senza dubbio in questa seconda categoria, distinguendosi all'interno di un panorama fin troppo saturo di storie di rinascita spesso gestite con superficialità.
​Il punto di forza iniziale risiede proprio nella chiarezza con cui viene affrontato il tropo della reincarnazione: non ci sono ambiguità o mezze misure. Sia Gu Qingzhi che la principessa Shen Xi He vanno incontro alla morte; è l'anima di Gu Qingzhi a prendere possesso del corpo di Shen Xi He, ereditandone e assimilandone i ricordi. Si crea così una continuità d'esistenza in cui la prima vive nella seconda, mantenendo una consapevolezza doppia che diventa la base ideale per far partire un'articolata partita a scacchi politica.

​L'architettura delle menti: una Power Couple fuori dagli schemi
​Giunta nella capitale con il pretesto di valutare cinque principi e scegliere un marito che possa spianarle la strada verso il potere, Shen Xi He si presenta come una protagonista atipica: fredda, cerebrale, capace di calcolare ogni singola mossa con precisione chirurgica. Ciò che non ha previsto è la presenza del principe ereditario Xiao Hua Yong, il quale, avendola già salvata in passato, sta silenziosamente orientando gli eventi a proprio favore.
​L'elemento davvero riuscito del loro rapporto è l'assenza di un banale colpo di fulmine estetico. Per Xiao Hua Yong si tratta di una vera e propria folgorazione intellettuale: affascinato dalla sua acume e dalla sua astuzia, riconosce in lei una mente finalmente pari alla sua. Costretto per anni a fingere una debolezza fisica (seppur reale) per sopravvivere a corte e scoprire chi lo avesse avvelenato in gioventù, il principe trova in Shen Xi He un'alleata perfetta. Il loro intimo affiatamento struttura una Power Couple impeccabile, capace di capirsi a distanza e senza bisogno di parole.
​A questo si affianca un corteggiamento impeccabile nei tempi e nei modi, fatto di gesti concreti prima ancora che di parole, che eleva la figura maschile ben oltre i classici canoni del genere. Al cospetto di questa dinamica, le altre figure maschili sfigurano inevitabilmente. Nemmeno il quinto principe, suo marito nella vita precedente, ossessionato dal senso di colpa per non averla salvata, riesce a scalzare questa intesa. Il suo arco tragico si chiude con il sacrificio, ma la vera forza della narrazione emerge nel momento in cui la protagonista gli chiarisce una verità fondamentale: anche in una seconda vita non lo avrebbe amato, poiché attraverso il principe ereditario ha compreso che i sentimenti non si possono pianificare e che la forza d'animo non preclude la capacità di aprirsi all'amore.

​Messa in scena, equilibri e paralleli narrativi
​Sul piano strettamente tecnico ed estetico, la produzione raggiunge vette altissime:
​
•Fotografia e linguaggio visivo: La scelta cromatico-direttoriale evolve in modo organico con il procedere degli eventi. La fioritura delle varie piante e dei fiori non è mai un semplice orpello decorativo, ma un simbolo tangibile di forza, guarigione fisica e mentale, e rinascita.
​
•Scrittura dei Villain e politica: Gli intrighi di palazzo mantengono sempre un'elevata coerenza interna, sostenuti da antagonisti ben caratterizzati e mai macchiettistici.
​
•Componente sonora: La colonna sonora (OST) si inserisce con tempismo perfetto, sottolineando i passaggi chiave senza mai risultare invadente.
​
•La linea secondaria: La seconda coppia offre un contrappeso narrativo fondamentale, regalando spensieratezza e autenticità in mezzo a una trama densa di complotti, al punto da risultare in certi frangenti persino più coinvolgente della linea principale.
​
Le criticità strutturali e la caduta sul finale
​Analizzando l'opera con occhio rigoroso, emergono tuttavia delle imprecisioni che non possono essere ignorate.
​Le prime due riguardano aspetti di gestione che, pur senza compromettere la tenuta generale, generano un certo fastidio: da un lato una scansione temporale indefinita, in cui eventi palesemente dilazionati nell'arco di mesi vengono percepiti come svolti in pochi giorni; dall'altro un'eccessiva prolungato distacco affettivo da parte della protagonista, la cui dichiarazione d'amore giunge a pochissimi episodi dal termine, spingendo oltre il dovuto la sua natura fredda e calcolatrice.
​Ciò che tuttavia incide pesantemente sul giudizio complessivo è la gestione del finale.
​Se da una parte l'emozione del ricongiungimento e la dolcezza dello special con la famiglia riunita riescono a toccare le corde giuste, dall'altra la risoluzione del nodo centrale del veleno appare del tutto affrettata e irrispettosa della costruzione precedente. Ridurre la quasi-guarigione di Xiao Hua Yong a una spiegazione sommaria confinata per lo più nello special è un errore metodologico grave per una linea di trama trascinata per intero dal primo episodio.
​Far rientrare il principe ereditario dopo quattro anni senza un reale confronto con la figura della nonna,responsabile del suo avvelenamento, svilisce la portata politica dell'opera. In una narrazione in cui ogni singola pedina è stata mossa con coerenza maniacale, questo epilogo rappresenta un evidente cedimento di scrittura.
​Paradossalmente, un finale tragico incentrato sulla morte del protagonista sarebbe risultato di gran lunga più organico e potente. Il suo estremo sacrificio per salvare l'imperatore (mantenendo la lealtà verso il padre fino all'ultimo, a dispetto di tutte le evidenze), unito all'eredità di un apparato statale perfettamente preparato per Shen Xi He, avrebbe sublimato il percorso della protagonista. Vedere Shen Xi He assumere il ruolo di imperatrice vedova al vertice del potere, intenta a guidare lo Stato e a crescere un futuro sovrano giusto a immagine dell'uomo amato, avrebbe consegnato al pubblico un capolavoro esente da sbavature.
​
Valutazione Complessiva
​Blossom of Power possedeva tutti i requisiti per posizionarsi su un 9.5 pieno. Purtroppo, la leggerezza con cui è stata liquidata la resa dei conti finale e la guarigione del protagonista costringe a ridimensionare il voto a un 8.5.
​Resta un titolo di altissimo livello, caldamente consigliato a chiunque cerchi una storia di riscatto, strategia e crescita personale costruita con rara intelligenza, pur con il rammarico per un finale che avrebbe potuto consacrarlo a pietra di paragone del genere.

Chaotic But Enjoyable Supernatural Thriller

Loved this. At times I couldn't keep up with the supernatural rules or constraints governing matters but with all the action and these characters I didn't mind.

Several mysterious deaths among royal princes in line for the throne lead the King to bring in a young shaman. The King attaches his daughter, someone tainted by the supernatural, to the shaman to observe and report. There are layers of intrigue as the dynamic duo uncover puzzles within puzzles as they contrive to solve and at times force their way through those layers, and grow closer too.

The young female lead, the King's daughter, was in particular a fascinating character given her estranged relationship with her father which in turn created interesting opportunities for her relationship with the male lead. Likely the actress' career got a big boost from her performance here and will command enhanced compensation.

Anyone who's seen Stranger Things will recognize some inspiration borrowed making for some striking visual representations of the supernatural world the duo move through.

I thoroughly enjoyed the episodes and was pleasantly surprised with an ending deliberately and shamelessly leaving an opening for a sequel.

I hope the Korean entertainment industry has learned from Hollywood how to inexpensively hook actors for future seasons of a hit series. Instead of signing a contract for one series/one year, Hollywood requires minimum three year contracts (so I've read). Most series fail, but when there's a success those three year contracts remove negotiations over commitment and compensation (until the fourth year). Let's hope that everyone commits to the second season.

Watchable

Being English not a big fan of Chinese love dramas and most of those titled on YouTube seem mostly about female infidelity. However I happened upon this while on YouTube and watched one episode. It reminded me very much of the Australian soaps of the 1970s/1980s and of course Kylie Minogue was a big star when I was about to leave school. Unfortunately for me this story line triggered memories I'd been burying for over 10 years but I decided to watch the whole series in 3 days. The male lead is probably the best actor although not great and his hair was often annoying. Song Qian was my biggest problem for me as she reminded me of the woman who hurt me especially her beautiful eyes. I think the young lady actors were all very pretty although a little shapeless lol but still pretty. The cousin of Song Qian was very cute and played her part pretty well as did the male leads assistant. I had read that the Chinese government controls the morals and scandals of celebrities and actors and I was shocked at the character of a lot of actors but respected the female actresses who refused to kiss but sadly Song Qian is not one of those and seems to have kissed a lot of men whilst acting and the men she is rumoured to be "friends" with or dating seem to lack moral integrity for the most part and I've seen too many women allow themselves to be used simply because men want to boast and cross them off a conquest list and given the emotional affect this drama has had on me this saddened me. But as I said I know little about any of these people except what the media reports and I can see from interviews and behaviour which I've studied most of my life. The story line wasn't great and there were many grammatical and interpretation errors and the accent dubbing was ridiculous lol. Song Qian's makeup was good and made a 37 year old look younger but I could see through the makeup and again this was irritating. Irritating because Song Qian is to me very beautiful but that's my personal taste and she will remain beautiful to look at in her 40s, 50, and beyond. Most actors nowadays are obsessed with success, money and fame in effect arrogant, self obsessed narcissists and this trait seems to be all to evident in society as well. The Chinese subliminal propaganda was irritating but having had a former Chinese friend living in China I knew how they educate/indoctrinate their children so it wasn't surprising. National pride is one thing but it was obvious to any intelligent person the attempt to paint a very biased version of China. Song Qian's character despite her emotional affect on me was often annoying and clearly true love is a difficult concept for communist inspired script writers as truly loving someone when one person is uncompromisingly selfish and willing to lie to and hurt someone who loves them deeply was upsetting hopefully it's not a true reflection on Song Qian's true character. Too often I've seen selfishness ruin relationships and most good men would not want a real relationship with a woman like this except as I said for a brief physical fling. The lies and deceit was upsetting and the loyalty to employer and country was expected from a communist dictatorship. I did enjoy the poems and sinners even the badly read and recited ones and the music was good. Overall I liked this drama but mostly because Song Qian's character reminded me of someone I loved as a friend very much who sadly chose to hurt me because as a Christian friend I saw the wrong direction she was heading towards. I hope that I'm wrong about my character opinions especially Song Qian but watching this remember that selfish, stubborn people rarely are able to change unless they have good moral standards and have genuine loving people in their lives. I did end up praying for Song Qian after studying her life and the internet stories just like I do every day for my former friend.

Just like sushi - light, well-balanced, and delicious!

If you enjoyed The Science Club (Sora Wataru Kyoshitsu) but are looking for something a bit more upbeat, this one's for you!

So much of my drama diet consists of stories with main characters that are in their mid-30s at most, so it was refreshing to explore the life of someone older, and I found myself inspired by Machiyama-san. Her arc of rediscovering herself and especially redefining her relationship with her son was heartfelt and emotional (I teared up every episode and even full-on cried at some points) but it was never melodramatic or sappy. Nagasaku Hiromi brought so much energy and charisma to the role that made it virtually impossible to not root for her! I also liked the slight romance between Machiyama-san and Oedo-sensei - although it wasn't explicitly made official by the end, their respect and affection for one another was palpable, and I appreciated seeing mature love with a slight age gap that doesn't sensationalize the woman being "of a certain age."

The rest of the cast was great (Motoki!!!!!!!), with distinct and vibrant characters, and they all had cute chemistry. Their storylines are maybe not the most complex or rich in social commentary, but I think it worked well in keeping the drama light and easily digestible. It was also fun to learn a lot of sushi vocabulary and trivia as a sushi lover!

Hauntingly fun

Let’s call this show, "I See Dead People.” A woman sees recently departed spirits seeking justice. Yes, the premise is essentially The Sixth Sense meets a police procedural. But it's an entertaining concept, and after two episodes, this K-drama already looks like a winner.

The cast is exceptionally charismatic, and the central storyline is easy to embrace: a psychic and a detective join forces to solve murders while a number of intriguing subplots begin to unfold.

Of course, part of the fun of watching K-dramas is spotting the plot holes. And this series appears determined to provide plenty of them.

Spoiler Alert: Stop reading if you haven't watched Episode Two.

The show's first major case involves a professional golfer accused of murdering his girlfriend. He's acquitted because prosecutors never recover the body.

A flashback reveals what actually happened. Around 6:00 p.m., the couple argues in a hotel room. During the struggle, the woman falls, strikes her head on the wooden bed frame, and dies. Panicking, the golfer flees, leaving blood behind.
Later, he hatches an elaborate plan. After photographing a flight attendant leaving the airport, he offers her a ride. She accepts, and accidentally leaves her wallet in his car.

Disguised as the flight attendant—with her ID, clothing, luggage, and a wig—he checks into the hotel room next door to the victim's. The rooms share a terrace. He crosses the balcony, enters the victim's room, stuffs her body into a suitcase, takes it back to his room, takes the elevator to the roof, climbs a water tower, and dumps the body into the hotel's water supply.

It's certainly creative.

It's also where the story completely falls apart.

The Biggest Plot Holes:

Housekeeping
The body supposedly remained in the room overnight, yet housekeeping never discovered it.

The Balcony
The entire scheme depended on two neighboring rooms connected by unlocked balcony doors. Modern hotels wouldn’t feature this design. And when balconies do exist, they're typically locked or otherwise secured.

The Disguise
The golfer successfully impersonated a female flight attendant despite modern high-definition security cameras, hotel employees, and identity verification.

The Body
This creates several problems all by itself. First, a standard flight attendant carry-on simply isn't large enough to conceal an adult. Second, even if it somehow fit, dragging that much weight through a hotel and then lifting it up a rooftop water tower would require extraordinary strength. Third, hotel rooftops are generally locked, alarmed, and monitored—not casually accessible.

The Investigation
Perhaps the biggest mystery isn't the murder—it's the detectives. Security footage revealed the victim never exited the room. Wouldn't investigators immediately examine every possible exit? A connected balcony and neighboring room would be among the first things they would check.

And that's before considering the forensic evidence. There was blood in the room. And a decomposing body in the hotel's water supply would create obvious contamination issues. The list goes on.

None of these problems ruin the show, however.

In fact, they may become part of its charm.

Sometimes a series succeeds not because every detail survives close scrutiny, but because it's simply fun to watch. This show has a terrific cast, an engaging supernatural premise, and enough personality that viewers may happily forgive its increasingly haunted logic.

If the remaining episodes maintain the same energy, this could still become one of the more entertaining K-dramas of the year—even if the detectives never notice the balcony.

Wtf?

No really... Wtf!
About 10 mins rape scene because of some type of grudge from the past?? That's it?? What's the point, man??

I've seen straight pørn with better plot lol but i have to give them that, it's a very f**king sinister idea, the devil in me is slow clapping the idea, god I'm so evil. (Only in fiction stuff not real, I'm not a psycho lol)

I would never recommend this, just watch pørn, it's better, even the "forced sex" is done better xD

And please don't think for a second that this is a BL, i believe Takemiya Keiko san is crying in a corner about what's been called BL nowadays lol

Great story, but not quite a home run

I was really looking forward to the series, and I am so glad that I watched it. However, they were some slight disappointments throughout the entire series.

First off, let me say that the acting was absolutely superb. I love the male and female leads, and their interaction was spot on for the storyline. Their interactions were witty and engaging, but one key factor was not included in this series. The male and female leads marry early on in the series, and of course it is contemptuous at first. Clearly, they fall in love and devote themselves to each other. However, if you were looking for passion between the couple, you are not gonna find it in the series. Despite the fact that they marry early on, fall in love fairly quickly, there is not one kissing scene throughout the entire show. It is sad, because the storyline is absolutely fantastic and it would have rivaled Pursuit of Jade without hesitation.

Perhaps this was a director‘s choice because the female lead, to my understanding, is extremely young during this filming. She was only 18 years old, and perhaps that type of passion would have been difficult for her in this series. Both female and male lead roles were extremely complex characters, and they played them flawlessly. It was just sad that they were missing that spark and passion between the couple.

Supporting characters were well fought out, and the actors portrayed their roles quite well. There were many times when I would find myself frustrated and just wanted one of the characters to get slapped in the face, but it all comes around and everybody gets there just dues. I will say the villains I’ll get there come up and, and all the heroes get their rewards. But it is quite a roller coaster along the way! So be prepared to be frustrated, but realize that everybody gets what they deserve in the end.

The storyline was well written, although there were some areas of confusion regarding the hierarchy of authority and power. If you can gloss over some of the confusion, it doesn’t disrupt the flow of the actual plot of the story.

I thought the soundtrack was excellent, and each song and background instrumental was well placed. It added well to the suspense and drama of the series, and I highly recommend getting the soundtrack.

Overall, a great show, but not one that I would probably rewatch. Not even particular scenes, because unfortunately, the lack of passion between the male and female lead was disappointing. Even during scenes when they build up the tension and you think something is going to happen, then it just doesn’t. It never came around to fulfill that void in the series. There were certain times when the male lead was protecting the female lead, and it fell a little short of being romantic and endearing. This had a strong potential to rival pursuit of Jade, but unfortunately fell just a little short. I recommend you watching the series because it is a really good storyline, but set the bar low if you are looking for a romantic, passionate leading couple. There really is no couple in the entire series That fulfills this gap.

Did not sign up for fantasy

I didn't like the fantasy part of the story one bit.
Other girl completely gone and new girl is here.
What? Huh? Yeah didn't like that at all.

Why did I stay regardless of the fantasy that I did not like? Well He Yu of course. The way he stares it was hard to drop this even though the story was ridiculous.

FL wanted to fall in love. Okay gotcha.
ML decides to get her to love him. Which took forever. Her reason for marrying was to marry someone she loves. How can she when she was so cold for long. Whatever I guess.. I overlooked it and kept watching.

The moment fl finally says her feelings I already stopped caring and was just watching to just watch.

As the story kept going the annoying 2ml just couldn't get why fl didn't want him. His story dragged until the end. Very tiring that I fell asleep and woke up on the last episode.

The acting really wasn't that great emotionally.
Don't know maybe because I already watched the best crying scenes recently in another drama... that these crying scenes on this drama didn't impress me. Just staring at my screen emotionless while the actors cried or looked sad. Felt nothing for these characters what a shame.

Another long drama that dragged on!
I can finally say I completed.

Through the Wringer, Worth the Ride

Blossoms of Power is the kind of drama that sweeps you up from the very first episode and refuses to let go. With Meng Zi Yi and He Yu leading the cast, the performances are exceptional — strong, nuanced, and perfectly matched. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the supporting cast adds depth, with villains and allies who each leave a mark.

This drama put me through the wringer. It dragged me through heartbreak, but it gave me one of the most magnificent love stories I’ve ever seen. I am dehydrated, exhausted, but elated.

What makes this drama stand out is how it balances grandeur and intimacy. The palace intrigue, the battles of power, and the looming shadows of fate are all gripping, but it’s the emotional core — devotion, resilience, and love tested by impossible odds — that makes it unforgettable.

I recommend Blossoms of Power wholeheartedly, but with one warning: brace yourself. This is not a drama you simply watch; it’s one you feel. Keep a box of tissues nearby, because the tears will come — from sorrow, from joy, and from sheer relief. This drama shattered me and then put me back together again. I would certainly watch it again.

It was fun but not mind blowing.

I sadly couldn't find this movie in top quality so I will not judge it based on its quality. It's from 2014 after all. Anyways, I quite liked this movie. It was really fun but I did get bored through the ending of the movie. I loveeeee this losers in love trope and I feel like 'May Who?' really done that right.

The movie itself is extremely original, with the plot being about May Nai who has 'super powers'. What I liked the most about the movie is instead of making her a super hero like character, they showed her struggles. She was disappointed in herself multiple times and I love how Pong always cheered her up. Him drawing her to cheer her up was just soooo adorable. I genuinely can't believe it took them that long to realise their feelings.

I feel like there was a lack on the relationship side. Both Pong and May were interested in someone else, but their love for each other was really undeniable. At some point towards the ending of the movie I was actually thinking Pong and May would stay friends and that the movie was about friendship. I have to admit I really enjoyed May and Fame, but not Pong and Mink. May and Fame had obviously returning feelings for each other, meanwhile ever since the beginning it was clear that Mink had no interest in Pong. I was excepting May and Fame to end up together. I have to admit that I didn't trust Fame at first because he seems a bit like a play boy who just tries to play with other people their feelings.,

I really like how they used the combination of 3d art and traditional art. Pong can for real draw extremely good and I love his art style. I also like how he expressed himself a lot through his art. The 3d parts were really fun and not 'weird looking' at all. It felt like I was taken into the story of the drawing itself.

Crazy how much I've seen off the actors without realising. I've seen Punpun Sutatta in a lot of series and I actually am a big fan of Tor Thanapob, he was amazing in spare me your mercy. The director Moo Chayanop also has made amazing movies like the red envelope and Suck Seed. I actually already recognised the style of Suck Seed a bit through the poster, that was also my reason for watching this movie. For the rest, I did not recognise much of the cast, which I normally do with Thai series/movies and I really like getting to know some new actors.

That ending was fun and it feels very open. I mean they do try to kinda make it clear that Pong and May choose each other but you could always think the other way around. Whether they end up together or not, this is an amazing movie on friends > lovers. I really like this. Yes, my review is a bit low but that's probably because the movie is not for my age and it did bore me at some point.
