Hi, I'm so tired from predictable romances, where everything is clear in the episode 1-2, you know they will have some problems but even problems and resolving methods are same... love triangles aren't real triangles because in most of them it's obvious ML will get the girl, often second guy doesn't have any chance, she only sees one guy but misunderstandings happen, though we all know the end...

please recommend dramas with unexpected romances:

1. where main lead loves someone and we even think they are end game but then story/characters develop and this main lead falls for another (I'm not talking about standard version, where main character has someone or ex and it ends in 1-2 episodes, when we already know they wont be couple)

2. real love triangles, where you really not sure who will she/he choose/falls in love

3. not romance focus interesting drama with good main plot and romance as side story, maybe not big part of drama but good chemistry, interesting and fresh, I mean story that you wont forget after few weeks )))) also not predictable.

main point is, I dont want more romances or other plot what I already know from the beginning ...

p.s. dramas I already know: Reply series, The King in Love , When I Was the Most Beautiful , Born Again , Dream High,  Sound of the Desert, Chuno, Lucifer, Girls' Generation 1979, My First First Love, Love Alarm, Bread, Love and Dreams,    Itaewon Class, A Poem a Day, Star April, Money Flower, When A Man's in Love, Empress Ki, Ja Myung Go , Lady & Liar, A Man's Story, Boys Over Flower, I Need Romance 3, Doom at Your Service, The Innocent Man, True Beauty, Cheese in the Trap

  • +1 Story of Yanxi Palace - I'm still a little bitter about it.
  • +1 The Story of Ming Lan - I was happy with the way things went in this one.
  • Mr. Queen - I am still very bitter about it.
  • Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo - The FL falls in and out of love with Brother 1. Then falls in love with Brother 2 but eventually has a falling out with him, leaves him, and gives birth to his child without his knowledge after marrying Brother 3.

  • Ms. Perfect - The main plot was personally not my cup of tea, but it was so wild it definitely wasn't predictable / forgettable, and the romantic subplot involved good chemistry.
  • Misty - Good main plot, not forgettable and I wasn't expecting the ending. There are three men that have romantic entanglements with the FL. IMO she never falls in love with any of them, but they aren't boring and I found one of them very compelling in an unusual way (he kills to protect her).

thank you very much.

if others will also have recommendations would be great, though I prefere Kdramas, also maybe high quality Jdramas and realistic modern Cdramas, but not vuxia and all the same historical Cdramas, they are good at first but after few soo repetitive :(

Hello Monster

I don't know others but seen it, GREAT drama except of romance (sorry, if you liked it) but couldn't understand how it fits here? romance was kind of forced so there would be romance tag too and it was obvious from the beginning she liked him and if there would be romance would be them...

I think you could probably say it fits under #3? I liked the romance in that one, and the "triangle" is a bit unique in the sense that instead of a love triangle where the ML is torn between two love interests, it instead seems like he will have to choose between the FL and his brother and its not clear until the end that he will choose to come back to the FL

I feel I should add warnings for each of them. For Misty: the characters are all flawed, many viewers found the leads difficult to like and most viewers did not like the ending. For Ms. Perfect, I enjoyed the romantic storyline, but just be aware that the skinship is very limited.

 AH :

yeaaa that's really unique, not romance style and because that didn't thought about it as plus for romance part, though as plot it was great, as many other very unique things in this drama, for example ML and overall drama treating very heavy criminals quite light, almost not judging, treating them like humans who have their truth and motives... I liked it very much, this drama was rare example of "not just black & white but gray" in dramaland .

though I wouldn't agree that ML chooses FL, maybe I'm subjective but I even couldn't see love or chemistry between them, for me that romance was forced, when ML had such chemistry with Min and even with that older "bad guy" dont remember name.  I can't see him choosing her, I saw man (and not just some character, but main protogonist) who stands on the side of law gives freedom his serial killer brother, such thing is rare even in western tv series. Of course he couldn't hang out with him like nothing, he would be in search at list... anyway for me that was more then choosing him, I saw it as Min was main human for him... also that was reason the killer tried to kill him not FL...

yes at the end ML kiss FL and happy ending, but emotionally I didn't felt that he choose her over brother, it was more like bonus for romance tag because romances are selling better

anyway one of the best and most unusual drama with BEST OST, that song "remember" fits sooooo well

I agree 100 % who ever recommend Que será será, Fashion King and Discovery of Love. I think older dramas had way better plot than now.

I always say it, + less taboo (is it sex / moral subject, main leads morality (I mean humans have issues, sins and some bad side too and making mains too perfect is unrealistic and uninteresting) or even simple body language of female characters  who are more free in old dramas)

Discovery of Love - did you mean Discovery of Romance? because I couldn't find "Discovery of Love"

Omg yes Discovery of Romance.

other recommendations please ??

real love triangles (when you don't know who will end up together) would be great

I went more for the multiple relationships through the drama. For most of these, there's not much suspense who will end up with.

I'm surprised that Summer's Desire doesn't appear in the thread already, it totally matches your criteria. The 2010 version is best.

Que Sera Sera,  idem.

Loving not forgetting (they both are seeing someone at the middle mark)

I think Before We Get Married also matches because they are both heavily involved elsewhere and you just don't know what's gonna happen.

Duen pradab Dao is a Thai drama about a free spirit girl who starts living her more uppity twin's life and finds herself between two guys: the one she'd choose if she was being herself and the one her sister would choose. Very light hearted at first but angst builds up really well in the second half when she might be getting a bit too comfortable in her sister's shoes...

Last Cinderella it takes you a while to understand who she will be with. Though I wouldn't call the relationships a love Triangle , more like a line, going through points A to B  to C.

Mia Noi not sure this qualifies but he has to watch her go through two different relationships (she's a mistress) and on his side he does get married. There's no question about who the ML is, you just wonder how they'll possibly get together...

The spies who loved me, they used to be married. Now she's happily married to another. I've yet to finish it but as of episode 3, I feel extremely confident about who she ends up with
