Rahab75 is spot on, but if you didn’t get from the episode, I can explain a bit from the novel. Krit doesn’t…
I don't know if it will make sense still because it's definitely a cultural difference, but filial piety is deeply ingrained. You grow up learning that your parents sacrifice so much for you and that you have a responsibility to them for giving you life. In Asia, basically everyone thinks this way too, so there's pressure from both your family and societal expectations to honor your parents which becomes kind of synonymous with obedience. The group comes before the individual, so you have a responsibility to your family before yourself. You should think about how all of your decisions affect the people in your life and be considerate towards them. In the west, you may hear it at home, but if you go out, you'll experience different worldviews so I think there's less pressure to conform to that kind of standard. Western cultures also tend to prioritize individual over the group as well. It's like the difference between "it's my life" versus "it's the life that was given to me and supported by those around me"
Many Asians also live in multi-generations household, so you don't always grow up and become free of your parents. For this reason, who you marry and how they get along with your family becomes very important because you may have to live together for a long time. Dramas tend to take it to the extreme because they are meant for entertainment, but it is a very real issue that if the parents don't approve, it may not happen or at the least, it may be difficult and leave you feeling incredibly guilty even if you really shouldn't. In English, you might say "blood is thicker than water"
This episode is so frustrating to me because wdym you wake up after all that and just... go on, work peacefully with Lu Feng? You're not angry? Like why am I fuming but you're just "here's some paperwork, see you tomorrow"? Yi Chen, please don't be a doormat anymore 🙏
is this still worth watching with the remake out now? it doesnt help that all the uploads i can find have terrible…
So, double helix is definitely higher quality and more fleshed out than these movies. I remember enjoying them at the time, but things make a lot more since in the drama. Overall, the story is basically the same so far, so watching the movies wouldn't really add anything to your perspective. I felt like Lu Feng seemed more of a villain in the movies, but there's some very key moments that haven't aired yet, so it's hard to say how I'll feel by the end. Cheng Yichen was more mature in the movies though which I kind of prefer to the overly childish vibe. I definitely wouldn't watch them until you've finished the drama at this point, but maybe if you have a hole in your heart then, use the movies to fill the gap :)
Update: I hate double helix Lu Feng now too. They have changed a few things from the OG this point though
It's kind of weird to me that they blame Hong Ye and the humans for the killing and war between the races. Because... weren't the demons slaughtering and enslaving the humans first? Like Ao Hen gets protected after killing Hong Ye's people, making him grovel, and almost killing him, but Hong Ye must die and repent for returning the favor and trying to protect his people? Logically, Ao Hen should have also received punishment in that case but ig we're supposed to just forget that. Seems a little biased but ok
It's crazy that nearly half the show and this girl has made no effort to get ml's attackers and help him regain his identity despite promising. Even proposing to him while withholding his identity ☠️
Netflix Japan announcement states 3都市を舞台に二人の青年が歩んだ 10年に渡る魂と愛の物語…
Haha I totally get that! The friendship tag does make me question it, too, and even Japanese audiences are not sure. But if it doesn't turn out to be a romance, I feel like they have really teased the audiences because why talk about 愛 (love) for a bromance? They definitely want us to think it's romance at least! Still, it's not a bad idea to watch knowing it might not be if that will disappoint you. Better safe than sorry! :)
I don't want to be the reminder of bad news, but the tags on Netflix are still: "Understated, Intimate, Drama,…
Netflix Japan announcement states 3都市を舞台に二人の青年が歩んだ 10年に渡る魂と愛の物語 (The journey of two young men across three cities. A tale of soul and love spanning ten years). The connotation in Japanese suggests romance to me, but it gives me the feeling of a slow-burn romance with healing as the main focus. My suspicion is that it is not categorized as BL because it does not follow BL themes and the romance will likely be artsy or "understated" as Netflix says? In other words, not a direct/bold romance like most BL. Though I haven't personally seen exact confirmation of romance aside from a 2024 netflix article in English which calls it a "love story" (link below).
whats the name of the background music? im obsessed
It's original music by 小田切大 (Odagiri Dai) for the drama. No release of the ost that I'm aware of, but you might like some of his other stuff like https://youtu.be/mB0dzDB1fhc?si=3OoX0BV74seRkihy
I think this was the first BL series with ghosts and angels, which added an extra dynamic to the plot. That said,…
Nongning was a "Mom fan." Basically, instead of obsessing over Narin in a romantic way like most fans, she obsesses over him like she's his mom considering him her "child" ☠️

Edit: I also watched new teaser which quotes 忘れられない恋の物語か (A love story that can't be forgotten?)
Meet You at the Blossom
Wicked Game
Secret Relationships
My Stand-In
These are all BLs with toxic relationships that remind me of this series, ABO Desire being the closest I can think of.
