This is a drama based on a BL novel by one of China's most prolific writers Priest (that is her actual name and…
Yes!! Whenever I see a BL-based drama coming from China now, I always expect the leads’ chemistry to be on the level of BY and ZYL; they really set the bar high lol
Agree 100%. And in terms of reconnecting and finding love again after reincarnation, I think they could have taken some hints from Guardian for how to do it right!
In that case only the ratings of people who dropped the series will count for the longest time. And of course…
Hmmm maybe they’re still working out the bugs? Or I could be wrong haha. I looked at the stats for WRU as well and those numbers don’t match either, which does seem to undermine my theory, so who knows?
It’s because MDL only counts your rating now once you’ve finished or dropped a show; it doesn’t count it if you still have it marked as currently watching.
Wow... Extremely shocking to see such a low rating for a show and we're only on episode 2... I think the director…

In terms of the rating: I think I figured it out. Maybe?
I remember MDL saying a few months ago that they changed the rating system and I believe now it only registers if you’ve “finished” the series in some way (marked it as “completed” or “dropped”). If you’ve rated it but are still “currently watching,” it doesn’t register your rating yet. I recall them saying this made the scoring more accurate, which makes sense in a way because you can’t really get a good handle on the show until you’ve finished it (you can change your rating of course, but that makes it fluctuate, which is what I think MDL wanted to prevent).
This adds up to the data. The rating says it’s from 6 users, and under stats, 2 people have dropped it and 4 have it marked as completed. So, it may not be the reviews that are affecting the scores, it’s whether someone’s rated it while still watching it or not.
ETA: Here’s an MDL that kind of talks about it (but not really): https://mydramalist.com/article/new-stats-ratings-broken-down-by-watch-status-011013959. I feel like it read more details about it in a newsletter or something, but as pointed out below, this doesn’t seem to be consistent among other dramas. Ughh-it’s a mess lol but if you click on or hover over the orange rating box, you’ll see the average rating broken down even further, and the “currently watching“ rating is higher than the one shown, for what it’s worth.
@Liz: This is the best BL I have ever seen in my life and I'm not exaggerating. The story may be nothing special,…
I was thinking along the same lines as you! I’m definitely getting SOTUS vibes in terms of interesting story, good writing, likable characters, and overwhelmingly positive reception.

"The story may be nothing special, but the execution is brilliant." <-- You hit the nail on the head right here! We can probably all think of a drama that had a unique/interesting premise but was ruined by poor execution. Writing is another aspect that sometimes gets overlooked I think! I love that here, the writing is tight and dynamic and everything moves the plot forward--absolutely no time is wasted.
Y'all...it's only been two episodes but I have not been this in love with/more excited to watch a BL series since...I…
Also, I get that enjoyment of a series is subjective, but I'm scratching my head at this having a lower rating than series like, e.g., Red Thread (which sacrifices plot in favor of silence and unnecessary repetition) and TharnType (because nothing says love like non-consensual touching and a homophobic, hostile boyfriend). Not to mention the writing's much better here (I think anyway, so far at least). Sorry, I said what I said. ^^'
I have to laugh, that review has a huge problem with the scene where Tine tries to drug Green, and then says the…
"then says the show isn't as good as 6 other shows, 4 of which include characters that have sex with people who are too drunk to consent" Thank you! Can we say it louder for the people in the back!!
Y'all...it's only been two episodes but I have not been this in love with/more excited to watch a BL series since...I don't know when! (LBC maybe? Guardian?) I don't know what it is, but GMM just has the perfect combination with this series: the story, the writing, the acting, the characters, the humor--I love all of it! And I just keep falling more and more in love with Bright <3
Also, I almost always prefer the secondary couple in BLs and lament that they never get enough screen time, but this is one where I kind of don't want the secondary couple to come because I love the main one so much haha
