Upcoming xianxia

A spin-off of Ancient Love Poetry (Hidden God/Last Immortal is a sequel). Bai Lu plays the goddess of the moon and stars who becomes human and tries to ascend again, but she falls for a demon. Demon/God romance ? Bai Lu and Ao Ruipeng ? Directed by Chu Yui Bun ? Am I dreaming ? Also the first visuals and costumes are enchanting. I really liked The Last Immortal in spite of its shortcomings so I hope this one will have the same charm. 

This has one of my absolute favorite trope of all times, mortal enemies who fall in love unknowing of their terrible fate. Who doesn't want a romance between the demon leader and heaven prince ? It's made and acted by weel-known veterans, should be amazing. Not sure about the budget but budget is not everything, they can do wonders with limited means.

The first Fox Spirit Matchmaker of what will be a trilogy. First visuals and promos are gorgeous, the original donghua is very popular, the hype is high. Not sure about the pairing of Gong Jun and Yang Mi (and even less about the pairing of Zhang Ling He and Chen Du Ling...why ??) but we'll see. FINALLY this is supposed to air in march. This year has been really slow so far so I'm hoping it's true. It will compete with Shen Li. 

The second big adaptation based on  Fox Spirit Matchmaker. It feels like this one is targetting an older audience with its toned down promos and older cast. Also I think its telling a tragedy ? I'm not the biggest fan of Lui Shi Shi but if I'm invested in the trilogy, I might as well watch it. 

The third and last installment of the Fox Spirit Matchmaker trilogy. Filming has started, and it already looks like it could be the best of the three. It has huge potential : Cheng Yi, a mortal realm setting, Cheng Yi, a very unique romance between a spider lady (who is also a slave assassin ??) and a rich playboy who is the son of the Zhu Ye arc's leads, and did I mention, Cheng Yi ?

Well it looked amazing, love the cast and plot about a little flower demon betrayed by the king of heaven. It will  never air thanks to Crystal Yuan being involved in a tax scandal so R.I.P

Am a bit surprised to see Sun Jenny rising so fast to a lead role but she was really good in TTEOTM and she's playing a demon again, so why not, and it has Vin vin ! The story is super juicy, it's a demon/cultivator romance with kidnapping involved. It doesn't look like a big production but I dig the gothic aesthetic and I want this to be the kind of trashy fun that I will devour.

This is written by the same writer of L&R and Love of a Thousand Years so expect a lot of angst, torture and twists. Can't wait ! It's about a goddess falling in love with a mortal priest, so quite unique in the xianxia landscape. I'm not a huge fan of the trailer tho, apparently it had a lot of edits since it was scheduled, and it looks very...staged. I don't know. We'll see. 

Fairy Jing Tian falls in love with emperor Zhang Ling He. It looks pretty enough and it only has 24 episodes, so it's not a big investment. Not sure if it's even a true xianxia or a simple wuxia. I should really try another Jing Tian drama, until  now her shows did nothing to catch my interest, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with her. 

There is going to be a LOT of unconventional heroïnes in xianxia this year huh. I welcome it, I just hope it doesn't become stale or turns into a pissing contest. The novel has a big following (it went out just when the liying flat movement in China started so a xianxia heroïne who doesn't want to do anything spoke to people ?).   

Bai Lu requested Joseph apparently so I guess she's going to keep being casted along the most promising (and handsome) male talents of her gen, to my great pleasure. The first shots look like they are taking inspiration from Shen Li and trying to do a more "earthy" xianxia.
