More makjang than political thriller
In a line : closer to being a modern take on historical-melodrama-political [ saeguks??is that the term ?] than an actual political showI'll start with the strengths of the show :
An incredibly stellar cast of actors that deliver on the roles that have . A lot of it is understated , quiet performance. If you're looking for out and out dramatic dialogues this may not be the show .
The stunt co ordination , action ,vfx and the overall shooting ,landscape , wardrobe were well done and cohesive. Music was decent and added to the atmosphere, without taking away from the moments they framed.
The neutral :
I can respect the complexity of the theme they were attempting. Political plots are seldom easy to keep engaging , and this does that up untill episode 6. A leading politicians death [an assasination on this case] is layers of plot by itself - and here the cause that he stood for adds even more dimensions to the plot. It was interesting seeing the relationship between Minju and Park Sanho evolve and grow -the building tension , the subtle slow burn , and most importantly the events that allow them the space to become what they are to each other. That was well acted and reasonably written.
The falloff [ or why the show fell from an 8.3 to a 2.0 for me post episode 6]
There were too many layers ,unanswered questions, rushed plot lines shoved into an 8 episode plot. Given the calibre of the actors chosen , the layers the show hints at and the fact that this was a netflix production -this shouldve been at least 12 /14 episodes long ,if not a full classic 16. There are too many jump cuts between scenes , backstories reduced to 2 minute dialogues with dramtic scores and cinematography- leaving behind enormous plot not holes but craters . What was additionally upsetting , was the use of religious symbols throughout the show -that had next to no
purpose ,other than serving largely as an asthetic choice.
Lastly ,without dropping all my spoliers . Modern political heavy shows ,by virtue of the genre for me -require a degree of anchoring in reality. They can have impossible concepts , but must lead audience to believe on this seemingly impossible concept. This is where Tempest fails .
After episode 6, for me the show looses its grip on the many layers it is trying to cover. It attempted to be too many things at once and ,falls under this collective weight into a jagged unclear mess. Rather than the cutting sharp edged drama it aspired to be.

Things I adored1 The premise. Perfect for a rom com and I anticipated so many wonderful moments. I was wrong to get excited. it never took off and the acting and the script were lackluster.

1 The outfits of the FL. I loved most of them and they suited her.
Things I liked
1 The FL. She's beautiful and she got talent. That said she didn't deliver here. She was too restrained, but I don't blame her. I blame the director. He didn't manage to get the best out of her. That said, I also felt like she went through the motions without feeling any of her lines. Frustrating to say the least.
2 Let's say I didn't dislike him. But I think he's not good at romantic scenes.
3 The aunt. At first I hated her and in the end she became the only character who entertained me.
Things I disliked
1 I didn't feel anything when they were together. It was too stiff, too bland. There was nothing that sparked anything in me. I didn't even care in the end. I'm not happy because I saw the premise and was so excited and since I like the actors I was sure it'd deliver. Where did things go wrong? I dare say the casting was a failure.
2 That I didn't see the villain pay.
Things I hated
1 The ex. What a pathetic character and this is the kindest thing I can say. But also what an awful actor. He reminded me of a spoiled child and not only the character. The whole demeanor of the actor shouted "bad acting". I can't imaginew ho chose him. That's why I say the cast was a failure.

1 The second couple. Not interesting enough for me and no chemistry.

I'm loving this drama!!!! Zhang Linghe acting/presence is👌🏽🔥😮💨. I also like the plot, this drama may not be for everyone and that's okay. However I see where people are hating without actually taking the time to watch starting to wonder if they just don't like ZHL personally or because of POJ🤔. This is not your typical modern/historical drama, it is different which I like!!! Zhang Linghe proved to me that he can play any role I hope he continues to grow and shine✨✨. Refreshing honesty and openness
It's worth repeating what another reviewer said, he yearned! That was so attractive in the ML that I can forgive any little story inconsistencies. We need more of that in dramas. They had each other's backs and I was so glad we didn't have to play relationship games.Styling could have been better. ML is handsome but that brushed back hair style was terrible. FL had some unattractive outfits.
Overall it kept my attention and had some nice romance to it.

Drama Worth Watching
I honestly didn't expect Overdo to become one of those dramas I'd think about even after finishing each episode, but somehow it did. It wasn't because every episode was perfect or because it tried to do something revolutionary. It was simply because I enjoyed the journey from beginning to end.What I liked the most was how easy it was to stay invested. Every episode I found myself looking forward to the next, wondering what would happen and wanting to spend more time with the characters. That's something I don't experience with every drama.
The cast really brought everything together. Everyone felt like they belonged in their roles, and the chemistry never felt forced. Zhang Linghe especially stood out to me. He didn't rely on loud scenes to make an impression. Sometimes it was just the smallest expressions or the quiet moments that made his performance memorable.
I know Overdo won't be everyone's favorite, and that's completely fine. Every drama has its own audience. But for me, this was one of those shows that reminded me why I enjoy watching dramas in the first place. It made me laugh, made me curious about what would happen next, and gave me characters I genuinely cared about.

Amazing storyline and acting
It is not just a romance story but a storyline that involves social issues including human trafficking, child abusing, war and drug abuse. Due to censorship certain details could not be explicitly portrayed in the drama but after watching different analysis, I indeed discover surprises here and there.The actors' acting skills are amazing, especially the male lead actor Zhang Linghe - each crying scene he is able to deliver different emotions, and the scene between him and his mother fighting over XXXX (unfortunately I could not say it otherwise it's a spoiler) is one of the best acting I have seen from him. That's why despite one or two flaws in AI scenes I still enjoy this drama a lot. And indeed after the first few episodes the photography and editing significantly becomes better.
I do wish there would be more variety of background music options being used in this drama because looping few music over the drama is not the best choice, but maybe it's a budget issue that's why they do not have a lot of music choices. Despite these minor flaws, still a very enjoyable and exciting drama indeed, the storyline definitely surprises me here and there.

What Worked for Me ✅️• Cui Shi Jiu’s redemption arc and her relationship with Zheng Zhi Heng suprised me the most.
• The side characters in the first half of the drama.
• The pirate-life storyline and overall atmosphere during the first half.
What Didn't Work for Me ❌️
• The leads felt boring and one-dimensional and had not chemistry.
• Killing off almost every major character, including the male lead.
• The way the male lead's death was handled... it happened in the background and wasn't even properly shown.
• Losing the emotional core of the story after most of the crew was killed off.
• The second half felt like an entirely different show from what I had originally signed up for.
• Zhao Lusi didn't fit the character for me personally.
Overall, the drama went downhill after the first half and never really recovered. For me, the biggest issue was that the story removed so many characters that there was eventually no one left to root for. Once that emotional investment was gone, it became difficult to stay engaged with the story.

Lie to Love (良言写意) – An Underrated and Surprisingly Engaging Drama
"Lie to Love" is one of those dramas that I feel is somewhat underrated. It is neither a great masterpiece nor Luo Yunxi's best-known drama, but as well-made and surprisingly engaging television entertainment, it works exceptionally well for me. I gave it 9,5/10.
I also think the frequently used label Enemies-to-Lovers is misleading and probably serves mainly as a way to attract viewers. The supposed hostility between Xieyi and Li Zeliang is resolved surprisingly quickly and soon stops being the main driving force of the story. The feigned amnesia is only relevant for a short time, Zeliang sees through Xieyi relatively quickly, and both gradually come to understand the truth behind their past.
In reality, "Lie to Love*"is, for me, primarily a corporate crime drama that increasingly develops into a psychological thriller, with a carefully developed romance serving as its emotional backbone.
A Cleverly Structured Crime Plot
What I find particularly interesting is the structure of the crime plot. Zeliang and Xieyi initially pursue their own goals independently of each other, and an important source of suspense is the question of what each of them knows and what they are actually able to prove.
The story gradually expands from a relatively contained investigation into something much more complex and dangerous. What initially appears to be a fairly conventional corporate mystery becomes increasingly personal and psychologically disturbing. The threat facing the characters also changes in nature as the story progresses, which gives the second half of the drama a very different atmosphere from the beginning.
This gradual shift in genre is one of the things I enjoyed most about the series. The romance does not replace the main plot, nor does the crime story merely serve as an excuse for the couple to get together. Instead, the two elements develop alongside each other, with the criminal investigation providing the external tension and the relationship between the two leads providing the emotional core.
That makes the drama much more interesting to me than the "Enemies-to-Lovers" label would suggest.
A Love Story That Began Much Earlier
The romance also works differently from a typical Enemies-to-Lovers story. Zeliang fell in love with Xieyi before the tragic events that separated them and held on to his feelings for two years. He keeps mementos from the past and longs for the girl he met during a memorable night under the stars.
That night becomes a recurring motif throughout the series, because it represents the brief moment of happiness before tragedy changes both of their lives.
Zeliang's character also has a vulnerable side that is easy to overlook because he appears so controlled and self-assured on the outside. His experiences have left him with a deep sense of insecurity, and he struggles with the feeling that he is no longer the healthy, ordinary person he once was. This gives the character considerably more emotional depth than his polished exterior might initially suggest.
Li Zeliang – The Real Reason the Series Works
Zeliang is, for me, an unusually convincing character. As a partner and potential family man, he is a true dream man: responsible, straightforward, empathetic, romantic, caring, emotionally mature, loyal, and respectful.
Most importantly, he sees Xieyi as an independent person and treats her accordingly rather than viewing her as something he has a right to possess. At the same time, he is strategic and economically sensible as a businessman. He observes carefully, thinks long-term, and acts deliberately.
That combination makes him particularly appealing to me. His attractiveness as a romantic lead does not depend primarily on his appearance, but on his character and the way he treats the person he loves.
Luo Yunxi and the Deliberate Restraint of His Physical Attractiveness
This is also where I find the way Luo Yunxi is presented particularly interesting. I have the impression that his considerable physical attractiveness was deliberately not emphasized to the maximum in "Lie to Love".
Zeliang often wears very conservative suits or simple casual clothes, and his hair is occasionally styled in a way that makes him look noticeably less attractive. The drama is certainly aware that the character is handsome: Other women comment on his looks, and at one point he even tells his friend Oscar not to tell him that he looks good.
So his attractiveness is not ignored. It simply is not made the visual focus of the drama.
This is especially noticeable because other male characters are sometimes presented in more fashionable and visually striking clothing. If Luo Yunxi had constantly been dressed in perfectly tailored designer suits, many viewers would probably have talked about little else than how fantastic he looked.
In retrospect, I think this was a very clever decision. Zeliang is meant to be interesting because he is an interesting person, not simply because he looks fantastic. His attractiveness is obviously there, but it is not constantly put on display or used as a substitute for character development.
In "Lie to Love" I feel that I am watching Li Zeliang as a character, rather than simply watching Luo Yunxi the star.
A Pleasantly Unconventional Happy Ending
I also enjoyed the way the drama handles its conclusion. Without giving away the ending, I can say that the resolution feels satisfying and fits the tone of the series.
Rather than ending in excessive romantic melodrama, the drama allows its final moments to retain a certain lightness and humor. That was a pleasant surprise for me. The ending feels like a genuine reward for the characters and the audience without becoming overly sentimental.
Conclusion
"Lie to Love" is not a perfect or completely realistic drama. There are some minor inconsistencies and mistakes. But for me, its strengths clearly outweigh its weaknesses.
The series is engaging and relatively tightly written, with comparatively little unnecessary filler. The story does not constantly require the viewer to mentally repair or reinterpret it. The corporate crime plot works, the psychological thriller elements are genuinely suspenseful, and the romance is developed in enough depth to be emotionally convincing.
Above all, "Lie to Love" is, for me, "something different from what the usual marketing suggests". It is not a classic Enemies-to-Lovers drama, but a mixture of corporate crime drama, psychological thriller, and romance. The initial hostility between the two main characters is merely the hook that draws the viewer in. The story then develops into something much broader, involving investigation, evidence, manipulation, power, psychological pressure, and the increasingly personal nature of the threat facing the characters.
And that is exactly why I really like "Lie to Love" – in the best sense of the word. It may not be a masterpiece, and it is certainly not Luo Yunxi's most prestigious drama. But it is good, entertaining, and surprisingly suspenseful television, with compelling characters, a well-developed romance, and a satisfying conclusion.
For me, that is more than enough to make it a 9,5/10.

Overrated
Things I loved1 The remise I thought it'd be great and I loved the first few episodes. Unlike others I love series with a business setting and I was interested seeing the main couple in their work environment.
2 The ML.I think he's gorgeous and a decent actor. That said, this was my first series with him, and I have no idea if he was good only in this one.
Things I liked
1 The proposal scene. it was cute and a bit original. That's all the good I have to say about the romance. Mature romance shouldn't mean no romantic scenes, no decent kisses, no over the top declarations. This was lacking on every romantic aspect.
Things I disliked
1 The lack of chemistry. I'm surprised everyone talks about their chemistry. I didn't feel the same way at all. I had a small hope at first when the met, that it fizzled out very soon. They were better friends than couple. I have no idea what the issue was. Maybe the fact that they are very few cute, romantic scenes. I understand that this wasn't the usual cute romance, but romance implies romantic moments and I didn't feel most of them if any. It tried too hard to be witty and it ruined the whole romance thing.
2 The FL. At first I thought she was gorgeous and a decent actress. In the end, I thought she was a mediocre actress and the weird way she scrunched her face trying to play cute was distracting and not in a good way. To be honest, I had the impression that she was different from episode to episode. Very weird. Anyway, I thought she was quite conscious that she was acting and that didn't work for me.

1 The 2FL. I didn't care about her life at all and I wish she didn't take so much time with her stupid stories.
2 The character of the FL. Yes I'll put this in a different item because I thought she was a spineless, stupid pushover and I hate that. No reason to let anyone walk over her and that was so frustrating I started hating her. be a strong woman who can stand for herself. How can you be at your age that stupid mess? That coming from someone who isn't known for being assertive, but even I wouldn't accept being such a doormat. Did she change? Not in my opinion. I guess others disagree.
