Lost in the Kunlun Mountains (2022)

A lot of good characters (and plot holes)

I'd say this drama is a solid 7, but the cast was acting so well that I have to put a higher score. Anyway, whenever I watch behind the scenes of these series and see how much time and effort goes into each episode, it becomes even more precious. That being said, the plot is lacking in many aspects and the ending flopped so hard that it was just disappointing to watch.

○Male characters○

I have to say that most of the characters are amazing. XuKai played Ding Yunqi, a very reserved and witty young man, good both in martial arts and strategy. For some episodes, his rival was Luo Yunsong, an equally smart police guy bound to catch whoever killed his family to take revenge. Whenever these two characters interacted it was a feast for the eyes and the brain. Their respectful brotherly relationship is one of the things that saved the series for me. They went from rivals to good friends/brothers and it was a very natural development - I was rooting for them, unlike for the female lead:)) Sun Sanxuan, a sect leader and Yunqi's friend, was also amazing. HeBiao, who worked for LuoYunsong, often stole the scene due to good looks and great character - his devotion was pure and beautiful in many ways. SanJin, the cook and Yunqi's helper, was cute and always brought some light and fun to the scenes.

○Female characters○

It was a pity to see close to no chemistry between Yunqi and Wu Shuang. Even for a childhood crush, their relationship didn't have enough backstory for me. As they met, the girl immediately started talking about getting married as that was the only way she could leave the sect and lead a normal life. I was like, okay girl, good for you, but he has no obligation to save you. True, a sect like that would be almost impossible to quit, especially given her upbringing and that she was the favorite student of Shifu, but that marriage demand set a bad tone for me right from the beginning and wasn't cute at all. Her character was also acting stupid a lot of times and she wasn't the cutesy type that could be forgiven for acting childish and irresponsible - usually, it was just frustrating. The same goes for the second female lead Chu Fengling. She went from a respectful, smart, and educated young lady to a power-hungry monster in a matter of a few episodes and it was a pity to watch. She was the most irritating character and I wish they had written her differently because the actress, who played her, did a great job. Cui Yanzhi, one of the sect leaders, was one of the few adequate female characters in the series - she was cunning, but devoted and always thought about the bigger picture, just like Yunqi and Luo Yunsong.

○Plot○

All in all, the plot wasn't bad and I loved the adventurous feel of it. Visually it was very pleasing and all the riddles they had to solve were pretty cool - they could have added more and made it more of a tomb-rider-style quest, but I was still content with the overall atmosphere. The cringe-worthy brother of Luo Yunsong didn't do much for me - he was a bit of a comedic relief, but his love for the FL and the whole story just seemed unnecessary to the plot. Although, I have to admit the actor did a great job portraying him. The Shifu was also a great character, as were all male and female supporting roles. The plot was just lacking consistency, and the romantic relationship of the main couple seemed a bit forced to me (but I still enjoyed it, mostly due to XuKai's impeccable acting). The bad guys of the series were quite decent, I won't give any spoilers, but it worked.

So, don't expect much from the series and you won't be disappointed, Definitely watch it if you're a fan of XuKai, but even if you're not, the plot and other great characters are worth it to at least give this cdrama a try. I don't regret watching it, but I used fast-forward quite a lot:)

Addictive Drama

When this drama started airing, people where saying that it Xu Kai first flop drama. Little did they know this would be a very addictive watch. This drama is set in the early 1900s, and deals with kung fu sects and their outdated rules.

Throughout the drama the themes of greed, indoctrination, power structures and the question of what it means to be a “dog” are brought up. The romance is settle but adorable and precious. And all characters are equally interesting.

Expect to have to use some brain power for the first episodes to understand the context and story. From there the events of the story unraveled nicely with many twists and turns.

Disclaimer not to judge the ending too harshly as it was the subject to censorship. Its a nice ending but cut short. Nonetheless this is a good watch.

How is the drama?

Ok first of all.
It was an amazing drama. The story is good.
The cast is good. But romance wise. Idk i felt it was messed up because they fell in love way too soon. Usually chemistry and conversations and realisation all comes before love.
But it was too rushed up.
And siblings..shouldve reunited way before.
Luo Yunsong and wushuang had to re unite way before. And show us the siblings chemistry
and even when they get to know the truth. Nothing really made a difference. So disappointed in that too.


Mainly..wtf is with the ending. Like nothing is clear at all. Lastly...everything's collapsing and the next moment....they r in hospital.
Like ending was too messy.
And i feel..commander hu mustve not died. Because he had a chemistry with fengling.
Shoudve shown their romance too.

Everything about this drama was so not right.
Storyline is good i agree. Cast is amazing.
But the way its presented is too messy and unclear. No wonder its kind of underrated.
Not satisfied with ending.
Would recommend to watch it..but later on..it just gets messier. So take risk on ur own.

Wanna say about Xu Kai but , Luo Jiu Tian -funniest man in that serie!

I really like Xu Kai , he handsome, talanted, funny , has his own charm , unique not "created for public only " , he naturally playing different aristocratic, strong masculine roles ! Big respect ☺️ watched a lot of his series
All actors are beautiful, and acted very well, even support role actors.
I so much like BiaoZi , he forgave that bi** which wanna kill him to get the Kunlun mountain (queens attention) oh i really don't like her character haha to get attention from bad actions it's ain't good choice
Wu Shuang too naive , i wonder how she can have such illusions about people around and too easy believe to someone and have some crazy ideas lol but finally she married him haha
Also wandered how she can be so strong at martial arts and too naive huh unbelievable))
Was shocked that her uncle...became the killer... I really tho that will be some different personaje coz already loved his character of Zhou CiuHai , that is surprised me
Want notice 2 facts (maybe only me saw them )
1 when Xu Kai first came to Cui Yang Zhi office , when she flirting with him , he looked nervous..idk maybe that was by scenario but seemed that he or like her really ( her flirt ) or really not haha (can't understand lol )
2 that the costumes of Xu Kai character and other who's live in city ,"too modern ", like i understand that in 20/90' the fashion started changes but these costumes seemed a little modern like our days ..compare also to the costumes of martial art clan ..
Sometimes i can't find the logic in some episodes ..
also liked how acting Luo Jiu Tian ! He super funny 🤣 i think he must play only funny characters , his mimic, guys ! That's something! I enjoyed to see his game , and how he winking with eyes , his voice reacts 🤣🤌🏾 ))) love it ! So dramatic guys , so dramatic !!! Advice to watch this drama and specially this funny guy )))))))

The storyline was great but did have one hiccup. I felt that in the end, they left out a lot of the storyline. It surely skipped part of the ending and looked like it was missing. This is another one of those dramas you can't skip episodes on or you will miss needed-to-be-watched information. Xu Kai (Ding Yun Qi), what can I say, his acting is awesomely great and very handsome.
Elaine Zhong (Wu Shuang), played another strong female character and she was excellent. Kudos to her! The other main actors and supporting actors/actresses also did very well. As I always say if a team works together they will get the job done and show a great story. The costumes were great, I love the historical garments of what martial art sects wore. I loved the martial arts in this drama. It was like watching great dancers. Xu Kai was dressed in some fabulous suits, wow. The visuals for the Kunlun Mountains were totally interesting and awesome that I had to research these mountains. The formation of the mountain range is incredible. Thank you for a great storyline and for educating me on the Kunlun Mountains.

A love it or hate it drama!

This will be one of those dramas that becomes one of your favourites of 2022 or one you drop after the first episode (if you last that far). The simple reason is the style of the show. For me the style is great, it makes the show stand out from many other dramas, but I can see that being an issue for many people.

As with many shows this one has its own world with its own rules and you slowly get introduced to it. There are misunderstandings mostly due to Xu Kai's character being new to the rules himself but we get introduced to them gradually. The tone of the show (for me) is what sets it apart from other shows. It's somehow dirtier and more down to earth than other shows while still keeping the the martial arts Sects and ideas. There are no cultivators, simply people with good gadgets and lots of years experience.

As of yet they have been talking a lot about the KunLun mountains but we haven't actually got there and I hope the show doesn't change too much when they do. It's definitely an interesting show and I love how all the actors are portraying their (for once) three dimensional characters.

I can see why some people wouldn't like the show though and this kind of thing wouldn't appeal, but if everything appealed to everyone then we wouldn't need the range of shows we enjoy.

I don't just understand why am feeling the show

I was so anticipating this show and was so excited when it was finally out. i loved the introduction of Xu kai whom was the reason I wanted to watch the show as i am his huge fan but along the way i stated losing interest in the show and I cant wrap my head around why. the story seem fine to me and the acting was ok I guess. so what my problem was I think was the chemistry between the main leads. it seemed they were forcing it and the supporting actors as well one other thing the story was all over the place and kind of hard for me to even understand most of the scenes. the story seemed like a continuation of a previous show rather than a fresh show. well for me i thing i am not going ahead with the remaining episodes. am stopping here

Skip this drama

I dropped this drama. I have dropped many dramas this year. This drama from the start instead of drawing the audience in felt more so pushed the audience away.

Xu Kai for me and me only doesn't possess enough natural charisma & from the beginning I felt this drama was flat with the story and the characters. Elaine Zhong I am willing to give more chances as in exciting dramas but Xu Kai has had many misses lately. Again this is my opinion only.

I say it you are looking for an opinion to watch or not I say check out first 10 minutes, if appeals then watch if not move on.

Tinha tudo para ser um bom drama

A história tem elementos interessantes, mas os personagens não cativam, pois, exceto Ding Yun Qi, todos os personagens aparentam caráter duvidoso em algum momento do drama. O primeiro capítulo é eletrizante, com cenas de ação muito boas, mas ao longo do drama as cenas ficam monótonas e com poucas cenas de ação. A personagem Cui Yan Zhi, que parecia ser muito importante, por saber muitas coisas, desaparece completamente do drama. A finalização é ridícula, pois na cena que deveria ser o ápice do drama não existe, ficou subentendido que o protagonista conseguiu sobreviver, mas como ele saiu do desabamento fica a critério da imaginação daqueles que assistem. Perdeu-se a oportunidade de uma cena de ação empolgante e, também, da emoção do reencontro entre o casal protagonista.
O elenco é muito bom, Xu Kai e Wang Yang brilharam com atuações maravilhosas, mas faltou alguma coisa para o casal protagonista convencer que havia sentimentos entre eles.
A direção pecou na finalização, pois conduziu o drama com cuidado, produziu excelente fotografia, cenários exuberantes, edição sem grandes erros. A falta de cenas que mostrem como Ding Yun Qi escapou do desabamento e o reencontro com a esposa, na minha visão, comprometeram muito a qualidade do drama.
A trilha sonora é interessante, apesar de algumas melodias serem bastante sonoras, nem sempre casou bem com a cena.
