A random Xianxia with a bad first impression— it's important you give it a second chance

THIS HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE XIANXIA! Even though I haven't watched that many xianxia dramas yet, I already have my own standards— and this drama managed to meet, even exceed, almost all of them. What made it even more compelling is how it covered many tropes and actually executed them well, which made this drama more immersive and captivating.

At first, I found the camerawork and color grading a bit off-putting. But as the story goes, it genuinely grew on me. The unconventional camerawork and odd angles ended up adding charm— making the drama feel more goofy, light, and even whimsical at times. While the story started slow— which I understand might not work for everyone— the payoff is absolutely worth it and satisfying. The buildup is intentional and the development that follows after makes everything feel satisfying and earned.

One of the drama's greatest strengths is the writing. I love how the writers carefully crafted the plot, with clear intention behind every arc and character. The characters don't exist merely to serve the plot— instead they drive it forward. That alone made it so easy for me to get invested and attached to the story.

And speaking of characters, I was genuinely surprised by how attached I became to almost all of them with the exemption of the villains— I absolutely don't have any sympathy left for them despite their backstories as all of them decided to be evil and was remorseful until the end. Even side characters with limited screen time left an impact. Grandma, for instance, made Tianyao feel more human and vulnerable— her death truly hit me all while feeling more connected to Tianyao. Then there are Xiange and Qianshuo, Xiaoyan and Zhuli, the elves (especially Yun), Mr. Yan, Chenyi and Xuelin, even Musheng— each of them contributed meaningfully to the story. I initially thought they are merely side characters who will leave the story after, but I am so glad that they were also given their own short arcs. It added depth and made their presence feel purposeful to me, leaving me more attached with them.

Xiaosheng, in particular, stood out to me. I truly loved his character. His fears and insecurities were explored so well, making his growth more convincing and emotional for me. The moment he regained his true effigy, it felt freeing— not just for him, but also to me as a viewer. I am especially glad his character wasn't reduced to a mere love triangle device or a villain in the end because he truly was more than that.

The Chenxing Mountain arc also deserves praise— Zichen and Ziyue who supported Yanhui throughout. Most especially, Master Lingxiao. He wasn't only Yanhui's master— he became a father figure to her. Their storyline was deeply emotional and while it broke my heart, it also played a crucial role in Yanhui's development in the end. (However I really would like it more if he didn't really die)

And at the core of everything is Yanhui and Tianyao. Their individual growth and shared journey were handled beautifully. Tianyao may come off as cold and stoic, but beneath that is someone deeply kind and shaped by trauma. His actions always felt grounded in his past— they were never out of character or forced. Meanwhile, Yanhui is straightforward, resilient, and true to herself. What I love most about her is that she faces everything head-on without being reckless or unreasonable— just as Tianyao saw her. She carries herself with compassion, self-control, and strength.

Their relationship wasn’t perfect— and that’s exactly why it worked. Tianyao’s trauma initially hindered their growth and even hurt Yanhui, but the angst that came from it was so well-executed. I’m not a fan of repetitive miscommunication, but here, the conflict felt justified and rooted in their personalities. Even though they went through multiple breakups, each one was different and contributed to their development. Every resolution strengthened their trust and love for each other. They always came back stronger. What made their dynamic even more powerful is how they supported each other in their darkest moments. Yanhui helped Tianyao confront his past and let go of his hatred. And when Yanhui found herself consumed by that same darkness, Tianyao never left her— he guided her back to the light. That mutual growth and unwavering support made their love story feel deeply earned. And of course, the chemistry? Absolutely top-notch. Zhou Ye and Hou Minghao need another project together so bad.

The drama was also very structured in its world-building and power scaling. The fight scenes were consistently well-executed. I was absolutely thinking that there's more to anticipate because there's still 2 more episodes left, yet just like that it was all gone? I just knew that there's something more. Though I was already thinking, had it happened to be the last fight, I will actually be so disappointed because it was underwhelming. And I am glad that the drama didn't really let me down. The buildup was already great— from Suying to Dark Phantom all along— the stakes kept rising and the final confrontation delivered. I appreciate how the drama wasn't afraid to raise the stakes and makes the risks feel real— that made the drama even more compelling.

If there’s one thing that slightly fell short for me, it would be the ending. It felt a bit underwhelming, especially considering how crucial it was. While I’m happy it was a happy ending, the reunion felt too short, and certain aspects weren’t fully explained. However, considering the 40-episode limit and censorship constraints (especially with the change from reincarnation to resurrection), I can understand why it turned out that way. Even so, it was still a decent conclusion and I am pretty biased— so long that my Yanhui and Tianyao got their happy ending, I am happy.

Overall, this drama stands out because of how well-executed its events are, as well as the characters' depth and story. Nothing felt forced or like a mere plot device— it always felt like the characters were in control of their own story. I became deeply attached to them, and that’s something a lot of dramas fell short of. Despite its heavier moments, the drama maintains a light, humorous, and wholesome tone. I genuinely can’t count how many times I found myself smiling while watching. This is definitely something I'd rewatch again sometime. I really love this drama a lot and I hope this gets more recognition and hype it deserves. Definitely a masterpiece!

Not very good

I was very curious about this one, because you hear so much about it, but i was quite dissapointed. The story was ok but also anoyed me.
The production had some bad moments like abrubtly cut off scenes.
The visuals and music were good.

The acting was ok, but not great! And the lead actress really anoyed me so much! Her lack of diversity in emotions, she was good in crying and pouting. But there was too much pouting going on, even in scenes that didn't need it. And she wasn't able to show emotions like love. Her face went blank in romantic moments and even during the kisses. If you can call that kisses, it were just dead kisses. Just pressing lips together and not in a good way. I have seen just lip pressing kisses that looked quite good, but not here.

Nothing Good To Say

Just skip this one, not worth it at all.

The story doesn't make sense, it's all over the place and honestly annoyed me. I don't even get the title of the drama, the cat was lowkey unnessecary to the plot. And why are we playing this hard to get Thian?! Only to keep this story going cause there was nothing else to do with it.

Acting was also meh to me. The situations seemed really fake and unnatural, chemistry was off and the dialogue... quite odd.
The voice audio gets overshadowed by annoying sound effects, music and is in general really quiet. In one scene the voice audio is basically gone, don't know what happend there.

In conclusion don't watch it. Waste of time, the only nice I can say is that it ended fast.

It was an emotional, beautiful, natural, playful, hilarious and a very sweet drama. I thoroughly enjoyed being with the main leads in their journey, sipping my cuppa leisurely, without skipping a single scene., thereby appreciating the little nuances and details which I would have otherwise missed. It was calming and healing for me.
The dialogues, OST, visuals, bgm everything fitted nicely with the story.
The second couple were good too. I'm so pleased that they had a good ending too.
Li Shi Can! As much as I felt annoyed with him in those few episodes in Shenao, in the latter episodes I began to warm up to him😭😭. In fact I enjoyed the comedy he provided with Xu Huaisong.
Editor Chen was a surprise 😂
The cute highschoolers, the Ruan family, Xu family, the lawyer colleagues, Sun Miaohan and the rest of the supporting cast 💖

This drama is simple and delivers what it is supposed to, that is, mutual secret crush transitioning to mutual love through deep understanding , trust, shared vulnerabilities, communication.
No less than 10/10
Will definitely be in my rewatch list and the place to go to when I need that extra tlc

Recommended for romance drama lovers.
Not for people who like intense stories, complicated plots, multiple plot twists, toxic relationships.
Definitely not for those who critically appraise C dramas like a research paper 🤣🤣

China and uncensored bls is a blessing

Came across Sammy's Children's Day by total accident. Went into this completely blind. Did not expect to be left mouth hanging by the end of the first episode. The series is everything I'd wish for. Handsome characters, amazing plot and an equally mesmerizing ost. The story is set in the 1980s, which is quite rare for most bls these days. The triads and the the entire gang setting allows for a suspenseful atmosphere. The show does have its moments of shortcomings like the dubbing, which can be ignored for the most part. The show definitely deserves more attention and praise. Definitely would recommend.

S2 of exciting game show that will put your brain on fire in a very entertaining way !!!

Exactly like in Season 1, the concept of this TV show features teams of students from different universities that face each other around games requiring a lot of brain power. Once again, the showrunner managed to have a nice variety of challenges and rythm all throughout the length of the show with of course, some games being more exciting than others.

The cast was really good : once again, full of genius...Maybe even more impressive than in Season 1. The production also improved a bit the set up of the games, despite the budget seemingly still quite limited. My only nitpicking is that some games were set up but not all results / solution shown. It might have been a sensible production show to keep a good pacing but it was a tad frustrating when it happened.

I would recommend this to people that love to watch skilled people, full of talents, compete with each other. It is a very gripping show that might take you on a binge watch that will fry your brain.

Best bl of the year??

I cannot stress enough on how much I was looking forward to this series since the pilot dropped and guess what, it DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. Trust me I've never been this hooked over a series before. Every week has been a painful wait for another episode to drop only to mope in despair for the rest of the week. Duang With You is THAT series. I honestly would've never expected that I'd like characters who acts all cute and whiny (I find this really cringe) but Duang seems to be an expection. The show does have its cringy moments. Like the second leads, Otto, speaking English (I just couldn't 💀) but the storyline and everything else makes up for it. I love how Qin, despite being portrayed as a stoic, reserved character, still manages to hold proper communication with Duang who overthinks a lot. Which is understandable especially when Qin seemed to barely show any interest in Duang in the beginning. After they talked and cleared up the misunderstanding, Qin seems to be putting more effort into them and the fact that he's clear in what he wants and feels for Duang is so refreshing. I can't believe the series is ending soon. It has been a wonderful few months of constant looking forward to. Whoever watches this after it's done airing is super lucky!

Junior Mark ate as usual

I honestly don't get why so many people dislike this series. My Romance Scammer has been like a breath of fresh air for me. Junior Mark have done a phenomenal job and especially Mark, I just love him as Pai. P10L made Junior Mark a memorable duo and I love that MRS does the same. Junior absolutely slays the chaotic, funny character in both the series and Mark being the stoic, stren one in My Romance Scammer is great. Honestly can't see anyone else playing the role of Pai as good as Mark. Also, can't forget to mention Ohmpoon. Their story was chaotic from the beginning and I loved every second of it. Definitely a must watch.

Despite interesting set up and idol context, underwhelming

This drama focus on a defense attorney that find herselves defending her favorite idol accused of murder. I loved watching Kim Jae Yeong acting in this : he is super hot and credible in portraying the brutal downfall of an idol. I also enjoyed all the tidbits of idol life and fan experiences that were highlighted through the series. I even wish there would have been more of it because it was the most interesting part.

Other than that, I felt the investigation was super empty, with everybody being dumb just for the sake of dragging the plot. The legal aspect was very minor making the trials feel very superficial. At the end the resolution felt half-backed with not much legal work but rather luck...Writing was poor overall with male lead making dumb choices and his touching moments were not enough to not feel just frustrating. The female lead was smarter but her dialogs were very uninspired. If I'm honest, I found the acting quite average for most of the cast. It is probably due to the scenario, but despite finding the male lead very hot and convincing for some scenes, the chemistry with the female lead felt limited for the romance.

The production value (directing, making, effects...) felt super cheap for a South Korean production and the soundtrack was also very mid...For a show set up in the context of idol, I expected much more, at least from the music.

I would not recommend this to people unless you are a fan of Kim Jae Yeong or another cast member. The legal aspect of the series is pretty poorly executed and the romance is also rather average. The series felt very slow with not much happening. The most interesting part of the series for me was the Entertainement industry set up but it was not exploited enough.

Simple, Self-Aware, and Entertaining

It sat in my watchlist for a month because I was convinced I’d hate it - too tropey, too cheesy, and ultimately boring. Turns out, I was only half right. It is tropey and cheesy. But boring? Not quite. Surprisingly, no.

Story

Our leads are competitive editors in a production house. It’s evident to us that the ML has a crush on FL, but she is oblivious. She subscribes to an AI immersive experience, where she can date - albeit virtually - these fictional characters. Eventually, actual reality clashes with the virtual one. She realizes that she needs a real connections to be happy. The leads get together.

Presentation

There’s nothing particularly deep or layered here, but the show doesn’t pretend otherwise. The virtual dating concept is playful - and uncomfortably plausible. What works is the consistency in tone. From the very first episode, the show commits to being bright, self-aware, and lightly sarcastic about its own tropes. It neither glorifies nor critiques AI in any meaningful way, which feels like a deliberate choice. This isn’t social commentary. It’s escapism, and it stays firmly in that lane without turning preachy.

Characters & Actors

Seo Mi-Rae, the female lead, is a practical young woman who claims to dislike anything cheesy. Ironically, in the VR world, she revels in being the center of attention and indulges in exactly that kind of over-the-top cheesiness through her virtual dates. This contradiction is genuinely amusing, and much of that credit goes to Jisoo. However, there are moments - especially when the male lead pursues her - where her exaggerated expressions feel a bit off.

Park Kyeong-Nam, played by Seo In-guk, is the more grounded counterpart. His dynamic with Mi-Rae creates some genuinely fun early moments, but the character suffers from a lack of depth. We get almost no insight into his personal life or motivations, which makes it harder to fully invest in him. Despite that, Seo In-guk manages to inject enough charm to keep the character engaging, arguably more than the script deserves.

The supporting cast sticks closely to familiar romcom templates and serves its purpose without standing out. The standout addition, however, is the lineup of cameo appearances as virtual boyfriends. Their exaggerated perfection and over-the-top charm are knowingly ridiculous, and that’s exactly why they work.

Overall

This is a romcom that understands its limits and plays to them. After a string of shows with uneven storytelling, its consistency feels refreshing. It won’t become a favorite, and it’s not something I’d go out of my way to recommend, but it’s an easy, enjoyable watch if you’re in the mood for something light. As long as you are not actively opposed to the genre, there’s enough here to keep you entertained.

An underwhelming tale of Park Min Young and the mysterious demise of her lovers

A K-drama starring Park Min Young hardly ever misses and is always the latest buzz. So how can a mystery thriller with her and Wi Ha Joon end up failing to live up to its expectations?

Siren’s Kiss is based on the J-drama Ice World aired in 1999. The Korean remake revolves around chief auctioneer Han Seol Ah (Park Min Young) who has a dark secret – all her lovers have died. Upon receiving a tip call, insurance investigator Cha Woo Seok (Wi Ha Joon) unexpectedly meets Seol Ah. His suspicions about her grew stronger once he starts digging into the deaths of Seol Ah’s lovers. The burning question is whether Seol Ah is a murderer or if she is also a mere victim of these unfortunate events.

Park Min Young made Seol Ah distinct with her inscrutable face and composed personality. Her eyes look empty and shallow as if life had sucked out of her. After all, it’s not that long when her fiancé died in a tragic accident which only her closest friends know about. Snapping back at a colleague might be the closest she comes to displaying emotion. She is very hard to read but aside from that the idea that she lures men to death does not seem convincing.

The narrative only framed her to be mysterious so viewers can join the agenda of blaming her for her lovers’ demises. She is enigmatic because she rarely opens up and maintains a high emotional wall. Her beauty is comparable to that of an ice princess but is that all she has to captivate men? Later on, we learned the reason why men throw themselves to her but I still can’t shake the feeling that Seol Ah is an empty shell and discovering her secrets made it a lot more anticlimactic.

Honestly, I expected a lot from Wi Ha Joon as the leading man in a mystery-thriller. It should be pretty easy for him to showcase his manly charm and sharp wit as a detective. Unfortunately, the script did not do him justice and undervalued his talent. He looks old and matured here when he could have been a hella sexy detective while searching for evidence and solving the case. Instead, he is an ace investigator here who constantly stalks and baits you in his traps.

While Woo Seok falling in love with Seol Ah is rooted in their shared misery and regrets, their romance seems contrived and lacks the electrifying tension. I need stolen glances and fleeting touches which will be our only source of skinship and make us crave more.

The biggest weakness of the show is how obvious from the get-go that the writer is purposely distracting us from the real culprit by injecting a lot of fillers. Perhaps, the show tried to stay faithful to the original story that the conflicts ended up feeling outdated and unimaginative. With all the clues laid out in the open, I guessed the real culprit early on. I realized early on that there is not much going on here than what I expected it to be.

The story keeps on circling around framing up a successful antisocial sexy pretty girl. She is labelled as dangerous because she is intimidating and people are jealous of what she has. We see her as a mind-twisting, vicious woman because that’s what the story wants us to believe. The first portion of the show kept me on my toes while the second half took its sweet time revealing the criminal, drawing out every episode and making every character a suspect.

With how simple and straightforward the conflict is, this would have been better off as a movie instead of a series. The ending also pulled a full 180 and was plagued by mawkishness and syrupy sentiments, an unfitting theme for a thriller.

I must commend how the villains are consistently scary, psychotic and eerily creepy. I also appreciate the parallel narratives between the authenticity of the art pieces and the credibility of Seol Ah’s alibis. If it weren’t for these two aspects, I would have already dropped watching.

Fair enough, this is easy to watch with its fast pacing but that doesn't mean it's worth your time. A mystery-thriller in which all the men who loved Park Min Young die should intrigue viewers, yet the execution falls flat. It lacks the mind-boggling twists and rollercoaster of emotions I was hoping for. After all, there is nothing to look forward to here, not Wi Ha Joon’s protective nature nor Park Min Young ice-goddess beauty.
