Not casting any aspersions on Kim Go Eun at all. Just offering an alternative. Kim Ga Eun has been playing comedy roles almost exclusively of late.

Finally watched ep 5 today and now totally relate to your point of view! What I don’t understand though, is why Kang San readily answers her questions! If it were me, the more she pushed, the more stubborn I'd get, and refuse to answer ("Who are you to ask me this?!? Get the eff outta my house!"), but he just rolls it out like it's nothing. It's like he has no sense of self-preservation! His innocence is alarming!

But, I would still argue the styling of Bo Ah (white dress, cleansing before casting spells etc.) And the repeated admonitions that she has NEVER dated, are firmly implying that she is virginal/innocent/pure... That and the 'damsel in distress needing to be rescued', scenes. I think the subtitles might be, albeit accidentally, pretty accuate.

Regarding the secondary romance between the workplace couple: Gong Seo-Gu asked for Ma Eun Young's consent, before hugging her. THIS is a freaking miracle for K-dramaland! But her immediate response is to mock him for essentially being unmanly. This is WRONG! The sexiest thing a lover can do is show respect and care for you.

This was such a golden opportunity to show the audience how consent is done, in a really natural way. But they burned it. I actually yelled at the TV, it made me so furious!

If I'm honest I'm finding the entire show is slightly off when it comes to gender stereotypes. The repeatedly implied 'virginal' and 'pure' is just really irksome. The ML and FL do not come across as equal in the contemporary time setting. Hong Jo is endlessly, the virginal damsel in distress, in need of saving by the heroic ML 🤮. The ancient timeline shows glimmers of Aeng Cho as being stronger, more knowlegeable and less oppressed, than her modern counterpart, so I am holding on in hope that they somehow meld into one strong, assertive, contemporary FL

I have just caught up on ep 9 and 10. I am admittedly enjoying this. BoAh and Rowoon are finally starting to show the chemistry I always believed they were capable of. And they're just so beautiful I can't look away.
But I have a massive gripe that I have to get off my chest.

I would watch the heck out of an action/thriller drama, if this man were in it...and basically anything else.

I find the cutesy, childish behaviour frustrating too, but I think it's pretty typical SK 'aegyo', so not really a trope per se.

I think it's also meant to be 'aegyo'.
