Honest review on this movie
*no major spoilers*When I first saw the trailer of Oversize Love, it looked very interesting but after watching the movie, I was disappointed. First off, I felt that the movie was rushed in a way that the story plot was not set up smoothly and I didn’t really feel chemistry between the actors. I would like to also mention that I think it would have been better to be a drama instead of a movie which would produce a better story plot and help build the chemistry between the actors. Also, the title of this movie is alright and would have liked it to be witty because the movie incorporated some aspects of the movie “Alice in Wonderland” which could have produced a connected concept. With that, I don’t think I would rewatch this movie but would be interested if there would be a Chinese drama with a similar concept. So my overall rating of this movies is 5/10.

Good premise & cast with many BUTS (disappointed)
The setup of overweight FL and her long time friend, ironically ML was real chubby when young n FL stood by him. Throw in Madhatter from Alice in wonderland and a potion that instead of growing tall/shrink is a magical slimming potion. All this is going really well until the 'BUT' starts:The leads have a good chemi but the story isnt exploring it in the right way. I want to enjoy their friendship and their blurry feelings for each other. Instead theres so much wasted footage on unimportant things.
SML is also a character that wasnt likeable. His personality is the opposite of his appearance. I get annoyed when he constantly fat shame bigger sized women. I did not enjoy them and also felt Xiao Xi wasted too much time on him.
Given that the leads wasted so much time. I thought the make-up would be good. I didnt mind the comedy bits here. Except the way it was wrapped up was very disappointing. I am left wanting, wanting a rewarding couple moment of Xiao Xi and Han Bin.
The appearance of the movie promises a sweet romance between 2 friends but it never delivers on that promise. And its a shame cause the actors were great but the plot and direction went awry.

how to be brave
This drama tell us about a story that most of us having trouble maybe in some or everyday of our days. Let me explain...1. The trouble of fat woman. Yeah our world is cruel, especially to a fat woman. We can see in the lift how every fat woman expected to be self-aware that they need to be get off, even when they not the last person who get into the lift. And the world is perception never good in a fat woman, we woman sometimes getting reminded of that everyday with every thing around us hoping for a slim woman rather fat one, that sometimes makes us very unsecure with our own body.
2. Everything have price. Like the 'rabbit' said, we sometimes don't know what price we must pay for something & only realize it when everything already too late... From the first the 'rabbit' already said everything have price, I already scream to my screen, 'What the price...?!' But our FL never even bother to ask that. Yeah we human sometimes never even consider what the 'price' we have to pay for something 'magical', we just hoping for the best & just jump into it.
3. We need bravery. Our ML & FL have classic problem of friend that falling in love with each other but too scared to confess and change the status. What if is always became the question. But in here also there are they're bad thoughts play the role, all the misheard & bad assumption make things worsen for our couple. In love, or maybe in anything in our life, sometimes a little bravery make a big important impact in our life.
I don't know this better or not. But how about if in the end the FL wake up & all the story that happen in the drama happen only in the dream.... Hehe....
Overall I quite satisfied with Guan Xiao Tong & Johnny Huang here. Quite good movie to spend ur afternoon...

Alice in wonderland ....
So apart from the fact that the ML (Johnny Huang) is super hot, this story is really touching and has an exceptional meaning behind it.This story is a very realistic one, a typical girl with very low self esteem, and how people view her because of her weight or judge her based on her looks, that generally what goes on till to day.
A magic portion comes into play and at cost to her friendship she initially, loves the fact that she is recognized, and get noticed by everyone, her true friend however, sees her for what she really is and doesn't judge her one bit, but at the time she can't see it. her greed overtakes her to remain thin, but like all things life it comes with a price. after realizing that she was lucky enough to revert back to the way things were.
I particular loved the ML and his support her and often when she was determined (short lived) he still stood by her and was ready to help or assist again and again, he never wavered. the FL played her role well, in her views on of how she saw herself which I am sure most can relate too one in there own encounters.
This story behind the meanings were really good, love yourself, never give up and always be true your self, and not allow other to judge you, it also stands to show what a true friend is or how love can overcome the views of others, hats off to the ML for portraying that in a way.
Overall a lovely movie with the whole Alice in Wonderland theme ....

heartfelt but not enough?
After watching the movie and reading reviews I've come to agree with a few negative ones. The overall storyline was verybeautiful and heartfelt, it teaches a lesson everyone should know, for example, beauty is not everything, it's about what's inside that matters, be careful what you wish for, etc. Although I almost shed a tear it never fell from my eyes, it hit the heart but not hard enough.
The movie lacks much emotional build-up with the main characters, the idea of this film would have been better as a drama to create more suspense and connection. Many periods of time were short (few minute) flashes. The storyline would have been more appreciated if there were more history.
Overall I enjoyed this movie, I do think there could be changes made. The story, acting/cast, and music were all pretty good, like saying moderately strong to the line of best fit in math LOL. I would not rewatch this movie even with all the good qualities. The main plot is too memorable and not in the good way to watch this movie multiple times.

Good Topic
It is a good story with a good topic. I don't like that they made her look like she is a gluten eater when she is fat. No human could eat as much as they made her look like she ate. The low self esteem that she has is very realistic. The guy that was her friend is not a helper he enables her to eat because that is the way he shows love. How much she liked the idol that she would do anything to change, but I don't think she would stay with him, especially after she heard how he hates fat people. Also being in the photography field that takes pictures of model she would have known how superficial they are. The actors performance is very good and the topic is great. Not enough meat to the story
I'm usually a fan of movies, rather than a series, if it is well-done. Chinese series, in particular, tend to be very drawn out with a lot of filler that I can do without. Unfortunately, this movie seemed to be all about the filler and no meat. We never got to really delve into the personalities and the motivations of the characters. The acting was okay, given what they had to work with, but there wasn't enough good writing to let us care about them and what happened to them. I have enjoyed the actors in other shows, but the lack of chemistry here was very disappointing. Add to that a very unsatisfactory ending and I just got the feeling that I had wasted my time in watching this.Was this review helpful to you?
I love the bond between Xiao Xi and Han Bing. Wish they showed us more of their scenes and chemistry rather than totally focussing on (Huang Ke). He have more scenes than the actual Male Lead.
Other than that it is a cute story which has fictional parts attached. Best for a one or two time watch. Go for it if you want to see something light-hearted.

Love yourself
Been waiting to watch this full movie after watching the trailer.The story starts from the present time, with a few flashbacks to help the storyline. Xiao xi is the one who helps Han Bing when Han Bing is bullied because he is fat, but at the present time all of that reverse. Because Xiao xi want to pursue her dream, she drink the magic potion but it risk her friendship with Han Bing. It's a good thing that at the end she choose her friendship after all that up and down.
Lesson learned to love yourself first before you expect others to do that, because sometime all good thing might be happened after you accept yourself. Which sometime hard to do even though you know it. Great romance comedy movie to spend and watch before you sleep.

Interesting but not very good
The lesson behind the movie is actually quite meaningful. Teaching you to love yourself and also to appreciate everything you have - from the biggest to the tiniest details of life. However, the movie is just not great. I am sure all the actors and actresses did a great job and hard work bringing this movie to life, however, it still did not really bring the entire movie to life. There are various gaps here and there. The little touch of Alice in the Wonderland is also quite interesting, but not good. The song written by the male lead in the movie is very nice though. Really love that song.Darren Chen as bad boy in this movie, so not nice lol. On the contrary, quite the turn off for me.
Rewatch value, for me personally... I won't go for a 2nd. Was a nice to watch the first time, that is about it.

It's just another version of "The Nutty Professor" with a female lead. The ML happens to know and like the 'natural' (large) version of the FL. And you know the standard trope will be that the man she likes will be bad for her. It's kinda of cute, not to funny. It's a movie you want to watch when vegging out and not required to think or remember anything. I made it to the hour mark before I was ready to call it quits and just had it on for the noise after that. The story needs work on the transitions between scenes; it seems to roughly jump from one scene to the next. This is especially true when the FL reverts back and fat shaming and fat comments are made to cover over the roughness. Was this review helpful to you?
