I really love this drama. I feel like sometimes we need to watch this kind of drama. Everything and everyone in this drama is really lovely. Li Hong Yi is so handsome and he really did well in this drama. Lamu yang Zi is so cute. They two had great chemistry. Most people criticize that the actress is ugly and this drama won't be that much good. I want to say them that they are totally wrong. In most drama, beautiful actresses pretend like they were ugly at first and then they glow up and beautiful and the male lead fall in love with them. We have seen those kinds of plots so many times and I am tired of it. This drama is the one and only drama I get the vibe like " He falls in love with her personality, not her face". For me, I love each character, OSTs and especially the chemistry between the king and the queen. I think this drama deserves more. And thank to the ones who made this drama. This will be one of my favorite drama forever.

one of the best historical dramas of the year...

wow! just finished watching and definitely wasn't expecting that. i went in with low expectations and i have been pleasantly surprised.

this is a very well rounded drama for the most part. the cast is good for their parts, good acting, mains have great comedic timing and the funniest expressions (especially the emperor). the jokes carried throughout an episode and occasionally built off each other through the show which i always enjoy. even though i've watched my fair share of historical dramas this has got to be one of my favorites because it was so well rounded for me and funny.

i will only nitpick on two things. first: even though our main couple was so funny together, they did not have much chemistry. two: second overarching plot point in the second half was just not that interesting and made me lose some interest.

other than that it was such a good series. constantly laughter and smiles. also really really loved the soundtrack!!

Sweet and Funny

I think I have seen quite a few funny drama. This one in particular is just purely funny from the beginning to the end. Watching Li Hong Yi played that cold character yet funny is quite interesting. The line of casts are just funny. Some scenes can be quite serious but still funny. I feel like laughing at some serious scenes and I can't help it. The love story part is like any other rom-com drama I've seen but this drama particularly is interesting. It is so much fun to watch. There were a bit of actions but moderate. Although I do wish to see Jin Feng and Yun Zheng actually have an extra ending with some kids perhaps but even their ending was funny which was just so cool. You could some pretty cool gadgets and devices during ancient era which quite rare. If some of you think this drama is not your flavor, I think you should give it a try and watch because I thought I wouldn't watch and I actually enjoyed it.

First of all, this drama is a great watch if the viewer understands that, although it is not perfect, it is enjoyable! Second of all, it is a comedy and, although it has its critics saying that it is not historically accurate, the show is a fictional story about a queen named Liu Jin Feng and how her funny, witty, smart, and loving character wins over those around her. It is true that the show has some gaps or inconsistencies in the storyline to include a supposed assassination attempt on the king that is never shown and the fact that the romance developed almost nonsensically and with little to no intimate chemistry. Besides that, the show has a zealous villain (Wang Dong as Liu Xie [Grand Chancellor / Jin Feng's father]) that does a fantastic job delivering his character which keeps the viewer guessing and expecting the moment in which his true character will come to light; a fantastic second male lead (Bai Shu as Yu Chang Ya) that has a great and super cute chemistry with Jin Feng; and last but not least, the magnificent and funny Jin Feng's mother ( Wang Wan Juan asYong Fu). The drama has very nice incidental music and a charming dance routine that leaves you smiling at the end of the drama. Overall, the drama missed the potential of becoming great but it is good enough to keep you entertained. (As an afterthought, I found it irritating that the director didn’t take the opportunity to ask the leading couple to earnestly show better intimacy. I have seen Li Hong Yi doing better intimate scenes in other dramas but he fails to deliver real romantic feelings as the king Yuan Yun Zhang. The leading lady might not be considered a drop dead gorgeous woman, but she’s not an ugly duckling. She seemed to have been more comfortable in her character than Li Hong Yi in romantic moments but, I must say, they had a cute and fun chemistry.)

Entertaining, Comedy & Fun to watch

Innocent, funny, chubby and cute village girl, arrange by dad (the Prime Minister) to marry the emperor, a handsome lad (a puppet emperor) and became the empress overnight.

Unlike other dramas' with pretty looking ML and FL, this show gives it a different twist in a good way. Life can't be that perfect all the times, isn't it? Although everyone was shock by the queen's appearance but inner beauty won the game at the end. She won the heart of the emperor and family.

The motive of the Prime Minister (the Empress's father), which seems like the villain at the start but was actually a way to teach the emperor how to be a good emperor. I may be expecting that his plot to help the emperor to only show towards the end but I can see through his plot between 10-15 episode hence it was more of a lovey dovey show thereafter which made me feel that the show might have been better if it was shorter. So the plot should have been made better in my opinion.

Nonetheless, I do enjoy Jackie and Hong Yi 's chemistry. Love to see how they both backed each other in times of needs and even misunderstand each other's intention during the show.

In summary, you will like this show if you are not looking at too much of plots but comedy. Am sure this will tickle your funny bones.

Wasted opportunity

The story lacks emotion, particularly between the major characters. Instead, we get hijinks and slapstick "comedy" where the fat Queen becomes the butt of jokes. She is the epitome of what Hollywood has been doing to overweight actresses. She's either always eating or unintentionally making a fool of herself with no one to tell her the truth.

I don't know whether the FL's character and appearance are true to the source material. however, the reality is the main couple failed to communicate for way too long and had very low chemistry. Was it a mistake by the director? Did the scriptwriter not understand how to build up their attraction and just gave up on making it work?

Notwithstanding, it was refreshing to see a woman who wasn't borderline anorexic play the female lead although the styling department failed to utilize her beauty properly. The makeup was horrendous and her clothing styles did her no favors. She looked really lovely whenever she wore those high-waisted dresses made with floaty, airy fabrics rather than the conventional structured layered dresses. Then her beauty really shone through alas, this was done for only two episodes.

Why do I get the feeling that the producers and director intentionally sabotaged this series? Was it done to discourage having a different type of leading lady or did they genuinely not know what to do with Jackie Li's character?

Simple but Legendary Life of The Extraordinary Queen

As Li Hongyi's fans, I waited for this drama for so long. This drama really gives me a different feeling. For the first time, I really enjoyed it without too much thinking.

Story. Even though there are some scenes that cut harshly, but this is one of the dramas that are light-hearted and simple. I can enjoy each of the episodes without worrying to miss something important. It's unfortunate that some scenes are missing and affect the entire plot. But I really enjoyed the drama without thinking too much and feel the none sensed scene was really entertaining. Sometimes comedy comes from something none sensed. The romance is simple yet beautiful for the main lead or the other characters.
But the story can be more enjoyable if there is a wise adjustment to the scenes that are missing for some reasons.

Cast. Li Hongyi and Lamu Yangzi really outcome my expectation of each character. I watched this drama for Li Hongyi but I didn't expect Lamu Yangzi or Jackie Lie really catch my attention. Both of them executed the character really well as a Queen and King that extraordinary. Bai Shu as Yu Changya gives a strong impression on me too. Also, Wang Dong as Liu Xie is a unique character in the whole drama.

Music. I really like all of the songs, there is no soundtrack that sounds weird to my ears. The song is placed in the most suitable way for the drama. Especially, when Hongyi and Jackie sing together, they melt my heart.

I recommend watching this drama when you want to just laugh at silly things and don't want to think too much. Even though this is not the best.

Bella

I agree with this being a great comedy. I loved all of the characters and thought casting was good. I only had a couple or problems—one, not enough affection between main characters. He had several opportunities to kiss the queen and although he kept saying he wanted her to know how he felt, he didn’t take advantage of those times. Second, I was totally lost in ep. 23 when he was injured and the queen dressed his wounds seeing his scarred back. How did he get hurt. There was nothing to explain how he ended up in bed with everyone worrying about him—no fight, no ambush, just nothing.

I really liked her interaction with her childhood friend and her parent’s relationship. I didn’t understand why she and her mother were in that little village away from her dad for her whole life. But, when her mother came to her dad’s house, her parents act/say they are married, then her mother runs away to the palace because her dad wants to get married. Confusing.

Other than those two main issues, I really enjoyed this show. I liked the emperor’s friends and how much they cared about him and I really loved the way his family all got along and his younger brother was so inventive and supported him wholeheartedly. Having the queen’s sister be a writer of romance novels was fun too. The girl can’t win over the emperor but has all these great love scenes in her stories.

Although it was a fantasy, I enjoyed the uncle’s PA system—it just added to the farcical theme of the show. I would like to see a sequel to this to see what other kinds of trouble this group can get into. It’s a fun time in my opinion.

The heroine is too ugly to play the main role

The plot is simple, some costumes, some styles, some makeups and sushi eating scenes look Japanese. Jackie Li real name is Lamu Yoko (Sound Japanese) I hope this drama wouldn’t cause any problems to some Chinese extremists in China who don’t like the Japanese culture. I watched this drama because of the two actors Li Hongyi and Bai Shu.
Queen Jin Feng played by Jackie Li is terrible, she is too ugly to play the main role, but her voice is very nice and should be played as the voice actress and the supporting role. Emperor Yun Shang played by Li Hongyi is very handsome and a very good looking. Li Hongyi acting skills in ancient costume drama have been improving a lot. Chang Ya played by Bai Shu, a good looking guy and always has a good humorous. The soundtrack performed by Jackie Li and Li Hongyi are also good, both have a nice voice.
In conclusion: It’s just simply a comedy Chinese mixed Japanese ancient costume drama, but the ugly Queen is too regrettable.

Intrigant plot but the tone becomes quickly unbearable

The plot might seem interesting: an arranged marriage between the future emperor and the (chubby and not very attractive) daughter of the Highest Councillor.

But the tone of the drama, whimsical, even comic, with many overplayed characters, repetitive coincidences, becomes painful, more than funny! The OSTs are in the same tone (shifted to accentuate the Comedy aspect). The apotheosis is the end in Bollywood's style...

Moreover, this romance between the emperor and his wife does not show real chemistry. There are no cute or intimate scenes! In short, I couldn't believe this couple.

I watched it untill the end of curiosity, but even if I like ML, I will certainly not rewatch this drama.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
