The most epic and passionate romance that will steal your heart!

I watched this way back in 2017, so my review's long overdue...

If you're in the mood for an epic fantasy romance, look no further than "Ten Miles!" I consider it a masterpiece romance drama because of how well the main love story's executed: It's extraordinarily intoxicating! However, if you're not into romance, then I don't recommend it because at its heart, the drama's nothing more than a simple love story. But the way the writers/director adapted this simple story, by elevating its source material, is what makes this drama a masterpiece.

"Ten Miles" simply gave me my preferred epic romance (simple romance plot that was well-executed): Leads with explosive chemistry, a calm/mature FL (female lead), and a ML (male lead) who was powerful, hot, relentless when it came to chasing after the FL, and never committed noble idiocy (push her away for her own good, etc.). It gave me everything I wanted in a romance and executed it in a way where it's impossible to beat in my eyes.

The lead actor, Mark Chao's performance as Ye Hua (the ML) is too skilled/unforgettable. He's an expert at eye expressions: To this day, I have yet to see another actor capable of emoting so much passion while portraying an icy cold character. Not only that, he also portrayed my favorite type of ML in a romance. What can I say, I'm a complete sucker for the obsessive/possessive MLs who will never let the FL go and won't ever push her away for any reason (fatal illness/injury, bankruptcy, etc. -nothing keeps him away) lol. And Ye Hua fits that to a "T!"

Romance Minor SPOILERS...

The ML, Ye Hua, can give up anything/sacrifice anything for the FL and chases after her like a bloodhound -he basically deceived her into marrying him by not disclosing anything about himself (his biggest fault is his tendency to keep everything to himself and shoulder all burdens). He tries to shield her from everything, but when all hell broke lose, he tries to protect her using the wrong method and it cost him.

What's even more attractive is how arrogant and cold he was before he met the FL -nothing and nobody can affect him. He's never loved anyone (there's a lady who stayed by his side since they were little and is obsessively in love with him, but he's extremely cold to her) and finds that emotion to be a nuisance. His 3rd uncle even said that though he's seen as "perfect" (crown prince status, extremely powerful and handsome) in everyone else's eyes, he's incomplete in his because he lacks emotion/affection.

Well, that all changes when he meets our FL: She's the only one who can melt him and make him go crazy. Seriously, this ML won't be able to live without his beloved FL. When he thought he lost her, he gave up on life and almost died. He also cries a lot because of her -I just want to hug him (love his manly tears). He also sees through all female machinations and is never fooled by "other women's" tactics. The drama's so good at making us see everything from the perspective of both leads, unlike the book which just focuses on the FL's side. I could totally feel the ML's desperate love and pain...swoon!!!

Overall, "Ten Miles..." is still the best romance I've ever watched and nothing beats it!

Ah~~~~~~~where to start.. how to start..I don't really know
this is  simply THE BEST DRAMA EVER.. my very favourite drama of all times why?
Let's start with the story.. it was perfectly written , the type of stories that us (girls) fancy lol a love so pure , that can't be changed and grows only deeper with time and well ETERNAL !  it was sad, it was romantic it was fun and most of all (very important criteria to me) ***spoiler?maybe?*** had a happy ending!
The characters were so well written .. there is no annoying character (maybe except the ghost realm prince?) but YE freaking Hua ! omg my heart can't stand his cuteness, awesomeness,perfectness.. like it is beyond amazing
Susu is such a cute and strong charachter at the same time //// It is (sadly) hard to find a strong female charachter in asian dramas in general , so they tend to be annoying clingy and give a bad after tast to us viewers lol/// but in this one it is totally NOT the case! in fact the female lead is so powerful and strong that she controls and stands out for her ideas and ohhh *spoiler** beautiful revenge ! how amazing that it is HER who actully takes reveng and doesn't rely on the main lead although his is so freaking capable !
I watched this whole thing in less than a week (dramathon)  it is THIS amazing and 58 episode looked like a lot at the beginning but as you dig into it ... it feels like a  movie !
The after drama slump in this one was too hard , the hardest that i can remember during my 11 years of drama addiction.. therefore I have re-watched it  5 times in a matter of 2 months lol
and let me assure you the re-watch value is as high as mount Everest!
this entire ting is just too good go watch right NOW!

Lived up to its hype although it wasn't perfect.

The good:
Acting was great across the field - surprised and happy to see that so many of the cast members belong to Yang Mi's agency. I loved all the side characters too (ie. 16th, Yan Zhi, Si Ming, Bai Zhen, Zhe Yan, and more!!)
OST was amazing but I only wish there were more songs than just the 5!

The meh:
Hated Xuan Nu and Su Jin's characters and can't believe a large majority of the drama was spent on their plots. I'm guessing they didn't stray too far from the book for them though.
The CG was ok for background scenery but the animal CG was a bit laughable + didn't mesh well with the acting.

Feng Jiu and Dong Hua was honestly my least favourite couple (compared to Bai Qian/Ye Hua and 16th/Yan Zhi) but I may still watch the next drama due to the side characters.

Wow... where do I begin?

This is all you need to know about this drama.  It is not an innovative drama nor does it take itself too seriously.  It delivers exactly what you expect it to deliver...which is lots of beautiful people in beautiful costumes with a beautiful soundtrack to go with it. It is a fantasy so of course there is going to be lots of shitty CGI. This drama is also not short on overused cliches: Female lead loses her memory (check), Male lead is stoic and cold (check), Male and Female leads are so in love they do illogical things (check), Evil, scheming, jealous women who desire the male lead (s) (check) (CHECK) and there are more but it would be a spoiler... (CHECK). I also fast forwarded a lot of boring side arcs.  This was how I managed to finish this entire thing in 3 days.

BUT!  Here is the huge BUT in this review... BUT.... boy was it entertaining.  The main story arc, which is the love between Bai Qian and YeHua, was so captivating that it made up for all of the sleep I lost.  Watch this drama for Mark Chao as YeHua.  He gave the performance of his life.  When Yehua was in pain, I was in pain.  When he was in love, I was rooting for him like a childish school girl.  Yang Mi as Bai Qian wasn't as impressive but she had her memorable moments.  I give her lots of props for portraying multiple characters.  She managed to bring to life three different characters in Siyin, Su Su and Bai Qian while still retaining the element of continuity that made us all believe that they were still part of her original character Bai Qian. She also kicked ass as Bai Qian (which was refreshing).  I only wished she recognized her feelings for Yehua earlier.  Like COME ON...GIRL... return the passion please!

Huge Con: The story does not truly start until the second act which is probably why people would drop it early on.  The main male character (Yehua) doesn't officially show up until episode 8 or 9 for crying out loud.

In summary, I loved this.  It was a great ride and I will definitely rewatch (and skip all of the nonsense filler story arc again) just for my dose of Bai Qian and Yehua.

You will always remember YE HUA & SU SU, always...

The story is beautiful... even with the long episode, you will never get bored..
The set, costume, make up & CGI is all good and not over done...
The original soundtrack is beautiful and perfectly matched with the story line...

The chemistry between ML ( Mark Chao ) & FL ( Yang Mi ) is what gave this drama a memorable story...

The best Xianxia Drama i have ever watched so far until TTEOM aired this April 2023 ?.

I will always remember
YE HUA & SU SU ?
TANTAI JIN & LI SU SU ?

I would like to give this drama a standing ovation for making my 'debut' into Chinese dramas. Before this, I was stuck with Korean and occasionally Japanese dramas, but never though to venture to Chinese as I'm afraid that I would be disappointed.

But boy was I wrong! Thanks to numerous reviews of this drama from MyDramaList reviewers, I finally thought "Meh, why not try something different? After all there must be some good Chinese dramas out there and Eternal Love is in the popular list."

And thus my rollercoaster of emotions begins.. ????

This drama is one of those that makes your life a hangover of feels afterward. You keep thinking about it every few hours after a couple of days. And if you're single like me, it makes you question why are you still single ????

To give a good review without bias, I'd have to be honest and say that cinematography-wise, its not up to par with most Korean dramas yet. This drama uses cheap CGIs (as most fantasy Chinese dramas do), have some unrealistic character traits (such as extreme obsession), is dubbed which I do not particularly enjoy (I realised later after comparing to other Chinese dramas this is a quality dubbing), does not have the best set of OST (although some are pretty good), and some support casts do not have that 'genuine' feel of acting. But hey, do I care?

No.

If you can ignore the aforementioned and focus on the plot and chemistry of the characters instead (especially main leads ????), then all those miniscule details becomes insignificant compared to the grand tale of true love that this drama brings you (Eternal Love might sound like a typical cheesy drama title, but for this drama it suits it perfectly. And have anyone noticed how poetic 'Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms' sound? *swoon*).

This drama has risen up to my top 10 of best watched dramas ever for the particular reason that it made me feel so much love for the main leads and I would definitely rewatch if again, even though its the first ever Chinese drama I have watched. For all of you out there who tend to stick to certain countries for your drama watchlist, but is open minded and would like to give new things a try, then this drama is for you. For all of you who have loved Chinese fantasy dramas before but haven't watched this one yet, then what are you waiting for?! THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!

Ok, enough rambling. Imma gonna go watch me some Chinese dramas now...

This was my first Asian drama and my first true love. If I had chosen one of the other Chinese fantasy dramas to watch on Netflix I would have never watched another one. But TMOPB was my choice and I fell hard.

I fell in love with the beautiful people, sets, costumes, music, and story. Like a first love I was reckless and slept very little, unable to tear myself away.

It had everything I wanted in a first love-passion, true love, unrequited love, revenge, danger, obstacles to overcome, character growth, monsters, and magic. My first love had some flaws but through the eyes of love I overlooked them.

The actors brought the characters to life and pulled me into another world.

The music enhanced the story without distracting from it, a romantic mix-tape for an epic love story.

The next few dramas I watched were unworthy of my love and left my heart cold, but because TMOPB had taught me how to love I kept my heart open and kept searching. I have only truly loved one other time but I have loved and liked many others.

I have revisited this love many times, unable to completely let go. All other loves are measured against this one. I am so thankful for the worlds this drama opened up for me.

A Great Xianxia, the drama that really took off the Xianxia trend!

One of the most memorable Xianxia dramas out there!

The story was simple and intriguing.
The first 10 episode were slow, and tiresome to get through. But this is the introduction to the
main FL BQ and her mentor. Which is important to the story.
During the mortal arc, is when things start developing between the 2 Leads.

And at episode 30, that was one of the best episodes.
When the viewer is fully invested into the story and the story is peaking.
The side stories was alright and to me it became tiring at times.
Yes there was nice moments with Dong Hua and Fengjiu!
But they could have made that story enitrely seperate, and they ended up doing that.
So I feel like, it was pointless to focus too much on Donghua and Fengjiu.
Because those scenes could have been invested into BQ and YH's storyline.

The villians was good, they were good with bringing out what was intended.
The actors did a wonderful job, the main leads were lovely.

The OST was really good, especially the ending song!
The rewatch value is low, because it's lengthy and this show can be draggy.
Like many others! So if it was tighter, it would have been great!
I do admit the ending could have been much more satisfying, if it was longer.

Yet overall this is a Great Chinese Drama
with couple of problems in the story!

WOW! There simply is just not enough praise in this world for this drama. And do not be intimidated by the length because this story is surely going to have you spending sleepless nights to find out what happens next.

PROS:
- amazing story ~ you literally have everything you can ask for: love, drama, history, fantasy, romance, strong female lead, comedy, betrayal, cross-dressing, pregnancy, evil female childhood friend, tragedy, annoying mom, sacrifice, duty, fighting and so much more
- the cast is perfect for the roles ~ this is probably the first drama where i was genuinely interested in the stories of the side characters, every character is important and every character has their own story
- amazing chemistry ~ Bai Qian and Ye Hua have the perfect chemistry and you definitely get a lot of cute scenes to prove it
- the perfect side couple ~ OMG! I am soooo invested in Feng Jiu and Dong Hua's relationship! They are no doubt my favorite couple in this drama. The main couple you kind of already knew that they were going to end up with each other but this couple really keeps you wondering and just hoping for more scenes.
- dual romance: so Yang Mi has 3 different roles in this one but they are all the same person! (Si Yin / Su Su / Bai Qian) here the important thing is that Si Yin and Bai Qian are the same (Bai Qian just uses the name "Si Yin" when she cross dresses) but SuSu is Bai Qian with a completely different personality (you'll understand this when you watch the drama...)...basically what i'm getting at is you'll get to see the romance build between SuSu and Ye Hua...then later between Bai Qian and Ye Hua...this is amazing since it will keep you interested in the story and its very refreshing to see the changes in the nature of their relationship despite it being the same person

CONS:
-NONE! I really enjoyed everything about this drama. It made me feel so many different emotions with each episode and still makes me want to rewatch it.

This really is a must watch for anyone! And OMG Bai Feng Jiu and Dong Hua Di Jun are going to get their own drama to continue their story!!!!!! The only complaint I had with this drama was the ending for those two but now I cant wait, hopefully Three Lives, Three Worlds, The Pillow Book is broadcasted soon.

I know this story has already been made into a film, I have yet to see by the time I have finished watching this drama, but I find the complexity of the plot to be more suited for the format of a drama.  There are many romances and plotlines going on at once that it almost seemed like it needed to be so many episodes and so much time.  For all intentions purposes I can break this series down into three parts.
Part One, where she is a disciple - I thought this part was the slowest of the three.  I am not a huge fan of the gender-bender sort of story lines mostly because I lack the mind to ever think that they can’t obviously see that she is fact a female, but this drama got over that, by having the first (second?) love interest see through the magic, that others couldn’t.  So I was won over by the portrayal.  The plot for this point was very clear, and forward, inducing the viewers to the complex world of the drama.  The back story that you really needed for the rest of the drama, and the main setup for the love story to come.
Part Two, where she is Su Su - I find the plot twist to be exciting!  Coming from a viewer who hadn’t known about the plot twist, it was very exciting.  I have not read the book, nor had I thought that, that wasn’t coming, even though it was in the description.  I thought she was going to be a reincarnation, or differently I guess.  Though in a way she was.  This plot point, I think showed both mains acting ability to adapt to a change of character.
The third part Bai Qian again - Where she becomes a high god, a queen,  feared by those who were cruel to her in her mortal form.  It was actually enjoyable to see her back at her position, though I do think the amnesia plot line is over used on dramas, for this one it worked well.  This part had you falling in love all over again with the main couple, wishing that it will work out in the end for them.
The second romance line that I really enjoyed was the one between The little princess and the ex-heavenly lord.  I honestly could watch an entire drama with these two.  I can understand why some people didn’t enjoy this storyline, but after watching Dilmurat Dilraba in previous dramas, I enjoyed seeing her in a not as serious role, a mix between her characters in Pretty Li Hui Zhen & The King’s Woman.  The ending for them is sad, but you leave knowing that he truly loves her, he just can’t be with her.
Overall, the plot of this drama never dwindled down, and there never felt an episode was meant to be a filler.  Every episode was packed with information, if not for the one lead story then the other smaller ones.  Even the small romance between the 16th disciple and the Ghost Princess was enough to keep you wanting more.  I think that was the best thing that this drama could accomplished, even though it wrapped things up brilliantly and didn’t leave loose ends, (maybe some really minor ones), you made you want more.  This puts it on my top 3 Favorite Chinese dramas along with Love 020.

Acting/Casting: 10.0
This is by far one of the best casted Chinese dramas I’ve seen of an historical/fantasy genre.  Though when I mean historical it isn’t the usual based on a history, more so the scenes of a period drama through the use of costumes in this matter.  I was a little hesitant at first just because I thought the male lead was a bit awkward, but I got over the initial awkwardness once I realized that, was the type of character he just was.  A royal, pain in the ass, yet had the ability to love.  The way he played the twins’ was at first a little shocking at how similar they are, but than when it come to the subtle differences I thought he portrayed the two characters very well.
I had seen Yang Mi act before in the interpreter, which was one of those dramas where it had good acting but a very convoluted plot and story premise.  I believe that this series is a better representation of her acting abilities then The interpreter.  In this I enjoyed the characterization of  Qian Qian and Su Su.  Both were her.  Su Su was more like Si Yan in the beginning not having to abide by so many rules yet kept her wits about her like Bai Qian.  The portrayal of a mortal being pushed around by gods had me fuming, and when Bai Qian came back for repayment, you were happy about it.
I know some people found Feng jiu’s character a little bratty and childish, but that was something that I actually loved.  Instead of bratty I found her headstrong and stubborn taking after her Aunt Bai Qian when she first arrived at the Kunlun Mountain.  I also liked her Childish demeanor that she out grew over time yet still kept that young naivety about her throughout.  It was a good contrast to the high strung elder Dong Hua.  I found both character’s to be one of my favorite pairings.  I could watch an entire series just based on these two.  I honestly hope that vengo Gao and Dilraba Dilmurat will get a chance to work together in the future, maybe one not as tragic.
Overall the supporting characters are really fantastic, you hated the villains, yet felt bad for them in the end, and could related to the others struggles and pains.  Throughout it felt like a watching a greek tragedy off the past loves.  One last note, Ah Li is the cutest purest thing to come out of these series and will make you laugh, cry, and say he is just like his mother.

Music: 10.0
As I am not a music expert, I will keep this brief.  This series music fit very well for the drama.  In fact it was one of the best fit I’ve seen for a while.  I love instrumental music and this piece was filled with Chinese classical instrumentals throughout the background.  I enjoyed that the music throughout the drama never once took me out and only kept me engaged.  It set the right tones, and helped you follow along to the multiple different plots.

Rewatch Value: 9.0
Rewatch value is always open to the viewer themselves.  I find that there is so much going on this drama, that rewatching it again wouldn’t bore you as much as others because you would be finding something new to watch and see each time.  Between the multiple romances, the storyline, the graphic design, and the fantastic costumes, This is a wonderful show you could watch over and over again.

It's a GREAT one!

I watched it for the 5th time and I still love every sweet and heartache moment! The FM and ML were amazing! The ML is totally sexy...the way he kisses her...it's a WOW... The second FM and ML were awesome too! They eventually had another drama together but I wasn't a fan of it.

Beautiful songs and well-made drama! There were lots of cute moments and touching scenes that will make you tear up! I love dramas that involve marriage, pregnancy/child, separation, forgiveness, regrets, amnesia, sex, great kissing, reunion, possibly deaths. This drama is a FULL / COMPLETE package of what you want in a romantic/touching story.

Don't miss it! You will LOVE the story!

Great Romance, Boring Villains

Eternal Love, or should I say, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms is something new and unique I've seen in a romance drama and it's my first time seeing this type of genre being played here. I have to admit, I haven't seen love stories as shows I've seen nowadays have it more as a tag and only plays some part in the story and not as a whole. While this one is also adapted from a novel, the novel itself is plagiarized from a BL novel which kinda reduces my enjoyment from it. However, I just go with the flow and accept it as it is and judge on the show itself.

As a person who usually prefers character-driven dramas and would sacrifice my entire existence and soul to characters whom I love, this one does not do their justice here. I find most of the characters here really mediocre and unfascinating besides Bai Qian. Not that I dislike them, it's more of that I don't vibe with them. I do enjoy seeing the side characters but at the same time, nothing much really. Mo Yuan is gone 90% of the show and I wanted to see more of him but NOPE. Ye Hua is a great husband and I admire his love for Bai Qian, but then I feel like that's just it. It must have been because of the repetitive plot all the time there that made me lose interest and I find myself hard to connect with any of them. I expected more from that part and sadly their character-wise are not to my taste. I do not find the humor to be funny but that's just me.

The best part of the story for me is the love story between Bai Qian and Ye Hua. The romance is done well and both of the actors and actresses act out well. Although there are one or two parts that bothered me with Ye Hua just trying to force himself to Bai Qian which is wrong but other than that I love it. I have to salute to the actress, Yang Mi as she manages to play three characters with three different personalities perfectly, from the young and mischievous Si Yin to the sweet and kind girl Su Su and lastly, the goddess queen Bai Qian. Mark Chao also has done a good job playing both Mo Yuan and Ye Hua. But then, I am not keen on his character compared to Bai Qian. His outfit in the last episode when he finally reunited with Bai Qian is hideous as hell, who even made that design and letting his hair all down that made him look like Sacred Riana from Asia's Got Talent. Geez.

However, I don't care so much for the 2nd love story between Feng Jiu and Di Jun. Initially, I thought it's cute to see Feng Jiu trying to chase Di Jun but halfway through, their love story bore the hell out of me. Not to mention how their relationship never really progressed throughout the story, they still are the same before, during, and after the relationship and that's where I lost it. I actually prefer the other one between Yan Zhi and Zi Lan. Sad they never worked out in the end. I don't mind filler stories if they are interesting for me but the love stories between the 2nd lead couple were just meh for me. I've seen better.

My eyes did a 180 at the villains. The villains here are your typical and stereotypical cliche women who can't control their hormones and be crying their way out because the love of their lives is head over heels for Bai Qian and Ye Hua. Not to mention how one-dimensional they are. I would say that Xuan Nu is definitely better than Su Jin as a villain. Su Jin is one of the most annoying villains ever and it's so satisfying when Bai Qian finally got her eyes back from that devil. Su Jin feels more like a ghost tribe member compared to Xuan Nu but both are just annoying and I feel like vomiting when mentioning their name. Qing Cang is even weird, the show can actually survive without him and him playing as a villain (who's basically sealed in that gigantic Dong Huang bell for thousands of years) is more of plot props and nothing else really. I expect more from that. I've seen villains like him in other Chinese Drama where they all crave power, and it does affect the story a lot and some are actually entertaining to watch but this one doesn't do much.

To conclude this, I do enjoy watching it and the 3rd arc of the show is the best for me. If I'm ever gonna rewatch it, I'll skip some scenes since I couldn't care less about them. Come here for the romance, not for the villains. That's all.
