Han Qi Luo (Barbie Hsu),an extremely shy art student went to the same college as Chen Ling (Vic Zhou),a popular play boy. By chance one day they met at a park when CL asked HQL for direction to a hospital to visit his friend who was injured in a bike racing incident. Hurriedly HQL drew him a map, unknowing that she was drawing on the back of one of her sketches. She ran off before he could thank her. He then noticed the sketch of a mother holding a baby and was touched. In school HQL was sexually harrassed by a teacher and CL came to her rescue. They began to grow fond of each other but each of them had a secret past that needed to be addressed and overcome before they could accept and love one another freely. -- Dramawiki

This is the second drama to have captured my undivided attention. I've never seen a drama that can portray mental illness, suicide, rape and such dark subjects and portray it well.

Vic and Barbies preformances were flawless and spectacular. Other than the 1 Litre of Tears drama, I've never seen such amazing acting.

The director had a habit of not playing music at times which just added to the creepy atmosphere. I thought it worked well with the scenes. When there was music, such as the theme song, they were all well chosen.

This is one drama you won't regret watching.

Instant Favourite. I had to boot out one my all-time favourite dramas in my list to make room for this one, the moment i finished watching it.
This drama has everything you would expect from and Asian drama AND more. It's all i thought about for days, I literally dreamt of the characters when i slept.
The story, although it is appears to be a stereotypical 'good girl meets bad boy' theme, is actually far more deeper then that. The girl wasn't always so reserved, and the boy wasn't always such a womanizer. It really touches upon the consuming physiological problems that tragedy can create. Its normal to see the male lead 'change' throughout the drama and become a better person while falling in love with

  • The main characters are very similar; same bad boy lead and naive female lead; even as supporting role crazy fan girl of the male lead exists too.. If you like bad boys; you have to watch this! I absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoyed watching DBY. + the chemistry was just perfect btw leads

  • Both dramas handles serious issues such as rape and suicide. Both gave me the same kind of feeling but MARS is somehow deeper and has romance in it. LIFE on the other hand is a drama about bullying in school.

I read the manga back in October then watched the drama, and I still come back to both whenever I'm looking for something to read/watch. Such a great story...

Does it have a happy ending... I want to watch it if so!!

The drama delves deeply into the psychology of the characters. Very interesting and different from the usual fare. Loved it.

I am happy to know that I am not alone :) By the way I realized that one of the reasons why I liked it, is the ?ntro music...can not stop listening to it :P

Yup loved the intro music & intro in general. But all in all still a bit 0.o & not sure why LOL.

It's strange because it's just the genre or Drama I love but couldn't really feel that much for the characters in the end. Must have been something that made me carry on watching though as I didn't drop it.
    • xxelinaxx Jan 27, 2013
I can only agree to that. I also found many things ridiculous, unrealistic and very predictable. I even skipped a lot of boring parts but I couldn't stop watching..
In the end I kept watching because I wanted to see what will happen if Ling finds out about her past.^^ Episode 13 and 15 are therefore my favorites. Whenever they started talking about depressing things I loved the sound of his voice and look in his eyes. It was very soothing.

And that Psycho TongDao was also a very interesting charakter.^^

In the end I'm giving this drama 7/10. Maybe if I had seen it in 2004 I would have liked it better.
    • Pantheria Feb 7, 2013
TongDao was indeed quite interesting & probably kept me watching to see what happened with him but in the end I am just not seeing this Drama as amazing like so many others have.

Yeah i can only agree.^^ I actually started watching because my friend praised it so much and said it's one of the best. But she watched it years ago.. I have the theory if I watched it back then I'd have a different opinion about it. For teenagers this isn't a bad one. But I'm getting too old for this.xD I've seen much better and more realistic dramas about this genre that I can't take MARS seriously.
Also I found Barbie's acting not very convincable at times. Especially when she had to cry...rarely saw tears..it made it difficult for me to feel the emotions.
    • Pantheria Feb 8, 2013
Definitely. In the end I didn't feel as much as I thought I would for the two leads even so it's my favourite type of Drama. But I don't know; something was just missing for me.

Have to Aggree Barbie's acting doesn't seem as stellar as some people make it out to be. Overall it's an OK Drama but I am just not seeing it as the epic one so many people seem to make it out to be. Like you said maybe it needed to be watched at the time rather than years later & especially not after having seen the amount of Dramas I have seen LOL because I have definitely seen better & I haven't even felt the urge to include it in my favourites list.

oh, I also did not buy Barbie's acting there, but since I am not too much into Taiwanese dramas, I thought may be this is how they act. I mean she should be a withdrawn, scared girl but she was like a humble, understanding princess. Still I watched all the episodes, even I skipped lots of scenes, I watched them. I guess I liked its shooting along with music. there was something with the shooting that it always kept you on the edge, a mysterious air.

I think TDramas are generally acted very differently from JDramas or KDramas. It's probably a cultural thing. I haven't watched too much TDramas but from my exposure so far it's something I've noticed.

I skipped a few bits here & there too just because it did drag for me every so often. But yeah you are right some of it still made me carry on watching rather than dropping it so there must have been something. It's a bit of a mix bag for me. Something bothered me & I'm not sure what.

I heard Mars is originally japanese manga, I wonder how it is...

Highly recommended drama for all drama-lovers! This drama has real life scenarios and realistic reactions/actions with each character overcoming obstacles, developing and maturing in ways that make you want to cheer them on. The emotions evoked from this drama vary from deepest empathy to giddy happiness. I didn't get bored with this drama, a classic!

I thought I was going to love this drama and in the beginning I did. However as it when on I realized the characters (not the actors) were annoying idiots that kept on making the same mistakes over and over again almost as if they didn't learn anything. By the second or last episode I just wanted to punch myself in the face for ever starting it because it just didn't live up to my expectations.

Is it as good as the manga?
  • SumiTheCat Nov 5, 2012
a very good drama, but far too long for my taste (it took me three weeks to complete it). i did'nt really like the final episode, but enjoyed a lot the way things ended. highly recommended for those who like romance but with a complex plot. and, although the OST was somehow soppy, I really enjoyed it as well.
