A Hidden Gem of a Drama that Brings Excitement and Fulfillment

Key to The Phoenix Heart is a drama that is captivating from the beginning to the end. It is full of twists and turns, complex characters, intruiging schemes, and romance and chemistry that runs deep into the soul. I absolutely loved how fast-paced this drama is. This might be the first general/wartime historical C-drama I have finished and fully enjoyed.

Storyline/Plot:
I love how the plot twists were added. I love how viewers have to be a little confused and come up with theories before the truth is revealed. I almost forgot how it feels to analyze characters and their actions because dramas nowadays have become so predictable. With that being said, nothing felt 'out of character' at all; I thought this drama did a great job keeping viewers on their toes while still allowing characters to be realistic to their own values—whether good, bad, or in-between.

The romance aspect of KTTPH was portrayed IMMENSELY WELL, given the situation of Ai Mi being a minor during filming and the age gap. It is known that many people were concerned, especially since it is an intense wartime setting where light/sweet romance doesn't match. However, I felt like this drama still showed the sorrows and perseverance of true love without crossing any boundaries extremely well. Their chemistry was obvious without the need for "intimacy."

Acting/Cast:
I have been a fan of Hou Minghao for years now, and he has always impressed me with every drama he takes part in. I felt like HMH was able to display his full acting range and talent through Xiao Wuyi... being a general definitely suits him. I have nothing but praise for him! I have seen Ai Mi in various dramas, but of course, this is my girl's first lead drama! She did so so so well!! I really think Xie Jiayu can only be played by Ai Mi, as she is a young, ambitious, and brave girl. I look forward to her future works. I know she will make it big.

I also want to note how Riley did a great job as well! He has had multiple projects with HMH, but he definitely had the biggest role here. He did so well (even though I definitelyyy got angry at Li Mao many times). And finally, a big appreciation to the rest of the cast as well. Everyone did an amazing job with their roles, and I felt like everyone was casted very well.

Cinematography and OSTs/BGMs:
The cinematography coupled with HMH's acting and agility made the horse-riding and fighting scenes so, so good. The crew had a vision, and HMH played it perfectly. KTTPH probably has one of the best fight scenes I've seen; I wish we got to see even more. My favorite scenes were the horse-riding blindfolded scene in EP10 and the final battle scene. Additionally, the OSTs were amazing as always; I can always trust HMH to make OSTs for his dramas!

Overall:
Beautiful drama that deserves its flowers and more. I hope Hou Minghao and Ai Mi can feel proud of their work in KTTPH. I know they both worked so hard for this and had to push through the stigma. KTTPH truly deserves a higher rating; please please please give it a try. Don't hesitate; I promise you, it will be worth it!!

Plot and Story Progressing Done Right!!!

To be honest, I wasn't a fan of Nakun's acting when I started the first episode. However, it was only for a couple of minutes at the start of the episode; as the story progressed, my opinion completely changed. His acting is great. The biggest highlight for me was the plot and the directing. Sometimes, all a series needs is a strong story and good direction to make it truly enjoyable. I don't mean to downplay the actors' performances—they all did a great job as well. One thing I did notice was that the second couple's chemistry felt inconsistent throughout the series. In some episodes, they had amazing chemistry, while in others it felt like something was missing. Maybe that was an intentional choice, but I wasn't entirely sure. Overall, I really enjoyed this series, and kudos to everyone who took part in creating it.

it was good!

This drama turned out to be a delightful viewing experience. One of the things I enjoyed about the show is the fact that it has a little bit of everything. In addition to amusing elements, there are also some touching scenes and nostalgic scenes, giving the drama a distinct character. Of course, I adored the overall aesthetics of the work because of its unique atmosphere.

There are a few elements in the show that didn't seem to be quite fitting there. At times, I wasn't able to figure out the reason for some scenes inclusion in the show because they weren't fully connected with the rest of the story.

To conclude, I find The Scarecrow an entertaining work. Perhaps, it isn't perfect, but still, it has many good qualities to make it a worthy viewing experience.

como que uma criança de 12 anos é capaz de, sozinha, cuidar de 3 crianças, aluguel, comida, água, energia, etc etc????
simplesmente não dá
e obviamente ele não conseguiu, por mais q ele tenha tentado...

todos eles só queriam viver como crianças comuns que tem uma mãe, que podem sair pra rua, que vão pra escola, que tem amigos, que tem hobbies, que podem gritar quando brincam...
sabe coisas tão básicas e banais mas que são tão importantes se vc for reparar

e sabiam disso
pessoas adultas sabe
o suposto pai da yuki sabia
os funcionários da loja sabiam
a dona da casa sabia (descobriu na vdd)
eles não sabiam 100% da situação deles mas eles sabiam q algo tava errado e NINGUÉM ajudou
é bizarro que realmente se vc não tiver um rede de apoio sólida vc fica em vulnerabilidade social/em situação de rua MUITO fácil

o mais triste é que eles nem tiveram a chance pra conseguir formar isso pq a mãe deles simplesmente isolou eles do mundo antes

Honestly Deserves an 8.5+!!!

I've watched up to episode 4, and I genuinely recommend it. Every scene is visually stunning. The color grading and overall tone are gorgeous. But what impressed me the most is the directing and editing. The camera angles, facial expressions, and timing are handled so well that every emotion lands naturally without feeling overdone.

One of my favorite scenes is when Lu Shu unconsciously leans in and catches Shen Xiao's scent, which she finds comforting. It's such a simple moment, yet the cinematography makes it feel incredibly intimate and memorable. Another favorite is when Li Shu deliberately bumps Shen Xiao, causing his neck to narrowly avoid the sword aimed by An Le. The camera work and editing make the whole scene so tense without relying on exaggerated drama.

The pacing is just right, too. Up to episode 4, nothing feels messy or unnecessarily dragged out. The drama does a great job of directing each scene and building the atmosphere.

Honestly, I still don't understand why this drama only has a 7.9 rating. If it stays this consistent until the end, I truly think it deserves at least an 8.5+.

A Royally Captivating Tale

When I started watching this drama, I immediately realized how right I was to stick to my rule of waiting until a show is fully completed before binge-watching it. Otherwise, waiting week to week between episodes would have been absolute torture.

Despite sparking some debate over historical accuracy, "The Perfect Crown" shines as an utterly charming and visually stunning drama. The casting could not have been more spot-on. From the main lead couple to the secretaries and villains, every single actor was a complete hit. And what can I say about the young king? He completely stole my heart. So young yet such an incredible actor, I felt every single one of his tears.

The heart of the series lies in the extraordinary chemistry between its lead actors. Byeon Woo-seok delivers a genuinely sublime performance. His character is remarkably intelligent, brave, and talented; yet his strong will and desires are always shaped by his devotion to the king, whom he adores and fiercely protects. Despite the interference of royal relatives, traumatic events from his past, and his noble tendency to put others' happiness and well-being before his own, he is truly admirable.

Meanwhile, IU brings her signature grace and irresistible charm to the screen. I absolutely loved seeing a strong, intelligent, and fearless female lead who refuses to be intimidated by anyone or anything. Although she constantly puts on a strong, invincible front, it is merely armor. Beneath it lies a woman fighting against injustice, prejudice, and overwhelming social and family pressure, all while deeply longing for love and the approval of her father. Together, they create an effortlessly compelling on-screen couple that keeps you completely hooked on their story.

Beyond the romance, the production quality is a spectacular visual feast. The traditional Korean outfits (hanbok) are crafted with breathtaking detail and elegance, beautifully complementing the picturesque, atmospheric palace landscapes that frame every scene. Visually, the show serves as a loving homage to Korea's rich cultural aesthetic.

Supported by a solid ensemble cast, from the royal family, the secretaries and the Prime Minister to the devoted servants, that elevates the narrative at every turn, "The Perfect Crown" manages to rise above minor criticisms to deliver a memorable, deeply moving experience for lovers of historical dramas.

O what a show!

I just finished Lost Romance (LR) and I am so glad I decided to watch it after dropping it once last year after ep 1 and putting it on hold this year after ep3.
Contrary to many of the comments I saw before me, I find the real world romance very grounded and fairly believeable and constantly it makes me look back on the fictional world romance. and the sweet irony is that even when I am comparing at the back of my mind the real world and fictional world MLs (Tianxing and Aoran respectively) and the romance as it pans in each, I am also fairly aware that I am watching a work of fiction. As a student of literature, at so many places, esp after we come back to Tianxing and Xiaoen's romance, I took a pause to just think of the narrative--the frame narrative, the diegesis, the analepsis and I was so impressed.
As a show it doesn't take it self very seriously and that is where its beauty lies because the show has a deep emotional core.
The ML Marcus Chang, I am so so impressed with him. He portrays both his versions with equal elan and when we come back to Tianxing, we can see how Tianxing seems so very real compared to Aoran but when i was acutely aware of watching a fictional character Aoran despite knowing its a fictional world (inside the show). He was exceptional, also helped by the fact that he is handsome.
The FL Vivian Sung was equally phenomenal. The risque scenes were well shot and did not look cheap for a moment.
The SML Simon Lian was effervescent too--he has great screen presence and i liked his character.
I like the supporting cast, fairly well acted. The villain Hu uncle seems a 1D stereotype but the swindling was ingenuous.
I also feel Situ Moran/HeTianjing is a good looking actor as is his sister He Mingli. They play their parts well.
I also like that in the real world (in the show) characters are matured enough to give up on pursuing the ML(Shanna as well as Chuchu) once they realise Tianxing's heart is set for Xiaoen. That is realistic. In the novel's world, only Qing Feng has that maturity--but he is anyway a matured character with really high EQ, and would be as good in any other context something LR effectively shows the audience).

As a literature student, for me, characters of novels I have loved have always felt real as if they have their existence and we as lovers and readers have always sought to speak of them as real world beings. And so, for me, it is believeable when Xiaoen wants Qing Feng to have his own sweet ending.

These are my immediate reactions after completing ep 20 and who knows I might want to come back and add another detailed review some other time. But it is for sure, I would like to watch the show again in the future.

Completely Caught Me by Surprise

I went into Road to Success (2026) expecting a decent watch... but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.

What really won me over wasn't the romance—it was the journey of the team. Watching each member grow, overcome setbacks, and slowly become stronger together was incredibly satisfying. The character development was easily the highlight of the drama, and by the end, I found myself genuinely attached to everyone.

The male and female leads also did a great job with their roles. They were both convincing and carried the emotional weight of the story well. That said, if I'm being honest, their chemistry wasn't the strongest I've seen in a C-drama. It wasn't bad by any means, but compared to other dramas, I never really got those heart-fluttering moments between them.

Thankfully, the story didn't rely solely on romance to keep me invested. The friendships, teamwork, personal growth, and the characters' determination were more than enough to make me keep hitting "Next Episode."

If you enjoy dramas where the real payoff comes from watching people grow together rather than just watching a love story unfold, Road to Success (2026) is definitely worth checking out. It turned out to be one of those unexpected gems that I ended up enjoying far more than I ever thought I would.

an actual good drama!

i thought this would be a crime/comedy/romance genre and instantly thought geumbo and albert needed to be endgame. i had butterflies thinking about the age gap or how cute albert was to geumbo so it made me sad it didnt actually have romance 💔

(im not sure if the trailer was misleading tho and while i get they were important to remove pilbeom from hanmin it looked that there would be a little bit of romance but wasnt)

i read someone they couldve presented jungwoo and geumbo as colleagues because it didnt look like they were passionate during their relationship so i couldnt help but to think about it while watching it. i got to the conclusion that, even though they couldve shown more about their rs, it wouldnt be the same if they were simply colleagues because they knew each other favorite food, places, etc and even were kinda sus when both of them mentioned about it with the other mc while still thinking geumbo was jangmi

i actually enjoyed the drama, even tho it was weird for it to be 16 chapter but i liked it. i cried and hated the villains a lot. i think not a lot of people talked about this drama and its such a good one 💗

Not so great series

I fail to see how this series garnered so much support, other than the pre-launch marketing hype that comes with these dramas. For this particular series, while some of the acting was good it wasn't exceptional as I have seen in some of the cdrama - genre of wuxia, xanxia and palatial series types. Thje story of the fl/ml is convoluted and doesnt establish a solid rapport to carry the other plots past and present that arise in the drama. There are too many subplots that detract from the former comment AND, while it had great potential to be a great drama it let itself down in too many plots. subplots dictating and overtaking the mainthrust for the FL/ML in addition to both of them taking too long to see each others true identities especially for ML to fl. I have seen better than this to be honest its marketing hype is doing a great job of promoting it but there's disappointment at the watching side of all that marketing

A surprising enjoyable find in 2026

Obviously this is an older drama so there wasn’t a ton of expectation. However, I truly enjoyed it.

First thing, lots to adjust to in the production, the acting of actors, and overdramatizing. However as i progressed, it grew on me.

What I liked the most was the value of learning points from the lives of the people in the story. Therefore, I feel that writing was strong, making valid points and connections that applies to everyday life. Those kind of things appeals to me a lot so I highly value that in this. Female lead and her characterization of someone who is extremely kind, humble, and thoughtful is ideally a great person in these troubling times. I just really enjoyed her and her relationships with everyone in her life. Her budding bonding with male lead was cute. He, male lead on the other hand was a character to adjust to. Saw another review who felt lead was a dud. I on the other hand related to him, and found him adorable. Yes, everything about him was slow moving mannerisms so he can feel like a boring character. I though felt his opposite mannerisms from female lead made them a formidable pair, who is one of my favorite pairings and by now I’ve watched a LOT of kdramas.

It’s a story of families and their life happenings. Familiar in many of these family dramas, there’s hits and misses in portrayal. Lots of hits, and frustrations with repeated misunderstandings. Otherwise, it’s a meaningful story that by end tied well with a happy ending. I definitely enjoyed it and felt it was a great find.

A wholesome, uplifting story with just enough bite

Edit: Mea culpa. I had a brain fade while writing review 1.0 and posted it. It was not good. My bad. This is version 2.0. 🙏

On the surface, this is a sports centric youth drama. We are talking about junior soccer packed with senior high school boys. So much testosterone! ;)

I'm thankful they are a bunch of good kids. I mean that literally. Sure, there are friendship issues and bullying, but they are minor compared to the usual idol dramas. When you have a band of soccer bros, you know who have your back.

I have my doubts about the FL's role in this setting. She is a square block in a round hole. She has no teaching qualifications nor sporting prowess. She went back to her grandparents’ hometown after a nasty experience at university where she is doing her doctoral thesis. Ditto, our ML who was a star junior soccer coach came back from the UK as a dejected man. Both are ready to execute their version of lie flat.

This drama basically has 3 themes, soccer, soccer and soccer. Oops! I mean our OTP's romance, multiple healing journeys and the beautiful game. ;)

The pairing of our leads is nicely done. Their meet-cute is tropey but very effective. Thankfully, there are no second leads to muddy the water. Even then, it wasn't all smooth sailing as the ML has an ulterior motive to get close to the FL. Once they sort out their misunderstanding, we are rewarded with some nice skinship.

On the other hand, there are enough angsts in our OTP's backstory to allow the writer to inject some real-world issues like cyber bullying, mental illness, identity thief into the plot. Some might find the resolution superficial. I won't judge.

Let's be honest, this is a feel-good drama at its core, good will triumph over evil, eventually. Communication will resolve any misunderstandings, eventually. Our soccer bros will bring their A-game . . eventually. Hwaiting!

With the excitement of the recent FIFA World Cup, the timing of its release is perfect. The show doesn't try to be too technical. There is just enough talk about tactics and game play to give it some credibility. Everything is grounded. Not a hint of Shaolin Soccer anywhere. ;)

The young actors played their roles well. Their interactions give us real Band of Brothers vibe. It is uplifting and heartwarming. They made the soccer segments fun to watch.

You will cheer on the underdogs. You will appreciate the long game played by the elders. It touches on some societal issues, but only lightly. It is a relatively small world they live in. For this type of drama, that is enough.

Is it any good? It is good. Solid rather than inspired. Entertaining and brimming with empowering, feel-good messages. This series has hearts and an easy watch. There are evil in the world, but in this little corner, there is only soccer and romance. That will do.

Ultimately, this is not a big budget production. It is not perfect. We could nitpick until the referees come home, but what’s the point? We should be thankful for a few hours of uncomplicated entertainment in these times. Peace.

P.S. I noticed Ms. Yu toned down her acting and even modulated her voice in this drama. Is this part of her long term plan to transform her image? Intriguing.

A great romcom

I watched this sometime after Full House, which was also a romcom. I must say this is both acted and written better than Full House. Entire cast is likable with likable characters.

This show is mainly about a female protagonist who is a tomboy who has never worn high heels. Gender bender confusion is done very well in this show. The other, a favorite, gender bender show, where true gender is hidden, I had seen was You Are Beautiful. Here the deception goes on much longer than that show.

The romance in this show is more mature than either Full House or You Are Beautiful.

I didn't know what a Barista was before this show. I had seen coffee restaurants use that name but didn't know the meaning. I also dint know it takes real skill to make good coffee , to be a good barista. Here characters get trained years to become a barista. I was surprised. I mean how hard can coffee making be?

My minor negative comment on the show is I felt early on it was drawn out and slow at times.

Finally I think the ending was good.
