What an intriguing drama

I wanted to watch He Is Psychometric because I liked the storyline of a boy who goes through a tragic incident and gains the ability to see the past of an object or person that he touches. I also wanted to watch it because Park Jin Young was a lead and I like GOT7. I was not disappointed, he's one of the best idol actors I've seen so far.

Throughout the series I was captivated by the story and its twist and turns. I especially enjoyed watching the growth of Jinyoung's character Lee Anh. He went from being kinda dumb and directionless to being focused on honing his Psychometric skills and growing into an amazing young man.

Potential spoiler coming up

I really liked the chemistry between Lee Anh and Yoon Jai In (Shin Ye Eun) as besties however I wasn't convinced by their romance. Their chemistry kinda fizzled in my opinion when the romantic scenes came up. It seemed like the script writers wanted them to date but kind of forgot about them as a couple when the mystery of the tragic events of their childhoods heated up. I think they should've either had the 2 main leads break up and remain friends or have them as just close friends. Not all dramas need their ML and FL lead to be lovers, this shouldn't be forced if there's no chemistry.

I liked the acting of the rest of the cast and their storylines. At times He Is Psychometric is a tearjerker. I thought 16 episodes was a good amount of time and I never felt like the story was dragging.

I'll likely watch He Is Psychometric again in a few years. I enjoyed the OST, especially JUS2 Take even though it's very different from their other music. I'm going to watch other shows with Jinyoung in them and I'm looking forward to watching Devil Judge.

The writers and the story could have done without the romance for sure, it was so unnecessary, the story is great but romance is stupid. I loved the story line but i wish people will make more authentic stories that don't contain love all the time. Let's at least get a story where the man guy or girl doesn't always have to get a love of his life as a sidekick or isn't romantically involved

Had some sort of potential but ultimately fails to make sense

Story (esp ending):
The ending was a huge letdown. It just doesn't make sense to me... Sung mo's thought process was to kill someone because they are going to be killed anyways while trying to frame 'that man' (the stalker dad), wearing Jae In's fathers jacket. Oh and also that the more people dead the better so that the police will investigate? Corrupt police gonna stay corrupt until exposed, they will (or try) hide cases no matter the size. Could have left it as a abuse storyline but the writers decided to try to do a 'shock plot twist' with him actually being a murderer.

Romance:
Was okay... I guess Ahn was a guy who likes kissing. Their storyline was sorta cliche... And Dae Bong and So Hyun's one was useless imo, didn't add anything to the drama.

I feel that if they just stuck to the psychometric part of the story & developed it the drama would be more worth watching. The first few eps up to ep 8/9 was fun to watch but then I lost interest with another drama. Skipped throughout the eps to reach the ending.

Acting:
Main leads were alright. Didn't have high expectations for this drama so didn't expect a lot from the acting. Didn't know of jinyoung/ seen him perform so no prejudice from that. He did good tho, had a natural vibe which I love. He suits the cheery boy vibe.

The ending ruined it for me

I really enjoyed most of the series and even the twist that Song Mo is the culprit but I felt like he deserved better. After everything that he went thru, he shouldn’t be locked up again. I wanted him to be truly free and live a happy life with his mum. It just so heartbreaking to lock him up once again, hence the low rating from me.

In terms of romance, I dun really see the chemistry between the leads, in fact I see more between FL and Song Mo, or even the bromance between Lee Ahn and Song Mo was better. It felt kinda forced and it would have been better to develop a romantic storyline between FL and Song Mo as there could be conflict there with a father in prison due to what he’s done and it could show how they both choose to stand by one another. With Lee Ahn, it seems like pure fluff.

What would you do to protect the one you love?

This drama revolves around Lee An, Jae In, Seung Mo, and Sueng Mo's mother. The story starts with an apartment fire that greatly affects all the main characters within the story, and continues to follow their lives many years later to show their lives after the incident. There are a lot of side characters, and even though it says the main ML is Jinyoung's character, it centers instead on Seung's Mo's underlying tragic life story. Be ready for some twists and turns on this one. The writer's took their time revealing the whole picture bit by bit through Le An's psychometric abilities and you're at the mercy of his journey.

Jinyoung's and Kim Kwon's acting is on par for this one and really carried the drama, but the FL felt a tad unreachable to me. The OST is lovely, but should have been used more. The plot line had a few holes in it and seemed to lack something I just couldn't put my finger on. I did enjoy the twist and turns and that the second villain admitted to his wrong doings. The ending felt a little lackluster after all the puzzle pieces were finally put in place, but this was also one of those drama's where the second half was much better than the first. Everything was there for a near perfect drama formula, but something got lost along the way.

All in all, I really wanted to like this one more than I did, but it felt reminiscent of Kill It and Memorist, both of which felt like they were missing something. I would still recommend giving it a try if you're in for a mystery/thriller and light romance type drama.

wasted potential

This drama had so much potential but it kept floundering. One scene reminded me of Flower of Evil. A storyline reminded me of a famous book/movie (won't reveal the name because that will give away the plot I'm referring to). So, yeah, there was potential to be something very interesting but I found myself rapidly losing interest.......only stayed till the end to see the lead couple's romance progression...lol

I think this was one of the first things of Shin Ye Eun's that I watched. I find her utterly charming and cute. Looking forward to more of her.

this is my first time writing a review here, and this drama spurred me to do so because it was just so good. the start didnt really appeal to me (cue cringey lines and incidents that was very obviously added for story purposes) but once the drama flipped, it kept me on my toes and i was throughly immersed in the story. without realising, i was already so invested in the 4 leads and the last episode made my heart ache so bad... thanks to the great chemistry and acting of the leads. i loved all of them that the inevitable and very unfortunate circumstance made me so sad for all of them.... this drama deserved better than being labelled as an idol actor drama! also watching this right after tkem probably helped it look like a better drama haha

It was great

A great drama to watch. The story line was great but it felt like things were moving in slow motion. With the last 3 episodes alluding to how it may have been Sung- Mo to it actually being Sung-Mo made it kind of feel like a drag. Though I may be a little biased in giving the storyline less then 10 because I’m still angry they made us love Sung- Mo for being a lifesaver then hate him for being the reason lives had to be saved. I wouldn’t rewatch it because after the fact this is probably my least favorite drama simply because when I finish one I usually go “What am I gonna do now? I don’t want it to be over”, but this drama made me wanna take a good nap and find something amazing to watch after.

I love thrillers SO MUCH, if you enjoyed this, I very much suggest Come And Hug Me starring Jang Ki Yong. But this one could've done better in easing the audience a little more into the plot. I stopped watching halfway because it felt like it had no substance but then I picked it up after 2 months on episode 9 and enjoyed it far more than before. The OST was amazing, I had listened to it over and over again and I am yet to get sick of it. Also the acting is amazing, the supporting actors weren't cringey or over the top and had as much substance as the main characters . *cough cough* So Hyun and Daebong as well as the Aunt and the Police officer at the community centre *cough cough*. I love how the production team really employed their skill, the varying shots, colour symbolism and extended metaphors really fulfilled my literature loving heart.

Overall, this isn't your romance drama, it is a psychological thriller more so than a romance and I am not disappointed. Each character and the acting of the senior actors (Jeon Mi Seon and Lee Sung Joon) really complimented the rookie actors (Shin Yeeun and Park Jinyoung). I just felt that the plot was too jarring, the first half is a DRAMATIC contrast to the second half of the drama.

If you were like me, an ahgase who also watched A-teen, you will not be disappointed.

It was fun but

Basically, I liked the characters and the plot, overall. I liked the messages of healing and also of forgiveness you can find in it.
But there were some things here and there that I disliked, like the humour. And the truth is I also simply hated how they dealt with alexithymia. Well, not hate, ok, but let's be clear : this is NOT alexithymia they are showing here. And it kinda makes me angry a bit.

Alexithymia does NOT make you lack empathy, guilt, remorse, whatever. THIS is what ASPD does. Alexithymia has nothing to do with ASPD.
Alexithymia is a disorder where you are unable to identify and express your emotions, with words but also with the right facial expressions. It's nearly impossible to say "I feel THIS", because your feelings are hazy and mixed up and you don't know how to express yourself nor feel comfortable enough to do so. You will more likely say "I think" rather than "I feel", for exemple. You won't express big emotions, yet this does not mean that you are not impacted by them even though you don't actively "feel" them, and this will translate as suffering from some psychosomatic illnesses. People suffering from this disorder usually are not risk takers or impulsive like a person with ASPD would, because with alexithymia you'd rather not be stimulated by anything or anyone and you'd rather not attract attention and be outside of the law like an ASPD person would. You're not going to kill someone impulsively because of alexithymia. You're just not. It does not affect your moral compass and ability to have empathy for other living beings, although you might have trouble understanding other people's emotions just as much as your own.

Wow ok so now that this rant is over, what's left :
Good premise
Some good characters
Good story overall
Good acting
Good pacing (imo)
Interesting relationships and an ok romance (yeah, am not a romance fan so I won't elaborate on that, but it was fine, they were pretty cute)
Pretty dark themes (abuse, trauma)
Important lessons

So yes, this is a good drama. It's entertaining, has lot of emotions, and the ending's pretty good. But this nonsense about alexithymia is just a bit much for me and is why I felt the need to write this review.

The series have a very interesting premise of using psychometric to help solve crime. Psychometric itself is not admissible in court, so you still need hard evidence to back up the clues found by using psychometric. If you like crime drama than you should give this one a watch.

For me the story was not developed well enough, especially in the first half. If I didn’t watch the ending and conclusion, I probably would give the story 6/10, but the ending was really satisfying and makes me understand their decision better regarding the first half, that’s why it gets 7.5/10. I still wish they develop the story better in the first half.

There were several issues that I really dislike that’s really prominent during the first half. One of them is the lack of psychometric used, I mean this is supposed to be a series about somebody with psychometric abilities, but he barely used it, like almost never. Yes it could be part of the development, but I don’t think that’s the best way to go about it. Another thing I really dislike is how incompetent the series make the police look, other than Eun Ji Soo and even she’s not that great. I also really dislike how stupid and immature they make Lee Anh character. I mean he’s supposed to be in his early twenties, victim of trauma and tragedy, but he’s literally made into a puppy, a stupid one at that.

Other than those really annoying things, the plot was great. I really the curve ball they threw by midway point, when they main plot start to really be revealed. I also love all the relationship between each characters, they are so entangled and complicated once they revealed what really happen in the past. Really love the ending, it’s so satisfying and rewarding, I wish they make a 2nd season because I want to see them all again in a better setting.

The cast for this show is great, they all acted their character perfectly. Kim Won as Kang Sung Mo stands out the most for me. He portray Sung Mo’s troubled character so well, he’s brotherly love to Lee Anh also come across so naturally but awkwardly, which is perfect. Park Jin Young as Lee Anh also portray the character well, I just wish they develop the character a bit more. Shin Ye Eun as Yoon Jae In was very lovable, her character is portrayed and developed very well. We could see the vulnerability but also the steel resolve she has. All the other casts are also great, even the supporting casts.

I love the music for the series. There are 3 songs that I have been keep playing in my list, ‘With You’ (by Promm), ‘Wake’ (by JUS2) and this is my favorite ’Shadows on the Wall’ (by Janet Suhh). I also really like how they always show what happens in 2005, when the fire happen in the apartment, in the first 5 minutes of a new episode. It keep on build up your knowledge on what happen in the past. I don’t think I will rewatch this series anytime soon, because once you know the twist the series lack anything interesting.

He's Psychometric

8/10 is my rating. This is a 2019 South Korean drama that has 16, 60 minute episodes. Lee Lee Ahn (Park Jin-young) is able to see past events by touching the person who experienced the events. He acquired this ability after losing his parents in an apartment fire. He fortuitously meets Yoon Jae-in (Shin Ye-eun) who is the daughter of the accused arsonist and Kang Sung-mo (Kim Kwon) who saved Ahn during the fire. Investigator Eun Ji-soo (Kim Da-som), is like an older sister to Ahn and is also a police investigator, The four team up to solve cases they feel are interrelated including the case that took many of their parents.

Spoiler ? Overall I liked the story and the romance was very believable. I was disappointed by some of the twists and unexpected aspects of some of the characters I had come to know. I felt like some things were unnecessary. Some would not have problems with the same - but I like happy and neatly tied up. It is very suspenseful and has a lot of surprising elements. The romance between the two leads is very heartwarming.
