They made quite a few changes, but both versions can stand on their own. The drama version has taken a lot of inspiration from small details in the novel to preserve the overall character and it is definitely a very good adaptation. ML's poison tongue is not quite as poisonous as in the novel.
Guyss should I give this one a try? I was in the middle of watching Starry Love but somewhere in the middle I…
It's different from TSL, no pink overload, no glitter, just nice costumes in good colours. The acting is decent, there are no really annoying characters and there is a lot of subtle comedy that often plays on the usual stereotypes.
For me it's the opposite! I don't want this to finish because a) I'm enjoying it very much (re-watching some older…
Also, I'm quite sure there will be a happy ending, because the novel has it. We just cannot be sure how good it will be as the drama version has barely covered half of the novel so far, so there may be a bit of a rush towards the end. I hope not because so far the adaptation (with all its changes) has been quite good. At least, since this is a historical, not a xianxia, they cannot give us a crappy ending that shows they both go living in a sword, or a painting or a cat collar.
I understand how you feel about the Rise of Phoenixes. That one had me shell-shocked for a while...
I have never wanted a drama to finish airing so much so I can start watching it 🤣My fear is if I start it now,…
For me it's the opposite! I don't want this to finish because a) I'm enjoying it very much (re-watching some older episodes on days without new episodes), and b) I've realised that after this there will probably be no further drama with Jeremy Tsui for the rest of the year 😱😱😱
Can y’all let me know where’s the supposed comedy in this? I’m on ep 4 & it’s dragging. Will it get better?…
The humour lies mainly in the subtle little details and the development of the characters. The pretend coughing is funny because it's so predictable and HL's "acting sick" is so bad. The more you pay attention to the little details, the funnier it gets. If you're expecting slapstick toilet humour (as in My Uncanny Destiny) you may be disappointed.
Why was episode 19 aired today? Did they changed the airing dates?
The seem to have created an exception from the usual schedule only for today, maybe just to give us that kiss before the next airing pause... You can see the airing calendar in the photos section of this page.
THE CONFESSION AND KISS 🥰🥰cursing the director for that far shot though
Yeah, I don't know what's going on with the censorship rules regarding kisses. In some dramas they are as hot as can be and in others we only get blurred shots or everything is cut out completely (and only seen in BTS footage or other leaks).
Quick question how old is the crown prince supposed to be? it has been bothering me alot I remember them mentioning…
I think she mentions in one of the first episodes that she was 18 years old. The Crown Prince should be a good deal older than her because in the novel he considers her a little sister, rather than a love-interest, at first. I don't think that they mention in the drama how old he's supposed to be, but based on timeline, etc. I would guess late twenties. In the novel the Crown Prince was only a few months younger than the "eldest brother" and his 2nd brother. In the drama version they changed the order and number of what was originally five princes (with CP being the 3rd Prince and the weird painter being the 5th Prince).
Hahaha, I still remember when this started and everyone kept saying that 24 episodes is the perfect length... I wonder how many of them are eating their words now 🤣 It seems quite unfair, though. The dreary Journey of ChongZi had 40 painfully repetitive episodes whereas this delightful gem only has 24...
When HL's mother asks her how she would feel about the CP being with another woman and she crushes the walnut 🤣🤣🤣 it's such a beautiful take on a typical macho stereotype!!
What’s the Aunt Princess Le Yang’s history/problem with LL’s mom? It sounds like she’s jealous of General…
When Hua Liuli asked her mother about it she couldn't remember anything that she may have done to upset LeYang (but she has a tendency to forget about unimportant people). The only other thing that I've seen mentioned is that General Wei was the no. 1 beauty in their youth, so maybe it's just plain old jealousy... I'm still reading... so there might be something else that will only come up later...
Our Yuansu is so freaking cute 🤧Ahhhh I love seeing LL's jealousyCP's relationship with the emperor is so refreshing…
Yes, this has to be one of the best emperors I've seen in a historical. It's such a refreshing change from the usual stereotypes of either dumb/ignorant or eaten up by ambition.
I rofl so hard watching ep 17 🤣🤣🤣Yuansu: wait, who were you called big sister?Xie Yao: the two ladies…
🤣🤣🤣 The dialogues in the drama are really quite creative! The "I'm a beast" is actually a joke from the novel but they have changed it slightly: In the beginning, the Crown Prince honestly only regarded Hua Liuli as a little sister (according to the novel she was only 15 years old...) and when the Emperor asks him about his feelings for her, he answers "I only regard her as a little sister, I'm not an animal!" in his usual nonchalant manner. Later on he gets to eat his words... 😂
