It seems that I watch this "classic" every 1 to 1.5 years. It is sooo good. Every part of the storyline is excellent and I love the actors. The little boy is the cutest thing in the world and the charisma of the other actors really works out well. Great choice of actors! All I can say at this point is -- if you haven't seen this drama yet, you really shouldn't miss it. I gave it a 9.5 instead of 10 because even though the music is okay, sometimes it's a bit loud and becomes annoying.
I like this drama but all the problems would be easily solved if Mu Cheng had a backbone and spoke up
It's a sign of abuse and fear. She also wanted to protect those she loved, although there were times where she didn't do too badly as far as speaking her mind.
This was a very well-directed, dark and ironic movie. I do not seek out these types of "dramas" although it was well put together. It was very violent, depressing, sadistic and gory. Not a happy ending although perhaps meaningful--or at least with a message. Definitely not a movie for children. I gave it a 7.8 out of 10 rating. I would not re-watch it.
I just wanted to say, regarding the new layout of MyDramaList, that I am not feeling comfortable at all with the new arrangement. There seems to be a lot more advertising and I have lost all of my personal notes that I have been keeping for years on each drama. I am really disappointed to lose the capability to create my own private notes for myself ) : in addition to the valuable (to me) information that I had carefully noted. The least MDL could do is warn us and allow us some way of downloading it first before getting rid of it. Also, I prefer the 10 star rating for better accuracy vs. the 5 star--actually it won't even let me click on the stars, it just times out.
I have to agree with a lot of comments here that this drama really is under-rated. I give it at least an 8.0 out of 10. I was wondering how this drama would hold my interest for 20 episodes but it was never an issue. The story and actors were good. I liked the second couple which made the story even more interesting. Although I wouldn't normally watch something having to do with a beauty pageant, I would say this drama is worth watching with a good ending. Try it--you'll know within a few episodes.
Regarding the list above, the only dramas I did not see were the "Wild Chives..." and "D-Day." The drama "Iris" was okay until the end and now I absolutely hate it (sorry), and I also didn't like "Playful Kiss" (although one of the main actors was my favorite in "Boys Over Flowers." "Playful Kiss was just too chauvinistic for me--and the little brother was ridiculous! But anyway, there are many, many other good ones (I should make a list--smile)! For starters, look for "Empress Ki," --an excellent, adventurous historical drama. Enjoy!
I don't know about a "huge" selection of Asian dramas on Netflix (I check periodically), but I did see my first Kdrama on Netflix, "Faith--The Great Doctor." I watched it over and over for about a month. I've been seriously hooked ever since. That was more than four years ago. Since then, I have been to KCON LA and I just LOVE Asian dramas. I can't get enough of them, especially historical dramas. Somehow they are so much more intriguing and interesting than other dramas I have been able to find on Netflix. After the first couple of Kdramas ("Boys Over Flowers"--S.Korea version--was the second big hit for me), I searched the internet to find out everything I could and subsequently subscribed to Dramafever.com and Viki.com and dropped Netflix because I no longer watched it. I have found a few other streaming websites, but they don't seem to be legit since they keep changing all the time, i.e. kissasian (offensive advertising but HD quality once you got into the drama--now shut down), dramacool, dramanice, etc. I guess it would be nice if Netflix got a lot more of the current (and past) Asian dramas. I might even re-subscribe to Netflix and watch them all there as long as they could maintain good quality and availability.
I just finished King Geunchogo and it was definitely worth watching. This was a very good historical drama. The beginning was good, but I thought that the last half was the best. Most of the actors were excellent although a few could have been a bit better. Even though it is long, it is a great story and the ending was unique and worthwhile. I rated it 8.5 out of 10.
I will mention one thing that drove me crazy while watching this on Dramafever--someone needs to learn how to use contractions in English! It was very annoying to have every word possible made into a contraction. Just because you can create a contraction, doesn't mean you should. There were many places in the translation that the contractions were inappropriate and made the reading of subtitles very slow and disjointed.
I'm a little concerned about watching this since so any people are complaining about the horrible shouting--although it did get fairly good ratings. ??
Is it better to watch King Geun Cho Go?
This is on Dramafever.com right now. I'm really craving a new historical drama so I hope I won't be too disappointed. I'm just going to give it a try. I'll let you know what I think. Thanks!
Good and interesting drama. Kept you thinking. I liked the actors--Good chemistry. Maybe a little too melancholy with a few bright moments here and there. I think it needs less "sad" music and more upbeat scenes overall. (The music in a drama makes such a significant impact when "telling" the story. Somehow the music choices seemed lacking to me.) I still rated it 8 out of 10.
After some of the comments here, I surprisingly really liked this movie. The actors were good and adorable. I liked the actors a lot ((Gong Yoo) from "Coffee Prince," (Im Su Jung) from "I'm Sorry, I love You" and "Chicago Typewriter" (all favorite dramas--seriously!)
It was a good story with a few life messages. The ending was good and I would watch it again. My only complaint is that the picture quality on Viki.com was not very clear. I gave it a rating of 7.8 out of 10. You should watch it (:
Definitely worth watching! Such a good and cute drama-- just like real life with lots of ups and downs and worth it. Make sure you keep watching past the advertising at the end. This drama has one of the best endings I have seen. Really good actors, acting and good storyline. Congratulations to all involved. Great job -- fighting!
This was a good drama. Good chemistry between the male and female leads. It was a bit confusing in places, but good until the end. I love Yoon Shi Yoon and the main actress was perfect. I thought they could have done a little better job with the grandfather having alzheimers. It seemed just a bit off and not all that interesting--although I think it could be. I love watching sweet, endearing, sassy elderly actors in dramas. Reminds me of my grandparents. (Miss Granny is one of the best dramas I have ever watched! You should go see it right now if you haven't already!) I rated this an 8.2 because of the actors. Good ending.
I love this drama sooo much. I think about it all the time. I recommend it to all my friends and love watching it over with them. The story is good and the actors are so cute!!
Excellent movie. Amazing actors (two of my favorites from "To the Beautiful You" and "You Who Came from the Stars." Top ratings (9.5 out of 10)--just added to my "favorite movies " list. Worth watching every minute.
I'm going to be honest by the end of the drama I resented Yeok a little bit. Am I the only one? And just…
I didn't resent Yeok--I resented the storywriter/director for not doing more at the end with a beautiful story. I think if you're going to tell a story of sacrifice, at least make it obviously outstanding at the end.
Also, I prefer the 10 star rating for better accuracy vs. the 5 star--actually it won't even let me click on the stars, it just times out.

Do you mean "Moon Lovers" by any chance? I thought that drama was a bit slow.
