It started really slowly. The female lead was highly annoying. She kind of drove me crazy the first few episodes. I don't know if it was the character or the acting but the female lead in the first few episodes was very unlikable. But I stuck around and i'm glad i did because after a few episodes they finally found her rhythm. It had a really slow start and many flaws but if you want to watch something new and interesting this is the drama for you. If not for anything else watch it for the music. You'll understand.

High expectations with a deviated storyline

Well, when i read the title gunman in Joseon, i was filled with curiosity about how was Joseon by using guns and in its last period, i don't know if it is related to some historical facts, however it seemed cool and insightful. The cast was bursting with the presence of lee joon ki, jeon hye bin, yo oh sung and Han joo wan, they all did a very good job especially lee joon ki as wonderful as always, the actress nam sang mi who portrayed the first female lead didn't fit as i saw shyness in her shape and her look wasn't pretty in the drama as jeon hye bin was, i wished she were the first female lead.
Passing to the story, it was interesting as plot, i didn't like the fact of a righteous rebellion for those who carry enlightenment as title, the fact that many died isn't good also, sacrifices were in vain, the death of the second female lead is sad as she totally leaned on her father after she was betrayed by yoon kang and his harsh response to her love since she was the daughter of his enemy and father killer.Hye won gathered a loathsome spirit against yoon kang for his misdeeds with her and when he shoot her unarmed father(which is unethical) to kill him luckily bulletproof saved him. She deserved to be loved by yoon kang more than so in, i hated this point in the drama because when your life from the beginning was a shit in your childhood, you managed to escape to a better life by becoming a merchant or your father in order to gain had to lean on the higher up and do misdeeds unlike you to keep his position and life .
After the coup failed, everyone was scattered, choi woo chin versus yoon kang fighting spirit to the end was amazing although the first one had it broken after the death of his daughter(maybe he killed her by fault). I loved the modern clothes of the Japanese people and how yoon kang wore a suit in a Joseon traditionnel era, he appeared really cool in it ;but to keep the love story unharmed So in stayed alive while the poor hye won was dead which is very disgusting and down.
If the infrastructure of the drama and the storyline were more bravely shaped, it may had increased my rating to it...

Historical Question

Did anyone else notice how the Security Forces/Police were using whistles to signal each other during the chase scene of the bad guy gunman after he assasinated the elderly scholar? Does anyone know anything about that? Were whistles actually used in the Joseon era like that? And if so, does anyone know where I can read more about it? Like the type of whistles, how they were made and used. I tried google search several times but never got any results that were even close. I just think it's a neat idea for close-in signaling, as whistles sound carries a long way, and a planned out set of signals-if changed on a regular basis, to keep the opposing forces from learning them, is a good idea. I'm doing research for a story.

After one week of watching fathers dying... finally finished it. I came to the conclusion this drama is great.

The story is great, though it may be repetitive in some ways (Yoon Kang disappearing, family dying), but it is all done in different ways. Also loved the fact it actually teaches you some of Joseon's history and the conflict between Japan and China without you realizing it at all. Somehow the drama is done in a cool way so you won't get bored by that political chats; and that's the fact I don't like about historical dramas, they just won't stop talking about stuff and complicated words I don't understand at all (because english is not my primary language), make it just too long. Here is different, the king and his royal followers talks are compressible and short.
I also loved the bond between all characters, like they were all connected.
The cast in their acting really got you in the weak spot, though I didn't tear, the feels were just "real".

Though I don't think I would rewatch it at all, like 22 hours approximately of watching, no thanks (should I just get to the love scenes?), but oh well with just one watching you should get enough.

SPOILER ( IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE DRAMA, JUST DON'T READ IT)----------------------------

I though Yoon Kang was going to die in that short fight he had with Won Shin, it was shorter than what I expected (lol), but the good ending was admiring.
The bad thing is that it leaves you with undone realationships, like Soo In and Hye Won or Yoon Kang and the king.

END OF SPOILER--------------------------

This really is a good drama, totally recommend it. Just don't get too attached with some supporting roles :c.

The storyline was great. I was very happy with the happy ending! It's too bad that almost every character who had loved one was killed. This Drama series really attacked the Fathers in this one. I knocked a half point for that reason. That was the only thing that I felt was wrong with this drama series. LJK was right on point with this character and always made it his own. Nam Sang Mi also played her part very well. I did feel somewhat of a little chemistry between the two leads. The Martial Arts were outstanding. Thank you to all the cast, writer(s), directors, music, and the rest of the team for this project.

Note: Does anyone notice the bounce in Lee Joon Qi's walk. lol. His eyes and that walk are his signatures!
