A Revenge Plot Ruined by Its Own Romance

My 2 Cents on Payback:

I finally finished Payback after starting it mostly due to FOMO, and I’m honestly baffled by the hypetrain surrounding this show.
A revenge plot is usually right up my alley, but the central romance completely ruined the execution. The biggest issue? Director Arthur. He is a terribly written character: flat, dimensional as a sheet of paper, and deeply unlikable. Instead of coming off as a compelling romantic lead, his instant obsession with Sun felt pushy, creepy, and boundary-crossing. The idea that a high-powered CEO has endless time to persistently harass a random stranger, all while harboring a weirdly convenient fixation on his mysterious "pink bunny" strains logic beyond belief.
The performance didn't help either. Arthur’s acting fell completely flat, and while Sun was a much better character with actual depth and motivation, even he struggled to carry certain scenes. Their chemistry was thoroughly off, and throwing graphic NC scenes at the audience can't magically fix a lack of genuine spark.
Between Arthur's terrible characterization and the weak acting, I never felt a shred of true love from them. it came off as a sick, toxic dynamic rather than genuine romance.
What makes this so frustrating is that the glimpse into the toxic side of the entertainment industry was genuinely fascinating. I would’ve loved to see the show highlight that dark plot instead of abandoning it for cheap romance.

Ironically, the side characters carried the show. Sun, Sky, and the manager made a fantastic, entertaining trio, and I would’ve happily traded the predictable, forced romance for more of their dynamic. To top it off, the finale was a rushed mess trying to tie up loose ends way too quickly.

Verdict: Decent production value and a premise with potential, but plagued by weak acting and an insufferable lead. If you’re looking for strong chemistry or an intricate plot, this one will leave you frustrated.

Feel good drama?

Actually I had first watched the love u give me and then only I watched this.
Tbh I didn't wanna watch this but then eventually I did and I don't regret it
I enjoyed each ep and it was nice and comforting....light hearted one !
Even tho there were a lot of cliches...I think this is worth watching
And for those like me who watched the love u give me, defff watch this as we were not able to see much of Xin Qi and Min Hui's romance before Quanquan🤭
This fulfills that and made me feel that the love u give me is a spin off of once we get married!!

Gripping, unsettling and frankly just a hell of a good time!

I absolutely loved Payback. It’s not often that a BL manages to give me a romance I can root for while also delivering a story that genuinely keeps me invested.

The way they introduced the story and Sun as the main character in the first episode immediately put you on his side, and he remained the emotional anchor throughout the entire series. Despite his dark past, there was an innocent naivety to him that made him feel like a kid who had to grow up too fast because of his circumstances. It’s not easy to make the audience care about a main character who barely speaks and has such a cold exterior, but Min did a fantastic job using his microexpressions to show Sun’s pain, vulnerability, and the small moments of softness underneath. Sometimes you could literally see his eyes become darker, and seeing the hurt he carried honestly broke my heart more than once.

Jay, for lack of a better word, was aura farming throughout the entire story, and rightfully so. Toptap carries himself with such confidence and authority that it’s easy to forget how young he actually is. One thing that made their relationship work so well for me is that Jay’s own pain allowed him to see through Sun and understand him in a way others couldn’t. He knows when to push and when to give him space, but considering everything he has lost, he was never going to simply stand by and watch Sun continue down a self-destructive path.

I also appreciate that the show never tried to pretend Jay and Sun aren’t morally gray characters. Jay can be hypocritical at times, bending his own morals when it benefits him, while Sun is still influenced by the shadows of his past because you don’t change who you are overnight. Their relationship worked so well for me because they were both broken in their own ways, and I loved watching them slowly become a safe place for each other. Toptap and Min play off each other effortlessly, creating not only incredible tension but also genuinely tender moments between them.

I loved that the show took the time to flesh out the side characters while also showing Sun slowly opening up and forming connections with them. Sky and Kajorn were two of the highlights for me. They brought some of the best comedy in the series while also delivering genuinely heartfelt moments. It’s important to show that a main character’s growth isn’t driven only by their romantic relationship, so I really appreciated the time they gave these bonds.

While I sometimes had to suspend my disbelief, I was having so much fun with the show that it never really bothered me until the final episode, where they pushed it a little too far. The ending wasn’t as cathartic as I had hoped and felt slightly rushed. I also can’t deny that there were some plot holes. It felt a little like a checklist of characters and plot points that needed to be wrapped up. That being said, revenge is rarely as satisfying as people imagine it will be, so I can’t say the ending completely failed to fit the story.

Despite these flaws, I personally loved this show. The dark and gritty tone, the characters, the music, and the overall atmosphere all worked incredibly well for me. Payback did something that not a lot of BLs manage to do: it kept me invested in the romance, allowed me to connect deeply with several of its characters, and still made me genuinely care about the main story. It reminded me how much I crave BLs with more serious and thought-provoking stories, and I honestly had a blast watching it.

Timeless Korean Romance — Must Watch in Hindi Dubbed

True Beauty is one of those rare Korean dramas that
stays with you long after you finish watching. Based
on the hugely popular webtoon, this drama perfectly
captures the struggles of a girl who hides behind
makeup and the beautiful love story that unfolds when
someone sees her true self.

The lead performances are absolutely stunning and the
chemistry between the main couple is some of the best
I have seen in any Korean drama. Every episode balances
romance, comedy and emotional depth perfectly.

The drama triangle is handled with sensitivity and
maturity which is rare and refreshing. You genuinely
feel for all three main characters throughout the story.

For Indian and Pakistani fans this is available in
excellent Hindi dubbed format making it completely
accessible and enjoyable. The dubbing quality does
full justice to the emotional moments of the story.

An absolute classic Korean drama that every fan of
the genre must watch. Highly recommended without
any reservation.

Thrilling Action School Drama — Perfect Hindi Dubbed Watch

Study Group is one of the most action packed and
entertaining Korean school dramas I have watched in
recent years. The story follows a student who forms
a study group but the action and fight sequences make
this completely unique compared to typical school dramas.

The lead character is incredibly compelling and the
supporting cast adds depth and humor at all the right
moments. The action choreography is genuinely impressive
for a drama production.

Indian and Pakistani audiences can enjoy this in Hindi
dubbed format which is widely available and of excellent
quality. The dubbing captures the energy and excitement
of the original perfectly.

If you enjoy action Korean dramas mixed with school
life comedy and drama this is absolutely essential
watching. One of the most rewatchable Korean dramas
in recent memory.

Quirky but still a decent watch

To be fair I am not a huge fan of comedy, over the top or especially quirky, but started it anyway partly thanks to The Butterflys review and heads up and partly thanks to the leads as well as sides talented, some more good looking than others and very experienced. More or less a guarantee for high quality acting even if the story will be off.

I enjoyed watching the contrast between the characters, most of their interactions and while I do admit there were some (a lot of eye rolling moments) there are very few characters that I found truly annoying from start to finish but several characters I wanted to see more of.

This is in no way a masterpiece and there is quite a bit that does not really make any sense but somehow that feels intentional so it works. A lot is under developed, rushed and I am pretty sure they put in the work for a second season.

P.s. It has several really, really good umbrella scenes for the umbrella fan

SO MUCH FUN!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!

This season had me cackling and jumping—dare I say, more than season 1. EmiBonnie slayed as always. I am so smitten with the WilliamEst roles that it made me a little sad seeing Rome take over Arseni's company.

And THE CAMEOS??? OH MY GOD!!
TayNew hilariously matched the freak, but JimmySea?? NO WAY!!! Jimmy's disciplined look had me rolling. JuniorMark were the only ones who gave me a familiar vibe similar to Peach and Thee. Mark is nearly perfect for Phuwin's Peach role, in a font. And I think Junior could actually try pulling off Thee's role, lol. >< It's so fun to imagine!

Ultimately, I ENJOYED THIS SO MUCH!!

feelings

Only 2 episodes in, and I’m already completely hooked the show hits the ground running, expertly balancing the everyday chaos of family life with intense, high-stakes assassination missions.

i love the
Killer Vibes: The main lead gives off strong Kill Boksoon and My Name energy—she’s cold and lethal when on a mission, but switching back to mom mode adds a hilarious, My Secret Terrius flavor to the show.

Tension from the Start: Even in just two episodes, the dynamic inside her home already feels super tense. It gives off major Flower of Evil vibes, making you wonder how long she can keep her identity hidden from her family.

Love in sync

It was soo much better than I expected, after some reviews I thought that maybe it will be at best 7/10 but I liked it a lot - finally something I binged watched after so long time (not only because I enjoyed it so much, but I finally had some free time to do it). There is perfect amount of episoded (side note: I am fun of 8 episodes format, 12 also works, but at the moment I feel like 16 is too much) and they were not too long, none episode is 60 minutes long (side note #2: I also prefer shorter episodes, longer than 60 minutes is too long; side note #3 I would love if in this case episodes were really 60 minutes long).
Characters were easy to like, I literally love main couple, chemistry was soo good and they were so cute. I also like how they show how toxic is entertainment industy (not only Korean, in general, if someone believes that Hollywood is any better then they are simply naive) and how easy it is to destroy careers with false accusations.
I was so happy to finally see Kang Min Ah as a main character, especially when she was so different comparing to At a distance spring is green. She acted amazing, it was not an easy role.
Same with L, it was nice to watch something with him again, I could not believe that it was the same actor who played in Angel, Last mission love - I hardly believe that different hair make it harder xd.
I also liked a plot - eventhough many people point out there was any, maybe it was a little messy but at the same time it made perfect sense, her life was messy after all false scandals. I also liked the way they shared emotions, it remined me of Link:eat, love, kill.
To sum up: I loved it, I could totally watch more with them and I regret that it is finished. I really reccommend it if you like any actor from it or want something easy and short to watch.

Not bad

I don't think this drama is that bad. After seeing the 6.9 rating, I almost decided to skip it because I expected it to be disappointing. Thankfully, I gave it a chance, and I'm really glad I did. While I wouldn't call it an outstanding or unforgettable drama, it's definitely much better than the rating suggests.

The story isn't perfect, and there are moments where the pacing slows down or some scenes feel a little predictable. However, the overall plot is still engaging enough to keep me interested until the end. I never felt like dropping it because I genuinely wanted to know what would happen next. The characters also grew on me as the story progressed, and I found myself becoming emotionally invested in several of them.

The acting was decent overall. Some performances stood out more than others, but everyone did a good enough job to make the story believable. The chemistry between the main leads was enjoyable to watch, and there were quite a few heartwarming and emotional moments that made the drama worthwhile. The cinematography and soundtrack also complemented the mood of the story nicely.

Of course, this drama isn't flawless. There are a few clichés and certain plot developments could have been written better. If you're expecting a masterpiece or something groundbreaking, you might be disappointed. But if you're simply looking for an entertaining drama that is easy to watch and keeps you engaged, this one does the job very well.

In my opinion, a 6.9 rating is unfairly low. Is it a perfect 10? Definitely not. But I honestly think it deserves something around 7.5 to 8.0 because it's far more enjoyable than I expected. Sometimes ratings don't tell the whole story, and this drama is a good example of that. I'm really glad I watched it despite the low rating, and I don't regret spending my time on it. If you're hesitant because of the score, I'd say give it a chance, you might end up enjoying it more than you expect.

Enjoyy..

Hou Ming Hao doesn’t disappoint but…

I’m a huge Hou Ming Hao fan after watching him in Love in the Clouds. I’ve struggled to find another series since that matches his styling and chemistry with FL since.

Hou Ming Hao never disappoints and led this series despite I feel not great direction and poor production value - their outfits seemed very garish looking (cheap polyester feel). The soundtrack sang by him is excellent.

My first exposure to Ai Mi was when she was in The Double. She’s a good actress and believable in her role. However the chemistry between ML and FL is lacking - I feel largely because this drama only had 28 episodes and felt somewhat rushed. At the same time there was a lot of controversy given her age so no affectionate scenes which is understandable.

This drama had more potential I feel as there were good actors and actresses. I also look forward to seeing more of Ai Mi in lead roles.
