After long time vibe of 16 to 20 dramas

After a long time, I finally watched a drama that reminded me of the K-dramas I used to watch from 2016 to 2020. Most newer dramas don't have that same vibe, but this one brought it back. It may not have that feeling as strongly as those dramas, but it still has a similar atmosphere, and I really enjoyed it.

One thing I liked was that it was short and sweet. It never felt boring or dragged out, and I could watch it without stopping. The story kept me interested, and it also feels like they're setting things up for a second season.

As for the acting, I don't have much to say because the cast is full of talented and well-known actors. Everyone delivered solid performances.

One thing that really surprised me was Kwak Dong-yeon. Whenever Go Ji-hyun had fight scenes, I was reminded of Kwak Dong-yeon's role as the royal guard in Love in the Moonlight. Then I realized that he was actually the villain in this drama, which was completely unexpected.

Overall, this isn't a 10/10 drama for me, but it's definitely an enjoyable and easy watch. If you're looking for a drama with the vibe of K-dramas from 2016 to 2020, a good cast, and a story that keeps you watching, this one is worth checking out.

Loving the uniqueness!

I wasn’t planning to start Overdo until more episodes had dropped, but I saw so many negative reviews that I became too curious to wait. I’ve only watched the first three episodes, but so far, I absolutely love it.

I love that it doesn’t look, feel, or unfold like many other C-dramas. This is my first Republican-era drama, and I’m fascinated by the costumes, the visual style, and the presence of the characters.

It also doesn’t drag or feel slow to me. Things are moving, and we’re constantly receiving new information. The story begins in the present day, then moves back to three years earlier for a few minutes before returning to the present. Nuggets of backstory are woven throughout each episode, gradually revealing more about the characters and what happened between them. I keep wanting to uncover the next piece.

I’m still very early in the drama, and even if I had finished all five currently available episodes, I would consider it too soon to make any final judgment. But at episode three, I’m completely sold.

People naturally react to dramas very differently, and that’s part of what makes discussing them so enjoyable. I’m used to seeing disagreement over whether a drama was wonderful, disappointing, or somewhere in between. What surprises me here is just how extreme the divide seems to be. Right now, people appear to either love Overdo or hate it, with very little middle ground.

The Slow Burn That Turned Me Into Their Biggest Cheerleader

A rollercoaster ride of emotions is the best way I can describe my experience watching Flourished Peony.

The beginning is emotionally heavy and had me in tears. Watching Mu Dan endure hardship before finally finding her place made every small victory feel earned. As the story progressed, it gradually became lighter, and before I knew it, I was binge-watching episode after episode.

One of my favorite things about this drama is its pacing. Although the romance is a slow burn, it never felt dragged to me. Every stage of the story served a purpose, allowing the characters and their relationships to grow naturally.

The comedy deserves a special mention because it genuinely surprised me. The humor isn't loud or over-the-top. Instead, it's built around witty dialogue, clever banter, and the personalities of the characters. Jiang Chang Yang and Mu Dan constantly tease, bargain, and throw playful insults at each other, and I found myself laughing far more than I expected. Some jokes probably only work after you've spent enough time with these characters. I would explain a funny scene to my sister only to get a completely blank stare, while I was still laughing because I knew exactly why it was hilarious.

The characters are undoubtedly the heart of the drama.

The relationship between Jiang Chang Yang and Mu Dan became one of my favorite historical drama pairings. Their dynamic reminded me of both Gu Jiusi and Liu Yuru from Destined, and Gu Tingye and Sheng Minglan from The Story of Minglan. It's a relationship built on mutual partnership, trust, and a mischievous affection for one another.

Their chemistry isn't created through dramatic confessions but through countless small moments. Every scene they shared felt impossible to skip because the chemistry practically jumped off the screen.

One of my favorite details was how Jiang Chang Yang looked at Mu Dan.

At first, his smile carried the curiosity of someone who had met an unusually interesting woman. But as the story progressed, his gaze gradually changed. It became softer and more understanding, as though he no longer saw just an intriguing person, but someone he had truly come to know. I loved that the drama trusted subtle acting to tell that emotional journey.

I also appreciated that Jiang Chang Yang never tried to overshadow Mu Dan. Instead of constantly rescuing her, he respected her abilities, rooted for her success, and stepped in only when she genuinely needed help. Rather than trying to lead her life, he became the person quietly standing beside her.

Liu Chang was another character who stood out to me. He perfectly represents the idea that villains are made, not born. He wasn't simply evil from the beginning. His upbringing shaped him, his parents constantly pushed him toward the wrong path, Prince Ning exploited his weaknesses, and the Princess enabled the worst parts of him. Time and again, he had opportunities to choose differently, but his fear, pride, and indecisiveness kept pulling him deeper into darkness. By the time he realized where that road had led him, there was no turning back. As frustrating as he was, I couldn't help feeling sorry for him.

Another highlight is the drama's central theme of women's empowerment. What I appreciated most was that the message wasn't simply spoken, it was shown. Through Mu Dan's journey and the stories of the women around her, the drama illustrates how women supported one another despite living within the limitations of their time. Their struggles felt different, but each story added another layer to the drama's message.

This is only the first part of the story, so naturally it ends by leaving several threads open. At the same time, it wraps up enough of Mu Dan's journey to make me excited for what comes next.

Overall, Flourished Peony is absolutely worth watching if you're looking for a historical drama with well-written characters, witty dialogue, a mature slow-burn romance, and a businesswoman who earns every step of her success without relying on palace intrigue to carry the story.

Slice of life, mature, wholesome cute sports drama!!

If there are people hesitating to watch this cause of Esther Yu, do not hesitate because her character in this show is nothing like her recent work. She is smart, independent mature and really the core radiance of the story. I loved her character and her relationship with all the students and Wang Fa as well. Speaking of Wang Fa, Chen Jingke did a really good job in bringing out the charisma of a soccer coach and also someone the kids can look up to in their process of development. I am glad he is getting a lot more recognition from this drama!

Wanxing and Wangfa together built such a strong team bonded with their desire to achieve their dreams and win. Of course at the start it wasn't a smooth journey but I really enjoyed the process on how Wanxing managed to ignite the ambition in her students through her psychological knowledge.

Through out the drama you can see how the kids grew into better adults and in the last few episodes both Wanxing and Wangfa felt so proud of them. Both the leads came with a back story which was handled very well. There weren't any long misunderstandings or random breakups. Wanxing and Wangfa both gave each other space and at the same time were always there to support each other.

I liked how Wangfa said "More than being my wife, I want you to be the radiant and shinning Wanxing you are". For Wanxing who has been doubting and blaming herself for years I think the writer really wrote this scene well.

The romance is slow burn but you will enjoy watching the wholesome scenes of their matches, their defeat, their victories and their hardships.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show and I hope more dramas are written this way.

Honestly i really liked it!

So as many other others, before watching the show I came here first and reading through quite a bit of the reviews A lot of people were saying that it’s not “Yakuza” enough and he’s to nice and I personally haven’t watched too many Yakuza shows so this is just my opinion, but I don’t see why that is a bad thing??? As someone who watches a lot of true crime and knows quite a bit about Japanese true crime, They are not good people… and I stay away from watching too many dramas about them because It makes me a lil uncomfortable sexualizing them So the fact that San was kind and Changed his gang for the good and stopped killing people made me like him even more cause I don’t really think I would like him to be killing innocent people left and right lol. I can agree on the fact that it is very workspace, romance and less of mafia but still I I low-key disagree with the fact that he’s too nice haha that’s what made me like him a lot and I thought the show was simple and cute, not to crazy and dramatic. I loved the yearning, jealousy overprotectiveness and just great communication lol That’s hard to come by in shows nowadays. But moral of the story I enjoyed it. It’s very soft and I think a Fun and sweet watch<3

Don't know what to make of it really!

It was an okay watch overall.

I liked the premise, I liked the cast, and I liked how it started... but where did it all go wrong?

Maybe I was expecting stronger supernatural elements or a tighter mythology, but I kept waiting for things to come together, and they never really did. I found myself asking, "Wait... what?" more than once.

* Not enough fully developed connections between the past and the present? ✓
* Emotional stakes that never felt deep enough, especially the rebirth storyline? ✓
* Characters making decisions that left me thinking, "Wait... what?" (Like Dan Sim, was actually switched earlier?) ✓
* Almost no exploration of what it would actually be like for a time traveler to adjust to modern life? ✓
* The last few episodes had me reaching for the fast-forward button? ✓

I still really liked the leads, and the show had a strong start, but it ultimately fizzled out instead of building to a satisfying payoff.

Aesthetically pleasing and that's it

Shine on me was the drama I ended 2025 with and started 2026 with. I started this because I was bored, simple as that.

The only engaging plot that pushed me to continue to watch was the storyline between the female lead and 2nd male lead. I was curious after all, because what happened between those two to make them look at each other with such sad gazes filled with pain? The more we came to find out, the more we realized that it was because of misunderstandings and an inferiority complex. It reached a point in the story that I felt so bad for the female lead because she kept getting accused and misunderstood by her friend group, that I wish she wouldn't have forgiven them easily.

The second male lead is the perfect example of needing therapy and a hesitant trash, because he was so indecisive. One part he was caring towards the female lead and protected her, the next second he decides to throw insults towards her about being lazy and being a silver spoon. It was frustrating to watch because he was projecting his insecurities onto her, and even when she decided to move on, he couldn't accept that it was really over, when he never did anything in the beginning to start a relationship with her. He was acting all high and mighty about being the real victim of his relationship with the female lead when he self-destructed it himself.

The only time the story was engaging was when they focused more on the drama of the relationships. Besides that, whenever the female lead was working at the company and talking about the job, I couldn't help but get bored.

I don't have much say about the acting, to be honest. ZJM doesn't disappoint, especially in scenes needing emotional expression, but when it comes to romance, I just really can't get engaged when she is in romantic scenes because I don't feel like she's in love, and her acting doesn't convince me much.

SWL acting isn't that noteworthy in this drama either. He plays the perfect green-flagged male lead who has a tragic incident, which is why, when he's so perfect, there are no flaws, and in turn, makes his acting boring and his character less engaging. The chemistry was fine.

LWM acting was decent; his character was cold and distant, so it worked in his favour, but when it came to crying scenes, he wasn't bad and delivered it quite well.

I still haven't finished this drama despite it already being halfway through 2026 lol, but maybe I'll finish it someday or not, but until then it's on hold for me cause i just can't finish it.

I only watched this for Deng Wei, and his exit scene was pure campy and ridiculous

I watched the original and the character supposed to portray is insane, yandere, completely unreasonable and totally eccentric. However, his character in the show is okay nice enough, clearly likes her but not crossing any boundaries. Then at episode 28 she goes to his city, he offers to fake marry her to sneak her into the city, says he won't force her. She says 'sure thanks' bc at that point they're friends. Also he is really aware of how much she is dating her boyfriend, played by Joe Zheng. He fake marries her, sneaks her in, and then suddenly he's like 'now we're engaged and you can't leave the house'. What? He's so clever, lord of the underworld, has a shadow army, rich af by his own means, also is the clan heir. And really a sweet, smart kid. And then this suddenly happens? There's no arc, there's no motivation, he just switches. Nothing like the anime. If you're going to switch his personality near the end of the show, let me know why. Does he have a disease? Is he on drugs? Is he eating too many pig brains. The whole set up is just silly.

And at this point, you notice he's coughed up blood like twice a little bit in like episode 35-36, but it's not clear why and it is lost in all the action happening during this part. Anyway, she wakes up dressed in a wedding gown. He's all dressed up (and looks fucking amazing *sigh*). He's ready to go. Forces her to perform the ceremony. And after the bows, they have to drink the tea. But she's like 'I've already drank the tea with my boyfriend and I won't drink it with anyone else!' He seems to take this very poorly and the scene isn't over. No conversations have been had. And then he just falls backwards into the ravine, beautiful gowns billowing, and that's it. MAKES NO SENSE.

Next day, she is overhearing some court hearings and finds out the antidote to his poison was the wedding tea.
Zheng Shi: "I am obsessed with an ordinary woman, and I have tried nothing to cure my poison even though the antidote is literally right there, so goodbye cruel world. Maybe if I kill myself in front of you, you'll remember me." *yeet*

It's so poorly executed, it's campy. The lines in this scenes are so funny. Just falling off a cliff mid-scene makes 0 sense at all. Nothing was resolved, he was just left. Also they cut out his 'sexy goth Tushan Jing' sequences, where he's wearing a black veil and now we are all sad because why are we here? And I think someone said he may have come back from the dead, dressed in said outfit, but I'm not sure about that. Also best line by Deng Wei. spoken to her, "You're not particularly special, so ordinary, but I like you." Nothing he does makes any sense, and his totally bonkers character in the anime was FAR more coherent.

It's obvious to everyone that a lot of this was chopped up poorly (it's weird, they had 3 years to finish it, why is it still so unfinished?). Hanging frames, technically unpolished. But Deng Wei for sure it just feels like they had to remove a LOT of his character and scenes. I hope so, I hope that footage exists, bc I would like to watch it. I seriously hope they even wrote it to begin with, because there's gotta be a reason this is so damn ridiculous.

A Must-Watch Masterpiece: More Than Just a BL Drama

This whole year, most BL series have done nothing but greatly exceed my expectations, and I am incredibly happy to say that Payback falls right into this elite category. While I went into this project with exceptionally high expectations, the series somehow managed to completely shatter them, delivering a fabulous show led by immensely talented actors.

From the very first episode, it pulls you into a dark, intense, and emotional story that is impossible to stop watching. As a big fan of the original manhwa and novel, I was amazed by how much care, effort, and attention to detail went into this adaptation. Even when making specific changes to the source material, the creators made it work beautifully, capturing the true heart of the original while delivering something cinematic and emotionally powerful.

What makes Payback stand out is that it succeeds where many BLs struggle: it effortlessly balances a gripping, well-written plot filled with intriguing, surprising twists, and genuinely excellent NC scenes that serve the relationship rather than existing purely for fan service. The overall atmosphere is top-tier; the series trusts its story instead of constantly interrupting heavy moments with exaggerated comedy or silly sound effects. The humor is there when needed, but it never undermines the darker, revenge-driven themes.

Phenomenal Chemistry & Depth
It is genuinely hard to believe that this is Min and Toptap’s first series as lead actors, let alone their first project together. Their chemistry feels completely natural, effortless, and deeply rewarding to watch. They bring Sun and Yohan to life so flawlessly that Toptap and Min have officially become my favorite actors.

Min’s acting deserves special recognition. His performance is extraordinary; he has this incredible ability to maintain a guarded, almost expressionless face while still letting the audience read exactly what Sun is thinking and feeling. That is a massive skill. Even the subtle changes in his hairstyle and color perfectly mirror the stages of Sun's growth. I felt such a strong bond with his character—I laughed, I cried, and I cared so deeply for him that I know it’s going to be incredibly hard to say goodbye when it's over.

A Flawless Production
Beyond the main leads, the supporting cast brings incredible depth and authenticity to the show. The side characters have their own genuine stories to tell instead of just being used as background fluff.

Everything about this production is exceptional—from the gorgeous, stunning visuals to the incredible music, which was a massive highlight for me and set the perfect mood for every single scene. With fantastic pacing, memorable characters, and a plot that keeps you completely hooked, Payback is an unforgettable masterpiece. It is one of the most complete series I have ever watched, earning a permanent place among my all-time favorites. I honestly couldn't recommend it more, and it is one I will definitely be rewatching for a very long time. Easily a 10/10!

What you get when you combine Stranger Things with Korean mythology with a side of royal intrigues? Well, East Palace would be the resulting piece.

The drama took the theme of Korean mythology and gave it a fresh spin in form of Gucheon, who gains the ability to travel between the world of the living and the world of Gwi when his shaman mother committed suicide, taking him with her. Miraculously, he survived the ordeal despite his mother's death. And we also have Saeng-gang, an abandoned princess who was banished from the palace because she had the ability to listen to the voices of the dead. When the crown princes of the kingdom kept dying of mysterious causes, the king summoned Gucheon and Saeng-gang to investigate and eliminate the root of the problem but in doing so, the two end up uncovering the king's darkest secrets.

You can tell if a drama has a good story if it manage to capture your attention from the first episode. East Palace was able the deliver a good balance of mystery and horror that kept you wanting to find out what comes next. And the two mains had a very good dynamic that grew from reluctant cooperation into trusted companionship. And to complete it, the ost served a healthy serving of heavy metal as Gucheon and Saeng-gang work together to defeat evil spirits that threatens their lives.

just google who the killer is

The K2 is one of those dramas that is always on a must-see k-drama list; so, I added it to mine.

I loved JCW in the Worst of Evil and the Manipulated, but even he wasn't enough to keep me watching The K2. I was only able to make it up to episode 8 * I did have to ff through some of the episodes

First the good- Ji Chang-wook and Song Yoon-ah carried the show. They are the reason for 8 stars for acting,

The Bad- Yoona (Anna) It would have been better if her character was a child (like 9-12 years old) It felt like the character of Anna was purposely made to be an adult just so there would be "romance" in this drama. The "romance between Anna / K2 character was forced on the viewer and it was unnecessary to the storyline.

the plot also gets muddled with all political talk and it isn't intriguing. I decided to save myself some time skipped to the last episode to find out who killed Anna's mother.
