The script had an interesting element or another, but the writer created characters that weren't captivating. At first the female protagonist is irritating and the male protagonist does not arouse any empathy. The 'villains' are characters without a defined history, little is said about them. The supporting characters, for the most part, do not captivate, as they are irritating or bordering on idiocy. The open ending wouldn't even be the worst thing if it was well-crafted.
The cast is made up of good actors, but the performances in this drama are far below what they usually present. The only really convincing performance is by guest star Leon Lai, by the way, it's not the first time that his work has caught my attention, even though he's a supporting actor like in Ancienty love poetry, Legend of Fu Yao, The flame's daughter or Love in flames of war your work is exceptional.
Regarding the protagonist couple, I have doubts if there was a lack of 'chemistry' between the actors or if they just did their best to compose such insipid characters.
Voice capture is a separate issue, as the voice was not always consistent with the actors' expressions. Some felt like they were just reading the text without any emotion. The Santa Negra character's laugh was ridiculous, as it didn't fit at all with the actress's expression.
The soundtrack is very harmonious, the costumes are well designed and the effects used are pleasant to look at.
Regarding the direction, I think the director missed the chance to take advantage of excellent actors, even though the script is not spectacular, a good direction can correct some deficiencies in the text and create a memorable work. The direction took the drama very slowly, took care of the visual editing and got distracted in the gaps left by the plot, as well as in the care of the editing with the voices.
This is a drama I watched and I couldn't either laugh or cry from start to finish.

Heartbreaking Ending

The drama was wonderful. the story line was good but they need to improve the execution of the drama. the acting and cast are good and I ended up with a box of tissues to wipe my tear in the last episode. but the ending is incomplete the drama has an open ending which disappointed me. the ending spoiled everything but other than that this drama is wonderful .
I will recommend this drama to people who don't mind open endings only. the plot is an interesting one and The leads and rest of the cast are experienced and good-looking. Plot holes appear and the investigation drags on.
I think that because of the the production team the drama ends up being average.

Love the actors...but such a disappointment ?

I guess I just don't get why the FL has to come across like this. A lot overbearing and sometimes just plain stupid. I've read a lot of reviews about lack of chemistry between the ML and FL...this would be the reason for me. Lol . But seriously, these types of character puts a damper on the dramas for me. How can they be described as strong, bada$$ females and then act all silly and out of character? I know I will probably get bashed, but sometimes this just killed it for me. No lie, I waited for this... so disappointed. It's nothing personal about any of the actors... just the directions given for the roles.

a rollercoaster of events and too much unfolding...

IM SURPRISED THAT PEOPLE REALLY LIKED, I have a different opinion...
1) I was super excited to see both the female and male lead( as I like them both) but this pairing just doesnt work.
2) IF YOU ARE HERE FOR ROMANCE, YOU CAN SKIP THIS DRAMA! LITTLE TO NO ROMANCE AT ALL, not to mention that they leads have no chemistry what soever. Female lead is pretty and male lead is someone handsome but together, it doesnt work.
3) The setting and plot had a lot of potential but fell really short
4) the development of this story stop making much sense and just unraveled one thing after another.

Backstory: There are two types of group the people group and the one with some of power. The two group fight against each other. The male lead Lu Yan is human general and gets injured. Female lead is the goddess of the Ling( the ones with power. She ends up saving the male lead by taking her own ling power and giving it to male lead. THe female lead turned into a feather and the general is there to make sure the feather getse enough ling power for the female lead to come back out.

Fast forward.... Yu deng deng ( female lead now) is a bandit and awakens the general. Basically they try to get the ling power out of her. He marries her and encounters various things. Like the evil Ling general , who wants to kill the general to get the Ling power for himself.

Its a roller coaster of it being interesting and then boring... to finally stop watching it.. first it was the evil ling general, now somehow her evil sister/ inner self comes out... wtf... like can the story get any worst...

Lifeless

Okay. I watched this drama because of Ren Jialun and had high expectation because the director is one of the directors of "The Untamed"- probably why, I am so disappointed.

Ren Jialun, was really charming as Changyi (Blue Whisper), so even though that drama has lots of boring and cringey parts, I at least managed to finish it and re-watched my favorite parts. I even started to like Dilraba because of that, even though I always avoid her dramas.

However, this drama doesn't have that charm. Not even my love for Ren Jialun could keep me from getting bored(although he is still handsome in this drama) it's just that... there's just something that this drama really lacks... Maybe charm? it just felt lifeless.

I have no problem with slow burner dramas (I even managed to finish Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace) but this one was just one of those that really... seems hard to finish. It's extremely slow.

And it doesn't help that the main couple has ZERO chemistry.
I saw a lot of people say that Dilraba and RJ has no chemistry, but they at least look good together. But the main couple on this one just don't have that... I just don't get that giddy feeling that I should be getting from the Main couple.

I only saw LQ in three dramas (The Wolf, Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace and Princess Agent). I am not really fan of her acting but she was good in Princess Agent, so I think those roles suits her best... not the noisy or hyper girl like this one.

I am sure the reason for the lack of life of this drama is not the main cast.. because you can see they tried their best.
I mostly blame it to the writers and the producers.
The writers probably wanted to try something new but doesn't know how to execute it.
The producers who are in charge of editing is also at fault.

I'm putting it on hold at epispde 13, maybe I will try to watch it again when the drama has ended or when I no longer have anything better to watch.

Xianxia in the Repulican Era

My first impression of this drama was: what the heck is this with a fusion of everything (不伦不类)? Among others, there's a mixture of costumes - Republican era cheongsams and qipao, xianxia’s ethereal robes, historical military uniform and costumes for the commoners, wild wild west cowboy attire with hand guns on the sides (Gu Beixi), Indiana Jones explorer leather jacket and boots (Yu Dengdeng), English noble man tuxedo and long boots (Lu Yan). Then I found the storyline to be quite unique and refreshing. If not for the self-dubbed voices of both leads, this is a rather watchable drama.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean their voices are not good. In fact, they have great voices individually, but when the voices are put together with the others in dialogs, they sound out of place - the female voice (Li Qin’s) is cringy with too high pitch and sounds forced, whereas the male voice (Ren Jialun’s) is too soft, uncertain and lack energy. Some viewers can’t bear listening to their voices and drop the drama.

This is a love story about a prince of the human race and a goddess of the spirit clan three thousand years ago. When Lu Yan (Ren Jialun) the prince was killed in battle, the goddess Yun Xi (Li Qin) was devastated. She took out her own “yuan dan”, injected it into the prince and revived him. Without her “yuan dan”, the goddess perished. For the prince, with “yuan dan”, he becomes a half-human and half-spirit with supernatural power. He guarded the goddess hoping one day she would return.

Three thousand years later, Yu Dengdeng (Li Qin) went into a cave and accidentally bumped into Lu Yan and woke him. To Lu Yan, Yu Dengdeng looks exactly like the goddess Yun Xi he has been waiting for. The story of their second life begins.

Lu Yan is very good looking but a cold person with few words. With Yun Xi’s “yuan dan” still within him, he has tremendous healing power and he can ward off all his adversaries by a wave of his hand. I started to like Ren Jialun’s acting in Under the Power. But here, I can’t say he is doing well. He has very few facial expressions and little body language except a constant frowned face. There are many instances of hesitant as if he doesn’t know what to do. I’m not sure if this is due to poor acting, or poor directing, or poor editing, or all of the above.

Yu Dengdeng is the head of a camp. She is carefree, crass and domineering. She falls in love with Lu Yan at first sight and takes him as her husband by force. I have to say, though Li Qin is beautiful with great acting skills, she doesn’t fit the Yu Dengdeng character very well; her demeanor as a crass woman feels forced and unnatural. With her screechy voice, some scenes are unbearable to watch.

Many viewers find there’s a lack of chemistry between Li Qin and Ren Jialun. Until the end of the story, I’m not even sure if Lu Yan loves Yu Dengdeng despite he sacrifices himself for her. When they embrace, Lu Yan is stiff and seems to keep a distance from Yu Dengdeng. He has no desire for her. They have never kissed.

In fact I find Gu Beixi (Chen Xijun) to have excellent chemistry with Yu Dengdeng. Gu Beixi is the head of another camp that has quarrels with Yu Dengdeng’s people from time to time, therefore Yu Dengdeng is always suspicious of him and doesn’t treat him very friendly. Gu Beixi has an upfront personality and has been in love with Yu Dengdeng since childhood. After he meets Bai Shiqi (Wu Mingjing) who is the daughter of a police chief, Gu Beixi begins to have feelings for her and let go of Yu Dengdeng whom he knows he’ll never get, for Yu Dengdeng is deeply in love with Lu Yan.

Bai Shiqi is a sweet character. Wealthy but without the bratty demeanor. She is gentle, well-read and kind, but very strong when it comes down to the crunch. Betrothed to Gu Beixi from young, she gracefully let go of him when she realizes he is in love with Yu Dengdeng instead.

My Verdict

It’s a disaster for any production that, all the other actors perform very well for their respective roles except the main leads. First of all, I feel the issue is with the selection of the main actors; Li Qin doesn’t fit the role as the crass Yu Dengdeng, Ren Jialun barely makes it as Lu Yan, but his performance is not up to standard. Secondly, the self-voice dubbing is a disaster though many viewers prefer the actors’ own voices. For me, I would say, it depends. Thirdly, I feel Lu Yan doesn’t really love Yu Dengdeng except he just wants to fulfill his obligation for her. Therefore, this is hardly a heart-wrenching love story when it’s only one-sided. Whether this is what the writer has intended, this is the feeling it conveys for me and many viewers.

Nonetheless, the storyline is refreshing, not your usual xianxia. Watchable if you are waiting in between dramas or have nothing to watch, or you’re a Li Qin’s or Ren Jialun’s fan.

My score here is mainly awarded to the acting of the other actors and the story.

Interesting hybrid xianxia

I love RJL so I will always try to watch his dramas - though I prefer historical more than modern. This one is like a mix - modern (Republican era) but with some fantasy. It is a bit slow and I admit it's not the strongest RJL character but I still like it. Li Qin was ok but I think she also did better in her other dramas, or maybe I'm just not really a fan of her character in this one. Bonus point: all the songs are beautiful. RJL sang the opening song and his voice really suits the song. I would still recommend this one especially if you want to watch something different,

Unique Drama - strengths & weaknesses are balanced

So this is my 2nd review. I think I only write to defend a drama. While I do feel a lot of the previously stated negatives are valid, I just want to say that Allen Ren’s character comes across as emotionless because it is built into the story. It is said that while he was asleep those 3000 years, transferring energy into the last remnant of the Saintress (feather) that he would risk becoming indifferent. That said I found a few characters annoying. I feel acting was okay but characters were written to be a bit grating. Li Qin is supposed to be a rough, lady bandit so she’s not meant to play the demure damsel. That Gu fella that likes her is also a bit over the top in his impulsiveness and single-mindedness. I just don’t love many of the characters, but that said, this is also the uniqueness and freshness of the drama. I’ve never watched another republic fantasy romance drama about bandits and spirits. I think they are few and far between if indeed there is another one out there. I am watching because I like Ren Jia Lun and I’ve just finished everything else I think worth watching: love Love Like The Galaxy, like Love Between Fairy & Devil (but not love). Need me a modern drama for a change of pace…

Ren Jialun is one of my fave actor..ived watch him in " One & Only" & Forever & Ever" those two dramas marked in my heart..but in this drama..he disappoint me..only the FL, lead the story..hes facial expression never improve when it comes to romance..theres no romance at all...the writer and the director must focus in Rens acting in the future..cause hes always the male lead...In "One & Only" his acting fits for him..coz Bai Lu was the one whose urging to fall from his attention..but this one is different cause hes the one seeking and waiting for the saintness comeback..when she finally found that the Fl is the Saintness..his actions/romance towards the FL does not change at all!!haha..luckily the FL is smart in making the drama sparkling..i think Ren Jialun does not fit in romance drama..why dont they try him in other roles..the second ML Gu Beixing was more romantic than Ren in this drama..though his not that handsome as Ren..wish in the future that Ren could improve more of his facial expression when it comes to romance..cause more of the viewers like me are always searching and looking for a romance or romcom drama with a great casting and story..

Nice story

First episodes I confused about the story, it's like first leader of yu (yun xi) married to a cock as a first husband, and than she married to a human as second husband and people call him as a mrs yu. I was more interest in episode that telling us about ancient shu kingdom when the general met his assistent. I love then about the misteries inside. But finally I had to watch the last episode that was sad ending. I was hope that they would meet each other because the bodies of lu yan and xin was not found.
This story also told me about how the relationship was between leader yu and both of her father, their love and their care.
I love the soundtrack during this serial.
I like the main roll who acted as leader yu (yun xi) , and also lu yan but lu yan's face was very kind as a general of military.
About the costume, it's good looking especially for yun xi and lu yan.
I love thousand years for you, I want ti give rate 8.5.
You have to wath it

Simplesmente maravilhoso!

Esse é tanto o meu segundo c-drama republicano quanto histórico, algo que foge do que estou acostumada. Os tradicionais rom-com chinês.
Inicie pelo elenco e estou me surpreendendo bastante.
