THE FEELS!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT'S OVER! ToT ♥

    +amazing soundtrack
+really great execution of transitioning the novel to live adaptation.
    +ML is a cat lover
+Xiao Mi and his precious smile!!
+does a great job of highlighting the struggles of being a pro esports player and their short careers. some people make it big, some people don't, but at least they dare to dream.
+pretty hilarious.  it's more comedy in the beginning than romance.
+ML is such a dad lol with him secretly taking care of "the kids"
+the supporting characters and their side stories (relevant side stories, not lame fillers).
+the guys and their outfits (A+ mens fashion, except maybe team SP's uniforms).

-cute FL, but her cuteness can get somewhat cringey sometimes.
-too many flashbacks to the past (10 years prior). if you've read the novel these flashbacks actually enhance your viewing experience since they explain a lot of things the novel did not. plus, they incorporate stuff from other books in the series.
-FL's fashion. WTF! there are a lot of lolita jokes in the novel bc of the age gap. Yang Zi is already acting as someone 10 years younger than her actual age and then to then dress her like a 12 year old kid is kind of disturbing. also lots of weird loose bell sleeves and ribbons going on. @_@
-chinese nationalist propaganda (which the writer probably had to incorporate to get her drama to air)

I love how they tied the ending back to the beginning.  I also appreciate how production team timed this drama so that it was airing when the investigation results for Cambridge Analytica came out.  There is just so much thought that went into this drama.   Definitely worth the hype.

The cons: I can't quite put my finger on them...probably the relationship problems of two of the characters. Also, the evil MIL trope is so overrated.

  • Princess Silver

I really wanted to drop this so badly, but I'm glad I didn't.  The twists and turns in the last 8 episodes were back to back great.  Do I think this was worth watching as a whole?...probably not.  It was super draggy.  The first 10 episodes or so are probably worth watching and like I mentioned before, the drama redeemed itself in those later episodes.  There were two other love interests in this drama and my heart broke for both of them.  Also, I love Aarif Rahman, but he should probably stick to romantic comedies.  The brooding prince thing was amusing to watch at first, but got old fast.

  • If I Can Love You So

    105. If I Can Love You So

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 46 episodes

    6.5

T-T I've been crying for the last 10 episodes. This started off really great and had a main couple with amazing chemistry.  That was like 25% of the drama. Then it got to the typical "drama" shenanigans that cdrama have. The rest 75% was filled with these tropes. I didnt mind most of them, but some really aggravate me like amnesia, sabatoging best friend, and risky pregnancies. I was watching another cdrama at the same time and it had those exact same tropes! I was so done. Other than that, it can get addicting.

Oh and I totally loved the second lead even though I was rooting for the main lead. You might get a little bit of SLS. I didn't like Frank at first but my heart broke for him by the end and I was conflicted over who to ship together...but main lead is the obvious choice.

  • Hello Debate Opponent

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 30 episodes

I really loved this drama so much.  I'm not ready to say goodbye.  Let me tell you, this was a seriously underrated Chinese youth drama for 2019.  I never liked debate before or studying debate when I was in school, but this drama actually made me feel the thrill of debate.  It is written by actual debaters and their love for debate clearly comes across in this drama.  You can feel the rush and excitement of competing as well as the stress and the amount of hard work that goes into preparation.   It really made me appreciate it.  As a youth drama, it does have some romance in it, but that is not the focus.  The focus is on debate, which I loved because it stuck to the subject matter.  I also loved the character growth of the main characters.  They each had their own difficulties to overcome and became excellent debaters by the end.

The only con I think of is that it was occasionally hard to keep up with what they were saying during debate scenes.  The characters were up against a timer and therefore would talk really fast to get as many points across as possible.  I had to stop and read what they were saying quite frequently.

p.s. Some of the supporting characters featured in this drama were actual debaters too.

p.p.s. Did I mention there's an adorable cat?

Someone described this as horny, teenage girl fanfiction from the 2000s and I couldn't agree more. Ugh. idk how to describe this. On one hand...Yes, this drama is super cringey...especially with the cheesy dialogue and unrealistic ML who seems to cater toward teenage girls' fantasies.  And yet I continued to watch this, probably cuz it was a light watch and kind of cute. On the other hand, this actually was a really good drama adaptation. The drama followed the manga really well...at times even word for word. The transition from manga to on screen format was well executed. I cannot fault this drama for its plot. I may not like the original story, but I can say the production team, staff, and cast did a good job of putting this together given the content they were dealing with. Some people didn't like some actors and I have to say...it wasnt bad acting, their characters were like that in the first place.

    Plot: 6/10

  • The King’s Avatar

They ended it at a good stopping point. :)

So, although I love TKA a lot, I think I had had higher expectations as a fan. Don't get me wrong.  It IS a solid good adaptation.  There were just some things that really irked me...the first being the dubbing. I know they used some of the same voice actors from the animated series as a nod to TKA fans, but it still seemed unnatural af and gave a cheap production vibe. I wasn't a fan of the sound mixing either.  The graphics were GREAT.  The subs were not...even the Netflix released version.  I also didn't like how they didn't translate names of teams/usernames like they did in the novel and animated series. It would have been great if they kept translations consistent given that TKA already has a huge existing fanbase.  It's not the drama's fault, but it ruined my drama viewing experience nonetheless.

Anyways, I loved this group of dorks a lot and the writers left room open for a season 2. :) One can hope.

♥♥♥ This drama is for cat lovers. =)  It was great.  For a drama that is technically not about cats, it was pretty in your face with the cat theme...which can be seen by the intro song lol.

Some parts were kind of unrealistic.  The ML is a doctor and the medical stuff made little sense at times.  Like, at one point I'm pretty sure he operated on his own family member. o_0

    113. Deep in My Heart

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 28 episodes

A psychometric drama meets multiple personality disorder drama...As odd as it sounds, it's actually kind of refreshing.  It has good acting and music.  For the most part, it's well paced and keeps you interested.  It's downfall is that it's fairly predictable.  The guy I was suspecting from episode 2 to be the villain did indeed turn out to be the villain.  I guess I was expecting some twist.  Also, some things kind of seem unrealistic, but then again it IS a fantasy drama (considering the psychometric factor), so I'll give it a pass for the fantasy genre.

  • Pretty Man

    114. Pretty Man

    Chinese Drama - 2018, 28 episodes

    4.0

I hated this. Super draggy and it has misunderstanding after misunderstanding.  To be fair, I hated the novel too.  I do agree that the novel is better than the drama, but it also has an extremely toxic relationship and I had to drop it after reading 1/3 of it.   The drama toned things way down for the better.

  • Conspiracy of Love

    115. Conspiracy of Love

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes

    6.0

The beginning episodes were really interesting.  I loved the fact that the FL is vengeful b*tch out for blood.  She doesn't try to act all cute like most cdrama FLs.  Then the drama takes a weird turn and pretty much has an identity crisis.  KEEP IN MIND THIS IS A SCI-FI.  It's just all really very odd.

  • Stairway to Stardom

    116. Stairway to Stardom

    Chinese Drama - 2017, 50 episodes

    6.5

The last ten episodes were draggy, but I think it was worth watching once if you're a Push fan. Although you must keep in mind that he is not present the entire drama. Also, this is a melodrama and I think it's a fairly solid for a melodrama...just lengthy and had some bad dubbing. Hence, I didn't give it a full 7, but I could probably round up too.  At the end of the day I did enjoy this drama.

  • Unique Lady

    117. Unique Lady

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 12 episodes

    7.0

I feel like this is meant for a younger audience, so I'm going to say it's not bad for its intended audience.  I wanted to drop this at first, especially with the FL being so thirsty. xD It kind of has like 4 really different plots that all connect with the FL.  I'm not sure if parody is right the word to describe this, but it references some major tropes/storylines from historical/supernatural cdramas and they all come together pretty nicely.  Although sometimes it does feel all over the place jumping back and forth with these different plots.  It's pretty light and definitely different.  Beware of the slightly cliffhanger ending (hinting at a season 2, but no confirmation).

Since this drama is about plot holes, throw all logic out the window including the fact that the ML fictional character is a CEO/student and it's totally okay for a professor to date a student. o_0 Other than that, it's written pretty well for its genre.  Do not compare this to W...they have nothing in common except having an author who enters his own graphic novel. This is more on the happier/sweet side.

  • With You

    120. With You

  • When the Devil Calls Your Name

    121. When the Devil Calls Your Name

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.0

This had mixed reviews on my friends feed. People either loved it or hated it.  I loved it.  The first 11 episodes were AMAZING.  Then people's souls started to get collected and it was difficult to watch soulless people you once loved.  Things slowed down in those last few episodes, but it was a nice wrap up to the series. I had fun connecting the puzzle pieces behind the mystery (though some of it was predictable).  I loved how everything connected in the end.

    A+ Acting
    A+ Soundtrack

  • Be Melodramatic

    122. Be Melodramatic

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.5

This was like Age of Youth 30 year old version (when you actually kind of have to start adulting).  A lot of scenes had me laughing so hard and some scenes had me crying. There were a few scenes that were annoying and boring as well, but I fast forwarded through them.  As ridiculous as these characters were, some parts were totally relatable. Some scenes were just so real despite all the melodrama and the comedy.

  • It's Okay to Be Sensitive

    123. It's Okay to Be Sensitive

    Korean Drama - 2018, 12 episodes

    8.0

I feel like 80% of the guys shown in this are depicted as scum and that's because this show feeds off the #MeToo movement.  It's a feminist webdrama that calls out problematic behavior in men (and women).  It's actually really great, especially with how it deals with awkward uncomfortable situations.

  • The Great Show

    124. The Great Show

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

I'm just a sucker for dramas with adorable, funny kids in them.  This was  wholesome for a political drama.  If you liked Stars Falling From the Sky or Speedy Scandal, chances are you'll like this too.

umm, I'm just gonna pretend that that ending never happened.

This was basically fanservice designed to make your nose bleed over and over again.  It was highly addicting.  The plot was lacking for me, but they did a great job working around censorship laws.

    126. My Neighbour Can't Sleep

    127. Occupied Heart

    Thai Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    Does Weir even age?

Basically this is a story of gruff island man who saves damsel in distress multiple times. She's rich and he's secretly rich/well respected in society.  They fall in love blah blah blah blah some drama and then the end.  I feel like I've seen this lakorn plot so many times.  Weir needs to stop being typcasted in these roles. At least his character is a gentleman this time. :)

    1. Good pilot episode and great cast, but overall pretty average.
    2. I just cant do dramas about affairs. Although the main couple is technically not cheating, there is another couple that is.
    3. Is pink hair a new fad in jdramas for guys who represent youth?

  • Confession

    130. Confession

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    7.0

It was good and had twists and all, but it just didn't have me hooked. As people are saying, I do see similarities with Remember - War of the Son (a drama I dropped). This was better though.

  • Gank Your Heart

    131. Gank Your Heart

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 35 episodes

    7.0

This is my second time watching this (with subs this time) and I still really liked it.  I think out of the 3 esports cdramas that aired this summer, this one represented the esports side and fandom the best.  I also liked how the FL had her own career goal that she aimed for.  Some parts were draggy toward the end, but it wasn't too bad.

As for the other 2 dramas, Go Go Squid represented the struggles of esports players the best and The King's Avatar represents the love and thrill for the game the best.

  • Lucky's First Love

    132. Lucky's First Love

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes

    7.5

Kind of had some Taiwanese drama vibes.  No evil sabotaging friends. I love the main actress (except maybe her wig, but she's still growing her hair out after Arsenal Military Academy).  She has a very natural style of acting. Good stuff. :)  Hits the spot for this genre.

  • Level Up

    133. Level Up

    Korean Drama - 2019, 12 episodes

    4.0

Level up was yet another drama that tried to catch on to the game company/tech startup train, but failed to miss the mark. Sung Hoon was typecasted as a jerk CEO who is very capable of doing his job...basically with high IQ and low EQ. However, as successful as Sung Hoon is in these types of roles, this character was really uninteresting. There was barely any character growth. Like the drama's title, it was a level up and nothing more.

There was hardly any chemistry between the two leads or even the second leads. I even had to check to see if this was indeed a romance (it is). The main actress's acting was subpar. This was my second attempt at completing this drama. Once I got passed the 2nd episode mark it became much more bearable to watch. At times it felt like the writers threw a bunch of things in there that they felt young fangirls would like. This drama does have some really enjoyable moments, but overall I felt like it was a waste of time.

  • The Untamed

    134. The Untamed

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 50 episodes

    8.5

It's 4:30 in the morning and I'm not sure what to rate this, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and go with the higher number. Good stuff, good acting, good CGI (I really liked that black smokey stuff), pretty solid action. Some parts were confusing and I did rely heavily on the timed comments for explanations and comparisons to the novel. As amusing as the commentary was, it came with a price (spoilers). Not that they were too bad, but it may have affected my experience a bit.

The drama did have me posting my reactions a LOT on here so that's a good sign. The ending was partly anticlimactic and I guess I'm still kind of confused at how odd some stuff was (im not talking about the mastermind). My only other complaint is that they spent a lot of time on flashbacks/back story explanations which could've been done briefly, but they spent episodes on some of them (excluding the main one).

Also not too big of a spoiler, but minor complaint in my spoiler comment below.

  • Cat's Bar

    135. Cat's Bar

    Korean Drama - 2019, 10 episodes

    8.5

Totally biased rating because apparently seeing guys act like cats is my weakness.  It's actually pretty good for webdrama standards though.   I need a season 3!

  • Golden Garden

    136. Golden Garden

    Korean Drama - 2019, 60 episodes

    3.0

A trashy makjang for fans of the genre.  There were a lot of illogical things (even for makjang standards) so my rating is lower in comparison to those dramas.  The last episode was very satisfying, but overall I was not impressed.   I love the lead cast.  The focus was not too much on the romance in this drama (more on the villains). Speaking of which, one of the moms is a straight up gangster lol.

  • Wait, My Youth

    137. Wait, My Youth

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes

    6.0

If I start another cdrama this year where deskmates fall in love, can you please just shoot me? I've just seen this plot done so many times these past two years and I don't think this drama brought anything new to the table. Other than that, the lead actor was  great. The FL just seemed awkward though...like she acted like a 10 year old when she was supposed to be a 7th grader. :/ Things got much better once they reached college atleast. Maybe I'm just going through school/youth drama burnout.

  • Take My Brother Away

    138. Take My Brother Away

    Chinese Drama - 2018, 30 episodes

    7.5

This actually had really great writing, but it was also really difficult to get through.  On one hand, it's funny, heartwarming, goofy, campy, 4th wall breaking/experimental. If I could compare it to any other western tv show, I'd say it's similar to Community.  On the other hand, it's episodic and there's really no overall plot other than seeing these siblings *slowly* grow.  This is not a binge-able drama. I'd recommend watching no more than 2 episodes at a time.

As a side note, I loved how the writers showed this contrast between two pairs of siblings who are drastically different in terms of circumstances, but also so alike.

  • Soft Memory

    139. Soft Memory

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 20 episodes

    4.5

The first half was 6, the second half was a 4.  This had bad writing from beginning to end. The story would change directions without much purpose throughout the drama. Even from the start, it's unclear who the main character even is. Chu Lu's story was the most interesting. However, at the halfway point things take a sudden turn and Chu Lu's character changes for the worse. Things don't start picking up again until toward the end. The music was pretty decent since this is a music related drama. I really liked the friendship aspect of this series and how the gang chased after their dreams of becoming musicians together.  I guess on the plus side, one of the benefits of the messy writing is that this drama is unpredictable....but on the down side I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either because of it.

  • Love and Destiny

    140. Love and Destiny

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 60 episodes

    7.5

Quality wise this was pretty up there with Eternal Love and Ashes of Love. The acting was phenomenal. Ni Ni and Chang Chen slayed their roles. Many people were being petty over the age gap, but I think it can be looked over in this drama. Both are fantastic actors and deserved their roles. Also, this had gorgeous costumes and sets. I regret not screenshotting some of Ling Xi's outfits. T-T

OH, and this drama managed to sneak an LGBT character in!!! It has a male fish who cultivated into a man and then when he reached higher cultivation, cultivated into a woman! (mermaid) And the whole heavenly realm getting used to her being a woman now was just hilarious and I loved all of it. ♥ They were all like, "You're a woman now! It would be inappropriate" to some of the things she'd do xD.

Despite loving all of that, I didn't give it a higher rating because after 20 episodes or so the story gets really draggy and slow. I'd have to sit through an endless amount of dialogue for things to slowly progress. It was frustrating at times. Ling Xi's time in the mortal realm could've been sped up a lot faster too. This plot could have been done in 40 episodes...or even 30. Other than that, it really was a fantastic drama.

  • Woman of Dignity

    141. Woman of Dignity

    Korean Drama - 2017, 20 episodes

    7.0

One of the few dramas where the second half is better than the first.  This wasn't exactly my cup of tea.  The first half was mainly just rich housewives of Gangnam gossiping and being shallow.  There was way too much infidelity for my liking.  There's almost a very western/American vibe to this drama.

The first episode led me to believe it was going to be more of a murder mystery, which was kind of a let down when they didn't cover this part of the story in the first half.   As for the murderer...I suspected who it was all along, but I really hoped that it wouldn't be this person.  It's not an easily predictable drama though. :)

  • Cheat My Boss

    142. Cheat My Boss

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 24 episodes

    7.5

I can't believe I reached the end. T-T  This was such a guilty pleasure drama...not that it was bad.  I really loved it.  The FL and ML are absolutely adorable and not in a cheesy way. Idk why, but for some reason the ML reminded me of a sleepy cat lol. Anyways, gotta love Tian Yi in this male chases female storyline. ♥

At first, in the beginning, I couldn't tell if the actress was bad at acting or if her dubbing was bad, but she's so adorable that I looked over it.  Luckily, whatever seemed off about her improved over time.  Some people weren't into the business side of the drama, but I found it interesting.  Plot: 7/10

  • Melting Me Softly

    143. Melting Me Softly

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    6.0

    A+ Casting
Starts to get boring after ep 6, then picks up at 10, then kind of remains stagnant.  Not too bad if you speed watch the drama.  I went in with low expectations.  Of course there were plenty of plot holes and illogical moments, so throw all logic out the window.  The show was especially funny in the beginning and had about 2 golden moments per episode thereafter.  I was considering giving this a 6.5, but the last two episodes were kind of a disappointment.

  • I Have Three Boyfriends

    144. I Have Three Boyfriends

    Korean Drama - 2019, 10 episodes

    4.0

I watched this at 2x playback speed just so I could found out what the twist was. Okay, it was a decent twist. The drama has its funny moments, but overall it is not my thing. She is dating 3 guys at once and lying about it. It's not really a spoiler since it's addressed in the first episode.

  • Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita

    145. Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita

Refreshing and informative. It has many layers to it, so I might go back and rewatch this to see if I find anything I missed.

  • Dear My Name

    146. Dear My Name

    Korean Drama - 2019, 6 episodes

Simple, cute, kind of a guilty pleasure.

  • When the Camellia Blooms

    147. When the Camellia Blooms

    Korean Drama - 2019, 40 episodes

    6.0

It has it's touching moments, but overall I felt kind of bored.  The thriller subplot didn't pull me in too much either and they didn't cover it until the second half.  This drama is more on the slow paced side.

ML's mom is refreshing, but also kind of a hypocrite. :/

  • Extraordinary You

    148. Extraordinary You

    Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes

    7.5

I don't know how to rate this.  The first 10 episodes were like a 9 for me, but then it becomes mediocre. The FL reminds me of FL in Strong Girl Do Bong Soon (personality wise) ♥. There was a lot of thought that went into this plot.  There were also just so many subtle details and you really have to pay attention to appreciate them and the symbolism.  I loved how it was fourth wall breaking and campy.  What made it mediocre in the second half was that the story gets kind of repetitive and there are just some frustrating things that happen.

I was #TeamHaru, but Baek Kyung's character growth, especially in the last 4 episodes, hit me like a ton of bricks.  Even earlier on, he would tug at my heartstrings post *incident*, but he still had major anger management issues so I was reluctant to join #TeamBaekKyung.

Someone had posted an image on the global feed, and even though it wasn't a spoiler (it might have been a promo poster), it was a major hint for a plot twist mid series. :/ It kind of spoiled it for me, but whatever.

Wooow, shit ended in a cliffhanger. I'm so pissed. Anyways, my rating as well as thoughts below are from before I watched the finale episode.

Vagabond is a blockbuster drama with top notch action and cinematography. LSG's role was practically written for him. Plotwise, nothing really pulled me in though. The first two episodes were difficult to watch. How on earth are these the same writers as Empress Ki and History of Salaryman? This plot was so ridiculously unbelievable. The ML is some rando that somehow gets involved with the NIS and THEY JUST LET HIM HANG AROUND because they are so incompetent. I hated 90% of the characters. It's a very westernized drama and I feel like it's missing something...like that pizazz Asian dramas tend to have. Vagabond is probably better suited for a movie format than it is for a drama. I liked the second half better than the first and I think that's because "Vagabond" comes more into play.

I'm sorry, but some of this was so corny...Believe it or not conspiracy dramas have their tropes too and this was a whole bunch of them thrown in together. Some of the characters were very cookie cutter villain. You only have to watch a couple of these types of dramas to figure out who the real mastermind is. If this is your first conspiracy drama, you'll probably love it though.

Consistently good from beginning to end. I have not read the webtoon so I cannot compare this work to the original. I enjoyed this drama a lot. The first half was hilarious. Like most romantic comedy sageuks, the drama starts of hilarious and cute, but takes a dark and serious turn. However, even though the tone of the drama changed, it was still interesting for me to watch. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous about the ending. Once a key character's real identity was revealed, I went and looked them up on Wikipedia to read up on history. I was worried about how historical events would play out, but amazingly I was satisfied with the ending. I also liked how the king was depicted as a grey character. It's interesting considering in history books he is generally viewed as a stable king.

Oh, almost forgot to talk about the lead couple! They are cute, have great chemistry together, and have the most adorable kisses. Jang Dong Yoon's acting as a woman was superb, by the way. ♥ I really have nothing to complain about.

Not sure what was up with that ending. Gom Gae Bal (played by Jang Dong Yoon) is absolutely adorable. The world needs to protect him.

This was a really well made drama. At first I was skeptical because they threw in a bunch of shirtless guys bathing in the first episode and I was like "Oh no! They're relying on fanservice to bait an audience." However, that was not the case thankfully. The drama does turn for the better. It has superb music, phenomenal acting (with complex characters), and great action. It's been awhile since I watched a drama without fast-forwarding.

The two main actors did a fantastic job acting, but I must say
Jang Hyuk stole the show. His role was suited perfectly for him. It's probably my second or third favorite role that I've seen him act in.

I did something a little different with this drama in which I went into this drama completely blind. I did not read the synopsis or know anything about it. I just clicked play when it first came out. It turned out to be an interesting experience going in with no expectations. Also, I'm proud of myself for being able to correctly identify the time period, but once I did it was really difficult not to compare it to that other reeeally popular drama that took place during the same time period.

Loved it.  This is exactly my cup of tea...or should I say brand of wine.  This couple is so cute together, but don't worry. It's not an overly fluffy drama.  It has its corny moments, but they felt more like a guilty pleasure. Overall, entertaining drama.

P.S. Not that this happened, but the ML is exactly the type of ML who would get sympathetic pregnancy on behalf of FL.  I mean, their tastebuds swapped in the past, so I could totally see this happening. xD

Loved it! Watched this with auto-translated subs and 1.5 playback speed. The subs weren't so bad once you figure out the character names (which sometimes ended up getting translated). xD

I liked this remake better than the original. They took out a lot of negative character traits and plot elements I didn't like in the original. However, they also removed the comedy aspect of the drama, which I sort of missed. :( It's not completely devoid of humor though. Instead it's more of a realistic, heartwarming drama. The characters, despite their flaws, are good well intentioned people. (The siblings in the original were scum).

Phew. Kind of predicted that ending, but I'm glad they broke the cycle. The old lady, the girl next door, and the bar owner were my favorite characters. I loved how they would keep one of the characters in check. xD

This was an interesting slice of life that involved "reading the atmosphere", which I'm terrible at by the way. I really can't be fake like that and end up being blunt more times than I would like. It's definitely a talent I appreciate. I wish a had a higher EQ and could communicate well. I related with the FL when it came to some of the socially awkward situations.

  • Secret Garden

    158. Secret Garden

    Thai Drama - 2019, 20 episodes

    6.0

This drama was really lacking compared to the original.  Here are the major differences:
-A lot of the comedy was lost in this remake.  For example, they didn't make fun of his designer tracksuit.
-The drama takes a slightly more realistic approach. Hence, a lot of the comedy is lost.
-Ananda's interpretation of his character was different and I'm not sure i like it. He's really mean and he comes off as more of a creep than the original ML.
-FL knows how to kick ass, yet she lets ML manhandle her A LOT. Like how a typical lakorn praek would.
-Rich MIL and her shallow standards were more of a comedy feature in the original (because she was a joke).  Here they are just shallow standards. Typical lakorn MIL.
-No iconic foam kiss, but a lot more sweet kisses.

What hurt the drama was the sound mixing, which gave more of a romance vibe than a comedy vibe and the action choreography. If you're going to make a drama about a stunt woman, I'm going to judge this area hard.  I love Baifern, but they really should've used a stunt double more often for her action scenes...she comes off stiff/weak, especially in the beginning.

They didn't royally screw this remake up, but it wasn't as entertaining either.

This season is still hilarious as ever...although I think I liked the first season slightly better (no Baby Sol in this one). This season, I'd live for Lee Joon Ki's scenes and fastfoward to his part of the show.

  • From Survivor to Healer

    160. From Survivor to Healer

    Chinese Drama - 2019, 40 episodes

    6.5

+This was a very healing drama. It had soothing scenes and imagery that made me feel very calm and relaxed.
+The cases featured in this drama are very common cases, but no less important.
+I liked how they showed that some cases are like a revolving door. As doctors, they'd do their job to help the patient get better and let them go. Some patients are still bound to come back trapped in that vicious cycle, while others do actually get better.
+The show depicts the social stigma of mental illness and the importance of family/friend support. The lack thereof harmed the patient even more.
+Shawn Dou and most of the cast with great acting
+Practically no dubbing (or at least it's hardly noticeable).
-There were times when the medical staff were completely unprofessional and it really bothered.
-The whole corrupt hospital administrative staff drama/war.
-Really long, slow paced...I wish they had focused more on patients with cases than "filler" drama.

I really loved it. For Chinese thriller drama standards, this was pretty up there. What I really liked about the series was that it wasn't episodic. The whole series revolved around one case (the snowman killer) and the various side stories that are intertwined with his case. With just 12 episodes, it did not drag at all and was the perfect length. The protagonist ("King of Hell") was a badass, but pretty much remained consistent throughout the drama. I really loved the Anti-hero though. He was just so lovable and nice and...in a way he could've been a protagonist. The other characters were interesting too and it was refreshing to see their character growth/fall.

Netflix told me this was a 57% match for me and it was right...so not my cup of tea. Alas, I needed something short to watch that fulfilled my 2019 Watch Challenge requirement so I watched it anyway. I love the cast, but this just has so many elements that I dislike.

  • I Don't Love You Yet

    Japanese Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

This drama was a really good remake. I dont think it surpassed the original though (but it came pretty close). The original couple's chemistry was on another level. They were so natural with each other. Here, I didn't see that until the end.

There were some things from this remake that I liked better than the original. One is that they probably cut out a lot of draggy stuff from the original (this one is shorter despite having more episodes). The other is the SFL. She is still annoying in this one, but much more tolerable. I wanted to strangle her in the original.

  • The World Between Us

    Taiwanese Drama - 2019, 10 episodes

This was so well written, I don't even know where to begin describing it. It just felt so real with how detailed it was, especially the first 9 episodes. It does such a good job of depicting events from multiple viewpoints and angles. There's no black and white...there's just a lot of grey area and "it's complicated" (just like real life). I sympathized with all sides and shed a lot of tears. I especially love how they covered mental illness. You'll just have to watch this to experience it yourself. Yes, you'll likely tear up, but it is so worth it.
