Pretty Good Series

The actors did a good job in this drama - I loved the heroes, I hated the villains, everybody gets their reward or punishment, and there were no needless deaths just for dramatics. Loved the progression of the relationships - especially the SML & SFL - I think I liked them even more than the ML & FL. Sweet story, and the romance was just right (although I would have liked a bit more for the second couple). Saving his lady and her family was the highlight of the story for me. I replayed that scene a few times just to savor the moment. Enjoyed the moments of brevity between the characters - and those expressions! I really enjoyed this series and will most likely watch it again.

Binge worthy!

I stumbled upon this drama and binged watch it last week. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the storyline of this drama. The plot may sound familiar about "robin hood of the East" and equality. The actors are quite unknown to me but they were able to carry this drama pretty good.

Guess sometimes it may be better to use not so famous actors so that watchers can be more objective in drama storyline and acting. Like successes of "Under the skin", "Reset", "Goodbye my princess", "Longest day in Chang'an", "The Legends", etc.

Healthy dose of multiple romance with lots of fight scenes..

Loved this one. Very easy to watch, light, fun, action packed with mysteries here and there, and enough romance to spice things up.

I thought it was a typical RomCom in a traditional costume setting. I didn't mind the prolonged scenes at the school which was really surprising because I usually skip those parts.

Then as the story unfolds, it became more exciting. From the barbaric format "Me, Tarzan, You Jane. My wife." To a bit reluctant friendship, to a beautiful fun loving relationship. All of these while solving their personal issues and all the problems surrounding them.

This story wasn't able to make me cry but it did make my heart sigh.

Now, what I don't like was the part near the ending. The scholars suddenly turned stupid, and turned against the ML and FL for the poisoning fiasco. Then the FL who's a good fighter, suddenly became a helpless little girl that got poisoned and held hostage multiple times.

40 episode dramas usually scare me because they are so long! Surprisingly, this drama flew by and I was invested the whole time. This was an easy watch and I really liked the ML and FL. I've watched other dramas with the ML but this one seemed to be written just for him. The ML was convincing as both a charming bandit and as a handsome scholar who adored the FL and was never too far behind her. The FL was adorable, kind, and innocent, but she wasn't clueless and didn't let people step all over her. The ML and FL connected from the very first episode and they stayed together through thick and then. Issues that came up were resolved within 1 or 2 episodes and you saw the leads band together to stay together. There were a lot of sweet moments (I loved the way they looked at each other) and even though the plot did kind of go astray and there were the "wth" episodes, for me personally, the leads' chemistry made up for it!

This is a great romantic comedy set in a historical period. This is a lighthearted drama with well choreograph action scenes, great cinematography, enjoyable OST, and a cast that did great delivering their characters with an honorable mention to Rain Lu as Wen Ren Jua, a lovable, smart, witty and, at some times, too naïve about people’s true character. The conflicts between the leading couple are many due to misunderstandings, but they are quickly resolved through the amazing communication between them. The leading couple has great chemistry and their interactions are adorable. The supporting cast did well, especially the second leading couple whose friendship with the leading couple is strong and steadfast; they truly shine on episode 30! Overall, this is a very good romantic comedy; nothing thunderous, but truly entertaining. Enjoy it!

Brain numbing

This was a solid 7 stars until episode 36 when our formerly strong female lead who was proficient in martial arts became a damsel in distress who couldn't even save herself from 2 guards when previously she'd fought off over a dozen bandits simultaneously. It's as if the writers took a hiatus and came back with amnesia and decided 'What the heck, no one will know that we've made her stupid(er)'. Secondly, the baby voice and random infantilizing of the FL were so gaddamn nauseating and idiotic. ??I implore C drama writers to please stop with the stupid female characters.
Lastly, the romance was toxic af but because the male lead was hot we're supposed to forget he kidnapped the FL and effectively ruined her reputation. Then there was the obsessive and unrequited love quadrangle that basically turned supposed teenagers into psycho killers.
Anyway, it's watchable but maybe turn off your brain and just take it as it comes.

Enjoyable watch just a bit long

This was an enjoyable watch. I mostly liked it for the relationship of the main and secondary couples, the friendship and bonds formed along the way. I didn't care to much about all the conspiracy and villains, it was tiring to watch that made me feel that the drama was too long.

Likes:
- Luo Qui Chi and Wen Ren Juan - I liked watching them, they were a normal couple who got jealous and showed it, who got clingy sometimes. Told the other if there were upset about something and none of that noble idiocy thing - well except for one part which was brief so fine I will overlook. I liked how their relationship developed, they knew when they liked each other and had a somewhat understanding without having to say the words that they were together. There is a hidden identity tag and I thought it would be one of those that Luo Qui Chi goes to attend the academy with Wen Ren Juan and WRJ wouldn't recognize him for several episodes - sooooo glad she recognized him right away and they just them again from when they left off when she left the mountain. I liked how they teased each other shows how confident they are in their relationship, they weren't tiptoeing around each other.

Hang Ru Xue and Zhao Qing He - they were good together but they were especially great friends and support to LQC and WRJ.

The Emperor - he was just cute! There were two sides to him I wish he had more interaction with LQC and WRJ. - they treated him like kid when there was just the three of them and like a kid he was easily impressed with his "idol" and was very playful. However, he was also an emperor who weighed the situation and made good decisions.

Zhu Xiu Academy students - what I would call teamwork! - except for those two who annoyed me throughout the show grrrr.

All in all a good enjoyable show - towards the end if started to feel too long, I fast forwarded a lot even skipped full episodes I didn't care anymore how they got punished I was satisfied knowing that fact that the villains did get punished. I just wanted to get to the finale and see how it ends. Good ending.

Just saying - Kris Fan looks hot as Luo Qui Chi and more so as the Dong Yi Mountain Lord :-)

Genre: Tsundere Genius Mysterious Mountain Bandit x Y/N

First of all:
A Tsundere Genius Mysterious Mountain Bandit.
That's it. That's literally all that's interesting in this drama.

This is very biased, because I have strong attachment towards smart, rogue, pirate-ish, kind of man, and our ML Luo Qiuchi is certainly that kind of man.

The first episodes are opened with the ML being this mysterious mountain bandit. He's a rogue, his past is unknown, we don't know who he is, he seemed cruel and a womanizer, but! Then we found out that he's actually steeped in education, talented, confident in his talent, and a natural leader. I really liked the first episodes. They felt alive, The chemistry burns. We found clues to this mysterious bandit.

But then in the following episodes, more characters appeared, and it slowly got bland. The supporting characters are not bad, but there's little to no chemistry at all... Maybe it's the story, or maybe it's the way it's portrayed, I'm not sure.

The build up of the plot is also a bit weird. I think they were aiming for a complicated mystery-martial arts-slow burn romance, but it felt dragging at times and the scenes felt like a filler, so I skipped every so often, and decided to dropped it at episode 19.

If they could packed it in like 26-30-ish episodes, and simplifies the story instead, making it maybe just an ancient school drama with a slash of mystery, I think it would be better.

P.S. The opening music is so good, it's a bonus point.
