Not hating the cast for their age, but hating the casting director for the age mess
They could've either hired an older ml/classmates or casted a younger fl. The 3 way age gap looks obv
And fl/classmates are being 35 while ml is, 30(?) So they are "close" to the age they're pretending but they don't add up on the scale
Like saying someone is 170cm then bring one 175cm and one 165cm. Both are only 5cms apart but compareing those 2 they're 10 cms apart...

41fl, 27ml, 32 sfl (+2more), 37sml, 42husband, 47my ahjumma
Basically fl was closer in age to ahjummonim or oppa husband than she was to her "classmates" or love interest... Like suuurrre, she's poor and didn't take care of herself but she wouldn't age 9 years...

Liked:
The crazy
The husband
Spy ahjummonim
The Cinematography
Rooting for fl x 2fl husband
I wish I had a drama swapping plot machine so I took 3ml's plot and switched it with the eve boring ml ie the toxic unethical crazy romance
Or, switch 1ml with eunpyung manliness ✌?

Disliked:
The messed up ages between all the cast
The ml, naive, helpless, bright eyed.
The non existing chemistry between fl and ml, I started skipping their scene mentally
The obv huge age and maturity gap between fl and ml. Especially now that he wants to become her "executor" Basically pawn, savior and knight in shining armor which ironically she didn't want... ie why her 2.0
The pacing..
The cut into 2 did make me reduce 1 more point
Like it barely started and now wait for 2 months until I forget..

System says it's a 4.5

I'm not gonna insult ppl that thought this was amazing. To me as someone who's seen alot of time benders and "corruption", I knew everything from ep 1. One literally just needs to see certain actors or characters and know what's up. Tho ML here is usually the villain xD

When the limping kidnapper appeared I told my mom, he's forced into it
When old CEO came I told my mom he's the villain
When 2ml came I told my mom, he'll be the soft villain
When 2fl died I told my mom, she's probably lying
When the kid died I told my mom it's a scheme

Now one would think I'm spoiling it for my mom who was watching it with me, but I was actually throwing safety anchors so she didn't get lost xD
When everything was revealed, mom didn't go "dang you told me so" she was like ah

I had more fun cuz I watched it with my mom but this was a trash plot. Every death, murder, hindrance happened just so the future needed to call the past. And honestly everything was too connected to 2 sets of villains, 2FL, 2ML, Driver and CEO.. driver was too involved in everything, tho I'd assume they didn't want new face every time someone was dead or being killed

The past connecting them all.. the dads.. honestly why do all writers do the same conflict? Murder ppl for money, have someone try to reveal it, Murder them, then have their kids do everything, and boom last ep everything is solved

FL is a horrible actress. Not to be mistaken as a horrible person. She just can't act. She's loud. Obnoxious. Cries so loudly and she cries often.
Her character here especially. She was a murderer that was given a 2nd chance. Half way through she started cursing at future ML who was actually dead/erased/rest and blamed him for going to jail. When he literally saved her from the death raw
ML was stubborn as a mule. The writers didn't want the 2 meeting in one timeline so they kept killing fl in the future, but past ML just didn't want to listen when future ML could've given him better evidence to believe FL
2FL literally could've just gotten a divorce
2ML could've sent 2fl's dad to prison then left

Anyway this was a train wreck

My favorite part of yumi's cells will always be the fact that it's not a black and white, destiny, love story. There's no past connection. There's no once you date you can't not be together. There's just 2 new people meeting, getting to know each other and starting a relationship

Easily one if my actual favorites this year. I might go back and reduce 0.5 from my other 2022 dramas Since s1 I knew what will happen and that was for the best, since this drama is walking through new territory the anticipation can be dreadful, like Eve's ending ep had me in all types of turmoil ? As an artist, as someone who hasn't found "love", as someone uncertain about alot of things in life, as someone who's alone, afraid to be alone and doesn't want ro not be alone, yumi's cells has been a healing drama for me At times it gave me courage, confidence, relatablility, hope, gratitude, happiness and envy❣

I have high hopes for sunrookie, lol I know nothing of him but I'm anticipating and longing for him?❣
Maybe babi shouldn't have had a full season for himself, maybe it was better if by ep4 or 6 everything was wrapped up for sunrookie to show up faster and this could've been 16eps. Tho I won't mind a full season for sunrookie, I have high high hopes and I want to know how yumi will be with him

I'm mostly grateful the breakups made yumi stronger. And unlike 2521, she started appreciating her past loves?

the penthouse of crime genres

I really can't think of a good rating for the writing, the 1st time I watched it I really thought it had alot of twists and progress that it was amazing, but during my rewatch that point was the weakest link. it just looked like a combination of 4 or so movies. too many things happened to the point that one would think "is this originality or is this The Penthouse"

1st we had the brother's kidnapping, then he returns and he's being suspiciously unlike himself and that was the engaging part until the police station scene where we realize it's not 1997 and he's not 21

I think that's the point where most movies would've stopped, one bug plot twist is enough, but no we get another twist which is the ml is a murder suspect and we reach the 2nd big plot twist, it was an accidental murder.

but then they added another big twist that the husband planned the murder, but again worse twist the "brother" is the son and then they just end it with the biggest twist of all, THEY ALL COMMIT SUICIDE....................... wow just wow... I really see that as a cheap writing move, the writer couldn't think of "redemption" so they just killed off their main characters...

also at some points I was like, that song is so unfitting and annoying so again the "ost" was horrible as well

so why did I give this a 10? becasue at the time of my 1st watch it felt original and I loved the acting xD

boring yet entertaining

this was like a mix of erin brockovich and money game. even though the plot was boring, the essence of the movie came from the "tiny" people others took for granted, so this was mainly character driven and those characters made it all entertaining enough that I never got bored.

the female power mixed with the underdog type of feel really made this shine. agh I even teared up at the end, I was like yes you tiny people, you can do it!
tiny here was more about their "significance" in the work place and how others perceived them, I think the ant thing really emphasized that, alone they were

Lee Joo Young didn't have as much screentime as I hoped but I really liked her character too. overall the acting was great, the songs weren't memorable and I never rewatch stuff

the story was nothing new, and they wasted too much time on the repetitive fight of the bad guys turning against each other, but my girl Im Hwa Young and her arc were nice enough, I wish they focused more on her though ;(

those filthy bad guys meant to harm her from the start. they wanted to rape her or kill her just becasue she was a woman, honestly they all deserve what they got.

every time they threatened her she seemed unfazed and they thought she was just "crazy" and would never "dare" to kill them becasue she's a "fragile" woman, but joke was on them, she was a hitman? an assassin? whatever she was I appreciated it.

also IHY really showed a great balance between, weak, crazy and outright coldblooded murderer, I wish she gets the recognition she deserves!

the ost was nothing special and I never rewatch stuff let alone this.

this is my 1st Thai movie, and I only watched this becasue it's in the "top movies" section, and sure I was skeptical at first (especially since my 1st thai drama was a disappointment), but this was high quality!

I've been paying attention to the camera works lately, and I really liked their job here~ I think they did a great job conveying the tension, the fear and the thrill in this. tbh I am a slightly nervous shy person, so sometimes I get this heavy feeling in my heart before doing something like taking an exam (thankfully I'm done with that~) or presenting something in front of the crowd, so there's this feeling that everything is heavy? and things don't work out and you drop your phone or even trip. and I really liked how they handled that.

on the other hand they had the little small lies that seem so easy to tell, like when lyn's dad asked why she left to Sydney. but usually in dramas they just freeze and they get caught and it's over.

Aokbab Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying is so pretty! and I really loved her acting, tbh she carried the whole burden of this and made it work~ I love love love love a smart female lead! and I loved the ending too~ I also loved her voice ;)

Non Chanon Santinatornkul is cute as well and he did a great job, tbh his character was the saddest(?) and I really liked that touch.

overall I've not seen anything like this in asian drama/movie world and I was really entertained by this, and I'm so glad I'm trying new things~

I never rewatch stuff though I might try more of ACC's work, and the music was nicely timed and added well to the situations~

I'm a sucker for endings like this! the moment the car came along my heart skipped a beat thinking about what's to come~

this is like a revolutionary drama~ a full on wonderful women's world drama! I loved all of them, I'm gonna miss it though I'd LOVE a 2nd season~
+ I loved all of the female cast! every single one
+ the drama was full of interesting diverse women
+ I loved the male casts too~
+ I just loved the whole "world"
+ scarlet and jihwan are my couple of the year~

what I didn't like:
- I'll be honest, I was over tammy's character and her relationship troubles.. she started off as a confident independent woman, but throughout she became a little selfish and self observed that I was worried if the show continued she'd just push everyone away with her arrogance.
- morgan was too perfect that even Chang Ki Yong seemed to have a hard time "connecting" to his character.. he did everything else well, the cute stuff and the flirting, but other times he was too, detached?
I'll blame these two points on the fact that all writers have a problem with showcasing a steady healthy relationship because they think it'd be "uninteresting"..

my rewatch values are either a 1 or 10, but I think now that I know the ending I'd love to rewatch it~

jerk male lead at his finest...

based on fans' reaction (that I'm not judging), one (ie myself) would think this is the sweetest romcom, but it's so frustrating. It's just 2 incredibly robotic, cold, dense and jerk MLs that bully the FLs and order them around.
One forced a marriage proposal on the 1st date, never tried to get to know the FL, then bullies her repeatedly once he finds out she lied, and the get upset she dared to not like him or "get" how he's in love with her..
DUDE, you are not 5.. "harassing someone means love" is NOT a thing.. calling a stranger at 4am cuz your ego was hurt when she randomly compared you to a dinosaur is not ok.. (1st warning)
being rich doesn't mean people need to bow down and worship the ground you walk on.. then he goes and forces her to wear the tightest dress and make fun of her when she got uncomfortable wearing it... (2nd warning)
he severely bullies her at work, even if it was cuz she "lied", talk it out you idiot.. (3rd warning)

and worst of all were eps 5 and 6 when he 1st sulks that she's "not getting his hints of love (ie the bullying). and then he scams his way into dates WITHOUT telling her they were on a date, then again he's upset that she's there for the reason he lied about (final strike, THE WORST ML around....)
oh yeah, add in when he throws her out of the car (figuratively) when it was heavily pouring rain!!!!!!!!!
how hard would it have been to park infront of her, let her comfort him, then confess...

the FL is no better.. she acts like she doesn't take anyone's nonsense but she follows his orders too much. she doesn't call him on his bs. she was "happy" when he only tied her shoes. she didn't say "no this dress in too small". she took the bullying, even though it was workplace harassment. then after he throws her in the pouring rain, she "worries" for him, and in the end forgets everything cuz he swooped in infront of her shallow friends that won't believe a handsome rich man would date her

then the 2nd couple.. the FL fell too fast then keeps getting blocked by the 2nd dense ML who now thinks "he can't love" especially a rich girl or whatever..
robotic dense MLs are not appealing..

again, how hard would it be to "express" emotions? what world are we living in? toxic masculinity that encourages men to stay quiet, harass their love interest, hope she notices him and confess 1st? and say it's "boys being boys"?
I'm sorry but I prefer my men sweet, confident in their feelings, supportive and ready to love and make the FLs feel worthy

picture perfect couple that should've stayed as a picture

if I start with the good I'll stay they were the perfect couple, well not THE perfect couple, but the perfect visual couple. they were so cute together, they made me wish I was a petite girl in love with a tall guy with broad shoulders
and that was it, they were just so beautiful together, and not to be shallow but their kiss scenes were better than their relationship

the bad? EVERYTHING. everything was a waste of time... every plot was garbage (excuse the language) but I really just couldn't care less about the: crazy CRAZY 2FL that just SCREAMED until my ears bled, she was so crazy she just wanted to force a guy to love her, then they get over it and she's all normal..
the useless spinless 2ML that wasted the FL's time, he was disgusting, and they tried to force us to feel sorry for him, and they added such horrible sob story with his dad, I HATED IT
the useless creepy boss was just so cringy and the older sister was too frozen
the 2nd sister was so dumb and then they pulled a "the dude is gay and is after her husband" as if that's a plot twist ;/
then the sick mom, the abusive dad, the running EVERYTHING was a waste of time

and I even skipped, full on skipped all of that and I still knew what was going on.. this is in no way directed at the actors/actresses but this writer is full on black listed

oh yeah, the only reason I stayed was to hear Won Jin Ah's beautiful deep voice, I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE HER. also the age gap should've been +5, the way they tried to make it a 2 year age gap made zero sense. the ml was too childish and at times the ml was like a mom to him.

I'm a huge fan of supernatural fantasy.. I've read many many books like The Summoning, Vampire Academy, Echoes and many others plus tv shows like Tower Prep, No Ordinary Family and more. so I kinda have high expectations, and frankly I was not impressed by this.

also, the shallow side of me preferred more effort on their uniforms, most high school dramas (korean and american) use it to distinguish the identity of each student, or use better quality fabrics. and they needed better hairstyles. kun and claire were the only kids with nice hair. taking care of your hair doesn't mean your rebellious or into fashion ;p

now to the spoiler part;

for one thing the lack of cgi or any type of effort was disappointing, sure most of their talents didn't need anything special, but the best thing they did was shine colorful light at people and called it "super powers".. maybe pun's identity crisis was their maximum level of cg..

on the other hand and the biggest disappointment was their plot of course... for one thing the villain was too 1d, and his only crime was that he mistreated the kids, which brings me to pung only wanting to "expose" the ranked system and the way the principle/ceo divided the kids.
I mean if you come across kids with special powers, why just make a shallow clique system? you need to build a whole school just for them and spread the "exam" that identify the kids to the whole country~ think big or go home ;p

also, they needed to teach the kids how to control their powers and improve. with this and a teacher like pom it was like releasing the power and letting the kids figure it out on their own while the other students became collateral damage.

I also really disliked their repetitive episodic pattern, they'd show 1 kid realizing their potential, just to get in trouble with the side effects and throw in some angst and it's over, then on to the next one...
what was the point of the class? it only gave them benefits over superficial luxury.

fast forward towards the end, and boom we have a villain that can't get to the point, tbh I find it weak writing when I get the point 3 mins before the character actually says the punchline... I figured out pom was just a puppet, and his story ruined the character for me, his friend could've just talked it out..
on the other hand I also figured out ceo guy had the same powers the moment he stopped the pawns, but it took them +5 mins for him to say it as if it was a twist.
on the other hand Teacher Ladda seemed suspicious, like the time she told the reporter girl "you'll forget everything" I thought she had powers too or she was an anti gifted club so she wanted to take their powers away or something but no she was just a tool too..

overall they tried to be clever but the plot was simple..

now, I did like the powers and their side effects, though I didn't like the background story around each student beside Mon. they had 2 guys that fell for the wrong girl so they became angry, and one girl that wanted everyone to love her and a few others, but Mon had a strong attachment to her sports club and friends and her side effect was the saddest one tbh...

I don't have much to say about the acting, and the ost was just mediocre, plus I never rewatch stuff. I might also not bother with a 2nd season unless it has a better production quality~

Boring, uneventful and incomplete

Ironic how such a short drama can be so uneventful yet draggy

I understand Korean webtoon have a style peculiar, but i enjoyed Pegasus market and the sound of your heart
This, the comedy wasn’t funny, only one or two things were, and I’d say the be melodramatic reference wasn’t in the OG?
anyway this fell on par with school nurse files and glitch, they feel incomplete, with a really basic and cheap world buildup and follow through ?
And it ended in a way I hate the most.. going back in time, not giving answers. Like yeah he could’ve stayed another day, and gone back in time and fixed it
Though yeah her dad passed away on his way, was his closure thinking she’s back, and it was motivation for yellow pants to go back.. but a repeating loop, that’s not a happy ending, or any ending, they’re not reliving the happy moments. They’ll relive the chase

And yeah people say you can interpret it as you like, maybe it gives time for the alien to spend “one” or more days, which is 50 and more years, and some can say he’ll remember and stop her from going in.. but I call that lazy writing, open endings are pointless because the writer didn’t want to think more about what to do, the choice and follow through is their responsibility

best way to start 2024

historical dramas lately follow the "text book" to the T. everything feels the same so this was a breath of fresh air
the good,
strong female character
sweet adorable male lead
great noona romance*
secondary couple*
*yeah romance wasn't the focus, and non romance genres have the best romances ;(
everyone was smart
no unnecessary misunderstandings
the bad guy being nice to his family, I actually had a hard time because old historical "ministers" looked the same, so when he was nice at home and evil at work, it took me a while to realizes that was him
the husband was a cutie ;(

the bad
it was short
the ending felt a bit rushed
not enough romance

the grey
the "age gaps" were great in both couples, but becasue the fl was strong and independent, the ml was overshadowed, though it gave us a great "fl saves the day", I wish he had more scenes with his work to highlight him more, though they did highlight his pure heart well

A character driven story that was overpowered by the plot

I haven’t written a review in a while so bear with me
As a kid I played this Pride & Prejudice game, a multi choice story board with different endings
For example if Lizzy chose to dance with Mr Darcy the first time they met, or if she accept his first proposal, things would be different
How so? In the second scenario he never went back to their mansion, he thought she was a simple win, maybe even after his money so he didn’t love her as dearly

And well getting back to the review, this is what happened here, the setting was simple, a flirtatious girl meets the heartbreaker
And then we started getting constant sidetracking plotlines

For me eps4&5 then 8&9 were the best simply because it was about gilchae, our sweet naive girl’s journey and growth
For her, shoes and boys were her pastime activities , she had no worries, no threats
Her love was a product of that fantasy and “only” future plan for girls, to get married
Anyway as janghyun shook her world and the war broke her world, we get a simultaneous narrative of two different prospectives

To me all men looked at gilchae like she was gullible. They never accepted her feelings and never thought it was anything more than a youthful vigor. And that is the curse of age gaps, men think they’re more mature and have a deeper acknowledgment of the world

The fantasy dream of janghyun shows how he never understood or got to see the gilchae that had to mature, from the island but more so when all the male figures in her life weren’t there to “save and protect” them, the women who were raised to stay home and take cover while the men did everything.
So she had to get up, work, make men listen and try hard to show results to gain money to survive while also getting respect as a figure able to plan and plot

I am glad, eventho it was messy, I’m glad they had finally both talked it all out, that was three or more years of two incredibly frustrating people that didn’t show their vulnerability
Every time they had to actually admit their feelings they would switch it up with bickering and teasing that did become burdensome and increased misunderstandings

But anyway if she had gone with him, she’d always feel guilty about her family and he’d think she hated him for it so the best choice was to stay
Just like how janghyun said if he had “went to her faster” he worried she’d get over him and that was basically why he played hard to get, which also led to frustration and made gilchae trust him less

Now they also need ten more eps, so they had to end on heartache but either the husband lets her go, idk how their separation works. Or he dies and she can be free
By then I hope janghyun sees her as a mature person rather than a fancy object in forms of a love interest

Hunger is greed

Food here could be substituted with any materialistic object with the vs of rich people. You either run towards something and you lose time, ie poor people, or you have too much of something and you lose it's value
Life is about balance, about gratefulness and about giving more than receiving. Rich people might think they have more but in reality they have so much less because they're never satisfied
Poor people are never happy because they always want more

Great filmography quality the biggest benefit of Netflix production. beautiful food. a nice message of poor vs rich, hunger, greed, definition of success, and be satisfied with what you have vs what you could have.

Not enough grittiness, aokbab is a great actress but her stoic richbitch vibe didn't feel as greedy as she should've been. The 1 second nudity was uncalled for and the downside of Netflix

The way those rich people ate was way too gross, and tho I understand the hunger metaphor and I don't doubt rich people do live their lives devouring their pleasures, but I also don't think they'd go around like eating animals, etiquette is a rich people nature
Overall good but not great
