Episodes 1-6 were almost a waste of time. Yes you got back story here and there and as another review put it "its like an onion pulled back layer by layer" but there was so much that wasn't part of the overall story- fluff that just grated on my nerves. Especially since they also try to set up a love story that wasn't beneficial to the plot.
Being a vampire fanatic I also had problems with the mythology and there were scenes and shots that made no sense.
The female leads part was also unnecessary, it was almost like they were going to start up a romance, we even get her back story, but it just flops and seems like it was added in to get female viewers.
All this said ep. 7-12 did get better and episode 11 and 12 were by far the best. I liked the ending which was this dramas only saving grace when I scored it.

Every episode gets better as you try to figure out the underlying story of why Mr. Prosecutor is a vampire. There are a few holes here and there but I figured this was intentional and would get filled in as the series keeps going. There are a couple of episodes where they could have built out the story a little better. They did a good job with the supporting casts' back stories which added some mystery and surprise. This gave the characters and the show more depth. It certainly kept the sidekicks from being too stereotypical. The chemistry between the actors is also just right and I'm intrigued by the minnie sizzle building between...well you'll just have to watch it to see it. It's unique and like a good book you won't want to stop until you get to the end or endish... I really can't wait for more.

Story
Since this was a Vampire-based drama, I would've thought the plot would consist of vampires constantly battling each other and out for each other's blood, however don't be mistaken. Although there were aspects of vampires- it wasn't overwhelming as this drama was like a CSI/Law& Order/ Criminal Minds type of drama, which I am a huge fan of!
The story is simple, a vampire prosecutor that solves crimes and investigates deaths of people. Simple right? It was entertaining for the first few episodes, but after that- that is where the magic happens. The plot thickens as it becomes a 'on-the-edge-of-your-seat' drama that makes you curious and wondering just what is happening!
Since it's only 12 episodes, there was never a boring part and nothing dragged on which was surprisingly pleasant. The story line fit well and flowed nicely without any major mishaps, of course the ending was a cliff-hanger so thank god for the next season!
Actors
Everyone was fantastic at portraying their character! Kudos for Yeon Jung Hoon who portrayed the main lead (the Vampire Prosecutor) as his acting was fabulous! I especially loved his fighting/action scenes and where he kicked people's bum within a few seconds. Lee Yeong Ah portrayed the female lead fantastically as well! Loved her background character story since I wouldn't have guessed her background!
'specially loved their chemistry although people may argue with me on this. If you are watching for Romance, you might need to squint really hard to find the romance, but you won't really miss the romance since it's the mystery and thriller you're busy paying attention to!
Music
Loved the opening track, it gave off an appropriate mystery/horror vibe which I liked. The other soundtracks were pretty good, however it wasn't overly amazing to me
Rewatch?
Of course I'll rewatch it! Although this season was short, it deserves a rewatch!

I wasn't really opting for romance.
It was short so I never really got bored. And all of them had there own past that was hidden and was opening one by one which was interesting.
I don't know I just don't like romance blooming in these kind of scenarios. Just opts for more trouble.
I'm not into vampires. But this didn't really have anything to do with the Twilight/True Blood Scenario. So it was cool.
Over-All I'd say it was a good drama.
I'm just wondering if I should watch the second season or not.

Derivative with a cinematography that borders on pretentious, this id one of the few Korean procedurals I've seen. This has some positives as each episode brings a new case but it also has some negatives, especially around the lack of establishing mythology and a weak overarching plotline. At its best, it's campy noir fun. At its worst, it's confusing and a bit silly.
One of the biggest draws is the smart, capable, badass female lead, a fellow prosecutor. She may have very bad hair but she's a total boss and that alone deserves an extra rating point. Romance is not a big part of the show but the two prosecutors have a nice dynamic of attraction and mutual respect that hints at more.

The quick review is: This is basically CSI with a useless 'HEROES' power -_-
Would've finished yesterday but kept falling asleep mid episode, pretty much every episode.
Which leads me onto my negatives:
- It was boring quite a few times during episodes
- The music wasn't that great; the ending theme tune was typical cheesy Korean love song *throws up*
- The story line, especially the end/main one was SO predictable; I spent the entire last episode going 'knew that was going to happen, knew that was going to happen, knew that was going to happen'.
- Not to mention, the people who made this show, have clearly never been told what a vampire is and what they do! The vampire goes out in the sun, doesn't burn, isn't cold, isn't pale, doesn't hear veins pumping, doesn't crave blood, can be killed by other non-vampire things, bleeds, can stand crosses, doesn't sleep in a coffin, need I go on? He's hardly a vampire, the most he does is stare at someone's neck twice and drinks others blood to get a 2 second glimpse of the last thing his victims saw. What a crappy vampire.
The positives? The cinematography was good. That's literally the only thing I can say is positive for me.
Won't be carrying this on as you can tell haha

While I'm all for different types of dramas and having a vampire one sort of piqued my interest-sort of. I'm no where near being a vampire fan. I never understood the hype and don't know why I tried to watch this. After watching Vampire Detective I should've stopped at that. I only watched that because of the fighting.
This one, from what I saw had minimal fighting in it.
What turned me completely off was the fact that this dude can drink someone's blood and figure out what type of crime happened and where. Besides gagging, I thought this was highly ridiculous.
I liked the detective. If he wasn't in this I think these episodes would've tanked completely. He was the only one that brought 'life' to this series but I couldn't get past the second episode.
The worse part is that there's a second season. Now a lot of other dramas I've watched only have one season and I now know why. Sometimes a second season wouldn't be a good idea. If I wasn't so grossed out by this....yeah, I still wouldn't watch it.

Was this review helpful to you?
