It's actually quite good... I've read the novel. I'm just not sure if they will do it justice with the way they usually re-write stuff to add love triangles and other cliches, or sweeten up everything.
i thought its supposed to be airing every day? why is it showing ep 23 will be out on 27th?
They changed the schedule. Apparently this happens quite often that once a drama is half-way through (and getting interesting) the reduce the number of episodes that are aired per week...
I've also watched some clips from Novoland 2 and his character, Xue Jing Kong is absolutely hilarious. He's such…
Yes, he seems to have a "must-take-his-shirt-off" clause in all of his contracts š š š I was already wondering in a post further down what would be the pretext this time... so far we've had injury, martial arts practice, bathing in some of his other dramas. Oh, it's getting hot in here... š„š„š„
I don't understand where he suddenly got the sword from. Is this the one that he threw away or a new one? Also,…
Right, thanks! I remember now... I guess I should use the lack of new episodes over the weekend to re-watch some older episodes to make sure I don't miss any details... There seem to be so many little things that could become important later on.
Just finished watching episode 20... So YF saved the collective ass of the immortals once again, they really are…
I don't understand where he suddenly got the sword from. Is this the one that he threw away or a new one? Also, make-up here truly amateurish. In the underwater scene, where YF faints his face is all white, while his neck is still the usual colour š¤¦āāļø

Why did you find Xue JingKong hilarious? I cannot remember him being this funny (maybe my mind went blank because he kept taking all these baths... š¤). If you want to see JT in a funny role I can recommend Be My Princess. Some scenes are absolutely delirious ššš
I think Lou Ying Fan is very cool when he casts his spells. Iām also impressed with his wardrobe, very elegant!…
Being different in each role is the hallmark of a true actor. I've only seen JT in roles were there was a lot more (inter-)action, so the stoic role here is quite a surprise and takes some getting used to. Even in Novoland2 he was a lot "livelier".
This drama plays a lot with subtleties and symbolism, which a lot of people miss because they focus on the plot…
Hmh, the stage is yet another level... most of my favourite actors started this way. I've once see Patrick Steward (yes, Captain Picard!) live on stage in a one-man version of "A Christmas Carol" with him playing all the roles. It was absolutely amazing! I don't know if there is much stage acting in China... someone with knowledge, please enlighten me.
Yes, I tried to read the translated online novel but I found it very difficult to read.
Same here, I just gave up after a few chapters because with the mixed up personal pronouns it becomes impossible to understand who does/says what. Plus the permanent switch between present and past tense drives me up the wall.
I know Chinese is difficult to translate but that is where the job of a translator becomes important and some people do absolutely amazing translations! Just pushing a text through a machine without even proof-reading the result, however, is just doing a lousy job.
is this good ? idk if i should start this or song of the moon first
It depends on what your expectations are. This one is slow to develop and plays a lot on subtleties (especially in the first few episodes). The ML in this and in Song of the Moon couldn't be more different. One is the silent/stoic type (there may be an abyss underneath the veneer, though) the other one is a chatterbox. The storyline in Song of the Moon was very cliched, including the obsessive stalker SFL, whereas this one is trying to break the mold by showing grey characters and people transgressing what some regard as unbreakable moral code in xianxia/wuxia to explore the depths of human emotions/passions.
Omg those immortal bastards is so freaking annoying. I get so annoyed seeing them shipping Yunji and Yin Fan together....…
Yeah, Yunji is annoying... it seems to lie in the family! I intensely dislike this whole Zhuo bunch, especially that deranged stalker Zhuo Hao! Cudos to the actors for making me dislike their drama characters so much!
Is it just me or it is getting harder to keep watching this drama!
I actually feel it is getting better with every episode! The initial episodes were a bit tough because the FL was too much of a cliche and there wasn't much happening. There is a lot of symbolism and subtleties in the scenes between ML/FL which are easy to miss. Also, there's a lot of good acting from the side characters, some of them are very good at making us hate them!
I can't help but notice when they ate the stick candy, Luo Yin Fan only bit half of the candy and Wen Zi ate the…
This drama plays a lot with subtleties and symbolism, which a lot of people miss because they focus on the plot (and in my case on the subtitles). I'll probably have to watch this all again once it is finished just to catch all these details. JT seems to have done too good a job on acting with subtlety which makes quite a few people think the ML is boring. Thank you for pointing out these small details that would otherwise be overlooked!
Yh when watching these things you shouldn't impose modern values of morality on them because the world of immortals…
It's funny how on one side people complain that Xianxia "is always the same kind of story" and as soon as one dares to break the mold everyone screams "psycho" for breaking an imaginary taboo. The romance really only starts in the second arc which made a bunch of people complain about the "missing chemistry". They are probably the same people who would have screamed "pervert" if there had been any chemistry! So the romantic relationship in the second arc is that of consenting adults. Is anyone really so naive to think that this could never happen in real live??
Oh no!!! I just started watching this, so I'll check out your comments! š What else are you watching?
Don't be put off too much by some of the comments. The story is slow to develop, but it will get more gripping as it proceeds and the FL will drop the baby-act in her 2nd life. There is no chemistry between the leads in the 1st arc because the isn't MEANT to be any. Some people just don't have the patience to watch the drama slowly unfold, while others will complain about anything (FL too childish, too bland, too whatever). There are also quite a few people who really like it because it is different from the usual story template.
I love your posts Amy. Do you feel like this is very different than most fantasy shows? I'm getting a lot of western…
Yes, people's expectation greatly influence how they perceive a drama. Sadly, sometimes the promotion for a drama creates false expectations and then people are disappointed. For instance Unchained Love was promoted as a dark palace drama and then ended up being a trivial comedy (probably the producers got scared by their own courage as the novel was certainly not a comedy). Wulin Heros that go pushed out to surve on the wave of popularity gained by The Blood of Youth only for people to discover that this was a romance, not a wuxia.
I agree with your analysis of the different arc of the drama. Considering that nowadays culture (and the mentality of most people) seems to have a permanent need for instant gratification if would have been a better choice to tell the first arc of story as a flashback and have a bit more "action" before that. But then, I'm sure some other people would be complaining that the don't understand what's going on in the first episode šš
@ š§ : take the hint!
