A Clever, Unclichéd Look at Social Class

Parasite is an engaging movie with a great pace. The beginning of the story is pretty standard—it isn't too slow or too fast. While it didn't necessarily keep me on my toes, it still kept me curious about what would happen next.

What I liked most was the clever setup. It was fascinating to watch how the poor family smartly infiltrated the wealthy household. Because they clearly have real skills, it makes me wonder why they were still so poor. Is it because the system prevents poor people from climbing higher up the social ladder? On the other hand, the rich family was gullible. Were they rich simply because of luck?

For me, the most memorable scene is when the mother, Chung-sook, profoundly points out that the wealthy family isn't just "rich but still nice," but rather, "they are nice because they are rich." It’s a great commentary on how the social system works and how kindness can be a luxury. The ending has a great twist—a moment where harsh reality destroys a hopeful illusion. I gave it an 8/10 because it's a smart, unique story, even if it didn't completely blow me away.

Great enemies to lovers drama.

A very well-done Romance plot, and the political part of it is very engaging, but there were many moments that I, as a viewer not used to political settings, did not understand. The strategies were not explained very well at several points, and the time skips towards the last few episodes were jarring. While I'm aware that these journeys on horseback and in carriages take months, still... especially the scenes of Manman's pregnancy being so rushed that she gave birth in the same or the very next episode after the news 😭

Regardless of these minor setbacks, the characterisation is top notch!! I was so happy to see that the characters ACTUALLY grow and change over the course of time.

The Wei generals were lovely supporting characters. Oftentimes, they were the ones bringing life to the scene. So sad that the most cheerful character, Wei Liang, got the worst ending 😢

Wei Shao and Qiao Man's relationship progress was SO SO GOOD. In these historical dramas, we usually see soft and weak female leads. It's nice to see someone so feminine and delicate still stand her ground and be so fierce. Best FMC, for real.

I really wish we'd gotten at least one more episode to see the aftermath of the battle once the villains are dead, and the Wei family reunited. I would have loved to see Wei Shao interact with his daughter for the first time... I feel like he would have been hesitant at first, not knowing how to hold her or play with her because he's always been surrounded by boys, but 😭 she would have her father wrapped around her little finger in no time.

Overall a very good drama, though the ending was quite choppy 🫶

Every Puzzle Piece Leads Back to the Past

Nine Puzzles opens with a chilling mystery that immediately pulls you in. Yoon E-na, an orphan living with her uncle, returns home one night to find him brutally murdered. Traumatised by the horror, she loses fragments of her memory and undergoes psychological therapy. But Detective Kim Han Saem is unconvinced. He suspects that E-na herself is the killer, hiding behind supposed amnesia — yet without evidence, he can do nothing.

Years later, E-na reappears in an unexpected role: a criminal profiler working for the police. Outspoken, sharp, and disturbingly perceptive, she quickly proves herself brilliant at reading crime scenes and human behaviour. Fate then forces her to work alongside Han Saem again when the owner of an upscale bar is murdered.

What begins as a single homicide slowly unravels into something far darker.

With every new murder, E-na mysteriously receives another puzzle piece — matching the one she picked up years ago in the blood-soaked house where her uncle died. Is a serial killer orchestrating everything? Is someone sending her messages? Or is the answer buried inside the memories she still cannot fully recover?

That is where the drama becomes addictive. Every episode raises more questions than answers. Why are these murders happening? Are the victims connected? Is the killer someone close to E-na? One of the senior officers? Someone who has been hiding in plain sight all along?

The atmosphere is thick with paranoia. E-na constantly feels watched, as though someone is tracking her every movement. Even the audience begins to feel uneasy for her, especially because she still lives alone in the very house where her uncle was murdered. The tension becomes suffocating — you start wondering not only who the killer is, but whether E-na herself is destined to become one of the victims in this chain of nine murders.

What makes the story especially compelling is that even E-na cannot fully trust herself. There are moments where she genuinely wonders whether she might have killed her uncle after all. The line between victim, witness, and suspect becomes dangerously blurred.

The investigation also slowly peels back layers of a long-buried past, exposing corruption, greed, and dark secrets that refuse to stay buried. Every revelation reshapes your suspicions. Just when you think you know where the story is heading, another twist changes everything.

I watched the drama dubbed in English on Disney+. While dubbing made it easier to follow the complex plot, hearing English dialogue over Korean performances felt slightly unnatural at times. E-na’s deliberately child-like voice was occasionally irritating given that she is already an adult, though I still preferred it over subtitles which often races pass too fast.

When the killer was finally revealed, the drama achieved something unusual — instead of pure hatred, I felt a degree of sympathy. Deep down, many viewers may even feel that some victims deserved their fate because of how corrupt and morally rotten they were. Yet the drama never fully justifies vigilantism, constantly reminding us that personal vengeance and justice are not the same thing.

For entertainment value, this drama scores highly. The plot is tightly woven, suspenseful, and full of psychological tension. Despite its dark subject matter, the cinematography prevents the series from becoming visually dreary or emotionally oppressive. That balance works well for me, because when a drama becomes too relentlessly bleak or suffocating, I usually find myself skipping scenes — or dropping the series altogether. It is the kind of thriller that keeps you guessing, keeps you uneasy, and most dangerously of all — keeps you clicking “next episode.”

Huh!!! What Even Happened Here?

I didn’t know a luxury fashion show or a commercial ad could be stretched into 12 hours long — well, apparently that’s exactly what Perfect Crown was all about.

First thing first — the clothes were pretty good (at least to my non-fashionista self), the location shoots were beautiful, and aesthetically the drama looked expensive and polished. But honestly, that’s where all the praise ends.

So let’s dissect this fashion show.

Now let's start with the fashion designer a.k.a. the writer. This has to be one of the sloppiest scripts I’ve seen in a K-drama in recent times. The characters are underwritten, their actions make little to no sense, and the drama itself never knows what it actually wants to be. It neither functions properly as a political drama nor as a rom-com. In simple words, it’s just a badly stitched designer outfit with an expensive tag attached to it — stylish from outside, empty from inside.

Now to our creative director a.k.a. the director.
From start to finish, the direction felt completely lost. The entire focus was on making the actors look aesthetically pleasing instead of making the characters feel believable. Every scene looked visually polished, yet emotionally hollow. A smart director can elevate weak writing through strong guidance and performances, but here that never even seemed to be the intention. The director cared more about presenting beautiful “models (actors)” than actually selling the clothes themselves — i.e the acting, characterization, and story.

Now coming to the models themselves.

Starting with IU — honestly, God knows what happened to her here. She was supposed to be the star model of this entire show, yet she couldn’t even manage a normal runway walk, i.e. basic acting. To put it simply: she was just bad here. If IU had put even bare minimum effort and conviction into grounding the character emotionally along with right comic sense, she probably could’ve carried it despite the weak writing. But because her acting skills still lacks and heavily depend on strong support around her, her acting flaws became more visible and everything completely fell apart here. Unlike some of her previous works, there was no strong direction or seasoned/talented co-stars here to cover up for her weaknesses.

As for the male lead — with an impressive height of 190 cm, I only wish his acting presence had been equally impressive. Personally, after watching *Lovely Runner*, I wasn’t expecting much from him to begin with, and unfortunately this drama only reinforced that opinion. Within this entire fashion show analogy, he honestly just felt like a plain model with a bad runway walk being labelled as some “supermodel.” Simply put, he was the weakest link in terms of acting in this drama.

In the end, this entire production feels like a massive waste of money and time.The writing is messy, the direction is shallow, and the performances from the leads fail to carry the material. Every major element of the drama feels undercooked beneath all the luxury packaging.

If you’re a fan of the actors, maybe the visuals alone will satisfy you. But for general audiences, there’s very little here to stay invested in. There’s no emotional spark, no narrative tension, nothing truly compelling beneath the glossy surface.

with a killer, high-concept premise And great cast but total dissapointment with predictable tropes

It is incredibly disappointing when a K-drama starts with a killer, high-concept premise , cinematography , Talented actress and then immediately waters it down into the same old tired, predictable tropes.

You have a Joseon "villainess"—a woman who survived the brutal, cutthroat politics of the royal court using her wit, manipulation, and sheer force of personality. Dropping a powerhouse like that into the modern entertainment industry is absolute gold.There were so many challanges in modern workd she coukd have gone through, and with experiencing high stake political wars in palace she is not a naive character.

History is almost always written by the victors (and usually men), meaning powerful, ambitious women in the palace were instantly stamped as "evil villains."

The show had a massive opportunity to explore her trauma survive and defend her past actions—showing why she had to be branded as a vilan .
But what happened was after 6 episodes in and it’s just the male lead trailing her around while they check off the standard "arrogant rich guy, struggling woman. it was just Same trope Rich arrogant CEO with poor women. That is a massive waste of a dynamic character.

Until episode 3 it was fairly good with something new to watch. The potential here was endless. Instead, by Episode 6, the writers completely abandon their own high-concept premise to deliver a generic, utterly boring "rich chaebol meets poor, struggling woman" romance.

The female lead survived the brutal, cutthroat politics of the Joseon royal court. She shouldn't be a damsel in distress. The story should have been about her using her ruthless ambition, palace-honed acting skills, and sharp intelligence to conquer the modern entertainment industry.

The show completely misses the opportunity to explore the historical branding of women. It could have deeply examined how history paints ambitious palace women as "evil villains," drawing a parallel to how the modern media treats actresses.
Six episodes in, and nothing actually happens. The plot consists entirely of Cha Se-gye trailing Seo-ri around.

The casting choices are great, and both leads are genuinely good actors, but they are trapped in a script that wasn't good.

Interesting idea that is buried by the deliverance

Honestly I started this drama because it was recomended to me and I didn't expect a lot but still they did the concept so dirty…
Just to begin with my overall rating: easily a better 7,5-8 for me (I still can't really decide) - but it depends on what you are looking for in this show. If you fancy a simple supernatural comedy with a bit of romance, this show will be for you. For the rest who are looking for something more dark and thrilling with sophisticated lore that makes sense, this show will leave you really disappointed in my personal opinion.

But first I would lik eto focus on the positive side of this mess. The production is really on point - the drama has nice locations, the characters look interesting and the camera sometimes does really incredible job. Just from the visual perespective - the drama is a really good looking piece. For the story I would say that the core or the idea behind the show is really interesting. We have superheroes fighting against religious x scientist organization, which i think is a really brave premise for a kdrama. I personaly love these kind of “normal citizens against evil companies” plots, so I was really excited as the drama progressed and introduced the layers of this fictional universe. To mention the acting I would highlight the never disappointing Kim Hae Sook, who stood out with her performance and also Choi Dae Hoon who made some scenes really emotionaly impactfull. To addition I would say that some elements in the story were really fun and creative - for example the creative ways of using Dae Hoons superpovers, which seem a bit useless but he really made them work, interesting scenes, for example the scene when the two police officers came to the church facility or when DaeHoon was stuck with the possesed believers in the last episode I think. I really had fun with those little highlights in the story but that is about it for me. And honestly many of the positives go hand in hand with the negatives.

So to start with the elephant in the room: the two protagonists and their romance story. I am SO OVER everybody blindly praising Cha Eunwoo and Pakr Eunbins acting. With Cha Eunwoo I think he played only ONE character his whole career (i haven't seen all of his work but a big part). He only plays the kind of shy guy who underneath the trauma dump is slowly developing romantic feeling towards the female lead- which is usually shown through his faint smile and awkward hugs. He brings almost nothing to this character and I refuse to blame the writers, because this guy has so much traumatic experience and we see nothing reminiscent of sadness on his face in the entire show. Even during his emotional scenes his delivery falls sooo flat it hurts. (I'm sorry I had to let this out after such a long time - had problem with him since Gangnam Beauty)
But I was surprised that he wasn't the character I would find the most problematic. Because there is Park Eunbin. And to be fair I don't “prefer” her as an actress but I liked some of her work so I had hope with this one. But oh my what the hell is this disney adorkable mess doing in a show about ilegal child experiments? I have overall problem with this type of character, because many times it feels sooo forced and stupid in a not funny way. And this was a textbook example!! She basically lives as the comedy punching bag throughout the whole show and as fellow revievers pointed out is unnecessarily stupid. She literally has the telleportation ability and is practicaly immortal, but characters treat it as a by the way ability. Everybody is constantly scared for her life - like what the hell. But that is the less frustrating part. The humor of this show heavily relies on her and her joking personality - which feels so unnatural and forced. And I think this is a actor and writer problem, because I have seen this character work a couple of times - for example Kim Bok Joo, she was soo extra but still felt like a real person who is not menat to be only ridiculed. And that is because during the emotional scenes the characters show emotions - they convince you of the gavity of the situation. You may not agree with my example but I would still say that Chaeni is a badly written and poorly executed character.
And to combine the shitshow - the romantic chemistry is absent in this show. I am so dumbfounded about this even day after i finished this show. The story is basicaly relying on the romance between the two leads even though it tries to hide it. There is nothing else that is steadily progressing as the romance plot in my opinion. Which is understandable, we are wathching a kdrama afterall but due to this fact it sould be an easy job to make it feel real, shouldn't it? Well I guess not, because I feel nothing and I mean NOTHING between these two. And that is also falt on both sides beacuse the very few emotionaly heavy scenes are basicaly what we have seen only a few thousand times - holding hand beside bed, kissing to surprise somebody.

So Imagine my disappointment when it came to the story. At this point I was really looking past the characters and more focused on the actual evil plans that were slowly executed. But to my surprise the writers treated the plot of this story as something that is kind of weird and wrong but not thaaat bad. Like really the story is about sicientists who probably abducted many children just to do many let's say unethical experiments on them. And in addition are hiding behing a huge cultish religion, who si providing money to their experiment through fooling a big portion of the city. But these main leads approach it as if basicaly nothing much was happening. At the begining it was very exciting with the unknown substance, alegedly weird animal, paranoid resident, etc. But that gets thrown out of the window as soon as the trio gains those “quirky superpowers”. NONE of them seems to grasp the weight of the situation. Like this is Save me level of despicable but no one is properly doing anything (aside from grandma sometimes). Meanwhile they are trying to get better with their new skillset, which is sometimes funny sometimes really not.
As for the villains they also just don't feel really dangerous and well written to me, like almost everything in this show. As I watched I understood that the evil main scientis is someone who I should really want to kill with my bare hands. But I didn't feel that, he was just kind of there and then died. He just had no character - we don't see him that much to develop a proper hatred for him I think. Also the role of the evil is split between the Wunderkinder (of course it is in german), which made the situation worse. Like there are too many characters for a 8 episode show. Noobody gets enough screentime to develope and for us to care about them. But about that later. I would just like to add to this segment that I see many references in this show - like many. You know the evil corporation which experiments on children and which later proceeds to contaminate the whole city …exactly something out of Resident evil, then the scene with the chainsaw … oddly similiar to The Shining, the bulllet sceene … which is kind of like something that happened in Matrix maybe. And I believe you could find more. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is wrong to reference or use concepts that have been used before. The problem is that all these things that I listed are kind of serious and treat the plot as something important - which this show refuses to do. I am mostly angry if I compare it to Resident Evil - if you know a little about it you know how “deeply unsettling” the universe is. And for show about a similiar thing refusing to at least do something with it does a bit offend me.

Of course there are many inconsistencies, but just to name a few - the show doesn't explain how the main trio acquired their powers, Juri is going back and forth with believing the Father for no exact reason (obviously he doesnt care about them), Eunwoo's character blows up the whole facility to save his friend but proceeds to provide his new friend for the same torture, etc.

I strongly believe that this show would benefit if it had been longer. Just how were they expecting to introduce the whole concept of the show with all of its exposition and then conclude the plan of the evil side in 8 EPISODES. This is a minimum 12 episodes kind of plot in my humble opinion. To be a devils advocate for a minute - I was really hoping to see more dissterss for the main protagonists, more action form the granny team, like they don't even fully explain why was the grandmother involved.

So to conclude my silent outcry, I don't know if i really want to recomennd this show. It is a really fun watch and you probably won't get bored throughout it but it could be so much more. Because the moment you start thinking about the character's choices the story starts to erode.

A lot of forced drama for no reason

This was good but definitely had moments that felt like forced drama just to keep the show going. Everything with that one guy (I don't even remember his name) was so stupid. Why did he even hate the main two so bad? That felt out of nowhere and then they just kept it going. I did think we'd get a bit more of them together so that was a little disappointing too. It seemed like every time we got a little progress towards them being in a relationship, we then took a few steps back. They were really cute together whether that be as best friends or more. Li Ming and Ouyang were really fun together and I was so happy when they finally got together. The actor's chemistry was pretty good as well. I'm glad I watched this pretty much in one sitting because I think I would've gotten pretty bored if I watched it weekly.

Fourever Final Part Review: Cute, Light, and Worth the Slow Burn

The final part of Fourever did not disappoint. Across almost 40 episodes over both seasons, the story wrapped up in such a cute and satisfying way. Set in a high school setting with a friends to lovers storyline, the series balances light romance, family drama, and emotional moments really well. Pie as Tiger and Golf as Nao are adorable together, and their chemistry had me hooked from the very beginning.

Tiger, the lonely youngest son of a powerful and wealthy family, first meets Nao during football tryouts. While Tiger grows up surrounded by arguments and pressure, Nao comes from a poor but loving family that always feels warm and welcoming. I really liked how the drama showed that money cannot buy happiness. Tiger would rather spend his time relaxing with Nao on a small couch than stay alone in his giant mansion, and those moments made their relationship feel genuine and comforting.

How ironic that in one family, the older brother is completely oblivious, while in the other, the younger brother is the one who cannot see what is right in front of him.
Singha has had Ben by his side for years. A loyal bodyguard, a constant shadow, a man who has quietly loved him for more than a decade. Yet Singha remains utterly clueless, never realizing that Ben's devotion runs far deeper than duty.

Then there is Tiger, who has spent more than six years loving Nao. And somehow, Nao is just as hopelessly unaware. The funny part is that everyone else can see it. North, clumsy as he is, took one look across a soccer field and immediately understood Tiger's feelings. Nao's own twin brother knows. Practically the entire world seems to know except Nao himself.

So we end up with this amusing parallel: in the mafia family, the older brother is the oblivious one, while in the other family, the younger brother is equally blind to the truth. Two different stories reflecting each other in the most chaotic way.

The only part that feels a little hard to believe is how quickly someone who has always considered himself straight suddenly starts trying to navigate feelings for his best friend after a confession. For years, girls were the ones he noticed, the ones he thought were cute. Then his best friend confesses, and now he is genuinely considering dating him. It is a dramatic shift, though feelings and self-discovery can sometimes be far more complicated than people expect.

Still, that is part of what makes the story entertaining. Between Singha being oblivious to Ben's decade-long love and Nao somehow missing six years of Tiger's devotion, this felt like a double episode built entirely on beautiful, ridiculous cluelessness.
The slow burn romance was done so well, making every small interaction between them feel meaningful. Along with the school setting, athlete male lead storyline, flashbacks to the past, and touches of mafia family drama, the series still keeps a fun and soft atmosphere without becoming too heavy.

Overall, this is a cute and entertaining BL that is easy to watch and enjoy. The romance feels natural, the emotional moments hit well, and Tiger and Nao completely carried the series for me. Definitely one of the more enjoyable light BLs

ML gives me the ick so bad

i really tried and forced myself to like it bc I think both are good actors and the story is a classic with a twist BUT the male lead is so bad (not the actor just the role). The way he forces himself in her life especially in a position where she must trust him as a lawyer idk its not for me
personally I also dont find hin that attractive but due to the fact that his acting is quite good I never minded that but in this drama this adds to it
also the manipulation (with the help from the other lawyer but the fact that the ml plays him also dirty) up to just ep 6 no thx

The sequel disaster ft. Only friends: dream on

I'll start the review by saying that much of my expectation from this sequel stemmed from its original series, which is half of the reason for season two’s poor performance.

The story wasnt anything remarkable, the couple stories was nothing extraordinary. The same could be said about season 1, however, what really sets them apart is the toxic writing in season 1. The main part of the plot was the messy relationship between the characters, not the actual relationship itself. In season 2, they completely ignored this aspect, introduced a lousy messy trope to stir things up towards the climax and slapped a “season 2” on it.

I personally would've rated it higher if it weren't a sequel but at the same time, I wouldn't have picked up a mediocre plot such as this if it weren't an extension of only friends to begin with.

a slice of life paced take on romance…

Countdown to yes… unlike the name suggests there is no drama no cliff hangers no tension, in this countdown.. its a mix of emotions of coming of age and reality of adulthood.
Minato and Wataru were cast well… the actors portrayed them beautifully for me, so fresh yet matured acting for their age.
It has very few support cast yet they all gave context to the leads so well. Snippets from the flash back though felt too many initially, effectively bridged the youth and adulthood of Minato and Wataru over a decade
I understand why many felt that it’s slow paced, however for me I enjoyed the details that elaborated on why the hesitation from both Minato and Wataru held back at different Phases. This is a drama without drama for me… it sat somewhere balanced, Not too heavy on romance or not too raw

There is no question if they both love each other or not
The real question was that, can they commit to each other or not and risk their friendship
I felt the pain and confusion of Wataru, when Minato leaves after college for work, I understood why he felt conflicted about MInato wanting to move back in 3 years later, the acceptance that his overflowing feelings cannot be held back but how will he deal with another separation or abandomment from Minato
Minato works hard towards coming back to Wataru since the time he realizes his feelings for him, and the passion with which he pursues him after he comes back captures his longing for the lost time.
Minato however pauses and hold back and not gives into his feelings to respect Wataru’s wishes of wanting to maintain a platonic relationship. ( the scene where he is holding the flowers behind him intended for a confession, But instead says that he is ok to go back to being close friends, Wataru captures it in a selfie and later reflects on it while washing the film) that’s subtle way of portraying the same emotion which Wataru explains earlier to the child about sometimes being an adult is taking care / respect others feelings. Like this, there are many other things that kept looped in to heighlight, like the conversation of Minato and Wataru’s Mom where she says how considerate he is of others feelings to a fault like enduring things he don’t like. Like how during a conversation with grandpa Minato shares how he and wataru are like grandpa and grandma, a quiet yet enduring love over the years of taking care of each other and witnessing and clocking eachothers life… how grandpa and grandma’s relationship was showcased to show how Minato draws that parallel towards him and Wataru.
In that there were no breakups and makeups… no back and forth for the sake of it, For the first time the countdown to yes over 9 episodes to say yes was justified.
They are shorter episodes of under half an hour so 9 is not too long. For me this drama was a hidden Gem that I binged. And I will be rewatching it again in future.
I am writing this review because had I relied only on the reviews I might have not given it a go and ended up missing it!!!
