ABURRIDO

The drama is as superficial as my critique

What in the low grade drama fest did I just watch! I did not know it was possible to dislike a male lead so much until watching the Forbidden flower. ML is weird, not even good looking (though cameraman tried his best to give him aesthetic angles) making every scene less tolerable, ml's acting is the weakest point. Music is like a different entity, failing completely. Ruonan as the fl delivers as the clingy infatuated youngster, ml looks too old for her. Even then , overall there is this bizarre low budget vibe in the series that is hard to reconcile with. Almost like a college project despite scenic elements.
The drama is as superficial as my critique. There is nothing to take from here. Whoever recommended this after speed and love needs to get a life!!

THE DUMB PRINCESS PINGYUE

I love the story especially the way it started and the whole dynamic and chemistry between ML and FL. The whole story surrounding Princess Pingyue/ Li Rong and Pei Wenxuan in the first 20 episodes is really engaging and the actors acting their roles are the best too! Its only towards the end from Ep 30 onwards that due the whole political angle the plot kinda loses its engagement. Especially the story surrounding Li Rong and Su Rongqing...

SPOILERS AHEAD -

My biggest beef is with the role or character of Li Rong why the hell is she so dumb...Especially with regards to Su Rongqing...Like girl he let you die in your previous life and conspired against your family, why do you still trust him more than your own husband Pei Wenxuan who tried everything in his previous and current lives to save you and do everything for you...She really does have princess syndrome...She thinks Su Rongqing is her knight in shining armor...Pei Wenxuan is a safe bet...And her brother is just a pawn for power to her...Like Ep 34-35 was utter nonsense when Su Rongqing tells her about what happened in the past and that it was the noble families who made her come across this alchemist whom she then later placed alongside her brother aka the King in the previous life...And the alchemist tried to kill the King and naturally the king thought that his own sister is trying to kill him so he poisoned her and killed her and the other noble families let it happen...And first instinct as a sister was to not to believe her brother's intensions but SU RONGQING...Like GURL WHAT??? ARE YOU FOR REAL??? She conveniently left out the part that it was the noble families manipulation that caused a misunderstanding and that's why it led to the sad outcome...And after Pei Wenxuan comes to rescue her you'd think after being in love and now being pregnant with his child her instinct would be to share and communicate everything with her beloved husband...NO...NO...She is hiding it all from him...And again trying to meet WHO? Yes you guessed that right...SU RONGQING?!?! At this point I was confused if the ML was Su Rongqing or Pei Wenxuan...Like Girly believes, and cares and trusts him more than anyone else even her own family...I've never seen such a dumb and irritating female lead ever since START UP...Like in this whole plot the real villain was actually LI RONG/ PRINCESS PINGYUE...

Like later thanks to Pei Wenxuan her misunderstanding gets cleared and she gets to know about her brothers side of the story and all the hardships he had faced and the reason for his cruelty which is honestly heartbreaking like the two characters he wanted to protect his mom and his sister were the very two ones who both directly and indirectly caused him all the misery and pain in the previous life and caused the death of his beloved wife Qin ZhenZhen...

Funny thing is even after Pei Wenxuan explains her everything after that too she is scared to meet her brother and still doesn't trust him like gurl when in the first few episodes you thought your husband aka Pei Wenxuan killed you...You were ready to kill him or take revenge on him and not marry him again...Same with your brother you lost trust in him...But when you though SU RONGQING killed you...Girlies reaction "Ohh I don't blame him, he suffered a lot, that was just the past him because of his family dying he did that, I would have done the same if i were in his shoes, the current him doesnt want me dead, i can help the current him not go down the same path...

LIKE GURL WHAT?!?!

The story should have been name "LI RONG X SU RONGQING AND THE OTHERS" cause that's exactly how the FL character behaved...

If not for her dumb character I would have loved this story a whole lot more...I watched this story mainly for Zhang Linghe...But my guy was sidelined but by this dumb female character...Honestly I have no issues with the actress she did a great job with her acting...Zhao Jin Mai is a great actress and her chemistry with Zhang Linghe is great...I have watched their work in OUR GENERATION...And they were great together...Its just whoever wrote and directed this story made the female lead so dumb that it just frustrated the shit out of me...

It's only in the last few episodes she seems to have some clarity and decides to protect her brother, mother and father...And all her other friends and supporters...But again her idea was to again fight alone and sacrifice herself i swear had it not been for Pei Wenxuan she actually would have died...He literally is the reason all the good characters are alive...Like my guy is actually super smart but doesn't boast about it...He's literally playing 8D Chess here...Like all the plans have worked out thanks to his wisdom otherwise had they followed the FL's ways the 2nd life would have ended up the same way as the first if not worse...

Thank god Zhang Linghe worked in Persuit of Jade that drama really let him shine in the best ways!!!

Other than the dumb female character and the plot holes she caused rest everything was honestly not that bad!

Jukkakukan no Satsujin or the The Decagon House Murders presents itself as a classic closed-circle mystery, drawing clear inspiration from traditional whodunit structures. Kinda seemed like a Jap version of Benoit Blanc. The story follows a group of university students placed in an isolated setting, where tension gradually builds as events unfold and suspicions shift from one person to another. At the same time we see our "detectives" trying to uncover the mystery from afar.
Take into account that it is based on a novel (and manga?) which means the characters seem very comic-like with individuals such as the nerd guy, the Daphne Blake girl, the timid girl and so on. Though I did enjoy the character portrayed by Aoki Munetaka.
The pacing is notably slow, and at times it struggles to maintain engagement. Scenes often linger longer than necessary, which can dilute the suspense rather than enhance it. To be honest I found myself even skipping a few scenes at the Decagon in favor of watching how the detectives will uncover the truth. Unfortunately, the same thing happened in the sequel which in my opinion could have easily been done in 5 episodes and not 8.
Visually, the series maintains a restrained style, focusing on the setting and mood rather than elaborate cinematography. The confined location works effectively to reinforce the sense of isolation, though it also contributes to a somewhat static visual experience.
Overall, the series offers a straightforward mystery experience that relies on familiar elements, leaving its impact largely dependent on how much the viewer appreciates this approach.

The ending of the drama was very bad.

The reason she broke up with the male lead 10 years ago was because of the female lead and the second male lead. After 10 years, the main characters met again and fell in love again. The main characters broke up again because of the female lead and the second lead. I did not like the character of the female lead here at all. The story progressed very well until the first half of the drama, but then something happened.
And speaking of the first male lead, he's just a jerk in this drama.😂

HEART-FLUTTERING CHEMISTRY

The storyline follows Ruan Yu, a full-time writer who finds herself in a legal battle after being accused of plagiarism. In a twist of fate, the intellectual property lawyer she hires is none other than Xu Huaisong, her high school crush and the real-life inspiration for the hero in her books. As they work to clear her name, old feelings resurface, and the 'fox and rabbit' dynamic between the calculating lawyer and the creative writer takes center stage.

Furthermore, let's be honest, Miles Wei in a well-tailored suit as a cold-on-the-outside, warm-on-the-inside lawyer is exactly what his fans want. He brings a grounded, mature energy to Xu Huaisong that makes the romance feel earned. One of the most praised aspects of the early episodes is the creative direction(like the video call scenes where the characters appear to be sitting right next to each other). It adds a modern, whimsical touch to the typical urban drama. Zheng He Hui Zi plays Ruan Yu with a great balance of vulnerability and wit. She isn't a damsel in distress; she's a professional fighting for her creative integrity, which makes her chemistry with Miles Wei much more balanced.

Moreover, the drama takes its time to let the 'separation' years ferment. If you prefer instant romance, the first few episodes focusing on the legal case and their reunion might feel a bit steady. There is a fair amount of talk about intellectual property law, though the show does a good job of keeping it relevant to the emotional stakes.

However, there are some slight cons in this drama, and one of them includes the female lead's lying arc and unfair judgment. Firstly, she spends a significant amount of time pretending she doesn't recognize Xu Huaisong from high school. This leads to some 'face-palm' moments where she has to lie to cover up her previous lies, which some viewers find more annoying than charming. Also, she was too quick to label Xu Huaisong as 'evil' or manipulative when misunderstandings arose, rather than looking at his consistent actions to help her. Another disadvantage is the subtitles, as they were either delayed or less polished on certain platforms compared to Viki or Netflix releases.

In conclusion, this drama is an unexpected gem of the 2026 spring season. It moves away from the 'silly' tropes of older rom-coms and gives us a mature, beautifully shot story about second chances.

decent world building in a show where second leads are keeping me hooked

i am on ep 11 and i am finding the track of the second leads(the Void Prince and the Void princess) really interesting. somehow i am not able to invest my interest fully in the Empyrean Prince and the Empyrean Consort.
however, I am liking the world building in the show--all four realms are shown nicely.
my only wonder is the over emphasis of violet/purple colours in the sets and clothes. does this have any symbolic significance?

Wasted Potential Behind a Strong Cast

Unveil Jade Wind is a detective drama with light romance, a strong focus on crime and mystery, and—unfortunately—weak character writing.

The show is very case-centered, leaving little room for romance. The cases themselves are actually interesting, and some even feel wholesome, but many of them drag. The pacing, especially at the beginning, is quite slow for a detective series, and there were moments where I honestly felt bored. It’s not the strongest start for a show in this genre, but I’m glad I stuck with it.

My biggest issue is the writing of the characters. The cast is amazing—honestly one of the main reasons people tuned in—but the script doesn’t do them justice at all. The characters feel like they only exist to move the cases forward, without any real depth or development.

Bai Lu is one of my favorite actresses, and I’ll watch anything she’s in, but she felt unusually dull here. That’s not on her—it’s the writing. Her character lacked substance, and it didn’t allow her to showcase her usual range. The only time I really felt her performance shine was toward the end, during her revenge arc. That’s when she finally felt like herself again.

Wang Xingyue also didn’t fully land for me. I like him a lot, but this type of “cute, innocent” character doesn’t suit him as much. He shines more in dominant, powerful roles with strong presence. Here, his character felt underwhelming, and again, the writing didn’t help. It didn’t give him enough to work with, so his performance didn’t stand out the way it usually does.

Also, this is like his third detective-style project in a row, and he even has another one coming up. It’s starting to feel repetitive. I honestly want to see him take on something different—maybe a stronger, more serious role, or even a general/leader-type character—because this genre is starting to feel overused for him.

Another issue I had was the dynamic between the leads. She’s supposed to be the detective, yet he’s the one solving most of the cases and figuring out the clues. That just didn’t make sense to me and felt like a poor writing choice. It would’ve been more logical to simply make him a detective.

Because the show is so episodic, it’s hard to really connect to the characters’ personal stories. Even when they try to give the leads emotional depth, it doesn’t hit as hard because the focus keeps going back to standalone cases. So overall, the emotional connection feels weak.

That said, there are definitely positives. The fight scenes were great, and the production quality is solid. I loved the costumes, especially seeing Bai Lu in a more “boyish” look—it was refreshing and different from her usual roles. The cinematography is also beautiful, and the OST is a standout—the opening track, in particular, is amazing.

The chemistry between Bai Lu and Wang Xingyue is another wasted opportunity. They clearly have natural chemistry, especially noticeable toward the end when their relationship develops, but the show never really gives it space to grow. It’s frustrating because you can see the potential, especially if you’ve watched their promotions or previous collaborations. At this point, they really deserve a proper romance drama together.

Overall, if you judge it purely as a detective show, it’s decent—just on the slower side. It’s not the best in the genre, and it’s definitely not memorable, but it’s still enjoyable. The ending wraps things up nicely, especially with how it gives closure to the victims, which I appreciated.

In the end, this drama feels like a case of wasted potential. With stronger writing and better pacing, it could’ve been something much better. Still, if you go in without high expectations—especially regarding the cast—it’s an enjoyable watch.

A love that withered, like the Green Plum Blossom | Greatest betrayal of all.

"I am the Empress. Here I am, sitting on the throne of the phoenix that you so desire. Therefore, any gift is your punishment, and any punishment is your gift." Empress Ruyi to Consort Jia

Wanna know how good this drama is? All I can say is, despite all the brutality and cruelty in this show, I only have good memories of it. Not because I disregard those atrocities, but because I was utterly captivated by Ula Nara Qingying (Ruyi)—the woman who kept her feet grounded and her conscience pure, no matter how hard the situation was or how high her position became. Her never-changing magnanimity lasted from the very start until the end.

I fully expected her to exact revenge, especially after her aunt, the late Empress Ula Nara, used her own death as a catalyst for her to vie for power. However, she never did. She truly believed that distancing herself from conflict would keep her safe. I even thought she had finally learned her lesson after being imprisoned in the Cold Palace for several years. I was excited to see her seek vengeance, but again, it never happened. Her values and integrity remained so unfazed that I was actually quite pissed off by how forgiving she was, constantly disregarding the schemes against her. Yet, as I continued watching, I realized it was because she never desired power or fame. She wasn't hungry for revenge; the only time she would make a move was if someone touched her loved ones. Her patience and tolerance are as vast as the universe. She is definitely the purest FL I have ever seen in a drama.

There are plenty of imperial consorts vying for the Emperor's favor, but she is the only one who never fights for his attention. Some may think it is because she knows he loves her, but for me, it is more than that. It is not because she is confident in his love, but rather because she fully trusts him—despite the many times he has disappointed her. This is proven by Ruyi's favorite phrase of his: "Do not worry."

That single sentence had been her assurance of his trust and affection; it is why, despite the multiple instances where he disappointed her, she kept holding on. She trusted him and his love, just as she expected him to trust hers. Consequently, the moment he stopped trusting her and began doubting her—probing her continuously—was the moment she finally lost her trust in him as well. The man she loved in her youth is no longer the person she is with now. This became the breaking point of her unconditional trust for the person she once loved and wished to spend her entire life with.

In retrospect, the most heartbreaking element of this story is knowing that the young man she once dearly loved, and sacrificed so much for, had changed. Despite her faithfulness and utter commitment, he still chose to doubt her and trust others more than her. It was truly agonizing and enraging to watch a once lovely, cheerful woman get depleted to the very brim by a single man. It is a stark reminder of how fickle men can be and a portrait of what the ultimate betrayal looks like.

Another sad realization while watching this show was how much pent-up emotion, resentment, and how many grudges Ruyi must have accumulated over the years of being married to Hongli. She stripped herself of jealousy and greed, striving instead to be considerate, compassionate, and tolerant. Despite constantly being on the receiving end of attacks from the harem, she remained completely devoted to him—only for him to doubt her. She must have been in so much pain that, eventually, all she wanted was to break free.

Initially, I assumed it was a coincidence that the scenes I found most compelling involved Ruyi’s growing disillusionment with Hongli. However, by the end of the drama, I realized I loved those moments because they were the only times she genuinely expressed her emotions. It was her moment of truth: realizing that nothing is permanent and accepting that some things are bound to change...sadly, even his trust and love for her.

NOTE: Nothing compares to the satisfaction of seeing Ruyi looking so done with Hongli. Every time she vindicates herself, I can almost taste the disgust and dissatisfaction she wants to slap him with.

This review would be much longer if I were to write out my personal thoughts on each of the scenes I loved about this show. So, let me just list them instead.

×× My absolute favorite scene was in Episode 81, when Hongli threatened to depose Ruyi and she shot back: "I don't need you to depose me. I am sick and tired of being this Empress of yours. I don't want to endure it anymore." Then she proceeded to cut her hair. Dang! Peak drama! The most satisfying scene of the entire series.

×× I find it fascinating how imperial consorts facing an untimely death—whether by poison or suicide—are almost always depicted in their full ceremonial dress. It serves as a final display of dignity and power, even at the very end.

×× Another scene I liked the most was the consorts' daily greetings to the Empress. I find so much enjoyment in seeing them constantly dissing each other. it feels like being in a cockfight arena, waiting to see who lands the heaviest blow and who ultimately emerges victorious. Hahaha!

×× The most unexpected, yet most precious, aspect of this story is the unbreakable bond between Hailan and Ruyi. I deeply admire their mutual devotion and loyalty. It is truly one of the most beautiful friendships depicted in an imperial harem drama.

There are plenty more, but this is getting so long. To cut it short, let me just mention one of my most hated and most aggravating scenes in this show.

In Episode 72, when Emperor Qianlong (Hongli) said that while Ruyi was his childhood sweetheart, Consort Rong was his 'love at first sight.' He argued that because he met her as an adult, his emotions were harder to control. Man! I wanted to slap him then and there. Left and right, multiple times. He truly was the worst!

Lastly, the ending. I totally admire and look up to Ruyi for ending her relationship with Hongli so thoroughly and without reservation. I love how she blatantly declined his offer to be Empress again and kept her terminal illness a secret from everyone. Also, while I appreciate that Hongli eventually understood Ruyi’s wish to no longer be Empress, I hated that he allowed her to be buried without the posthumous titles she deserved, even going so far as to destroy all records of her existence. I understand why he did it, but I still hate it.

Anyway, kudos to him for finally giving her a rest and lowkey letting her go by not being buried with him. She cut ties, and I am glad he understood.

"When people's minds turn to evil, even dogs are greater in character." Consort Jia (coming from her? lol)

P.S. I feel so heartbroken for Ling Yunche. Wouldn't it have been wonderful if he’d stayed by Ruyi's side until the end? Huhu! Here I go again, letting my imagination run wild with "what if" scenarios!

Story - 10, Absolute perfection! It was well-paced, compact, and a lengthy yet extremely worthy drama. This is one of those series that made me realize the length or number of episodes doesn't equate to quality. I was never bored, and I even felt heartbroken when there were only a couple of episodes left. I wish C-dramaland would allow creators to go "all out" again without restricting episode counts, which often ruins stories by forcing scenes to be shortened into incoherent pieces.

Acting/Cast - 10, An ensemble of excellence. The execution from every single actor is flawless. The lines are delivered eloquently and articulately, emphasizing the weight and deep meaning of the script. It is a cast you could not improve upon—a total powerhouse. Kudos to Zhou Xun above everyone else. I was amazed by her absolute, unbreakable composure. Everything from her movements to her facial expressions shouted "calm and collected." It was very fitting for her character.

Music - 10, I love them all! The entire soundtrack radiates heartbreak caused by betrayal, disappointment, and deception, which perfectly complements and elevates the drama’s emotions.

Rewatch Value - 10, This is one of the few shows I wouldn't mind rewatching if someone asked me to—even though I just finished it and have a mountain of other C-dramas waiting for me.

Overall - 10, This is a peak masterpiece! It’s the ultimate drama—one I’ve sincerely loved and enjoyed more than anything else in years. Each episode was masterfully directed and crafted to perfection. I highly recommend this show to everyone and would advise people not to be intimidated or daunted by the number of episodes.

Sweet Mutual Crush to Mutual Love Story ?

OMG, okay, I just finished it and I am LITERALLY screaming! 😭💖 It is so cute, it gave me actual butterflies!
Here is why you HAVE to watch it, from a totally obsessed perspective:
• The "Long-Time Crush" Vibes: Ruan Yu (FL) is writing a novel based on her high school crush, and then—PLOT TWIST—she hires that same dude, Xu Huaisong (ML), to be her lawyer! It's that "I knew you when we were kids" energy but they are adults now! 👩‍❤️‍👨
• Miles Wei is TOO MUCH: Okay, I know dude is famous for being a "cold CEO," but here? He is so gentle and smart. The way he looks at her? 🫠 He is like a protective puppy, not just a boss.
(BTW, love love love Miles Wei! I swear dude is THE best for romantic ML roles 😭😭
• Hilarious Besties: The two best friend dudes are actually comedic genius. Their fast-talking banter in the background is the best part of some episodes, LOL. 🤣
• Visuals & Vibe: It’s super "fluffy" and lighthearted. Perfect for when you want a break from super dramatic stuff. Plus, the scenes with the "video call imagination" are actually pretty clever! 📱🎆
Cons? Ugh, the mid episodes dragged a bit with the "I’m not telling you I remember you" thing! I was literally shouting "JUST TELL HER!" at my screen! 😤 But it's worth it for the fluff later 💋😘
Overall Rating: 9/10 Butterflies 🦋—definitely watching again just for the cute scenes. Go watch it!!

Definitely would rewatch

A great drama, I love the cast, songs and the story so much!
I went through all emotions watching this, I laughed, cried, giggled, excited, sad, amused, surprised and frustrated! It’s really well done, amazing drama, definitely recommend .
The ML and FL have really good chemistry, the plot is also good.
The last too episodes felt like it dragged a little, but otherwise the whole drama was great.
I really like Zhou Ye’s acting, some people say that she’s too girlish for this role, but I think she portrayed it super well.
I really liked the supporting casts too.
It’s in my top 5 beat Cdramas I’ve watched !

Tone Deaf

If Joseon had actually survived and PROGRESSED into a constitutional monarchy, it would realistically look closer to modern monarchies today: symbolic power, streamlined nobility, and institutions shaped by industrialization, capitalism, and globalization.

But what we’re getting feels like straight-up Joseon dropped into the present day.

Historically, aristocracies don’t stay intact like that. Most lose power, titles, or go broke and end up marrying into wealth just to survive (dollar princess). Here though? The hierarchy is completely untouched by time. You still have 양반 functioning like a fixed class, which makes no sense in a modern system where positions tied to governance aren’t supposed to be permanent or hereditary like that. So that comes off as a major plot hole.

With no sense of transition, no adaptation, no progression on how the monarchy arrives to be at this point, just a copy-paste of then Joseon into the modern era font, the whole world building feels underdeveloped.

Then you pile on stuff like:
- A chaebol casually talking about ruining a celebrity over a contract
- A public holiday for a prince’s birthday
- General public fangirling over royals, complete with lightsticks and banners
- Massive royal estates funded by taxpayers

The story fails to make me sympathize with these ultra-privileged characters dealing with personal angst. At this point, it really stops me from feeling mindlessly entertained and just comes off as tone-deaf and entitled.

For now, I'll give it 5/10, as more episodes drop, I will change it for better or worse.

I’m a big fan of Net, and since I really enjoyed the NetJJ pairing in *The Prince*, I went into this show with high expectations. While Net continues to deliver, I’m unfortunately not feeling the same level of chemistry this time around.

The co-lead performs reasonably well in chaotic or comedic scenes, but the emotional and romantic moments lack depth and impact. The spark between him and Net just isn’t there yet, which makes the relationship feel less convincing. Latte, too, comes across as quite expressionless, which further affects the emotional engagement.

At this point, Net and the supporting characters are largely carrying the show. On the positive side, the visuals are appealing and the cast looks great on screen. However, the cinematography itself feels fairly average and doesn’t elevate the storytelling as much as it could.

Despite these drawbacks, I’ll keep watching for Net and hope the chemistry improves as the story progresses. Fingers crossed the upcoming episodes bring stronger emotional moments and better character dynamics.

Perfect high School Gl

I love this short film sm. It's fairly realistic portrayal of highschool couples. The ending got me ugly sobbing. I really loved them sm😭😭😭 the only complaint I have is that it's short. But even so I feel like it was perfect for this show. Short and sweet while it lasted just like the couples, with a bitter aftertaste.

This show portrays how mistreatment of queer couples/ppl and could be also trying to portray
misogyny in society which also interlinks w the mistreatment of queer individuals (this is just my thoughts on it, I tend to overthink stuff often maybe this was not even a point in the show but I feel like there are hints to it in the show)

I want more

I love watching short dramas but every now and then I find one that makes me wish it had so much more screentime.

The Maid is one of those short dramas. The story is packed with potential and, although I truly like the short version of it, I wish the story could have been told by using a full-blown drama script. As it is, the story feels a little too fast-paced and I didn't have enough time to really connect with the characters or believe they had actually fallen in love. It just suddenly was that way and I had to go-with-the-flow. Too bad, because there are so many great romance short dramas out there that do show the progression of falling in love. Even in the span of 20 episodes with 10 minutes per episode.

This one fell short in that department. BUT I FREAKING LOVED THE REVENGE PLOT. It was so well done. I binged the entire show within the span of one day.

Do I recommend? Yes. It's fun to watch and sometimes it can even be a litle thrilling.
