Hey, a serious question here. Am I the only one glad the creators didn't gave us another Character A: tall/agressive/over…
Agree with the other recs and wanted to throw in Gay Ok Bangkok (more mature and serious but really good and offers a more realistic LGBT representation). I’d also say Bangkok G Story (not nearly on the same level as 2gether and my other recommendation in terms of acting, production, etc., but hilariously stupid and gets away from some of those tropes you mentioned, so maybe worth checking out?)
I’ve read before that GMM doesn’t really reuse their BL lead actors for other BL series (not including sequels—different…
Ahhh I’ve never thought of it that way, as a comment to please fangirls (it would never even occur to me since I think actors should be paired with whomever suits the role lol but it makes sense now that you said it). OT—was there a lot of hate for He’s Coming To Me? At least on here the Singto/Ohm pairing seemed to be well received. Guess not so much elsewhere? All I remember is the hate for Friend Zone.
*sigh* I love this. It’s so good. YHJ is just *chef’s kiss* and JGJ is a total badass boss that I want to be best friends with. I love the supporting cast. I love the OST. And before I started watching this, I did not understand the cover art/poster at all. But now, having dived in, it makes perfect sense and I absolutely love that as well.
What's the problem? There's no need to talk down on people who are just voicing their opinion. That's what this…
Thanks dear, you as well :) Sorry to have upset you so much ~ I enjoy conversations where ideas are challenged and critical thinking is utilized; I like free speech and the Socratic method. If you actually read my comments, you’ll see that I never told anyone to be quiet or not voice their opinions. I was merely challenging comments that seemed to attack SaiZon fans on a more personal level or gave backhanded remarks dismissing their critiques, when these fans did nothing to warrant such comments. I get tired of people insisting that the only things worth posting about are praises for the show, so I’m going to call that mentality out and ask why. You can express your love of the show without bringing others down or criticizing them on a personal level, which is all I’ve been saying. Apologies if my words were mistaken as something hostile or too intense; alas, the absence of tone and inflection is the weakness of written communication.

So why don’t you tell the FighTor lovers to stop gushing about them “non stop” over and over again? Why is it only people you seem to disagree with that you want to silence? There’s no rule that says people can only leave comments if they’re raving about a show. And nobody’s forcing you to come into the comments and read them. Don’t wanna hear people’s critiques? Don’t read them. Just ignore them.
And why are you, like that now-deleted comment, even bringing up the coronavirus as if that justifies anything you’re saying? It’s completely irrelevant and quite honestly screams gaslighting.
You also keep saying how the “SaiZon fans” and other people “complaining” (to use your words) are young, teenage girls, as if that’s some insult and relevant. Who do you think the FighTor fans are? I agree that most viewers of BL are probably women and probably young (but not all and it may be changing as the genre gains more international fans), but you seem to argue that there’s this sharp, noticeable divide between the two factions, for lack of a better word—because I don’t think it’s as divisive as some seem to believe—as if the people “complaining” are in a different age and gender group than the others, when I’m sure it’s really not. (You also seem to assume that the young girls you see at fan meetups and the like are the same people who have accounts here and leave comments, when I’m sure the community here is much more diverse in terms of gender, age, education level, etc.)
BTW—lover of both couples equally, not a fan of the editing/screen time distribution, but mostly getting tired of people trying to shut down and dismiss others who express different viewpoints.
Before this turn into a verbal bloodbath can I please point out that rape is NOT kink. Getting spanked, is a kink.…
Oh yeah, I’ve been reading yaoi for over 10 years now so I’m unfortunately very aware of how often this rape culture is utilized in many East Asian countries as a tool for establishing romantic relationships (elsewhere around the world as well) :( I saw that article too and think it’s interesting to read and helps explain that recurring theme. There does seem to a small—*small*—shift away from that, where rape is treated appropriately, but it’s definitely slow coming and appears to be the minority.
Is this going to be a remake of season 1 and/or season 2? Seems a little soon to be doing that, no? Granted, it’s been done for other lakorns (My Bromance comes to mind) but as one of Thailand’s BL forefathers, Love Sick has that classic, nostalgic feel that makes me think you should wait at least 20 years before re-doing it lol
There are bls before this that have done this before though
Yeah, but that’s because BL is not the same as gay (or LGBT) romance. BLs are stories largely written by straight women for straight women. As such, they fantasize and fetishize gay men and include numerous tropes (which is often why you see evil girlfriends, gay-for-you, husband-wifey (which gahh I’m with you I can’t stand!), etc., and don’t even get me started on the rape culture that’s prominent in BL, which is a whole other topic entirely.) There’s a reason that they often seem similar and repeat the same themes over and over again. Some Thai BLs are good about stepping away from this these constructs and serve as positive guidance, inspiration, and visibility, but if you want realistic representation might I suggest Gay Ok Bangkok, Diary of Tootsies (which is based on real-life events), and What Did You Eat Yesterday (Jdorama), to name a few. I do agree about this helping set the standard going forward. :)

Thank you for clarifying and differentiating CNC from rape (and for putting a name on what was described). Not my kink, but interesting to read about and with how often rape is romanticized in BLs and elsewhere, it’s good to see you defining what these authors/screenwriters should perhaps be using in their works rather than actual rape, which is so violent and heinous and one of the worst invasions of someone’s person and well-being and not romantic at all.

Agree! A lot of BL actors will say they’ll only ever do another BL with the same partner, I guess because they’re most comfortable with that person and not comfortable with a gay role. I do know that Krist has said he doesn’t want to do anymore BL, so that’s probably why we aren’t seeing him in any. But Singto seems to be more open minded about those roles in general.
I do wish they’d break the pairings up as well (at least after the show’s promotion) bc all I think about is the disaster from Friend Zone where people were haaaaaating the character Sam who cheated on Singto’s character and shipping Singto’s character with the one who seduced Sam even though he was in the wrong too. I saw a lot of SingtoKrist shippers in comments here and on social media and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was anyone other than Singto playing the character, would the backlash have been as bad (that is, maybe people were even angrier because it was “Singto” that got hurt). I don’t know, I’m sure it’s much more complex, and I digress, but I do think it kind of goes to what you were saying about switching up the pairings and separating the actors from their roles.

I’m honestly not sure! Lazy Subber said it before when they talked about OffGun being cast in TOL and how it was kind of a big deal for that reason. If I had to guess, I’d say (1) probably marketing strategy like you said. People love shipping their OTP and maybe it’s hard to pair them with another male lead out of fear of upsetting the fans and if they pair them with a female lead, they can still market the BL fantasy; and (2) LS also said that a lot of Thai actors do BL because it has the potential to make them famous and gain a lot of fans to jumpstart their career, but they don’t want to do it long term, so maybe GMM recognizes this and employs a similar tactic since it works to their advantage too. GMM feels like it’s a well-oiled machine in the entertainment department, definitely knows what it’s doing. That said, the fact that they are starting to put some actors in multiple BL roles suggests maybe they’re changing their stance on that? Time will only tell on that one.

Also your English was perfect! :)
