Wasted Potential

This series could’ve been great. It had everything going for it to be one of the better anthology series, but it was just missing something.

Some of the episodes were really good. My favourite was definitely episode 3, Remember. I thought Sammy did a phenomenal job. The acting and the story had me tearing up, and the ending really broke me. I also really liked episode 1 with SantaEarth, and I really liked how the rest of the series was inter linked with it with Ozone’s story being continued on in other episodes. Episode 6 was also another favourite; my only complaint is that the ending of that episode felt incomplete.

The rest of the episodes were either fine or unwatchable for me. I could not get into the characters or their stories, making it feel like a chore to get through.

Overall, I think this series could’ve been great if they had an episode where all the characters came together in the end and their stories all joined together, kind of like Love Actually. It would’ve made it all the more interesting and concluded some of the episodes that felt unfinished. But in conclusion, I don’t really think this show is worth your time.

This is my Review only on the BL and GL episodes and I’ll give them all combined like 8/10 :

EP.1 Would You Be My Love was really good I give it like 8/10 or 8.5/10, it might be short and doesn't have that much details but the acting and the storyline in general is pretty good and also I like that is it has an open ending but still you know that they are going to be together, also I like that they bring the idea of how the lack of communication can cause you to not be able to connect with the person you love the most for a while and make your relationship in a hard situation, in general it's pretty good yeah it lacks a lot of details but still pretty good that you are going to enjoy just watching this one episode of it, but please be warned there is bullying scenes and also know that you'll feel it’s not enough of SantaEarth wish is really sad, they need their own series their chemistry is pretty good.

EP.3 Remember it had a really good start I like Sammy’s and Pineare’s acting but like what the hell was that plot twist for it just destroyed the story and like I just got pissed off and like what is the reason to destroy Pineare’s character like that, lord I just got frustrated toward the ending while was I exited to see how it’s going to end, also like why give the ex-boyfriend so much screen time like the story doesn’t need this , I give it 7/10 and I am pretty disappointed with ending.

EP.4 Once Upon A Time, this is the one I was really excited for since I love BounPrem, The acting is amazing as always you could see the emotions on their faces and how each one of them is feeling without even talking, but it is a really sad story like why did it has to be like that I was waiting for something happier, the story is so realistic that it hurts as it talks about a real problem that same-sex couple usually face, but you will feel satisfied in the end I give 9/10 or 9.5/10 even I think it’s perfect without the scene in the middle that doesn’t make any sense and didn’t even add anything to the story and none of the characters talk about it again so I think it was just Mek’s friend imagination, it was lovely especially the scene between Prem (Balloon) and Earth (Ozone his brother) and the scene between Boun (Mek) and his friend, I love it.

EP.6 Vs Love was really good I enjoyed the story and how it was written and acted you can see how both actors have grown since their last BL drama you won't be disappointed if you watched this episode you will see how and when did they start to get attached to each other and where their feeling started to grow, what will make you a little bit is like how you wished there was more but it was just like one episode and that's it I'll give it like 8.5/10 or 9/10, to not spoil anything I'm not going to get in details about the story but there are parts were you will be like how can both of those siblings not fight at all like I have a brother and we always fight and they're like twins who love each other always and like support each other and everything so this was a bit unrealistic for me but like I let it pass through cause they were cute and also the idea of like Phupha’s family not believing him and his father always like treating him badly it triggered me, so this was like another thing that was stuck in my head, one of the scenes that I really liked was the one where Tonnam if I know that truth then I'm going to fight for it till it is found like you ,yeah I like this part.

Another Thai BL Anthology Sampler Pack

This show used the same basic model as CLOSE FRIEND in which each couple was only given one 1-2 hour episode. All were established actor pairs (well I think of SantaEarth as established even though this was Santa’s first). I think we already get enough short BL out of Vietnam, Korea, and Taiwan I don’t want it from Thailand in this sampler pack form. I only watched and reviewed the BL ones.

SantaEarth: bullying at boarding school = 5/10
BounPrem: LTR break up because of the closet = 5/10
BoomPeak: 6/10 I JUST LOVE THEM OKAY?
SammyPeniere: GL but it’s all about a boy = 2/10

BoomPeak’s installment gave me nostalgia for days. You will pry my unreasonable adoration for Make it Right from my cold dead hands. Boom is always and forever the prettiest. Look, this was a bromance more than a BL, they ruthlessly borrowed UWMA’s music, they did not kiss, but I DON’T CARE. It still left me with a big grin on my face and I will rewatch it so, it was the winner of the seres for me.

But overall Seven Project was disappointing.

NOT RECOMMENDED (except BoomPeak’s ep)

Emotionally Draining but worth it

For me the best of all episodes in this series.
Boum and Pram can act. It could have been directed better but it is enough for me. The story is good and the story evolved at the right phase.
This touches one of the biggest and heaviest challenge of loving the same gender, which is family.
I can’t imagine what some goes through and I’m thankful my sister didn’t have to go through the same issue when she came out.
It is worth your time to watch. Please do so and share your feedback for this episode

Combination

Looking for a solid story? TURN BACK! Looking for large combo of drama? LOOK NO FURTHER!
Like many others, I've seen half the cast in BLs lol So naturally, they're why I'm here. Each episode tells a different story and in all honesty the first ep had me at a 9/10. The first ep was by far the best (in my opinion) and I'm really disappointed they didn't tie the stories in with each other. Each episode has different levels of drama with all of them having different morals so at least one can be relatable to most people. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied and would recommend to a BL newbie or someone wanting to kill time with short story-like episodes. My re-watch value is average though.
Enjoy...

Audition Reel?

This seems like an audition reel for new actor screen tests. I was actually drawn to this series to see Santa and Earth's episode (#1) after enjoying their performances in "My Only 12%." The episode looks a bit like a screen test for Santa, since Earth is clearly an experienced and confident actor. Santa did a good job here, although his performance greatly improved for the later film. This isn't meant to be a criticism of his acting skill because the script is rather weak and riddled with cliches. The bullying scenes are difficult to watch and the audience really wants karma to kick the baddies in the butt at the end. The final scene leaves the conclusion to the audience -- or perhaps another film, but I'm not holding my breath because the writing is so weak here. I think the audience is beyond ready to accept same gender romance (or even just bromance) without the homophobia cliches and find more interesting plots for same sex couples. Let me end with a question to anyone familiar with Thai culture: surely high school guys don't bathe in their underwear or with a towel wrapped around them? I get this was staged this way to avoid nudity for family-friendly show, but I assume Thai culture has it's own version of a Korean Jjimjilbang or Japanese Onsen?

It almost hit the mark

I placed spoilers at the end of this review.

I was hesitant in watching this series because I was worried that each episode would not be connected to each other. I was thankfully surprised that they are all connected by the characters. However, Studio Wabi Sabi painted themselves into a corner with this series. The 7 songs, 7 episodes concept is not a bad one if it was done well. Unfortunately, the script for many of the episodes felt incomplete. Other than noted, the cast and acting was good.

Breakdown of Each Episode:

Episode 1: Would You Be My Love
This episode has a BL storyline. It had an emotionally moving storyline, but it felt rushed towards the end. See spoiler alert at the end of this review if you want more info.

Episode 2: Rhythm’s Heart
This episode has a Straight Love (SL) storyline with a little twist. It had a cute storyline. This is also where you start to see characters from the other episodes. However, this story also felt rushed. See spoiler alert at the end of this review if you want more info.

Episode 3: Remember
This episode is sort of a GL storyline. It had an interesting storyline, but the script was not the greatest. See spoiler alert at the end of this review if you want more info. This is the first episode that felt complete.

Episode 4: Once Upon a Time
This episode has a BL storyline. It also had an emotionally moving storyline which make sense because it does have ties to episode 1. It also did a great job tying the other episodes together. This is where you get to see how the characters from past, present, and future episodes are linked. Don’t stop watching when the credits appear because there is an extra scene to this episode. However, this ending also felt rushed. See spoiler alert at the end of this review if you want more info.

Episode 5: Breakup Zone
This episode has a SL storyline. Cute story but not the most exciting one. The acting is ok. This is another episode that felt complete.

Episode 6: VS Love
This episode has a BL storyline. It has an interesting storyline where the BL story is secondary. However, it works for this episode. This is also the only BL episode in this series that felt complete

Episode 7: 50% My Puppy Love
This episode has a SL storyline. The storyline is basic, but cute. This is the last episode that felt complete.

Random Note: I noticed that episodes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 are no longer available in my location on Studio Wabi Sabi’s YouTube channel. Unfortunately, this is probably thanks to iQiyi. According to iQiyi's website, 7Project is only available online on the iQiyi app and iQ.com. I’m not liking the direction Studio Wabi Sabi is heading on how they are releasing their series.

******Spoiler Alert by Episode******

Episode 1: Would You Be My Love
The time jump was random and did not help the storyline. It also ends with an unresolved relationship between Ozone and Sun. You do learn more about their relationship in other episodes, but they could have included it at the end of this one.

Episode 2: Rhythm’s Heart
I like the nod of the problems actors/actresses have to face with fanservice. However, they missed a great opportunity exploring Rhythm’s social anxiety disorder.

Episode 3: Remember
I give them credit for having a GL storyline, but why is it the only episode that has a sad ending. I’m not against sad endings, but they could have balanced this out with some of the other episodes having it to.

Episode 4: Once Upon a Time
I can’t explain it, but the ending just felt incomplete. It was also a weird choice to have the outcome scene after the credits.

An okay way to pass the time, I guess

With the exception of Light On Me, I haven't seen a BL (or, in this case, a partial BL) series that I've really loved this year since A Tale of a Thousand Stars. But 7 Project was not the worst. Here are my pros and cons:

PROS

LIGHT HEARTED. For the most part, this was a light hearted series, somewhat fluffy. Ep. 1 was probably the most serious, dealing with bullying. But, overall, this was a pleasant enough way to pass the time.

SAMMY. So happy that Wabi Sabi gave Samantha a lead role, rather than the supporting/bit comedic parts she usually gets. We got to see that she has some serious acting chops! (And she looks fabulous.)

BL EPISODES. No, it's not because I'm gay. I honestly liked the BL episodes better than the others. Especially liked Boom/Peak. My favorites - in this order - were Ep. 6, Ep. 1, and Ep. 4. Honorable mention for Ep. 7 (Perth/Fairy).

CONS

MESSAGE? I've written a question mark here, because I'm basing this reaction on my own assumption (which could be wrong). I've read for a while now, that some well-known BL actors have made it clear that they no longer want gay roles... and I'm okay with that. Among these are Perth and Plan, both featured in this series playing straight roles. I felt that this series was to reintroduce these two young men as "the true straight guys that they are." It just seemed a bit contrived, in my opinion. And Plan looked even more awkward kissing a girl than he did when he kissed Mean (I'm thinking Plan is just a lousy kisser).

UNRESOLVED EPISODES. Many of the episodes were left open ended, and not in a good way. Are we really supposed to leave everything up to our imaginations? Sorry, the episodes weren't compelling enough to inspire me to work that hard.

GL EPISODE. Kudos for putting out a GL episode. Too bad it fell flat.

YACHT. Loved him as Pond, and pretty much everything I've seen him do. And he's VERY attractive. Finally he gets a lead role... and all I could think was that he could possibly benefit from some strong antidepressants.

My ratings, from best to worst: 6>1>4>7>3>5>2

Overall, 6.0 from me.

Didn't reach at least 7 stars rating

Epis 1-3: boring. Epis 4-5: ok. Epi 6: enjoyable. Epi 7: While I would love Perth with less artificial haircut (he looked better before, damn it! in 1st season of 'Love by Chance', he was only 17, but he didn't yet grown too long and dyed hair, so he was hotter!) but I liked the story. Not everyone is open about their feelings from the get go, and being surrounded by friends who are openly interested in the same girl might prove tricky:) Love is a powerful thing, it can create and break things, but not to underestimate that friendship is a kind of love, too...

How to rate this project? If epis 1-3 are 4 stars, epis 4-5 are 5 stars, epi 6 is 6 stars and epi 7 is 8 stars, we have 36 stars in total. Divided by 7, we have 5 stars only... I want to be nice, so I give 6.

thoughts !

!!! THIS REVIEW IS STRICTLY ONLY ABOUT THE BL AND GL STORIES !!!

ep 1. sun and ozone
personally this is my 3rd favourite episode the visuals were everything and the story is realistic and very angsty ( which i love) earths acting never disappoints and santa also did a great job his acting was great the scene of them on the rooftop was beautiful the one thing that disappoints is the ending we know that they get together but i still hated the open ending ig u can call it but still the story was strong maybe wished they could of eased off the bullying a tad and put little more focus on the bl part.

ep. 3 proud and jaidee
was super excited for a gl because there isnt that many with good endings or plots and lets just add this to the list. i love sammy ever since uwma ive watched her in a lot of series and she always stood out to me and this ep proves that she deserves more main roles. as for pin shes a great actor aswell. now what i hated about this story was the that it fell flat the plot wasnt strong enough and got boring and its extremely messy ik already that she was the girl in the photo but i had hope. i hate when wlw shows are given bad tragic or open endings like can i not have a gl with rainbows and sunshine for once. out of the 4 eps ive watched this had to be least favourite sadly i was super excited too. to the ppl saying its realistic blah blah blah no its not im over wlw getting realistic stories like why cant bls have them instead why do they get all sunshine and rainbows and we just get sadness.

ep 4 mek and balloon
2nd favourite ep. bounprem, ugh i love them i will eat up anything and everything when it comes to them their chemistry is like no other their acting was amazing we really got to see what they can do. im super bias towards them regardless of plot i will always give them a 10/10. their episode had me in tears and the beginning really had me thinking oh sad ending i got baited and then we just get mek smirking into the camera at the end. I WAS IN TEARS I FELT BETRAYED but happy. the cheating could have been left out it made no difference what so ever to the story wasnt any need for it and ppl complained about the argument about how mek was unreasonable about being mad when balloon was looking for his sister honestly yes he could of sympathised with him as balloon was worried but we have to see from his pov that all that anger and frustration and him being upset was because mek decided to not go to the us and wouldnt give him a reason. overall great episode.

ep 6 tonnam and phupha
favourite episode
the plot was the strongest i was never bored both of their acting has improved since make it right. no complaints just overall a great episode.
rating is low due to the fact i didnt watch the other eps in otherwise i would of given the show an 8.5

Good to watch episodes separately

I watch BL pretty much exclusively, so I left out the hetero episodes when I watched. Doing so was perfectly fine, as while the episodes are all connected, it isn’t so connected that you HAVE to watch all of them. It’s better to think of each episode as it’s own little short drama. Some episodes or storylines are better than others, but every episode has an all-star cast that any fan of Thai High School/College shows would know. Wabi Sabi sure knows how to reuse their actors and keep them fed.

It was okay...

This was... alright. I had fun, especially seeing actors I already knew in new roles, but there was nothing great about it. I would give most of those couples about 2 weeks before they break up.

I think I would've preferred to have 7 episodes entirely based around Sun and Ozone and their story, with other couples in the background. It would've been possible since all the couples were connected so closely. Sun and Ozone were precious and I loved their story, but it was overshadowed by all the bullying. We got less time with them than we should have, and then we never saw Sun again! I think I speak for all viewers when I saw that we all feel like they were stolen from us.
