This drama has a Great realization in life. “Immortal Samsara “.

Immortal Samsara- this drama is true to its title. This drama realizes our life or our cycle of life. First they’ve shown where immortals came from like Yandan she came from a flower, Yumo from a fish. Then they become immortal and have long life but if you commit a mistake you have to be reincarnated to be mortal. The mortal world you have to encounter 8 sufferings after tbat you returned being immortal if not you have to go through that suffering again until you make it. They said TangZhou always dream. YingYuan has a beautiful dream too he dream being married to Yandan and they had a child. They want us to show that life on earth is really just a dream. We love but we love unconditionally we should give everything. After all the experiences that we’ve been through we will return to dust. We will reunite with nature. But again we can be reincarnated again as human or with deep cultivation we can be mortals again then return to dust again. Our life is like immortal Samsara it is a never ending cycle of life. I really thankful for this drama realizing how life can be. Truly one great lesson that leave a mark into it’s viewers. I love the story it is unique you should have an opened mind to realize it. I love the plot. I love all the actor’s especially Yang Zi and Cheng Yi they are the best. Yang Zi she’s like Yandan very talented and smart. Cheng Yi, he is like Tang Zhou and Ying Yuan very responsible respectful and polite. Xuan Ye, I realize that we cannot have both worlds we should not be greedy in our life. We should know our priorities and how to be contented in our life. Truly this drama is a great realization in life. Thank you so much for the writer, crew, staff and directors producer’s. Their ost are also great! The lyrics had a great meanings also the melodies. Overall I’m enjoying the two most beautiful actors who had a great chemistry. It’s hard to move on from this drama. I will miss Cheng Yi and Yang Zi. 😭❤️😍

Decent but draggy second part. to a decent but draggy drama

The second part started off very promising, the female lead felt all grown up end empowered the male lead had also gone through a whole lot of character growth and the slightly annoying characters had little to no screen time...

While most of the characters seemed to have more lives than Bruce Willis in Die Hard there seemed to come a point where peoples who died actually stayed dead, and unless there is a 3ed season the meaning of life and death may actually seem... well meaningful... odd for this type of drama but it could actually happen here (I am not gonna tell you who though because that may actually spoil it). There are some really good scenes here and there, great lines about catered and power..

Such as " The more you hate Spirits the more you can do for me"

All very good indeed...

However some of the twists were a bit too predictable (even for the inexperienced viewer), there is a lot of unnecessary draggy dialog, boring fight scenes... poor graphics, the type that look like an old computer game from the early 00s and while the syrup kept flowing, there was some point where it felt like someone had a thing for vampires, as most of the looked like newly fed vampires just a little bit to many times...

Still I did love the leads.. could be a bias towards the actors, could be that they had lovely chemistry and nice dialog between them, So I guess they are the reason I kept watching and rated it an 8 instead of lower. I wish the plot would have focused more on them and given them more playful and romance time for these two, I also wish the plot made more sense to me...

I can't move on from this drama. It is just perfect!

Well, there are a whole lot of appraisals I have for this very beautifully woven piece of art that consolidates the typical as well as atypical Chinese Wuxia drama and its essence.

Regardless of the fact that I have been an ardent admirer of the acting prowesses of our two leads, Cheng Yi and Yang ZI who gave us a mouthful chunk of brilliance in one of their previous sensational and critically acclaimed independent movies (were the former casted unbelievably beautifully as Si Feng, alongside Yang Binguan, another breathtaking actress in Love and Redemption, and the latter, Jin Mi in Ashes of Love, alongside, De Lung), the chemistry between these two surpassed our expectations and it felt nothing short of real, there were clearly scenes that were too painful and excruciating for me to take in and it hurt for each episode tailed on the suspense flank, it was torture to wait for subsequent episodes and during those very suspense thrilled nights, I would find myself imagining possible plots and giving explanations to the things that hurt and why they did, all in futile efforts of easing my pain. It felt so real. The suspension of disbelief reached its peak and every one of us hurt and empathized with every character.

This drama is the quintessence of a well invested in, choreographed and directed drama, all things were done perfectly. I can reference this fact to the BTS (Behind the scenes ), a very beautiful and unburdening series.

The drama is rich and sopping-wet with themes that are well exemplified through a beautiful interrelated complexity of plots and storylines and the aboveboard chemistry among the casts. The well emphasized themes are love, sacrifice, and responsibility.
The OSTs are perfect and I listen to them every time, particularly, Agarwood sung by Jane Zhang and Jason Zhang.
Listening to the OSTs are no different from watching those scenes that hurt.

This is a drama I will never be weary of watching.
I am rewatching this drama of 61 episodes for the third time and watched and rewatched hundreds of clip-scences.

I finally binged the drama, it took me around 2 weeks.
I would like to share some thoughts I had, while I watched it. My review is for whole drama (both Part 1 and Part 2). I may occasionaly mention Ancient Love Poetry drama since IS reminded me it a lot in terms of general plot and my love-hate feelings towards drama. Also, it will contain spoilers.

Overall, I would say IS is very decent drama, which kept me engaged throughout all episodes, has good but slightly overused VFX, production values and amazing chemistry between all charachters.
The strongest thing about the drama is definitely casting. Tbh, most of the drama (except mid part in mortal realm), I felt CP was toxic for each other, but chemistry between Yang Zi and Cheng Yi is so amazing you just want them together badly no matter what happens on screen. I wish writers gave them more romantic scenes together, since I feel it was a bit of a waste to not utilize on the couple chemistry more.
About charachters:
Yumo is definetely the best charachter in the show. Not often Cdramas create such a great SML, he selfless, kind and genuinely cared for both YanDan and Tangzhou. I loved that he just always wanted for YD to be happy, even if she couldn't return his feelings, he never pushed her and denied her right to do what she wanted. It was really annoying that in later part of the drama it felt that he became a secondary charachter and there wasn't many scenes with him. He was forever sent to protect spirits spliting him with YD anf TZ, which was really a pity since I consider parts where main trio fight ad uncover mysteries together as the strongest parts of the show. And in the end his charachter wasnt even given much closure, it felt that his story just abruptly ended.
Ying Yuan / TangZhou character I didnt like much in the begining of the story, he mistreated YD a lot in the first part as YY, here I got flashbacks to ALP where I just hated ML in the end, when he made suffer FML with protecting and saving her as his reasons. In what way letting your loved one be abused, wounded, mistreated and inflicting emotional pain is saving the person I would never understand. Why just not tell the truth... Even though I watched many romance xianxia this troupe still frustrates me so much. I am glad that in contrast with APL that fake betrayal part happened in the begining and actually was used as charachter development ark for YY. He understood his mistakes and wasn't willing to do them again. Although they are the same person, I loved TZ (what's with Cheng Yi always playing charachters who isn't allowed to love ^^) character slightly more than YY, maybe because he was more carefree and open. But YY I came to love too, such a tragic charachter, which suffered a lot, I was happy that after regaining his memories he was willing to fight for both his love and to protect the world. And Cheng Yi is just so good looking in those majestic clothes as YY, i didn't like other costumes much, cause they were as in every other xianxia drama, but his wardrobe was amazing. Also, he portrays emotions and heartbreak just so well.
Yan Dan.... I hope, I won't get hate from fans, but YD is my least favourite characher of the show. As I said before kudos to casting people, if they didn't cast such a charming actress as Yang Zi I would probably totaly hated her character towards the end. I couldn't understand her reasoning for rejecting YY at all after he regained his memories. I liked her charachter until that point of the show even when she was cruel to YY when she remembered her past. It was understandable that she wasnt willing to reconcile before his memories returned because she was afraid being left again but after? Was she bitter and not forgiven him? Was it revenge? Had she not overcome their past? I could even go with it, if it was pointed towards that in the drama, but we only got her constant We won't be together. And at the same time she always showed that she was still very much in love and willing to do everything for YY, so he couldn't actually move on. That part of the story felt very confusing to me. Just why they couldn't be together? TT Give them kisses, happy romantic moments. But no, I had to watch full 59 episodes with CP never be real couple apart from dream sequince in the begining. Sigh... And also, she didn't even say Goodbye to Yumo when dying... Double sigh...

About the plot. IS bacisally same plot as any other xianxia romance drama. But I like xianxia and mostly enjoy (except missunderstadings parts, it always gets on my nerves) even repetative plots if they done correctly. I know many people say this drama is too draggy, but maybe because I watched it mostly on higher speed and fast forward some filler parts, I didn't feel it too boring. It was action packed, and plot moved forward nicely, except some episodes in heaven in part 2, when there was too much talking and nothing was going on. The drama probably could loose 3-5 episodes but overall I liked the pacing. The surprising thing I loved Mortal realm ark the most, which is very weird, cause I always don't like that part in xianxia. I loved all small cases trio investigated, they were interesting with good supporting charachters, resolved pretty quickly, and most of them were nicely integrated to the main plot. And I just love the parts where YD, TZ and SM resolve smth together, they have great dynamics. All in all, I enjoyed most of the plot, except maybe last 10 episoded where plot a bit lagged. Editing seemed worse too, with some scenes randomly appearing without prior setup. Main villain was decent, I am glad he was given proper story and wasn't made completely evil with no feelings. However, I wish final evil was YY farther, his story was so fascinating although it was briefly told. That was another waste, story of YY parents was very well told but at the end it was useless in terms of main plot. Why were we told it? Just to know his backround? I thought we gonna get back time altering artifact his farther used, but it wasn't shown. And YY helping his farther redeem, I thought it was a nice way to show how he surpressed his demon's powers, but then we had the ending... Well, I guess, it wouldn't be xianxia if they not have unnecessary tradegy in the end XD. I always tell myself to just get used to it.

So, all in all, I rate IS as strong 8, with Part 1 as 8.5. It isn't best Cdrama of 2022 for me but it is definetely one of memorable one. I would probably even rewatch some parts I especially enjoyed and remember this drama for showing beautiful friendship.

Made me cry so much!

I truly loved how Tang Zhou loved Yan Dan and thereafter Ying Yuan 2.0 made me enjoy so much! Their love story is matured so its more about sacrifices they are willing to make for each other. Their love knows no boundaries esp when Yan Dan finally understood why the realms peace is much more important that anything else. Yan Dan became matured and Ying Yuan/Tang Zhou learned how to love and express himself. Its very relatable in our everyday life. Communication is the key to everything and one will sacrifice for the person he/she loves and also prioritise the world. This is how the world is supposed to be.

Tastes like fine wine ? Yes ! Bitter but you want to have it anyway. Best Xianxia of 2022.

I am not wrong when I am saying that it surpasses even Ashes of Love in terms of storyline.
It is executed by keeping in mind the bigger picture.
From the 1st to 59th episode it didnt leave its essence. The show didnt deflect from its core value and it acchived eventually.
" There is responsibilty to protect our loved one and one cannot be selfish in the establishment of greater good. Though you should cherish the moment you have in present with your loved one."

Agarwood perishes but it fragrance lingers. 🤍

Immortal Samasra or how to get disgusted with Xianxia Cdrama

After watching Part 1, I couldn't write a review. I really didn't know what to say, the show was far away from my expectations. I couldn't say the storyline was bad it wasn't but it wasn't good either. How could I agree with the fact that love between immortals was forbidden ? This sounded really silly to me. How could deity who are supposed to be a billion times more clever and wiser than humans could forbid the more valuable thing in the world ? How could such an evil law have been established in Heavenly Realm ? That was absolute nonsense to me !
So, of course forbidden love will be there and you'll have to pay for it !
As always, to redeem yourself there is the mortal realm. But you have to cross the river of forgetfulness. For Yandan (Yang Zi) it will take 800 years, her spirit was about to burst into ashes for she couldn't forget her loved one Yingyuan (Cheng Yi). It was terrible to watch her unable to cross the river... Finally Yingyuan will help her and will punish himself. To save his own life, he will have to live as a mortal and find 4 artefacts to heal his heart and not perish for ever. That's when part 2 begins.
I really hoped Part 2 would be better than Part 1, but it wasn't. Too many plots, too many flaws and interactions between Heavenly realm and mortal realm when they are not supposed to be. A nonsense again ! The storyline went on more and more messy with our two lovers more and more disappointing us. Few love scenes, I love you, I don't love you, I love you, I can't love you, I forgive you, I can't forgive you, I love you, I die for you, You can't, I can... Oh my God ! Why is it like this ? Why is it all so boring ? No consistance in this love, only sufferings. Why do we always have this kind of actions ? Why love shoud be painful with misunderstandings and grudges ?
More terrible than the uninteresting storyline is the fact that the actors themselves were jsut boring ! Yang Zi is Yang Zi : always the same facial expressions, always the same kind of xianxia's character. She was more fresh in Ashes of love, for sure. Cheng Yi is just the puppet of himself in here, or shall I say a shadow. In Love and redemption, he was so much into his character, but in here he seems tired, I didn't sense any sincerity. His facial expressions were just a mask he put on, always the same mask. How boring ! How disgusting !
Can producers and directors give him a chance to play real different characters, some comedy where we can laugh with him, where we can laugh because of him ?
This show was really not enjoyable. It's a waste of time watching it. The end is ridiculous. Part 2 is not good at all.
If you want to enjoy yourself in a Xianxian Cdrama, you can watch Love between fairy and devil, full of love and nice moments (best 2022 cdrama for me until now).

Can be an unforgettable drama

I write this review for all part of this drama because it's easier to give opinion for the whole completed series.

Story: Not very special one though still has interesting part. I really love the first part when the story is telling about Ying Yuan as sovereign lord and Yan Dan as his attendant. Their relationship's progression is so sweet, how they started to fall for each other and the feelings grow to unrequited love. The second part is half-half for me, some I like yet some are just plain. I like Tang Zhou because he is like an opposite personality from Ying Yuan, but Yan Dan in the second part is so stiff and awkward with her feeling. And it continues to the third part, when Yan Dan still withhold her love and anger for Ying Yuan. The most impressive part is the last couple episodes, when at last Yan Dan and Ying Yuan admit their feelings for each other.

Acting: The reason this drama can be a hot viral drama is the lead actors. Their acting is remarkably exquisite. They can trigger audience's emotion with their eyesight and face expression. Cheng Yi as three different characters, every character has strong characteristic from playful, kind to arrogant. And he plays all characters exceedingly impressive. Yang Zi as Yan Dan just show us her first class acting, emotional and amusing. Their chemistry also very compelling, I just want more for their romantic scenes.

Music: All the original score and soundtrack are very beautiful and suitable for this drama. I have no complaint, love it

Overall: This drama can be an top notch drama if they reduced the episodes. Too long and too many unnecessary side story. I expected this drama can be heavy romance dramatic one like Love and Redemption, but I got disappointed. Perhaps this drama targeted more mature audiences with more mature mind.

Could have been, should have been, but wasn’t

The story was decent so this could have been and should have been an epic drama but wasn’t.

Though I liked the twists in the story, the way it unraveled could have been done in a more impactful manner. The way the story was edited and put together was a bit lacking at times and felt jerky thus detracting me from immersing myself in the drama. Parts of the story was draggy so it was easy to lose interest.

It’s saving grace for me was the beautifully imagined sets and props. The CGI on the deity’s powers which had wonderfully animated spiralling “smoke”, power or fire was gorgeous to see on the tv screen.

While the final showdown was done well, I was surprised to see that after all the fierce fighting, the ML managed to take down the villain without any major power move. What a wasted opportunity to give a big wow ending to this battle. How the ML and FL managed to escape after this showdown was too convenient. No explanation on this and to top it off, the ending was a bit too abrupt and not what I would have liked.

Watch this only if you are willing to not question the storyline too much and if you are a fan of the FL and ML.

Beautiful! Rewatch Worthy!

Beautifully done. When I first went into the show, I wondered why there were so many episodes (Part 1 & Part 2 included). I was also vary because with Cdramas, the higher the number of episodes, the higher the number of misunderstandings. And the endings usually are very rushed and done poorly. Immortal Samsara was a refreshening change from those dramas. The best part about the drama is the story between the main leads, it has everything that you want to see, romance, angst, bickering, devastation, death, and more so.

This was my second time watching the drama and it was better this time around. During my first watch, I was too blinded by everything Yan Dan suffered to give some credit to Ying Yuan and his sacrifices. What's more, he was man enough to admit that he was wrong to have abandoned her. I have seen a lot of dramas where when the ML abandon the FL for their own good, they seldom admit that they messed up. They even double down and claim that they would do it all over again. But that's not Ying Yuan. What little grudge I held against Ying Yuan for abandoning Yan Dan, I happily let go after completing the second part. I am so glad they finally got the happy ending and peace they deserved. (As much peace Ying Yuan can have with Yan Dan's lively personality in their life)

In this part, Zhi Xi's character was much better portrayed, much more expressive, her feelings for Yan Dan much purer, something that I though lacked in the first part. Even before she sacrificed her life, she had redeemed herself and I was glad to see the sisters enjoy a good relationship. I would have liked to see Yan Dan get married to Ying Yuan in the wedding gown left to her by Zhi Xi.

Overall, this isn't my last time rewatching the show. Another great thing about this drama, the poetry series about agarwood, it was so emotionally charged. Wow! And let's not forget the beautiful music that accompanied each and every moment.

Awesome series ❤️ Never felt dragged out and actually felt like I finished it faster

Worth the watch. To all who will watch this series - make sure you watch the two short episodes 60 and 61!!

Acting: 9. Loved all the characters, except the bad guys of course especially that of the main arc. The actors did a very good job of portraying their respective characters. I did form a bond / connection with most of them and routed for a lot of characters - this only possible when the actors do their best. Special mention, Yang Zi a d Cheng Yi who did an awesome job of portraying Yan Dan and Tang Zhou. I really enjoy Cheng Yi's acting and he is a great actor in my humble opinion.

Story: 9 The story unfolded quite well with plot twists and surprises along the way. You could foresee outcome of some plots because of clever hints given - you have to pay attention though. I binged the series even with 59 episodes in total. Never felt dragged out and actually felt like I finished it faster than other series's that were 40 episodes. Bulk of the content felt necessary to get to the finale.

Production and Visual FX were good: 8.5

Ost : 9 music went well with bulk of the scenes.

Rewatch value: 9 Will likely Rewatch some episodes and perhaps entire series if I can't find anything better. That's after I've re-watched my most favorite drama series's of course.
