I don't know if I'll be able to articulate properly but here goes:
Koichi and Micchan decided to "do it" since Koichi claims his time is running out. However, before doing it, Koichi has a breakdown and says he can no longer remain as a living corpse. Micchan feels guilty, as he knows it from the start but he doesn't want to let Koichi go. He reaffirmed Koichi that he'll be alright. They tell each other how they are both each other's "number one" and will forever be. When the morning comes, Koichi was no longer in Micchan's house. Micchan confides about this with his father, only to find out the same thing happened once his mother died. Micchan asks as to why his mother was always cold to him. His father says that his mother was only distant because she doesn't want Micchan to grow attached to her since she's already terminally ill. This is why Micchan explains in the previous episodes that when he saw his mom's ghost, she gave off a "gentle smile". Fast forward five years later, Micchan comes back to the campsite where him and Koichi had their first kiss. He still hasn't moved on from Koichi, and says "he'll always be my number one". He explains how Koichi was found in the accident site where he died, and no one remembers him being a walking corpse aside from him. We were then given Koichi's pov where he explains he had been in love with Micchan from the start the moment they locked eyes. We also learned that Koichi was adopted by his uncle as his biological mother abandoned him since he was a baby. This explains as to why his "mom" is relatively young and why there's a huge age gap between him and his "siblings". Koichi says that even though everyone treated him nicely, he still wanted to be someone's "number 1". And he got it from Micchan. His "number one" who he also considers him as his "number 1". We're then given a glimpse of when Koichi left Micchan's room, as he doesn't want to create a fuss if the authorities find his corpse in Micchan's room. He kisses Micchan one final time and says "I love you the most". The ending credits then roll, to an alternative scene where Koichi didn't have to die, and him and Micchan are enjoying themselves at the campsite, with bottles of beer in their hands.
it is sad ending series. what is the point of making this series? many people still dont want to give gay love…
Did we watch the same series? The main difference between this and most queer media that use deaths as its ending is they mostly do it for shock factor. Wherein in this case, the main character has been dead from the start.
This series was a 9 or 9.5 for me till ep 7 but the last ep just made me give it a 10. Even though I HATE sad…
THIS. The buildup to the finale was really slow but it was so worthwhile. It all ties together really nicely in the end. The ending, despite being bittersweet, was simply perfect.
I was caught off guard by the reveal about his mother but it was perfectly foreshadowed in a previous episode…
Somehow unrelated but since we're in the topic of their mothers, I also kept thinking to myself why Koichi's mother looked so young. I thought it was unintentional but now it makes sense for Koichi's mother to be in her early 30's since she isn't her biological mom. I like that nice touch.
I already suffered through years of queer media only having death at the end so I’m just not going to watch…
I'd say give this one a chance, you're going to be missing out on a beautifully made story. The main difference between this and most queer media that involves dying is that the main character has already been dead from the start. Can't say more because I don't wanna spoil but I'd highly recommend this series to anyone.
Less than 24 hours left before it airs on Gagaoolala with English subs. I'm still not ready to let this series (and Koichi) go, but all good things come to an end. 🥺
i just don't get mdl ratings...HOW IS THIS MF MASTERPIECE A 7.9?!?!it should be at least 8.5 or more
I sadly also don't understand how ratings on MDL work. The only thing we can do is rate it and fingers crossed other people like it as much as we do. 😓
