A story that will tear your heart

I was skeptical at first to start the drama, mainly because of the fact that i'm not a criminal/mystery/Legal sort of a person.
The drama depicts the story of poor people vs. rich and influential people, and how the law can be easily broken and overthrown.
As a romantic-lover fan, this drama is not romantic in any sense. There is just a mild crush between the leads.
PMY shines in this drama and YSH albeit young in this drama, did a marvelous job. The antagonists also did a great job.
It got a bit draggy at some point and i think rather than 20-episode drama, a 16-episode one would have sufficed.
The soundtrack is not that beautiful to the ear; a bit too much dramatic and epic at some point, which is not well-suited for this drama.
The writers contrived a good piece, and you won't be bored much.
All in all, an enjoyable watch!

The music in the drama is beautiful and thrilling and keeps you on the edge of the seat, since the 1st episode I've been longingly awaiting the end to get a hold of the instrumentals of the OST.
Dislikes:
**The portrayal of the health disease was particularly inaccurate and made me feel like the character honestly just got the worst of everything, it was rare placed upon rare placed upon impossibilities.
**It was difficult to watch the seemingly neverending cycle of defeat on defeat.
**the earlier episodes I had trouble connecting with the lead and his placement of emotions, but, later on, he did fantastically.
**the romance although I could understand the reason for it being there, didn't
Likes:
** the opening theme was my favorite I would replay it over and over while waiting for the episode to load.
**Park Dong Ho was by far my favorite character in the drama, there was just something about him, from the way he walked to his accent, to his style and especially to the way he told truths in his eyes alone.
**Nam-Gyu Man was incredibly charismatic, and for such an evil and ruthless character the writer made you ultimately feel his inner pain.
**Yoo Seung Ho grew so much, I still remember when I first saw him he was so young, he did wonderfully in his first lead role after military
**It gave you a realistic portrayal of life. It wasn't your usual ending where everything was finished and solved. It was bittersweet and open.

Overal:
After I finished the series I felt like I lost someone dear to me, For the past 3 months I was anxiously awaiting every Wednesday and Thursday, and it almost never failed to deliver. The music was incredible and I'm just waiting for the full ost to come out so I can download to my heart's content. Although the show wasn't flawless, It kept to the original story and the truth won.

The best and saddest drama I have ever seen

This was one of the few dramas that gave me a very special feeling, a feeling that is a mixture of sadness, sympathy and shock by the characters. First of all, if I could go beyond 10, I would have given the cast/ story and rewatch value 10000000000.... that never ends. This drama really plays with your emotions. If you want a proof, just search Yo Seung Ho crying ep 10. This crying scene was what made me watch this series. Before, I didn't even know that this drama existed. You know sometimes you get the feeling that you should start a drama, without reading any reviews?? that was me. I just started watching it out of the blue. I also want to say that you can be sure that you won't regret watching it. This drama was so intense and the story was one of the most captivating stories I had ever seen. The actors were beyond imagination. They didn't seem to act, as if they were immersed in their role. The making was, however, so fun and cute.

Lastly, I wanted to say that it won't take long till you fall in love with this drama. I have watched many dramas and this was interesting surprisingly from the first shot in the first episode. Just watch episode 1 and you sure will understand what I am saying.

I went in without any expectations and was blown away by this drama. The acting is outstanding, especially the performance from Nam Gung Min as Nam Gyu Man. At no point did I feel like the story dragged. Every action and plot-line feels important even if they don't directly concern the main plot-line. This is a story that kept me guessing what would happen next and most importantly had me cheering for our main character. The music is also outstanding and adds to the story.

In summary: well acted, well written, great music. I cried. Recommended.

Nam Goong Min. That's all. That's all you'll remember when you are done watching this show. The brilliant portrayal by Nam Goong Min of a psychopathic murderer who is not only a narcissist, but also someone who has no empathy or guilt of his actions is so on point and perfect that you will hate the actor more than the character.

The story is quite fresh and unique and the twists are pretty well executed. One would except a certain thing and the show would take a completely different turn and stun the audience. It does get a little boring in the middle, but it soon gathers the pace. The story has a happy ending with respect to the justice served, however if you're looking for a happy and romantic ending for the main lead, you would be disappointed. Since the story is mostly related to crime and revenge, do not look for your typical romantic angles here.

The end, though not very satisfying, did justice to the story but still left me with a lot of questions about the aftermath of the story.

If not for anything else, do watch the show because of Nam Goong Min.

I absolutely loved this drama. Let's go with the review ^^

Story: the story wasn't really anything original, but I think it was well portrayed in 20 episodes. The love story was unnecessary but I have to admit that at one point I was hoping for a kiss with all my heart. There are some story holes but they aren't even that noticeable, so I think we can shut an eye on that.

Acting/Cast/Characters: The cast was great overall. I didn't feel much of a connection with the main character tho, but maybe it's just me; he was perfect for the role.
Instead, I felt a lot connected with Gyu Man. As someone who suffers from anger management issues, Goong Min did an amazing job at portraying that. At the end I felt so bad for him, even if he did what he did, I still felt heartbroken.
Another character that I really liked but without a solid reason, was Gyu Man's assistant, Soo Bum I think he's called. Actually, the only times where I actually felt hate towards Gyu Man was when he bad treated him lol
Other character that I loved was Dong Ho, especially at the start and at the end. His accent was really good too.
I have a question tho, why is Gyu Man's sister on the poster...? She barely did anything...
I hated so much the Moo guy, no hate towards the actor, but I wanted to just punch him in the face most of the time, he was so annoying. Another annoying character was the idol manager or whatever he was, but thankfully we didn't see him that much.
A character that I changed my opinion about is the main police detective (forgot his name, the one we see from the start). At first I really hated him, his face just got on my nerves; but at the end I just loved him. I have no idea if it was made for comical purpose, but I laughed everytime he talked in the last episodes.

Music: I personally really liked the OST. The one with the violin was absolutely the best and the "happy" one wasn't annoying like usual. I didn't notice the songs tho, I tried to pay attention but they weren't really relevant.

Rewatch Value: I'm not the type to rewatch dramas, but, if we're talking about this, I could definitely give it a rewatching chance.

Overall: In my top favourite dramas for sure. Not at first place because I just didn't feel much of a connection with the good party. I definitely reccomend it, especially if you are into lawyer' dramas or you have anger management issues like me lol

One thing I would say to anyone who is thinking of watching this drama - 'Prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions', because this drama sure made a mix of emotions. In some parts I was angry, others happy, and some more I was sad. I decided to watch this drama after reading the plot and also Park Min Young is my favourite actress. Also, I had never seen a drama with Yoo Seung Ho in and boy! Now I am going to hunt through all of his past dramas and watch them all!

Story: The story wasn't written, it was crafted. And it was crafted beautifully. The staff of this drama did a fantastic job and it was everything which I had expected plus more. A large part of this drama actually gave me goosebumps. It was so beautiful and I was even on the edge of my seat in parts. It is a beautiful but sad story and it was made perfectly. The only bad thing I have to say is I wish there was slightly more romance involved but with such a crafted storyline, they managed to fit a lot of things in 20 episodes so it didn't bother me too much.

Acting: What can I say about the acting in this drama? The acting of this drama was one of the best I have seen in a while. Yoo Seung Ho and Park Min Young portrayed their roles perfectly. The chemistry between them and the other characters were also amazing. But I would have to give my award to the villian/bad guy. Nam Goong Min (Nam Gyu Man). When I hear of a villian/bad guy, Nam Goong Min played everything I would expect. He gave me goosebumps and his acting was absolutely amazing (I am sorry poor laptop for me screaming at you during his scenes). I also really enjoyed a lot of the extra characters apart from those who were the leads. That's why I gave the acting 10/10.

Recommend/Rewatch: I would DEFINITELY recommend this drama to anyone who loves dramas with some mystery, romance, thriller and drama. This is the perfect drama for you. Rewatch value... hm. I think I would still have to prepare myself for everything which is going to happen, even though I have already watched it! It was an amazing drama and I enjoyed every single part of it. I really do not think I was bored at any parts of this drama. So watch it! You will DEFINITELY not be disappointed!

I can honestly say I loved every single part of this drama and whilst it was airing, it was the only thing that kept me going until Wednesday and Thursday nights. :)

I lately find myself watching the Official OST MVs before deciding to watch a drama and it never fails to set the tone for my expectations.

This drama is special to me because it revolves around a son's Love for his father and vice versa. No episode was dull for me, it always kept me on edge. And it shows the various father and son dynamics. There is one character in the drama that was so twisted but at the same time so innocent. The drama also did great interjecting some comic relief here and there perfectly, and warm scenes were sincerely warm and happy. Acting and Casting was AWESOME. All the actors made me their instant fan. Crying scenes made me cry buckets as well. It can also get frustrating but definitely rewarding. I wondered why I didn't watch this when it aired before.

This drama in a word, is SAD from start to finish. As I read the synopsis from a different website, I didn't quite understand it. I was under the impression that only the father had Alzheimer's so you can only imagine how devastated I was when I finally realised Jin Woo had inherited the same condition as his father.

The cast as a whole were amazing but the best thing for me about this drama was Yoo Seung Ho. Man, that man can cry which just made me wanna jump into my screen so I could give him a huge hug and his portrayal of someone who has Alzheimer's was incredible. I also enjoyed the relationship between the characters who worked for the Jin Woo - they were absolutely hilarious. The relationship between Jin Woo and Park Dong Ho was what I'd call touching. He was close to Jin Woo but not too close if that makes any sense. Character wise, I thought Nam Gyu Man was absolutely INSANE. He is literally a psychopath who should've been locked up a very long time ago instead of having his troubles 'cleaned up for him'.

I will NOT be rewatching this, I was a real struggle the first time round. Whilst I enjoy investigation and law as genres, I am NOT a fan of tragedy storylines. But if you enjoy dramas with psychos, tragedy, investigations and law then this is one for you.

This review may contain spoilers
Instead of a drama, this show felt like a long movie. I was hooked onto it and kept watching the back stabbings, twists, and turns unfold. This drama shows us how greed controls many, but even so, human morals may still prevail at the end. Yoo Seung-ho was fantastic in this drama in the way he portrays his emotions as a kid and then adult. Park Min Young was criminally underused, but her role was still very appreciable. I really enjoyed the friendship between the two leads but also didn't mind how it blossomed into romance near the end. The side characters were developed, but many relationships between them are unknown. This may be the first drama where I really wished that a bit of K-drama unrealism filled in and gave our ML a miracle cure for his disease. The ending is so bittersweet with all the antagonists being finally put to justice. The OST did its job with the appropriate scenes.

Remember: War of the Son is a law, crime and revenge Korean drama. It is a story about Seo Jin Woo who has hyperthymesia who uses his abilities to exonerate his father who has been wrongfully accused of murder and sentenced to death. The drama explores the corruption of the justice system and the rich abusing their power. The cast played their characters very well especially Nam Goong Min who played the villain of the story Nam Gyu Man the rich sadistic president of Ilho Group. The character of Nam Gyu Man was evil and I really hated him. The soundtrack of this drama was good and it fit the drama. Overall Remember: War of the Son was a good drama .

This drama did what a drama is suppose to do- entertain.

Is it the best drama out there? IMO no but I still enjoyed it nevertheless.
The drama was really saved by the amazing acting; of course Sung Woong is great in everything he does and Seung Ho is just so freakin adorable BUT I have to say the star of this drama goes to Goong Min. Dude was absolutely horrendous and I hated his character from start to finish- he was PHENOMINAL! He plays the villain you love to hate perfectly.
As the story actually played out it became a bit frustrating and ridiculous but that is to be expected with k-dramas. I fully recommend this one but just be prepared for a roller coaster ride of emotions.
