I'm not sure if there's already a thread on this, since I can't find the search function in this forum. Any Deutsche out there? I'm trying to improve my German so I'd really love to hear some recommendations especially on soaps. I've already watched: Das weisse Band Der Untergang Auf der anderen Seite Das Leben der Anderen Die freie Wille Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei Meinhof Baader Complex
I'm German, but to be honest I don't know even one of those titles. :O I guess I won't be much help since I hardly ever watch TV and don't like any of the german soaps. ^^

I don't watch TV either despite being in Germany, but I really need to improve mein Deutsch so I'm forcing myself to watch. :( I've checked out a few soaps on Youtube (Sturm der Liebe, etc.) but they're really not my thing.

Looks like I'd have to watch Asian dramas with German subs instead. Do you know such a website? Dramacrazy only had french subs :(
There's one I like very much: it's Berlin, Berlin, Berlin, but I can't find it anywhere, sadly :(
I live in German but I really don't like german movies and tv series very much. But there are some tv shows which were very popular in the last years or critically acclaimed

Doctor's Diary

Danni Lowinski

Türkisch für Anfänger

I live in Austria, but I'm not an Austrian either. There's this show my sis is addicted to lol, it's titled Berlin Tag und Nacht, it's a reality show. There's also this crime show Tatort, I guess. In between, I don't enjoy watching German series, except for the ones I see my siblings watch and I just watch them to pass time.
I don't know if it will be of much help for you, but if you don't know this site then I would recommend it to you:

You can watch a lot of movies and series in german or in english
Hope it will help! :)

Just wanted to recommend it too :D
Thankfully I was faster! :P Say Mirichan, I only know this site; do you know any others to watch or/and download movies in german? I haven't practiced my german since high school... >.<
Oh, and by the way I remember enjoying Goodbye Lenin, Keinorhhaasen and Barfuss (or was it Barfüsse...?); thoose were cute comedy with quite good actors!
@littleankou: The german movies are available in dvd shops, though some I've watched through online streaming :) Yup, I've watched Goodbye Lenin too, as well as Lola rennt. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'm definitely checking out your recommendations :)
Hey! I was a German Studies major in college. Which means I kind of know German, hehehe.. it's been a while. I did a German film class though one semester, so I ended up watching TONS of German movies.

My recs:
Goodbye, Lenin
Run, Lola, Run (Lola Rennt) - almost a 'short' film
The Marriage of Maria Braun
The Edukators
In Juli
Dresden - awesome miniseries
Sissi - historical miniseries/trilogy

Another fun thing to do.. for Kdrama fans.. is to find German-subbed dramas. It's a little disorienting at first (German and Korean are sooo different), but it helps on the conversational part. I've been watching a few dramas recently with German subs, and it's brought a lot back to my memory. You can sometimes find them on Daily Motion. Or, visit http://0saranghae.de/wordpress/projekte/
*gasp* Will this be the next thing to provide a distraction for me? Dare I ask if any of you know of some that have English subs? ( I am a sucker for trying something new/different)

Wow, I'm so scattered tonight. lol
My favorite German TV-series is Unsere Mütter Unsere Väter. It's simply awesome!
