First of all, I'd like to say that this drama is different from other dramas! The drama is beautiful and the chemistry between the two leading characters is off the charts. The story goes at a steady pace unlike many other dramas. I really love this drama because it's so refreshing and it's a nice change.

Story: First of all, I'd like to tell you to ignore the synopsis for this drama. It only tells you what happens in the first thirty minutes of the drama. The main character, Lin Jia En does NOT pursue her childhood friend Ren Wei or try to "lure" him in as the synopsis says, I'm not even sure she had special feelings for him in the first place. It's more like he's a special friend to her and she looks up to him, that's why she wanted to follow him but upon following him to where he went to college, she learned that she had to be independent and not rely on him as much.

This drama doesn't revolve around one thing. The supporting cast plays a big role in the drama, it isn't only about the leading characters. The drama includes friendships, first loves, family, college life and change. The friendships are strong in this drama and they play a big part.

Characters: One of the best things about this drama is that there's no evil rivals. The characters in the drama are sincerely good people and you can really relate to them. Both the leading actress and second lead actress are incredible: both of them consider each others feelings and stay good friends. It's truly realistic. The interactions between the main couple and the other couples are so cute too! I love how at first the leading actor, Liu Chuan, seems perfect in every aspect but as the story progresses you see he has his flaws as well. Ren Wei also redeems himself, at first he may seem inconsiderate but as the story continues, you'll understand him more. Not to mention how difficult it is to stay angry at him, he is simply hilarious. xD

There's not a single character I hate in the drama, all of them are beautifully written with their own personalities and conflicts.

Music: Songs match with what's happening and a nice touch to the drama!

If you want a change from the melodramas or unrealistic story plots, you should consider watching this drama because I'm loving it so far! :D

This was such a refreshing drama with well rounded characters. It tells a beautiful story about people just like us, who are trying to find their own voice and identity.

Things I liked: There were no evil characters, just beautiful and flawed ones. I became invested in all of their stories and I felt that I was a part of their group. The slow cooked romance was beautifully done, even though sometimes the pacing might become frustrating for some. The acting was pretty good generally, especially Lego Li, who seemed so genuine in his reactions. The friendships were the heart of the show and I really like how they supported each other. The writers did a terrific job in linking very small details and events; there were a great deal of symbols spread throughout the show and I thought the characters had very deep and meaningful conversations most of the times. There was also a great deal of humour and I laughed out loud many times while I only cried about two times.
The music was also very good and it helped build up the 90's vibe.
Most of the time this drama was very realistic and I felt like it was a delicious slice of life.

Things I didn't like: Well, I really loved this drama, so there aren't many things I can complain about except...the ending. The ending wasn't bad, it was acceptable, but it left me wanting more. I read there will be a movie so hopefully we will get te answers we were looking for.

I recommed this drama to those of you who want to take a break from the usual crazy plots and who want to be pleasently surprised.

Just watched the last episode and I knew the ending will turn out like this. Many people might be shocked by the decision made by Liu Chuan, but I actually find that it is the best way to end the story. Yes I am extremely supportive with Liu Chuan and Jia En couple, which is also why I am glad that Liu Chuan has made such decision. This shows how much he has loved her, this shows how much he wanted her to have freedom, and this is the real Liu Chuan we know. Furthermore, the purpose of this drama is not romance, it is to learn the real meaning of freedom. But I am still quite dissatisfied of the ending as it seems quite rushed. It doesn't show what happen to the casts after a year, we can't get a single clue of whether they have learnt and found their own freedom.
Overall, the story plot was satisfying. It was quite rare to have a 90s era drama. I love how the crew made much effort to set up the scenes in the 1990s, like the beepers, the watches and especially the songs. Listening to the soundtracks just make us recall our childhood times, ahhhh nostalgia. Even the actors and actresses portrayed their own characters very well - I could actually see the development of many characters, how much they had matured from episode 1 till the last episode, especially Ren Wei. I love him more and more when I used to find him annoying in the first few episodes.
Nevertheless, this drama taught me many things, and the whole story is really meaningful. A very unique plot which I have never watched before. A drama worth watching unless you are really into romance genre.

Finding a good Taiwanese drama is extremely difficult and I've repeatedly failed on finding a TW drama that I loved...until now. This drama is so breathtaking and refreshing-a stark contrast from previous dramas I watched. I'm a hardcore melodrama lover but this drama is beautiful!

Story: The thing that I love above the story of this drama is that it doesn't revolve around one core thing (i.e. revenge, politics, assassins etc...) but it covers a broad range of life issues like friendships, first loves, college life, etc. The story is a story about a group of college students growing, learning, and developing as they become more acquainted with each other. The developing friendships and love are realistic and natural; it's such a REFRESHING change from forced love and enemies-become-lovers kind of stories. I LOVE the interactions between friends in this drama; they are so sincere and genuine-not forced at all. The story is a kind of tale that pulls you into it, making you bitter with jealousy of this beautiful world. There are conflicts, love, rivalry, frustrations throughout this drama. After all, this is a drama about the stages of friendship and love.

Characters: For once in my life I am ecstatic to announce that BOTH main girls in this drama have such beautiful hearts. They are not whiny like most female leads. On the contrary, they are the exact opposite. The main girl, Jia en, begins the story as a girl who can't quite let go of her childhood friend. Her growth into an independent and strong woman is realistic; her new found friendships are simply super! The 2nd female lead is not bitter about everything-she is kind and understanding, something that is very rare in most dramas. The main male lead is for once, not a jerk. He may seem perfect but as the story unravels itself, it is clear that he's not perfect; he has internal conflicts within his family and himself. The 2nd male lead is hilarious; his actions make me laugh my head off and turn my stomach out. He's the comedic highlight of the drama-the extremes he goes to please Bai Xue is excessive and unnecessary but that is what makes it funny. No character is annoying to the extreme. To me, the characters are lovable.

It's a breath of fresh air in the midst of all these dramas featuring revenge, chaos, war, and politics.

Only 4 episodes, but I'm practically obsessed! I somehow ended up trying out this taiwanese drama and I'm so glad I did!

This drama is about the growth of college students and their developing relationships. It has a slight reply 1994 with a mix of Skip Beat (in the beginning) feel to it.

I love seeing the female lead already growing into a confident, independent woman and knowing that she's not done growing yet. The adorable love forming between her and the male lead spares us of the whole "Hate/Love with a bad boy or emotionally scarred, lone wolf guy" routine that I'm so grateful for. He's a nice, intelligent, FRIENDLY, popular, athletic guy but not so perfect that irks or turns viewers away. I'm also grateful there isn't an evil character sabotaging everything (yet!).

This drama is a breath of fresh air for me. It's cute, charming, with great characters and unfortunately has episodes once a week. Here's hoping that it remains a personal favorite.

So I actually started watching this drama when itwas aired, and I absolutely loved it, but towards the end I found the plot starting to drag so I decided to finish it later... Almost one YEAR on, I've finished it!
I think i'll just sum it up quickly... Loved the acting, and the OST (I still listen to it today and have a huge love for old mandorock/pop tunes! There are many episodes worth re-watching, but I think the final few episodes weren't that great. I loved how relaxing yet exciting the plot was, and it was nice to see a perhaps more realistic view of university/college :D

9/10 score, very happy, just wish the ending was cleared up a little more :)

Eight episodes into my first T-Drama and I'm totally hooked! It is superb, and a refreshing example of nostalgia done right, avoiding all the mistakes made in Answer Me 1994. The characters in this are all believable and likeable, with the chemistry between the leads very, very real. The way it makes me care about secondary characters like Xiao Wei is a testament to the quality of the writing, and I hope it stays this good right to the end.

i found this drama so incredibly disappointing, mostly because the first act was so refreshing and funny. for the 1st 12 or so eps i was thinking this could be my new favorite drama. the second act morphed into something draggy and boring. getting to even the smallest plot developments was like pulling teeth. but i kept going, looking forward to the time jump to 2005 promised by pretty much every synopsis not on MDL. it never happens instead we get dragged into the third act that gets just weird and weepy but still somehow draggy and boring at the same time.

the actors were great but i just got so sick of watching them dance around the same issues for five or more episodes. the drama i finished bore almost no resemblance to the drama i started.

This is a breathe of fresh air where dramas are concerned! The story line is exciting yet it deals with daily life and things that most people can relate with. The actors (and I mean all of them) are amazing! I laugh and cry and cheer for them. Looking forward to the rest of the episodes and won't be happy when it ends! In the world of dramas, where most dramas are too fantastic to believe . . . it is believable! 10/10!

I really like this show. Recommended

I am following Lego Li's work, right now. I really like this drama. I like chemistry of Lego and Lorene in this show. They both matched very well. Also, I love the OST in this show. All the songs are classic and really 1995, even thought I am not Taiwanese; and this was my first time to heard those songs. But I can related to all those songs because all the song in the 90's in Thailand had the same sound and style. So this show really throw me back down the memory lain. I like the end of the show because it made this drama very real.

this was my first Taiwanese drama so i wasn't expecting much but i actually really enjoyed it. this drama doesn't have a very serious plot but the development of the characters and their relationships is great. the leading couple are full of cuteness ... its so adorable i just wanna take Lui Shan home with me, he is literally the "perfect" guy. this story is set in 1995 so if you were a fan of dramas such as "reply 1997", this is a good recommendation :)
