Yep, the "new" FL is much less annoying, with a normal voice and (so far) without the stupid pouting.

While everyone (including JT) seems to scream "oh, how could he do this?" I kind of understand why the ML had to kill Chong Zi.
Saving the world may seem the most obvious reason, but I think it is only part of it. Having seen how much his friend Chu Bufu suffered after becoming a demon he probably didn't want his disciple suffer the same fate after she fell under the influence of the sword. Otherwise, why would she thank him for killing her?

Just finished watching episodes 13 and 14 - that was quite intense...

I think when actors don't admit they have a girlfriend it's not just that they don't want to upset certain fan-girls (I guess the majority of us couldn't care less...) but it is also to protect the woman from the extra scrutiny and harassment that inevitable follows such a revelation. It is very sad that women would do this to other women.

I keep telling myself there must have been something that he saw in this role... so still hoping for a chance for him to show us some decent acting...

I think it is quite obvious that YF disagrees with (and is even annoyed by) those other immortals. In some of their interactions he is rather rude to them, so it shows that he has zero respect for them and is only bound by his responsibility for the realm.
These old guys all rely on him to protect them and at the same time they want to command him around - no sane person would accept such a treatment.

Slow to develop... but promising.

Hang in there, I think it will get better over the next few episodes.
Given that they are teacher-student it's hard to show obvious chemistry without it being awkward. There are a few good scenes between them in episode 13.
Some of the weird plot turns are due to the changes that the scriptwriters made (someone explained this in detail in a post further down).
Given the role so far the ML didn't get many opportunities for real acting. All he had to do is look stern/indifferent and wave his hands in the air to cast spells, there are a lot of subtleties in his manners, but they are hard to notice when focussing on the plot. I trust the will be more opportunities for him in the coming episodes, otherwise it wouldn't be JT.

Nice songs, personally I prefer the 2nd one, but the ending theme still remains my favourite.

Whoever put the first one up on Youtube obviously didn't watch the drama, otherwise s/he would have noticed that the photo shows the wrong person... Poor Chong Zi, not even the people on Youtube do her justice... 😂

Zhuo Hao's theme is probably the best about this character... I REALLY REALLY don't like him and can feel zero sympathy for his childish infatuation.

To me he looked almost scared of what she might say... Those were some of their best scenes so far.

I guess they heard people complaining that it was slow going...

Just search for Chong Zi on the Novel Updates website, but be warned the translation is truly abysmal. The "translator" doesn't seem to know the difference between "he" and "she" and mixes in strange words that are neither Chinese nor English.

Totally agree. I really don't understand why script-writers use novels as source material and then change everything. If they think their ideas are so much better, why not write their own original script?
This is particularly annoying when the novel manages to avoid some of the worst cliches of the genre (such as love-triangles with obsessive SFLs, moronic FLs, etc.) and then the script-writers have to add them again in the drama version

I'm saving ep. 14 for tomorrow... so at least I can (hopefully) console myself with ep. 15 straight after...
I'm kind of looking forward to the heartbroken Yin Fan - it's about time the ML gets to show us some quality acting.

Yeah, neither did I, but somehow the script-writers of Chinese dramas seem to think this is how young women behave, even if the FL was half-way decent in the novel, they will still turn her into a brainless moron. So we shouldn't blame the actress, but the script-writers/directors!

" Wuxin" is a character in The Blood of Youth, who is supposed to be 17 years old but is played by Liu Xue Yi who has nearly twice this age. He did a good job in the role but nobody would believe the 17 years even for a second. What I'm trying to say with this is that many (female) viewers seem to be overly critical of the FLs, but are a lot more lenient when it comes to the male roles.

I understand what you mean... I not a fan of the "cult of young", as I prefer decent acting skills. This role, however, needed a young actress that could be believable as an immature teenager. Having just watched The Blood of Youth, no acting skills in the world could make me believe that Wuxin was a 17-year-old (yet strangly, barely anybody complained).
If they had done the same for the FL role in this drama the internet would probably explode...

I would add to this that audiences seem to be very critical towards FLs being "just a pretty face" whereas this seems to be perfectly acceptable for an ML. No matter how shitty the acting, some fan-girls will still rave on about the stellar performance (that never happened).

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the ML of this drama, but a few others that I've seen recently.

Maybe give the girl some time to show what she can do with the multiple aspects of this role...
