We need Ozempic now and keep it coming!

In the olden days, you used to be able to find a good romance with ease but now we speak of them in hush tones reserved for half-forgotten legends. What we mostly find nowadays are shows burdened with angsts and sufferings to the point of needing to put Suicide Helpline on speed dial. Ditto some of those plots are so convoluted that you feel like you are watching 3 different genres at the same time and have to keep the wiki page open for reference.

Well, this Show is quite the exception. It is not perfect, and the plot can fit comfortably on the back of a small napkin, but this show will make you swoon. It is industrial grade fluff and should come with a health warning. Having said that, it is also surprisingly enjoyable.

To be honest, the first few episodes was not encouraging. I was wondering where the show is heading. It is harmless enough but also uninspired. Basically, the meet-cute comes down to the FL having a 4-year crush on her handsome boss and when she finally worked up the courage to confess, he promptly rejected her. Of course, he regretted it almost immediately, but the dice is casted.

The show really shifts up a gear when the Show flips the role and now the ML is doing all the chasing. Yes, my dear Drama Anonymous friends, it is as tropey as it sounds. What elevated the simple plot is the chemistry and visual of the OTP. The longer they interact, the better their chemistry. It is hard to pinpoint so I'll just put it down to romantic screen voodoo, c'est l'amour. BTW, they don’t shy away from skinship and there are quite a few passionate kisses. However, they (oddly) remain chaste until they got the marriage licence and then it was baby making time . . . baby!

This is further aided by the lack of any silly shenanigans involving evil second leads or non-sensical breakups. Quite to the contrary, the Show has a very positive take on romance and when relationships are made public, there are no jealous side-eyes or sly remarks. It seems the whole drama-verse is shipping them. BTW, the ML’s parents are a hoot.

There are some angst but they are due to external forces and each challenge helps to push them closer. It is a tried and tested strategy. Hey, if it's not broken . . .

If one OTP is not enough, there is a 2OTP towards the end of the show. The pairing is quite nice. Their sweet romance is easy to ship. Wait, there is more! A 3OTP literally pops into existence in the dying moment of the show which is not necessary but who’s counting. As I mentioned before, this Show is one oxytocin overload and hazard to diabetes.

Acting is good from our leads. The ML is totally in his element. The FL injects enough spunk to give her character some depth. Well, relatively speaking. Support cast earn their keeps but some do lean towards overacting. OST is nice and appropriate.

As I mentioned before, the Show is not perfect. The plot is single minded and some narrative logic are pushed aside in the name of expediency. Some might find it transparent and overly sweet. I won't argue. It might not appeal to everyone so I can only say caveat emptor. Somehow it works for me. Must be something in the water. Enjoy!

A Sweet and Breezy Workplace Romance

I’m not a huge fan of Chinese modern dramas; I mostly steer clear of them. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will notice that I tend to lean more towards wuxia and xianxia dramas. As such, the only reason to start this one was- angst, lots of angst and more angst. Adapted from the novel “Dui Ni Bu Zhi Shi Xi Huan” (对你不止是喜欢) by Mo Yan Chuan (陌言川), the show stars Wei Zhe Ming and Huang Ri Ying in the lead roles, Tang Yu & Tang Xin. Yes, they share the same surnames, something that I have never seen in a Chinese drama before. I just started this drama on a wimp (because I had nothing else to watch) and surprisingly grew to like the characters as well as their individual stories. Technically, the show wades through different romances; but in the end, we only get two happy couples. The workplace setting, the premise of unrequited love adds a rustic touch to the story line and makes the characters even more intriguing. Let’s sit down and talk about my favorite moments in this sublime romance!

Sweet & cute romantic series with Miles Wei

PLOT: FL, author and screenwriter, had a crush on her boss, ML, for 4 years. He asked her for help in courting her best friend, in vain, since she had just gotten married. The FL then decides to confess to the ML, who rejects her quite brutally. She resigns and goes to work on the script for her movie. The ML then realizes how indispensable she is to him and decides to court her.

PROS:
+ Miles Wei is ML, handsome, as always.
+ The series is less prudish than usual, and the viewer can see to a lot of kisses and great chemistry in the CL.
+ An endearing CL2, with a sweet romance and convincing visuals.
+ No break-up, no unnecessary love triangle.
+ loving and encouraging families.

CONS:
- The part where the FL refuses to accept the ML (whom she loves) because she was hurt and she is not convinced of his sincerity, is way too long!!
- The final Happy Ending for everyone is a bit simplistic: The CL2 makes their relationship public, without consequences. The ML puts all his assets in his wife's name. The 2 single people who remain, will probably form a couple, etc.

Nice, cute series, but not memorable.

+ No break-up, no unecessary love triangle.
+ des familles aimantes et encourageantes.

CONS:

Fun plot and amazing leads

The beginning of the show was excellent, there was amazing chemistry between the main leads and it had me on the edge of my seat. I ended up giving it a 7/10 because around the second half, it slowed down a little and I found myself becoming bored with the lead couple. The second couple is what kept me watching until the end.

I personally wouldn't re-watch this show although I think it was a good watch and I would recommend it to others as something light-hearted and simple.

Creepy, stalker, bordering on assault relationship- a toxic train wreck

I really liked the cast, so it was hard to watch them portray such a horrible relationship.
She confesses her love him, he turns her down over a misunderstanding. She leaves and then he decides to pursue her. It SHOULD be a sweet story, but it’s awful. Both characters (at different times) force a one-sided, unwelcome, almost violent kiss on the other. He chases her down at work, interferes with her job, is jealous of EVERYONE, repeatedly grabs her by the arm and drags her around, etc. He seems much more interested in possessing her than in “wooing” her. It’s difficult to watch. I’d have stopped watching if not for the side story. Yang and Zhang present a much more enjoyable story, and they really are so sweet together.
The story between DingDing and Huo starts off intriguing, but is left a little too vague. The story seemed to skip over some key points that would have tied it together.
Then the last couple of episodes were very rushed and lacked any story at all. They seemed more of an afterthought because the obligatory “happily ever after” scenes hadn’t happened yet.
Don’t waste your time.

everything was perfect, but it could be better

dropped in ep19 .. the storyline is really really good I liked there's a Chinese FL who really cares a lot for her dignity and has self_esteem, Strong Minded doesn't lose her mind for such a man (crush/love) and she can really hide her Love if it will hurt her and her Dignity, and I liked that clingy Shameless ML who do everything to get his Love ,and I liked the production and decorations .. it's really perfect

but the whole show was really boring I can't handle, okay there were many things happened but it all were boring, even the funny scenes were so normal nothing special I didn't Laugh at ! even flirty scenes were not so strong as it should be

There's no chemistry between main leads at ALL, and FL's provocative smile was very fake and annoying, and she doesn't have any other reactions

I really loved the ost so far, perfect
but the drama? Come on I can't, I barely finished those 19 Eps

it it could be better

Interesting and different, despite the drawn-out ending

I want to start by saying that this is Miles Wei's best drama, without any doubt (my personal opinion)

I May Love You reminded me a little of The Love You Give Me in some ways, especially in the way FL makes ML have to fight for her. In my opinion, nothing more fair for two male protagonists who didn't try hard enough when it was necessary.

Following with my review, I want to highlight that, just like in Rising With The Wind, we have obstacles that make sense. There are no annoying second females or second leads - although the director, Mr. Lu, fell in love in 3 seconds of the scene with 3 different people, and one of them was FL -, or controlling and irritating families interfering in their son's relationships as if they could not have autonomy.
Yes, we had misunderstandings... and there were several (lol) but, at least, they were being resolved one by one.

FL's development was very interesting, I really loved the way she matured and instead of making a man the center of her life, she started to focus on herself and her work. That was admirable. And best of all: she didn't go back on her decision, even after admitting her feelings.

ML is also the typical role that Miles usually plays, however, I think this role of his is a more mature, sexier and more interesting role than the others. It still has that "science teacher" and "mommy's boy at 30" vibe, but anyway, I think it's my favorite character out of all the characters he's played.

Regarding the secondary characters, I really liked Secretary Hao, I also liked ML's cute sister, and FL's best friend. Although I thought ML's best friend was an empty character, he surprised me with a levelheadedness that I didn't expect.

However, despite all the positive aspects I mentioned, I think that the excessive conveniences, such as ML's sister suddenly becoming an actress - just for the couple's plot with the director - and the delay for the couple to get together, made the last 4 episodes became dragging for me.

At some point, I just wanted to finish the series.
Anyway, I May Love You is surprisingly better than I expected, it has GREAT performances - especially Huang Ri Ying, who was really great on her role - and delivered excellent chemistry between the main actors.

It deserves more attention and recognition, in fact.

Suckers for ‘Men fell harder’ trope

I actually just stumbled upon this on WeTV when I’m out of dramas to watch. Since I’m quite fond of Miles Wei and the synopsis is interesting, I gave it a try.

To my surprise, I actually love overall of the story. I like the push and pull that the FL gives, I like how consistent she tried not to accept the ML love after his rejection - even she actually still love him. I like how she play hard to get, and didn’t gave in easily. Also, I LIKE that she’s SMART AND HARDWORKING.

Side characters are all nice, no draggy dramas and conflicts.

Overall, it’s a great story with pretty good actors and actress. You should give it a try since it’s just 24 episodes!

Oh yes, I just wish they did some change with their wardrobe, ML’s suits always repeated even he is supposed to be rich CEO and the FL is almost always in a bun (wish they tried some other hairstyles too, she looks pretty with hair down too).

Tierno
