No that was not in the book. Both leads never got misunderstandings between them. FL got mad with male lead over their kids but never had big issues with trust throughout the story.

In the book she was the worst schemer. She was good on face but she schemed for years to get her son to be named heir....which was not possible at all. Male lead had another concubine who died during childbirth and her child who died soon afterwards, would have been firstborn son of XLG if he had lived. Qin was responsible for that. She also tried to hurt brother zhun later on.

Concubine Qin gets kicked out and is left to live alone on a farm as punishment. Concubine Qiao gets sent to the temple as punishment. She becomes quiet after that. Concubine Wen gets on female leads good side pretty fast as she realizes her daughters future marriage and happiness depends on female lead choosing a good husband for her daughter. So they end up having a good relationship by the end.

Drama has changed about 90% of the stuff from the book. Only the main leads, their names and backgrounds are similar, I think. So the book and the drama will be 2 different stories.
The author of the book has disassociated herself and her book from this drama production.

Book did not have all the nonsensical stuff you are about to see in this drama. Going to prison for adultery, concubines framing main wife, mistrust between main leads, misunderstandings between main leads, all this crap is thanks to the screen writer who is also the person who changed princess weiyoung so much that it was hardly recognizable as adapted from its source.

It's same concept like the american series filming just a pilot episode and with that they approach studios and networks to get funding to film the actual series.
Thai series do same thing but with a concept trailer. Sometimes the director or the writers use their own money to shoot the trailer and then wait to see the audience response. Bigger the interest in the trailer they get, bigger the chances of it getting the funding.

I am hoping its BanHua's dream too. But my problem is there was no need for this 4th broken engagement plot.
Rong Xia knows how much those 3 broken relationships have scarred BanHua (atleast book RX knew) and now he himself is giving her another scar.
Only thing that will save this plot is that it ends up being all fake drama created by the leads to take out the Shi family and bring the second prince out in the open.

Just read an article saying this will be airing soon. The chinese article talked about The blessed girl and Jin Xin Si Yu and said they are planning to air these drama in Q1. Blessed girl started airing last week so its most likely this will air soon too.

Totally agree with you. Instead of making it interesting they messed it up. They could have made the Ban family more interesting like showing us how NOT stupid they are by keeping themselves in the good graces of the Emperor. That they know the great General Ban was killed by last emperor and understand that the current emperor is their friend only as long as they stay stupid. So they all played along. They didn't show us that every single soldier from the General Ban's army is secretly employed by the Ban family and are completely loyal to the Bans to the extent that every servant in their house is an ex soldier from General Ban's army... protecting the Ban family 24/7. They could have made the Ban family so much more interesting just by showing us these little details.
Have you seen The general's lady? That was another ruined female character that made me lose interest in watching that drama. Shen Jin was such a strong lead in the novel and the drama gave us stupid fights and joining the army nonsense.

In order to give that Shi girl more screen time...they messed up the main leads characters. Don't the screen writers know that you can make your villians smart without making your main leads weak.
They turned a beautiful love story to utter nonsense. I pray to God they never touch this authors most popular works. I don't want to see them massacred like this.

Minglan was not bad. Production was pretty good. And they didn't change too much. The characters except for QiHeng(poor guy got destroyed coz of ZhuYiLong's popularity) all remained pretty much same as the novel. They kept Minglan smart throughout and did not turn her into a mess. If I compare how they destroyed the female leads of Princess Weiyoung, General's lady and A girl like me(still ok, though), I'd say Minglan did good.
The only reason I'm keeping my hopes low for this drama is the screenwriter....who also did Princess Weiyoung. That drama was my most anticipated drama after I read the book but the moment I read the synopsis, I lost all interest.

Before Story of Minglan came out, I'd have agreed that this kind of book is hard to make just looking at the huge cast of characters. But Minglan did fine without making it confusing or messing it up. Hopefully they hired good screenwriters.
