editSynopsis

Hotaru works for a famous interior design company. It's a glamorous job but Hotaru's private life is totally the opposite of glamorous. She lives alone, and when she isn't working she's mostly lazing about her rented house in training wear. She's not interested in men. In fact, she isn't interested in anything. "I'd rather lay around than fool around," is her motto. Her landlord is a bar owner, and one day his son, who has just separated from his wife, comes to inspect the rental property, not knowing that someone is living there. He is shocked at the mess, but not as shocked as Hotaru. He turns out to be her boss, Takano. -- Japan Times Online

    This show was pretty lightweight, but I loved it SO MUCH! It was really cute and funny, all the acting was really good, and I really connected with all the characters. It's one of the few shows I've watched where I was rooting for the first and the secondary guy. All the chemistry was amazing and things were crazy without getting too over-the-top. I really enjoyed it and look forward to watching season two! ^_^

    I finally understand the buzz about Hotaru no Hikari! It's refreshing, entertaining, and an enjoyable watch with a fantastic and lovable cast. I wish the writer had worked on Makoto's character more; he's stiff and was only there to advance the storyline. The show recovers by having the amazing Ayase and Naohito playing the leads, so I was content! Also, that ending wasn't too pleasant it was left too open, leaving the viewers to question what happens next. But, that's why we got season two! The show was able to engross me in its story, even if the plot is simple, but it grasps me with its characters and humor.

  • Both dramas have this similar female main character.

  • In Otomen, Asuka acts like a popular, manly man. However, he secretly likes girly hobbies such as sewing. In Hotaru No Hikari, it's the opposite, Hotaru acts like a typical OL, but at home she's a slob. Ironically, both love interest in these series are the exact opposite of the male/female leads.

    I'm only on the 2nd episode and I've lost count of the amount of times I've burst out laughing. I really hope it's this funny the whole way through :)

    it was really funny; at first I thought it was japanese version of Personal Taste, there were so many similarities; bit of a shame that they didn't kiss at least once;

    I don't want to meet a woman like that. Ever. ._.
    "Clue-less" would be more like it.

    I dropped watching the drama for one reason- the lead girl. Her acting was very unrealistic and I thought if I have to watch her acting for another 16 or so episodes, i would be very annoyed and angry. Oh yeah, there is also a sequel to this drama, an I have sequels because they feel like a drag.

      It's not 16+ episodes, it's only 11, 'cause it's a J-drama. Don't mix your K-dramas and J-dramas. Different culture and different language.

      You must not watch to much Japanese comedies. The acting is always a bit over the top at best and totally over the top at worst. I can't see where unrealistic could even begin to apply here but I'm me and not you. But as for me, and i think every one else but you, I thought she did great. Are you sure you think the way you do cause i don't believe you do
    • Hugz_4_mE Jan 19, 2013
      OMGGG what are you on about??? Look I dont care about, what and who has the most eps or who acts what, all I typed was that the above user sounds unhappy about Oranga Panda said about dropping the drama.. KimYunmi then mentioned cultures and different language. So my comments was to that point alone (cultures and languages)..
    • Thisguy2011 Jan 19, 2013
      That was meant for Panda's comment not you. Calm down a bit you seem to willing to turn everything to an argument. Oh and if i earned another OMGG!! comment don' t bother i' ll be deleting my comments and restating it more clearly toward the fist comment after a while. I feel bad already since this is a thread wall about the drama.
    • Hugz_4_mE Jan 20, 2013
      FYI I got an email that you replied to my comment so if it wasn't for me then maybe you should've hit reply on Panda's comment not MINE!.. AND NO I DONT TURN EVERYTHING INTO AN ARGUMENT. maybe the way I put my words when I type especially english is not my first language! btw I typed OMGGG due to the fact I was confused when i saw your comments, I thought it was direct to me... and yes this wall is about the drama SO NO HARD FEELINGS??
