I'm on ep 28 and im so so so freaking confused and i just need like... the whole PLOT spoiled and eli5'd for me…
- Empress Dowager and Marquis worked together before. But, they are already gradually breaking apart due to misaligned interests.
- Consort Dowager Qin learned that Empress Dowager was treating her like a pawn since years ago. She was hurt, and also wanted to distance herself from this mess, hence gave the edict to Ye Li.
- Li Feibai (Ye Li's senior bro) learned about Lishan Academy, but refrained from confronting about it to Ye Li because he also noticed she's not mentally well.
- Empress Dowager wants the power herself. Remember she originally intended to ascend the throne herself. Emperor doesn't like that.
- Sui Zuidie was saved by Han Mingyue. Both are underlings of Mo Jingli.
- Mo Jingli ran away because his plan for treason was exposed. So, he ran away to plan his next moves.
Is this drama interesting? I have watched first few episodes but it was more like a light watch and not a detailed…

So, this is more of a detailed watch kind of drama because the drama regularly recalls past conversations and hints, and viewers have to connect the dots constantly.

Mo Xiuyao and Mo Jingli were in the same situation. Benevolance in the sense of 'hey, we even let the traitors and offsprings of the previous Emperor live' to show the court and public that they are not tyranical.
So, both of them ended up as titled Princes without any sort of authority. That's how I conjectured so far.
About the marriage swap - they are very wary of both Mo Jingli and Ye Li (Lishan Academy). For all they know, Lishan Academy is pretty much alive. So, there's no way they would hand over this connection and massive network to Mo Jingli just like that.

The dialogue is something like "Assassinating a prince inside the palace, have you all lost your mind?". Subtitle is just 'Prince' so listen to the dialogue instead.

Drama is miles better in characters and plot. Novel is more straight forward but much larger in scale, and both leads are significantly more OP.
I like both because they offer different flavours.
