Title Castaway Diva Spoiler
One of the first point I noticed was that: so little time on the island, and no hard time on it. Then, the drama…
Well, it's a problem too. I was disapointed by famous writer Kim Eun Sook about Descendant of the sun, and much more Goblin.

It happens I see scenes and think it could be better. But more, I get the ideas about how I'd made that better, so rewrite the scene in my mind. Here, I should give up when it's a regular case. I clearly waste my time watching. What I like is the feeling to get something I wouldnt think about, or better than I imagine, or even having the certainty I couldn't make.

Also, it happens I like to see something badly made. I watched twice Hospital Playlist because I needed to take note of all the problems it have. So I could check I don't make the same mistakes in my writing (and indeed, I had scenes at risk to correct).

However, the main reasons why I keep or give up are simples. Hooked, strong emotions, not boring. When I get that, I can forgive a lot of flaws.

... they intentionally left out his thoughts/inner monologues after finally meeting Mokha and it'll prolly be…
Oh yeah, you touch a strong point here. And we could say the same about the brother. In front of the camera, more communicative.

Also, a detail jump to my mind:

At the end of the movie "Cast Away", the main character return to his previous life. And as he looks around, see how everything is superficial, fake relationships and empty motivations in people. He becomes alone, castaway in his own life.

But Mok Ha is a kind of reversal of that. After being alone on the island, the life she finds after is more optimistic, looking for building sincere relationships, meet people. And I could say, meet and touch the maximum number of people by singing for them.

Title Castaway Diva Spoiler
One of the first point I noticed was that: so little time on the island, and no hard time on it. Then, the drama…
It's a more general subject, but since time I read comments, and also see how I react myself: there is often a need for people to get what they want. It can even lead to absurd conclusions. Ex: someone want an healty love relationship, without love triangle, without breakup, without obstacles for lovers, etc... without realizing that if they watched this show, their first reaction would probably be "it's boring".

After some introspection, as years pass, I found I was often frustrated when I want a drama be something. I also found the drama I prefered were also the ones that surprised me while I was not expecting something.

Anyway, I still find other reasons to be frustrated. Often by something I would like not to be in the drama. Not about plot or story but more the tone. Obviously, easy slapstick comedy is a no. Or too many slow boring contemplatives scenes, or other stuff like that.

You'll find strange to know, but I had a past of kind-of fanatic about rigor and logic of the plot, nitpicking about plot-holes or many stuff like that. Until I gave up on that, over time. Thinking it's not the most important. Now I stick more on how the drama is enjoyable scene per scene, what captivate intention each instant, and the most important: how much emotion it makes me feel.

So, I find no reason to be frustrated by this drama. First I trust the writer (I watched all her dramas, call me a fan), and I'm looking why and how she does this in a way or another. I simply enjoy the quality of her writing and ability to trigger sincere emotions. What's make: I watch each episode like I were eating a gastronomic meal. :-)

It's supposed to be live. I had a doubt, but at the start, we see she has an earpiece for the musical feedback.…
It's live. It's said in the description. "outdoor recording".
Then, there is a lot of post-production I guess, with such a sound.

My issue with this show is how they're dealing with what FL went through on the island so superficially. Being…
One of the first point I noticed was that: so little time on the island, and no hard time on it. Then, the drama was just starting, and I could see it's slowly speaking about that, with flashback or what tell Wok Ha about her life on the island. With an important moment when she commits suicide, but save herself. Then needing to eat with someone, a seagull. And choose to live, 5 minutes later, 5 minutes, etc.

It's obvious the writer couldn't reuse the same than the movie "Cast Away". And she watched that movie, as there is a reference to it in the drama.
"Cast Away" tell the story of a man with a happy life, and suffering a lot from isolation. Finding also his whole life was fake about many points.

But Castaway Diva has another starting point. We can see the writer/director choose to show the island like a paradise in episode 1. Strange, isn't it? It's because Mok Ha escapes a situation worst than being cast away on an island. And after her father die, she can slowly heals her soul on this island.

I've read a book about survival situations, and I remember vaguely that some people survive while some others not. Many parameters. Of course keep your cool, be calm. But also the psychological strength. And the ability to focus on one thing after the other.

I expect to see other moments of the island in the following episodes, or stories Mok Ha tells. The character have a strong mental ability. She was like that before the island, chasing her dream and positive, even when she endures hard suffering. For sure, the writer didn't go in a drama about survival.

Episode 6I thought this was a great episode. It really packed a punch!By the time we got to the honeymooning on…
The kiss scenes where damn hot.
Not only the main couple but the one of Yu Ra and Dolphin face too. Before, we could notice another plot-device: when they get a fight with random guys in the night club.

Episode 5Silly psychiatrist – being unprofessional and giving away game to FL about ML’s mental health. I…
Silly psychiatrist: Yes, an apparent plot device. Not really embarrassing, in fact quite funny.

I use an implausible plot device like that in a scene. This was a correction after the first draft. I needed to add scenes because I'd changed the outline of later episodes. As I had no logical connection with the rest of the plot, I used this. But adding several connections in the scene to compensate.

Dolphin face: ahaha, exactly that. I thought the actor was a bit bland, but in this scene he's great. A beautiful symphony of distorted hateful expressions.

Emotions and psychology are respected.
I'm sure you'd like other makjang dramas from the low-budget slot. It's not a gift I'm giving by recommending a 100-episode drama (for the time), but:
The Promise. Available for free on youtube:

From a psychological angle, the events surrounding the main couple in the first half are strong. Lee Yo Ri as the lead actress, a style specialist. And Park Ha Na, one of my darling who mainly does this type of drama. Here in the role of antagonist. With a mother very similar to the one in Perfect Mariage Revenge. I even wondered if it wasn't the same actress.

this is the writer formula. it's the same for the kdrama startup, 2 male leads hiding secrets from female lead…
Watch her other dramas and find out it's not her formula.

She doesn't even have a singer experience but does it well.

Before to watch, make sure you have a lot of spicy ramen at home, or you won't survive frustration.
Take kimchi and soju with that, and it's perfect.

No, it was right about the title. It's faithfull to Alexandre Dumas novel. And in the novel, characters use swords too, not musket. I know it's a contradiction, but HEY, it's like that!

A drama from my favorite screenwriter, and I wasn't expecting her to be so good at just historical drama (without fantasy high concept). Sadly, the drama was planned for 3 seasons, but only the first one was made. So, the writer had to put a quick conclusion in the last episode. Disapointing episode, in particular the final scene. It's even like I could feel the writer anger about the drama being canceled.
Else, watch it for what it gives before, it's a smash!
