A good way to reel us in

OK - I took the bait. I enjoyed this first season (not knowing it was a Season 1) but I got to know the leads and their backgrounds, enough to be interested. Hopefully Season 2 will be equally interesting and then I will be invested!

I like the ML a lot - and the FL too. No simpering miss, this one, and she fell hard and fast for her man and wasn't afraid to show it, and to sacrifice all for him. But he loved her too - too much to risk her life. Just a sweet chemistry. The jury is still out regarding her 'sister' and his second-in-command... but they could develop into a couple as well.

The villain is your typical villain, and I would like to see him get his Karma in the Second season. So, on we go - and hope for more of the same quality in both story and acting. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

Surprisingly entertaining with a couple of exceptions

After a while the outcomes became predictable, and the plot repetitive. However, I did enjoy the little storylines and how Jian solved the mystery. The interactions between the characters were very entertaining, and I wish that there could have been more development of the individuals and their relationships. Unfortunately, 24 episodes don't allow for that and that was a waste of a potentially good long story.

I liked the understated love story of the ML & FL - their chemistry was a bit of a slow burn but was there. I wish the second couple could have had their happen ending as well - and we might have had a third couple if the drama was longer. Alas, too many possibilities in too little time. The only reason I gave this drama such a high rating was the performance of the actors.

The ending was very unfulfilling. In fact, I stopped short of the 'big reveal' that would have left me scratching my head and wondering what just happened! Without the indication of a continuation, that was pretty lousy after getting invested in the main character. Having read the reviews and gotten a heads-up about the ending, I was able to quit watching as they rode off into the sunset together - the last 4 characters. I can honestly say I won't re-watch this unless there is a second season and I need to refresh my memory.

So much potential - wasted.

Like other reviews, I agree that this story had the potential to be much better than it turned out to be. The cast was pretty good - the chemistry between the ML & FL was sweet. For these short episode formats the writers need to keep the story focused and tight so that everything ties up neatly at the end. This one wrapped like they had run out of time with a wink and a nod. Loopholes all over the place, unanswered questions. Sloppy storytelling.

Not worth the rewatch, and an underwhelming OST. Aside from the likeable characters this series has nothing else to offer.

He could be my pet any time!

Cute, light rom-com. Easy watching for the weekend. Loved the ML. I had not heard of him before but will watch out for other shows he's done. I like him. Chemistry between him and the FL was believable - who wouldn't fall in love with that innocent face. The other characters were cute too - and everybody pretty much interacted well - no vicious plots or nasty alliances.

Nice if you want a happy ending, although there was a little nail-biter there for a minute. A couple of loopholes, but for the kind of show this is it didn't hurt the production in any way. I came away feeling satisfied and happy with the way things ended. Wish we could have seen a little more of the happy ending, but hey - I'll take what I can get!

Watch if you want to kill some time

I liked the actors a lot, and the chemistry between the characters worked. I was sad about the meaningless deaths - too many for my liking. There were some holes in the storylines and unresolved arcs which I think should have been addressed or closed out. Too much time spend on slow-mo shots and actions, which pushed me to fast-forward through a lot of scenes. I didn't even care if I missed something.

Didn't care for the OST at all.

If you're just looking for something light to fill the time, give it a go. I liked that the ML & FL are a couple in real-life. Wish there had been more happy endings in this drama, but unfortunately, no - and so many unanswered questions.

I'm lost in 'time'

I should start by saying that Xianxia is not my thing. However, I read the reviews and they were pretty positive; plus, the cast of actors was appealing too. So, for the most part, I have no regrets. It was difficult to follow the timelines sometimes, but that was not really a deterrent.

I like Xu Kai, love Liu Xue Yi, and Leon Lai. The FL was ok in her role - but looked a little young for a 'Chief God' - and I really wasn't convinced of her development from carefree, silly girl to bad-ass God. The supporting actors were pretty good too - the evil ones really did a good job, especially the Heavenly Queen and her bitchy, overindulged daughter. Liked the romances along the way and wished that everybody could have had a happy resolution, but I guess that's how it goes - you win some and you lose some. The fate of alter ego lovers Qing Mu and Hou Chi was heart wrenchingly sad but so beautifully done, and acted out by the ML & FL. The OST was hauntingly beautiful too.

Overall, it was a good watch, but I don't think I would rewatch simply because of the genre, and I found myself fast-forwarding through a lot of the war scenes and 'cultivating' scenes. I did have a hard time following the time lapses and figuring out how the lifespans play out: who live forever, who reincarnate, who die, and how those processes work in that world.

A lot of holes in the story, but I liked it anyway

The acting was great in this series. The ML & FL carried the whole thing! She was strong but not bossy and overbearing. He was just plain gorgeous, and his facial expressions were tender, amusing, wicked... that was fun to watch, but also heart-wrenching when he showed his anguish. I felt it too! The interaction between the characters was great - I love the ensemble acting, especially when there is chemistry there too.

Big letdown was the number of holes in the storylines. Too many to name them all, but the writers could have tied up and cleaned up much better than they did. Lazy? Or they just didn't care after a while. Whatever it was, they didn't do a good series any justice. We were left hanging for more than a couple of characters - and so many scenes were unnecessarily drawn out to waste time. And not enough Karma for the 'bad guys'.

The biggest letdown was that ending! What the hell was that about!? Dismal writing - they took a pretty good storyline and dumped it in the trash. Maybe the writers should have put a disclaimer so the viewers would know what they were thinking, instead of leaving us all out here making endings up. Shame on you!

Don't think I would watch it again - too many episodes for too little reward, and too many holes in the story!!! BUT - I am a fan of Yang Mi & Ethan Juan from now on!

Viewers deserved a better final episode

After investing time on 60 episodes of what was a pretty good story with great acting, likeable (and hateable) characters, the most disappointing thing about this drama was the way they ended the series. Whether they ran out of time, ran out of good ideas, or just plain didn't care about how it would affect the loyal viewers, that last scene was ridiculous and senseless and grossly unsatisfying.

That being said, the ML & FL rocked in their roles. Loved the FL - very loveable (not so much in the first few episodes though). I started watching this series and dropped it, then came back after my sister highly recommended it. Loved the chemistry between the military characters, some of the royal family, and even though there was more tragedy than I liked throughout, I think the actors all did a phenomenal job of work. Enjoyed the humor, the familial bonds, and the side romances - although I think they deserved a little more screen time and development.

A lot of time was wasted on the politics - the petty bickering in the court, and on the immature frivolity of some of the male characters in particular. The writers tried to tie up all the stories, but there were still a lot of holes and storylines left hanging. The segments were choppy and did not flow well. Maybe if I rewatch I might see something(s) I might have missed.

The crappy way they ended the story really spoiled an otherwise entertaining series. The viewer is left to imagine their own series of events and guess what might or might not have happened. Assuming everybody ended up with who we wanted them to end up, it would have been nice to actually see what transpired through flashbacks or narrative, instead on two old geezers we don't know with two kids we don't know, making vague chatter.

The Hero & The Moron

What a disappointing production! And what the heck was that ending? I must have fallen asleep and missed something, but I didn't!

If the character Tao Mo was supposed to be naive and simple-minded, that would have been kind. He was a moron! I couldn't even like the character. Gu She was convincing and probably the character I liked the most, but I just couldn't get any chemistry.

I had hopes for this storyline, being controversial and with great potential. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver.

The reviews were so positive and promising - and I'm wondering if I watched the wrong series because it didn't come close to anything that I read.

I absolutely would never watch this again.

Not the best series I've seen, but I managed to enjoy it anyway.

There were quite a few loopholes and some pointless plotlines, but I think the actors did a great job in their roles. I got attached to a few of the characters, and really despised some of the others. But even with some of the villains, you got to see the softer side of them too.

I liked that many of the storylines got tied up neatly - but some were a little vague and left hanging. But for the most part, there was continuity with the episodes, and I didn't feel lost from one to the next. It did get a little draggy in parts, so I fast-forwarded through quite a bit of those parts.

I was disappointed in the lack of romance, even though there were several couples whose stories I was following with great interest. Unfortunately, there was very little chemistry between the ML & FL, but I liked them anyway. This actress did nothing f or her character - her facial expressions were really blank most of the time. It was only in the last episode as she professes her love that she seems emotional. And wow! I waited long and hard for the one kiss in the very end.

Not a series I would rewatch - because there weren't a lot of scenes that were worth looking at again. Still, I did enjoy the series. I like these long dramas because I can always find something to hold my interest.

Vigilantes (but not too many masks)

This drama was just ok. I really liked the chemistry between the 4 main characters. The character development was interesting, although the stories got a little ridiculous at times (Hu Ge's story with his daughter and ex. What a mess!). But it all tied up in the end when ML brought everybody together to fight the good fight (not too much action there) but we got the story. That emperor was a dope! Everybody was more enlightened than him. And I wish the villains had gotten more fitting Karma, but oh well!

Even though I watch these dramas for the romance, this one didn't deliver much of that, so I was disappointed. There was obviously chemistry between Li Ge Xiao & Yan San Niang (more than between he and his first wife). However, watching their relationship develop was rewarding too. (Did they really have to kill off his Master? I didn't think so.)

Overall, this was an entertaining series. I gave it an 8 because of the cast and the great job they did. When you despise the villains as much as I hated the ones in this, you know the actors did a stellar job. When you like the good guys as much as I did, then those actors did a good job too.

I actually didn't mind the time travel/modern day part

Usually, I don't care much for the modern-day dramas or the time-travel storylines, but I love Zhang Zhehan so I took a chance. I'm glad I did. OK, so there are a few sloppy loopholes, but nothing so glaring that they cannot be ignored. After all, it's a scant 9 episodes.

Loved the camaraderie between the ML and his 2 'brothers'. The chemistry between the ML & FL was believable but nothing to set my heart a-beating (except Zhang Zhehan - did I mention that I think he is gorgeous?)

I'm going to attempt the Part 2 - with no expectations, but a little hope.

Lukewarm Rom Com

Not much romance, but a lot of friendships and scoring points for the good guys. No senseless deaths or sacrificing a character just for drama sake. The leads were actors I like, and even the secondary characters were also likeable. Wish the writers had developed a few more personal relationships along the way too. The soulful expressions on the faces of the ML & FL were endearing. I love Song Wei Long and Chen Yi Long.

The storyline was pretty simple, no dramatic twists or WTH (what-the-heck) moments. Just good, light-hearted fun and light watching to pass the time. This is why I watch these dramas, to escape everyday life and all that chaos. So, if you're looking for something entertaining and light, this is a pretty good choice.

The Characters from Hell

If there was a prize for the series with the most irritating, disgusting characters, this would be it hands down! That would indicate that the acting was pretty good since they were so convincing. The storyline was pretty clear, no glaring loose ends, but 46 episodes was a bit drawn out and I found myself fast-forwarding through a lot of scenes with the characters who were just downright disgusting, especially with the constant bickering.

The Women: Unfortunately, the women in this drama didn't come across in a very positive light - with the exception of Jingyi, Dr. Gu's wife. The matriarch of the Gu family, the grandmother was vicious and hateful. She said the most offensive, awful things (and got away with it) and did some pretty ugly things (and got away with it). The Wife of the Chen Pharmacy was particularly annoying and shrewish and nagging as hell! Substitute daughter Qingwei was whiny and your typical spoilt brat, but she was so arrogant and childish so that got old real fast. The FL was a disappointment. There was such promise for this character - a strong, smart woman rising from adversity and from one bad break to the next - but she just came across as a pushover - too 'good' to be true and annoyingly naive. But the female character who deserved the most disgust and disdain was the shallow, selfish, greedy mother He Xiu - the one that had me screaming at the screen and fast-forwarding out of disgust. Great job by that actress, by the way!

The Men: The villain Fang Cheng was unconscionable and childishly spiteful and vindictive. The two ML Zhen Ding & Han Chong were weak and neither one really lived up to the title of hero. Zhen Ding was too passive, and Han Chong was childish and impulsive. Patriarch Dr. Gu was so gullible and stubborn - that character too, could have been such a strong force, but he came across as noble but weak and wishy-washy. Pharmacy owner Chen Fu Gui was an all-round good guy, and I liked his character a lot too. But the definitely the star of the entire series was the adopted dad Wang Yao - who started out to be pretty harsh but turned out to be the kind of dad you can look up to (except for being hen-pecked by that shrew of a wife). I really hoped for a better ending for him though.

So overall, I kept watching to see the bad people get their Karma - and kept coming back until it was done. I think they wrapped it up pretty well in the last two episodes, which these days is rare. You find that in the last episode everything tends to get rushed through to complete in the time slot, but this one didn't feel that way.

Made me laugh out loud

A simple story with a cute couple. There was definitely chemistry between the ML & FL, and their 'staff'. I liked the SML and wish he could have gotten a better deal, but it was rewarding that he turned out to be a gracious loser, although a happy ending is hinted at for him.

Did not like the Doctor or the twit he ended up with, and it seems like she got off very easy (as did Nanny Liu) for all the trouble they caused. Likewise, the SML's mother - she just faded into a side wing somewhere.

This story was not super complicated, had very light moments which really did make me laugh out loud. The FL was cute but not irritating, she didn't over-act and she came across as very loveable. The ML did a great job as her foil - you could see the differences between them and watch as she grew on him.

If you're looking for light rom-com, I'd say give this one a chance. It won't win any awards, but don't expect it to, and enjoy the fluff!
